- Accessibility: Many users appreciate the significant accessibility features throughout the center, making it welcoming for everyone.
- Extensive Fitness Options: The gym is highlighted for having excellent powerlifting setups, a great variety of free weights, cardio machines, and group classes. With a large weight room, it accommodates all fitness levels.

However, feedback also points out a few areas for improvement:

- Availability Issues: Several patrons have expressed concerns about busy hours leading to limited access to equipment, especially in the weight room.
- Operational Hours: Some guests have wished for extended hours, particularly during the summer months for more flexible workout times.
Overall, the Breckenridge Recreation Center stands out as a top-notch community hub for fitness and recreation, making it a must-visit for both locals and visitors!
Breckenridge Recreation Center: Opinions

Fantastic experience: Tons of great amenities and we really appreciated how disability accessible everything was. Lots of fun to visit!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best powerlifting set-up in Summit County. It's light, bright and spacious with almost everything you need for SBD and accessory lifting. The only drawbacks are they lack calibrated Kg plates, the bars generally have poor knurling and all the benches are multipurpose rather that lift specific so there is a hinge. Compared to Silverthorne Rec Center, this place is Miles away superior and better priced!!
Fantastic experience: Awesome selection and room… hours could be longer in summer but has everything possible!!
Fantastic experience: Me and my son had a great time here. Really fun rocks to skip around on
Fantastic experience: Great rec center! We only were there for the pool, steam room and showers, which were all clean. We had the pool area to ourselves on a Thursday evening. Had kid play area, basketball hoop and rock wall in the water were fun! The outdoor hot tub was pretty crowded so we went to the indoor hot tub which I thought could be a little hotter. Next time I would like to check out the weight room. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly.
Negative experience: Everything is fine in the gym areas, always clean. The worst part is the bathrooms; they smell of damp, the floor is horribly uneven, and you feel like you're bumping into things. The showers are old, and the worst part is the wooden doors, along with smelly and stained plastic curtains. They need to remodel the entire area. The family bathrooms, the men's and women's bathrooms, and the sauna all need to be modernized. and finally the jacuzzi that is outside needs more attention, it is dirty and feels sticky and slimy.
Positive experience: Overall it’s a great gym good variety the but BIG downside to it though is that it closes really early for a gym like 8pm on the week days some people have work and want to go after and they open at 5 AM like what kinda schedule is that no one’s going at 5 AM
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about this place. It is always super clean, there’s always equipment available and the programming is spectacular. They are super responsive and friendly. I love the rec center!
Negative experience: The remodel is disappointing. The old pool was amazing: with a super cool slide and a whirlpool and a single space that was large and versatile. It was perfect for kids of all ages . The new design is SO noisy. The kids pool is broken into such small areas that it’s difficult to play anywhere except where the water is 10 inches deep. Really inefficient use of space. Very limiting design not well suited for anyone but a toddler.
Negative experience: we got kicked out for being under age swimming at the pool when it has never been a rule and the poster says 6 to 10 without a guardian
Positive experience: Better than Silverthorne. Aquatics are fully open. Maintenance and cleaning are just okay.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym. Tons of options and great freeweight sections
Fantastic experience: Best Gym I have ever joined! If you know fitness there is no reason why you can’t workout there! This place truly has it all!
Negative experience: Was led to believe the pool was Open! After getting all the way to the pool with two young kids were told we had to be waitlisted! Horrible! I am not even allowed to watch my own kids. Lifeguard shortage! The wait-list should be presented before we pay not after we get to the water!
Fantastic experience: Great place for a workout and lots of spots to lift weights!!! Perfect for out of town visiting and something to do with kiddos. Wonderful facility
Negative experience: A racist person to not let us in and someone else was about to let us in but he said no I really wanted to swim
Negative experience: Basketball court always being used for everything but basketball and court is never cleaned or re waxed
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility for a small mountain town Great pool great weight room and super nice people
Fantastic experience: Great spot for the kiddos on a day you can’t get outside. Bouncy house on the weekends and a dedicated kids play area. Weights, pool, gym, courts for adults and teens.
