Positive experience: Pool area could be cleaner, visible algae on floor and walls. The women's changing room is gross. Always dirty. The women's steam room is disgusting. Smells like mold and doesn't steam. The sauna stinks and hasn't been cleaned in months. Watched a lady write wash me on the window over a month ago and it's still there. Unisex changing rooms are typically pretty clean other than the giant puddles in the bathrooms. Gym equipment is clean. Some staff members are great others are just rude. I'm on the border, not sure if I should continue going here or save my money and find somewhere else. Price is steep too considering all the above stated.

Negative experience: I LOVE this gym, however it does no good if you have kids, because the child care center for the lower ages makes my husband and I feel VERY unwelcomed & there is not a lot for the kids to do. They could afford to take lessons from the ymca childcare in Kingsport.

Fantastic experience: Amazing staff with amazing hospitality. Each trainer and wellness coach is always available and happy to help. My wife is a travel nurse and i travel around the states with her working at different gyms This YMCA is the cleanest I've ever been to. All new equipment, a sauna, steam room and soon to be abs and glutes workout room.

Negative experience: We were staying at the Bristol Hotel and decided to take advantage of the swimming facilities at this YMCA location. The staff at the front desk were wonderful—extremely welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately, our experience was cut short due to a pest issue. After about 15-20 minutes at the pool, we noticed several roaches near the swimming area, particularly around the benches where we were sitting. This was disappointing and definitely something that needs attention.

Negative experience: Had a friend go there to swim then go to the sauna where he was approached by management and told to cover up due to his surgical scars “making people uncomfortable”. Over scars? That’s actually insane to me. Can’t imagine how people whose bodies don’t fit the societal standard are treated if scars make the staff uncomfortable. What a joke.
Negative experience: You'd think a place like the YMCA would embody acceptance and understanding, but sadly, that's not the case. They have a long way to go when it comes to treating all individuals with the dignity and respect they deserve. If you have any kind of scars or abnormality, prepare to be discriminated against and gossiped about BY THE MANAGER AND DIRECTOR, followed by a confrontation about how you're making people uncomfortable. God forbid people have bodies.
Negative experience: Although the National YMCA’s mission is “…building healthy, confident, connected and secure…adults…and communities,” this branch ensures that the “odd” people are left out. If you do not look a certain way, expect to be followed, interrogated, and possibly asked to leave. This is especially true if you have visible surgical scars which they will inquire you about and share your private information with their coworkers afterwards. This is a great place if you want that feeling of being judged by middle school mean girls but largely unhelpful if you want to get healthy with a community of mature supportive adults.
Negative experience: Be aware that the operations manager will discriminate against you if you are not a middle aged straight person. DO NOT support this business. She blatantly lied to try and cover herself. You should be ashamed of yourself. God forbid anyone have SURGICAL SCARS. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE.
Negative experience: As a customer, I always expect a certain level of service and communication from the establishments I frequently use. Unfortunately, my recent experience at YMCA left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. The incident in question occurred when I was accused of sneaking people into the establishment without proper authorization. I was shocked and dismayed to find out that I had been banned without any prior warning or conversation with the owner. In my opinion, the owner's decision to ban me without any form of communication, solid proof, or any credible evidence is a significant oversight. It is crucial for any establishment to maintain open lines of communication with its patrons, especially when it comes to serious matters such as banning someone. I understand that businesses have rules and guidelines that must be followed, but a simple conversation with me could have resolved the issue without the need for such a drastic measure. It is essential for the owner to hear my side of the story and understand the circumstances before making a decision that affects my ability to visit the establishment. Moreover, the lack of communication has left me feeling disrespected and undervalued as a customer. I believe that every customer deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and that includes being given the opportunity to explain their actions before being banned. In conclusion, my experience at YMCA was marred by the owner's decision to ban me without any form of communication. I hope that the establishment will reconsider its approach to dealing with such situations in the future and prioritize open communication with its patrons. Until then, I will be seeking alternative establishments that value their customers and treat them with the respect they deserve.
Positive experience: Would rate higher if 24/7 Clean facilities Good equipment and a decent amount of room Where I work pays for part of our membership but to get one straight out is a bit high in my opinion especially in comparison to planet fitness but different people like different places Go check it out for yourself and see if this gym is right for you!

Negative experience: Who brings McDonald’s into a kids gym area knowing there is little kids in there that are going to want the food and get upset?? And then tell me if my daughter has to leave if she doesn’t calm down in 15 mins?? First of all should you be eating on your job? No!! You’re there to watch kids and WORK. How ridiculous

Fantastic experience: Sadly I'm only here for 3 months. Oh man 545 everyday same people. Super nice. I have a scheduled cycle class with the guys now on tuesday. Wish had this back home. Best feature the saunas!

Fantastic experience: I travel quite often, and this is by far one of the overall best YMCA's I've frequented! The entire staff from top to bottom is amazingly friendly, and the most outgoing group of folks I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! It's Southern hospitality at it finest! The entire facility ( gym,pool,courts,sauna, etc...)are kept immaculately, surgically clean, and sanitized! There's plenty of parking in the well lit lot. I would highly recommend becoming a member at this location! It's the people that work here that make this place awesome!

Fantastic experience: Obtained a membership for the first time in about 5 years yesterday. Chris Whitt was an angel to work with. He was very compassionate and inspiring. During our tour, I was amazed at how much the Y has changed for the better. I also saw CEO Rick Matthews working around the facility and met him. It is unusual to see a CEO within their respective organization, much less working.

