Positive experience: I like the Jim, but as an older member, the heavy metal music and rap music is a bit disturbing during my workout. Jennifer had a really good playlist for a while, but they never seem to play it anymore. Wish they would bring that back.

Fantastic experience: This is a good gym. It's a little on the small side but has all the equipment you would want, as well as adding some new machines here and there. The staff and owners are also very friendly. Great gym culture as well as there are both dedicated and new lifters.

Fantastic experience: No frills, but gets the job done with 24 hour access.

Positive experience: I love this place. Great spot to work out. But I just got hit with an annual maintenance fee and when I asked about it, they showed me some old scratched up, copied version of what a contract is supposed to be on a laminated piece of paper. Not sure what that was all about? Seems like they need to update the system to look a little more professional.

Positive experience: Nice clean gym. Very welcoming. Love the steel dumbells.

Positive experience: It needs to be updated and improved. A lot of equipment isn't being used taking up space they could use for more popular equipment.

Fantastic experience: Newer gym with a clean feel and good crowd. Front desk was awesome. They let me get a free workout in because of a mix up - very nice staff.

Negative experience: We were members at Powerhouse up until several months ago. We jumped through the proverbial hoops to cancel - call this person, email that person, come in and sign this form, etc. We were assured the membership was cancelled appropriately. But every month since then we have been billed our full membership amount. Powerhouse never calls or emails back. When we go in, we’re told we have to email. We have had to try to work with our credit card company to contest the charges. Powerhouse uses illegal, predatory practices to steal money from you. There are SO many other facilities in the area (with childcare). Stay away from Powerhouse!

Positive experience: I like the gym but please renovate the bathrooms there just gross and I could dry my hands faster than the hand dryer by blowing on them. They are just kind of dirty

Fantastic experience: I like the fact that I have herd nothing but good reviews and asked opinions from others. It sounds like the type of gym I prefer. Call me old but I prefer that and the equipment available is perfect. So many gyms today have this very over the top facilities that cater to much for what needed. From all I've read about I see me joing this week.

Fantastic experience: Exceptional gym. It's a low-key, small-town, no-frills place that nevertheless has all the basics one needs for training in multiple capacities. Cardio and exercise machines of every sort, great variety. Fully equipped with free weights, dumbbells, Life Fitness and Hammer Strength machines. In addition, there are various classes, a child-care room for parents who need their kids watched while they train, tanning facilities, and clean locker rooms. Employees are friendly and welcoming. Members are considerate and cool. It's a non-intimidating, and even inspiring place to train and get fit.

Positive experience: This place has all the equipment most people would need, however, some of the equipment is quite outdated. For an example, the barbell plates have cracks and pieces chipped off, so a 45 plate would probably be around 40-43. Also the place is not the cleanest. Not sure if they clean the floors and the machines very often. Last complaint I have is the temperature is extremely high. Probably in the 80s, so it’s quite humid. Not sure, if the ac doesn’t work, or they haven’t adjusted the thermostat since the winter, but nevertheless it’s very hot and muggy. Other than that, the staff and the community is very friendly. And it is probably one of the top 3 best gyms in south lyon. I’d choose this one, if you need all the equipment they have. If you do not, then I’d check out one of the other ones in case they are cleaner and more up to date.

Negative experience: Great spot in SL, have all the equipment you need. I had to edit my review due to an unfortunate encounter with a member who mid-bench, felt the need to instruct me to "go wider" I'm sorry that this unfortunate encounter with a member has to negatively impact the establishment.

Fantastic experience: The best gym in my area

Negative experience: I drove 25 minutes out to get a day pass while in town and I went according to their staffed hours on their website which stated open till on 11pm on Monday-Friday but when I got there at 9 pm the sign says staffed is until 8pm. Completely disappointed.

Fantastic experience: This gym is truly the best gym!! They have all the equipment that is needed to build your perfect body. Not only that, but the manager is always there with a smile and a helpful hand!!

Fantastic experience: I started going to the Sat zumba classes about 5 months ago and loved them. At my daughter's insistence, i started working with a personal trainer, Jennifer, and words can not adequately convey how thankful I am for her professionalism, encouragement, expertise, likability, integrity, and altruism. The staff is very helpful and friendly as well. An added bonus is that my grandson works out here, and it's good to see him from time to time. ;-)

Fantastic experience: Love the gym... Been going less than a year and have seen nothing but positive changes. Great childcare hours, more classes and a bigger spin room! There is even great communication and encouragement on the Facebook page. All this at a GREAT price. What's not to love?

Negative experience: Dirty, bathrooms smell. Tanning beds never have more than half bulbs working. Management just lets high school kids do whatever and not re rack Weight. Kids working the counter never have an answer to a question. Place is a joke but, only gym around.

Negative experience: Greedy, Charges people with expired memberships. Even if you quit going to the gym 2 years ago - watch out, he'll charge you at least $60 everyyear. very sneaky. and Joe's got a bad attitude dealing with customers

Negative experience: They kept charging knowing the account was canceled, no refund no nothing. Just a manager with excuses on why the account was never closed (claiming I called the wrong location, did not cancel properly, etc). Would not recommend as it took me 4 different phone calls, 2 emails and a Facebook conversation in attempt to contact someone in management.

Positive experience: Good gym, plenty of equipment both free and machine weights.

Fantastic experience: Great place to work out with the latest equipment and personable staff that are always available to help answer questions and assist with personal training. Child care staff are friendly and attentive to children's needs. Joe is always available to greet you with a smile and child care staffer Angie puts your mind at ease with her caring nature and pleasant personality. I recommend this gym to all my friends and family.

Negative experience: I have been trying to cancel my month to month membership for over 2 months now and they are still charging my credit card! Ridiculous!

Negative experience: Childcare is horrific! Not only did the red headed gal let my 3 year old walk right out (I found him strolling the gym) but she also left my heaving, hysterically crying baby (first timer) to cry on the floor because she was busy holding another baby (presumably her own) for 45 mins-and this other baby wasn’t even crying yet the entire time I was there she didn’t put this other baby down! Because her hands were full with this baby she wouldn’t put down, she was helping along other crawling babies with her feet!!! Not to mention there was one person with 10+ kids which is illegal. When I told Joe the “owner” his response, “we’ll work on that for you” then he went back to playing on his phone. He didn’t even have the decency to walk over to childcare to see what was going on. Bad customer service and even worse child care service!!

Fantastic experience: This is my gym, & I'm very pleased with my recent membership purchase. The best thing has to be the free daycare that I am provided with while I work out! Angie is the best, she is so great with my kids when she is taking care of them! They beg me to go back to play at the gym, and I get my exercise in for the day - it's a win-win!

Negative experience: This gym is turning into the next Planet Fitness. Powerhouse Is For Real bodybuilders that move weight and grunt here and there no big deal. But getting banned for doing so is ridiculous. They should be ashamed for having Powerhouse across the front of the building.

Negative experience: Today I am unhappy. Showed up for yoga class this morning, and both classes were cancelled. My issue is that I just re-signed my contract and already this week 3 scheduled classes have been cancelled, and that along with losing my favorite (of all time) yoga instructor Mahmoud, which means that as of last week with Mahmoud leaving that leaves me two additional classes that I can not attend. So this week there were 5 less yoga classes to attend. Please, Please figure out a plan B, get another instructor or give Mahmoud what he wishes. I need yoga and I do not appreciate driving to a gym and seeing a sign on the door that two classes this morning were cancelled. Beth Sommer