Fantastic experience: I love this place… It is a cornerstone of the community and has all of the machines classes and atmosphere that I could ask for in this beautiful town.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love the gym here. Tons of space and lots of equipment. Love the energy of everyone there also
Positive experience: After having the opportunity to speak with one of the managers that runs the rec center I wanted to update my review of the recreation center. The Breckenridge recreation center offers a wide verity of recreational activities. They have a large campus that offers indoor and out door sports, they have a variety of work out equipment to choose from including cardio equipment, machine weight training, and free weight training. There is a rock wall that looks to have various levels of difficulty for you to train your rock climbing. In addition to the work out equipment the recreation center is equipped with a lap pool, hot tubs, sauna, steam room, basketball courts, tennis courts, racquetball court, and an indoor track. Just like other rec centers they offer fitness classes that are held in private rooms. The recreation center hosts a verity of children's camps during the summer that involve indoor and out door sports, activities, and education. These camps seem to serve children of all ages and are a great way to get your child involved in sports. All of the out door facilities are open to the public while the indoor facilities require a membership. For the price of the membership you will not find a better value in Breckenridge. The staff at the recreation center are very friendly and do a good job keeping the facilities clean and addressing any issues you may have. The equipment in the facility is in good condition and seem to be replaced frequently. Now onto my personal experience at the recreation center. My primary use for the rec center is to do weight training. Unfortunately the weight training area of the rec center is smaller than desired, considering the volume of people that use it. As stated earlier the equipment is in good condition and there is a verity of options to choose from, but because of the size limitations of the rooms and the accessibility requirements of the ADA the rec center can only fit so much equipment and so that means there are not many duplicates of popular equipment. Because of this it is often hard to find open equipment during peak hours and sometimes off peak hours. I have personally had to cancel or reschedule my work outs because of this. In my conversations with the rec center management they seemed very interested in hearing what I had to say but unfortunately the best solution I got was to try to pick an off peak time to schedule my work out. My hope is one day the rec center can do a facilities expansion project and build a bigger weight room, but until that day comes patrons should be aware that if they are wanting to work out during peak hours or peak season they may have to wait to use the equipment. Now you may be wondering why 3 stars then? Well here is an explanation of how I do my ratings. 1 Star = Terrible avoid at all costs. 2 Stars = Ok there's lots of room for improvement. 3 Stars = Good 4 Stars = better 5 Stars = best ive experienced. Over all the rec center is a good gym and because I don't use the vast majority of the facility I can only rate them on what I do use, the weight room. I have had the pleasure of being a member at some incredible gyms in the past that focuses on having as much equipment as possible and unfortunately our rec center cannot compete with them. If you go to the rec center you will be able to get a complete work out in and if you enjoy more of their facilities you will no doubt have a great time there.
Negative experience: I honestly love the facility!! It was my first day however I was on my phone in the locker room, and this maintenance lady came in and yelled at me phones were allowed I was honestly shocked, I didn’t quite understand giving it’s my FIRST day. I said okay and finished my text she then proceeded to harass me. I completely understand the no phone rule!! As someone who didn’t know I feel like she could’ve approached me in a better way as someone who didn’t know the rules.
I'm glad our managers were able to contact you offline. Visitors should be aware that we have a strict and well-posted "no phone zone" in our locker rooms to protect the privacy of our users, particularly children who may be in the area. We appreciate your understanding.
Negative experience: Not very helpful to people traveling in the area
Fantastic experience: Great spot all around. Multiple amenities indoor and outdoor. Free weights machines and cardio are stacked. Haters will hate, but this is a great rec center
Fantastic experience: Just used the pool with our 4 kids all 8 and under. They had a blast and it is going to be a highlight of our vacation (kids just love pools and water slides).