Negative experience: You really have to pay attention if your going to cancel because if you don't cancel the month before the lady you end up talking too gets snarky with you and is not understanding even if you have an emergency

Positive experience: We were guests of my brother and sister in law on two separate days and both times we didn't feel very welcome. The staff at the front desk and the guards were okay but not super friendly. And one of the swim instructors was downright rude. Can't imagine how they would treat us if we were actual members.

Fantastic experience: Best gym in the area!
Fantastic experience: I was a member of this gym since 1999. I loved it then and continued to love the upgrades. They have a wide variety of pretty much everything and they are a huge facility. Everything was always clean and if a machine wasn't in working order, all you had to do was just tell them and they would fix it. I had to cancel my membership because my husband and I moved. I have yet to find a facility that has everything the Bristol YMCA had. I did miss the towel service, but hey, just bring your own. I will say that they probably need to do some building upgrades in the future, especially on the ceilings. Other than that, it's a great gym and I really miss being a member there.

Negative experience: My experience at the Y was really good for almost six years and I had no major issues to speak of other than a few run in with a few employees at the Y but all were resolved. But unfortunately my youngest son had gotten in some trouble at the Y and I handled it as a father should and corrected my son when he was wrong and made him apologize to the employees of the YMCA. But I recall my oldest boy who never caused any problems for the YMCA had asked me to speak with Rick Mathew’s now current CEO at the Bristol YMCA and I never knew how costly that would have been to my membership at the YMCA a member in good standing there but I was shocked to the response of Rick Mathew’s who expressed his aggravation’s with my youngest boy, that time I didn’t realize there were any major issues or much going on but to my surprise I had been informed by Rick Mathew's that my son had been in some more trouble there at the Y and as a parent I told Mr. Mathews I was unaware of this and if I would have known it would have been dealt with but that didn’t make Mr. Mathews happy and the whole conversation turned south at that point and went down hill in a hurry much to my surprise, with a man I had bragged on and have gave such good recognition for doing an outstanding job at the Y with bringing in new equipment and overall maintenance of the YMCA. Had been so mad at me and I felt terrible and nothing that I could say would help it only made things worse and I felt so helpless as he suspended me and my family from the Bristol YMCA and I have made several attempts to reach out too the board and others for a sit down with Mr. Mathews but to no eval and that crushed me pretty badly because I couldn’t understand why this man I had so much respect for was on the attack towards me so I waited awhile thinking okay he told me to call back after September so I then just waited until today November the 16th and called and spoke with Mr. Mathews and he still gave me the same response and I feel so helpless to the situation and therefore this is why I have such negative views of the YMCA of Bristol and disappointment with Rick Mathews I just wanted to be heard a member in good standing at the YMCA who’s membership was ended abruptly and the question that I can only ask is why and for what but have never been granted a sit down with Mr. Mathews just to be heard that is so sad and has broke my heart to a place that I Loved and my family to be turned out and not understand why.

Fantastic experience: New remodel just adds to it. Great Y. Usually Y's are not as nice as private gyms, but this one is extensively appointed from the kids area and climbing wall, basketball, boxing, pool and spa, parents night out!!! & a really nice weight and cardio setup.

Positive experience: I’m new to the city of Bristol and decided to get a membership at the ymca, the first day I went to use the facility only one of the staff members was really nice and offered help! I went to the daycare to drop off my 3 year old and the staff there is very unprofessional I asked for information and one of them just looked at me and laughed, the second time I came here i felt more welcome by the staff but the babysitters at daycare there are very rude and unprofessional they don’t make the kids feel welcome. It’s a big deal to me because that’s the whole reason I chose ymca because I have kids and wanted a place where I can take them and I could workout!

Fantastic experience: My child was left in the kids gym today... Our first visit. He told me the guy that worked there and was watching them wouldnt let him play Xbox because he was ... Annoyed but whatever... What really got me was I wasnt asked for an identification when i picked my child up. Made me feel like anyone could just walk out the door with my kid. Really making me question leaving him in there anymore.. Its one of the reasons i signed up because no one else offers affordable childcare.. Literally just signed up yesterday and already having sketchy issues. I dont know if thats the process or if that kid just didnt ask me.. But it scared me to know that... Because all i did was call my kids name and he came running to me. As i said, just a little sketchy.. Especially considering the times we live in. Edited to add: I was contacted today by staff and they are looking into this for me. I was assured it is not their policy to ask for ID (because we have to scan to get in, in the first place which I can understand), but they do usually confirm a child's leaving with the correct person. I appreciate the call and will definitely give it another chance. Hoping it was an isolated incident. Impressed with the quick response and really appreciate it.

Negative experience: Staff is not very friendly and very rude. They should be more kind to the kids who pay money every month so they can get a pay check. On april 29th i had an experience with a staff wearing a maroon dress and she was very rude and it was very unacceptable. Never coming back again and alot of other people have agreed and made the same decision as i have.

Negative experience: Note it’s absolutely ridiculous that I was charged an extra 20 dollars for me and my brother to sit and WATCH my nephew swim for an hour. Yet another example of the innocent being punished for the poor choices of others. Thanks Y! If it wouldn’t have broken my nephews heart I would have left, guaranteed I won’t be back.