Positive experience: Not the same as it was. Long time employees are still great. New employees have brought their post covid "not my problem" attitude. After 8 months the completely rebuilt pool still leaks and has been shut down multiple times. If you have elementary school aged kids don't bother. The new leisure pool is nothing like the old one which was so great for the 5-12yo group. It's now suited for 3yo and under. Less than a foot deep. Pretty useless. What were they thinking?
Negative experience: Dated facility and rather overpriced compared to other Colorado rec centers. They charge you $20 even if you are coming in super late just for a quick workout. Pool closes super early. Bathrooms and locker rooms absolutely filthy. Giving it two stars simply because it actually has a climbing wall - which I did like, but there were no clearly marked routes and the few that were marked were graded completely wrong. If you don’t care for the climbing wall - go to Silverthorne, that facility is WAY nicer and cheaper.
Positive experience: Good, clean family rec center. Lotsa weight gear in the gym, performance weight set ups, aerobic stuff, stretch area, indoor running track, pool. Hint: get outta there before 4pm.
Fantastic experience: Whenever we come to Breck in the summer we love heading to the rec center for the pools! Great facility with fun waterslide
Sadly, the Summit Plummit is no more (decommissioned in August). Our aquatics renovation is nearly complete and we expect to reopen in the coming weeks!
Positive experience: The "Breckreation Center" if you will...
Love it!!
Negative experience: That kid, with the short blondish hair, that was there this morning at open, reading a book, is the rudest person I have met in this county. Usually people at this rec center are pretty polite, not this prick
Fantastic experience: Thank you for having Pumpkin Palooza event. It was fantastic and Jane was so nice and friendly to the kiddos! Thanks
Thank you for the kind words - we'll pass them along to Jane. A lot goes on behind the scenes to make these events happen -- it's great to hear your family had fun!
Negative experience: Wish our tax dollars didn’t go towards building an unnecessary water park at the gym, that leads to the sauna and steamroom being closed indefinitely.
Thank you for your comments. The pool renovation is a necessity as the water slide was at the end of its usuable life and required replacement. This also provided an opportunity to fulfill customer requests for more interactive water play elements and to increase space for swim lessons. We anticipate the steam room and to reopen in November, along with the outdoor hot tub. Any renovation has its challenges, and we appreciate the community's patience as we work to improve the facility.
Fantastic experience: Our passengers loved it.
Positive experience: When fully open, the place is a solid 6/10. With the renovations (that were only supposed to affect the pool), it's like working out in a third world country. Half the lights are out, no timeline on coming back up. Yes, my pass is valid at silverthorne, a 35 minute drive with construction. For the price of the pass, we deserve better. UPDATE : Lights are back on, steam and sauna still closed for no apparent reason (they have full power and lights....).
We wanted to provide an update on the steam room and sauna closures. We now anticipate those to reopen in November, along with the outdoor hot tub. Thank you for your comments.
Fantastic experience: Excelente ubicación para visitar
Positive experience: This used to be a free addition to our condo when we stay here. They removed that benefit so now it was too expensive to come very often. The pool was pretty crowded when we came but it was a decent sized pool.
Thanks for leaving a comment. If you come to Breckenridge more than once a year, definitely consider purchasing a pass as they are good for a year. Also, our 6- and 15- punch passes are transferable between guests which will save on admission if you're coming with others. Finally, we're preparing for a remodel of our leisure pool beginning in August so we hope you come check it out next summer!
Fantastic experience: Great amenity in Breckenridge
Negative experience: Terrible parking. And charge you tickets when there equipment is broken and doesn’t work. Doesn’t seem legal.
Hi, Joe -- I apologize you had a bad experience. We would like to address any equipment issues if you would please contact us at 970-453-1734 or email us at [email protected]. Thank you for taking the time to provide a comment.
Positive experience: Went with my two kids for the pool. We were meeting family there. Family of 10. We got there 30mns before they got to the front desk. well we waited at the pool for an hour before they let them in. Only allows 20 people however 5 adults at the lap pool me and my TWO kids. Waiting for family to be allowed in to play. Also those 5 adults that were there were obviously not on the wait-list and was chatting away with life guards.
Fantastic experience: Good spot to get a quick workout in. Had all equipment needed, and then some. $20 for a day pass seems a little steep, but I guess they have to make their money somehow.
We're pleased you enjoyed your visit and thank you for your comments. If you plan multiple trips or have people with you, please consider our transferable 6-punch pass to save a few dollars ($16.70 per visit). Passes are valid for a year.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful modern fitness center for everyone: climbing wall, running track, weight rooms, studios, swimming pool, group classes, ..... if you are visiting, they have different kind of passes.
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym, rock wall, racquetball, basketball courts, training classes, and swimming pool. Just be wary the gym is packed 4pm-6:30pm
Fantastic experience: Visiting Breck and this gym is absolutely insane and great value for money
Fantastic experience: Finally tried Lori's "mat pilates" class today--- what a workout! I shared with her that I am used to skiing (skate, classic, downhill, and uphill) lift weights regularly and am a verrrry active person in general but her class burned me out! She did a wonderful job of stating level 1, 2, 3 and so on so each person in the class could choose to push themselves to their ability that day. Thanks, Lori! I'll be back!
Fantastic experience: Love working out at the Rec Center. Very well equipped and low key.
Fantastic experience: Perfect place to send the kids while I'm baking. Mom and dad can go work out in the gym while the kids play in the pool. Pool has a big slide there's a hot tub, million things to do this place had it all. Taking my daughter rock climbing tomorrow. They have a ton of weekly activities if your kids are bored outside of Breckenridge and skiing LOL
Positive experience: Taxpayer funded, multi million dollar public facility, many athletes here, good powerlifting equipment except they removed the decline bench because the folks who run the gym aren't really into lifting so they didn't realize how valuable it was (to me and other rats) for presses and abs. Has a cheap, toy decline for sit ups on another floor don't know what that's about. Nice pool for laps when it's clean, most people don't shower before using so the pools and spas are bath tubs for tourists, campers and wookies so that's gross, showering rule everywhere in the world for some reason is not enforced here so it can get pretty gamey even virusey as it is a public place. Facility could be cleaner, wouldn't pass a pro sports or college level grade. It has the Breckenridge yoga mellow vibe. Has the bones needs some real professional athletic management to be the real deal, it's a rec center not Golds Ventura Beach.
Hi James, thanks for reaching out. We decided to upgrade our bench press benches to a multi-use rack system that allows for all compound movements at one station. The benches that are stationed with each rack can adjust to incline, flat and decline. In researching new equipment and working with our industry reps, this was the recommend direction that the industry is going. In addition, there is a decline abdominal bench upstairs by the elevator to use for sit-ups. Please reach out to [email protected] for more information or if you have additional questions. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Great facility, you have to listen to advertisements from their music account that plays on their speakers though. Bring head phones unless you want to listen to relentless ads while you work out.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful recreation center with amazing staff! They're constantly updating and refreshing their equipment and layouts to ensure they have the latest and greatest offerings available. From cardio to circuit training to Olympic lifting they have something for all levels and abilities. The facility is always extremely clean and well organized. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The best recreation center experience you can have! I always look forward to working out here when I'm visiting Breckenridge!
Fantastic experience: Great facilities both for day to day use and multi-purpose use while on vacation.
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout.
Fantastic experience: If I could give it 6 stars I would. Great Functional Training room! Top notch weight room. Nice water slide and shallow pool for kids. Great, clean facilities for all your workout needs. Friendly staff. Welcoming to visitors with reasonable fees
Fantastic experience: Nice experience......my son played hoops and worked out.
Negative experience: Lock up your belongings here! I had my pants swiped from the men's locker after paying $8 to shower here on Saturday, June 18th around 4 PM. #210, near the door. Luckily I had knotted my shoelaces to the locker door, so the backpack containing my fresh clothes, wallet, keys etc. could not be easily taken.
Negative experience: Life guards were total jerks to my kids. If it wasn’t the only place to go we would have left.
Fantastic experience: Really cool spot. Kids loved the arcade.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I love this recreation center! This is a must for either recovering from or training for your next day on the slopes. The outdoor hot tub is wonderful and the steam room is equally great. Shoutout to Grandpa Ev for both working here and taking us here while we visit!
Fantastic experience: Nice place for a soak and got shower of you need it. Nice facilities for all types of activities. Friendly staff. Will return in the future to take advantage of the weight room and basketball gym. Very popular place for people of all ages.
Negative experience: $8 dollars to take a shower? Seriously? Should be ashamed of yourselves. What planet does the staff in charge of making these prices live on to justify such a price for just a one time shower use?
Positive experience: I was recently visiting Breckenridge with my young kids and we decided to visit she rec center for the activities they have for children. We went to the pool and the lifeguard was very rude and she kept screaming at my 3 year old literally watching his every move to see if he would even take a fast step that she considered as running. When I explained to her that he is only 3 and that we have been there at most 5 minutes top and that he is very excited she then blamed it on me and shoved the no running stand in my face. I felt very uncomfortable and was very happy to leave there. I think they should do better research how on their employees and background on their experience working around children and can handle them. On top of that all the big slide was not in service.
Thank you for your comment. We at the Breckenridge Recreation Center take your comments and concerns seriously and are saddened that your experience was less than ideal. Your safety is our number one concern and we train for every possibility to make sure our lifeguards are enforcing rules in an appropriate, safe manner. If you have any other concerns please feel free to reach out to our aquatics coordinator directly at 970-547-4338. Also please note the slide opens at noon daily.
Negative experience: Short runs. Overpriced food. Lots of signs saying you cant do things. Wouldn't go again
Hi, John - just to clarify, this doesn't appear applicable to the recreation center? Please let us know if you had an issue at our facility that you would like addressed.
Fantastic experience: I'm primarily there for PT with Avalanche PT, however I was given the opportunity to see some of the rec facility and it's fantastic. I took a picture of the rates and they're actually pretty good; I'm going to get a family pass for myself and my two children.
Fantastic experience: Exelente servicio la resepcionista excelente
Fantastic experience: Great place. Alot to do and a great weight room
Fantastic experience: Beautiful rec center, especially the sports field.
Fantastic experience: Great showers! Family of 5 on a camper van $24 for all of us to use showers only.
Fantastic experience: Great facility, a perfect reset for our kids ages 5-15 between outdoor adventures on vacation. The rock climbing wall and pool area were a hit! We went on a weekday evening and were about the only ones there.
Fantastic experience: Very nice and clean. Fun time playing basketball and racquetball with family.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing building with great equipment and spaces!
Fantastic experience: Outdoor group fitness classes, BodyPump and yoga are being offered outside. You must register online as the number of participants is limited. Physical distancing and masks are required.
Fantastic experience: For a break from snow activities we went to the rec center with our kids ages 7-14. We had a fun time relaxing in the pool area and going down the slide. The pool also has balls and pool noodles to use. The water temperature was warm making getting in very relaxing. We spent time in the indoor and outdoor hot tubs and that was relaxing too. It was a fun time.
Fantastic experience: I was surprised at how nice this rec center was. It's the nicest I've ever been to. We were staying in town for a week, and just wanted to get some weight lifting in while on vacation. The strength training area is huge, with brand new equipment. I just paid a single day fee, and was able to get a workout in, then swim in the pool later. The swim area is also nice, and indoors which is a plus. They have a lap area, and an area with a big slide for kids. They also had a separate workout and stretching area upstairs with treadmills, and a racquetball court downstairs. Very nice. Will be sure to go back when in town
Fantastic experience: Great place! When I lived in Breckenridge for a season I got a 6 month membership here. They also have showers for the public for $6 if you need to freshen up while visiting.
Fantastic experience: Next to Louisville Colorado recreation and fitness center, this is the best in the country as far as I am concerned. Actually, it would be my first choice. Great indoor climbing wall, outstanding facility! However, Louisville CO won the best in the country a town it's size one year in be not too distant past... Good Training! Hart It's all training any ways isn't it?
Fantastic experience: Great rec center with an indoor playground for kids and nice heated pools with a big water slide. My 4 year old had a blast
Fantastic experience: A place to take a shower after skiing and before you head to the airport. They have figured this out. They have a special shower rate day pass. It’s like $12. Brilliant idea—saved me a night hotel and was able to grab lunch and my flight nice and clean. Staff was really friendly.
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym. They don’t have all the fancy machines for weight lifting, but what they do have is the right stuff (5 squat racks, 2 powerlifting platforms, benches, hex bars). Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Lots of machines n the man front desk with long hair is so hot lol he is perfect, makes me want to stay healthy.
Fantastic experience: Really fantastic Rec center. I drive over from Fairplay 5 times a week because we don’t have a decent gym in Park County.
Fantastic experience: Pristine turf fields. Great facility.
Fantastic experience: Great lesson with Ben, it was really fun, he helped me to improve my backhand. I will com back for sure! Recommended 100%
Fantastic experience: Great Staff, Great Facility
Fantastic experience: I was a CIT at the mountain camp over the summer and it was a life changing experience. I would very highly recommend it to any teen who loved working with children! I found that I love working with special needs children. Yes, the activities were fun but what really stood out was the relationships I created with the counselors, other CITs, but what stood out the most was my relationships with the kids. I meet lots of amazing kids but one really stood out. Working as a CIT most days I was helping children with special needs (mostly autism) that needed extra help to have the best summer! Some days I was like a counselor just leading the group but mostly I worked with one little boy we will call G. G didn’t talk much and he didn’t talk to me at all at first. He constantly wanted to run away from me at first but by the end of the summer he loved me and would give me a hug every day. It was incredible to help him be happy and have a great summer! I highly recommend joining the CIT program or enrolling your child in this camp!
Fantastic experience: Great price for locals
Fantastic experience: Pleasant as always, Sahn Taekwondo is a great program
Positive experience: Great facility in the heart of Breck. Plenty for working out any season, amazing skate park and a really killer indoor pool. Most staff are nice although the instructor at the 10 foot wide climbing area though the was Alex Honnold and copped a bit of attitude. The old folks here obviously haven't discover the cannabis yet because no one even said hi or smiled - they need to cheer up they live in Breck!
Fantastic experience: A very complete facility at a very reasonable price. Activities for all ages. Rarely crowded.
Positive experience: The facility is great except for the basketball courts, which have long been overdue for a rewaxing
Fantastic experience: The "rec center" in Breckenridge is unbelievable, there's no place like it anywhere. If there is a heaven, its at the Breck Rec Center. I never want to leave the place. I can't get enough of it. Its like a sanctuary for the mind as well as the body.
Positive experience: Fun for the children but the description online makes it sound way better than it actually is
Positive experience: Too many people in a small area...
Fantastic experience: Just signed up. Great gym with circular weights! Much better for dead lifting. I go in the evening and it's not too crowded. My one gripe is that the equipment isn't nailed down to the floor so I have to constantly move the bench or squat rack because they shift.
Fantastic experience: Very nice facility.
Fantastic experience: Great people and a very good facility for such a small area!
Fantastic experience: Great deal with an annual membership.
Negative experience: Website and person on phone said open 7am saturday. Drive there. Lap pool opens at 9am.
I apologize that you did not receive a clarification on the hours of the aquatics area and so appreciate your important feedback.
Monday-Friday the pool area opens at 6:00am with the rest of the building, and on weekends it opens at 9:00am. Please also note that aquatics closes a half-hour before the Recreation Center every day to allow guests time to change. Daily and seasonal hours are detailed on the Recreation Center Hours page on the website.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym, I love the fitness classes!
