Our comment from FitFit United States about Brainerd Family YMCA:
The Brainerd Family YMCA is a vibrant community hub that offers a wide range of facilities and programs suitable for all ages. Visitors have praised the gym for its cleanliness and the friendly, helpful staff that contribute to a positive atmosphere. The center features:
- An exceptional aquasize program that is enjoyed by many members.
- Diverse fitness classes with skilled instructors, making it a great place for group activities.
- A family-friendly environment where children can enjoy the Kids Corner while parents work out.
- Multiple exercise options, including a full weight room that exceeds expectations for a YMCA.
- Upcoming renovations are planned to update the facilities, which many members look forward to.
However, some users have noted areas for improvement, such as:
- The need for more open pool hours, as it is often closed or has limited availability.
- The weight room could benefit from better equipment attachments.
- Some feedback on the front desk staff indicates a lack of responsiveness regarding administrative issues.
Overall, Brainerd Family YMCA is highly recommended for families looking to stay active and enjoy a variety of health and wellness programs in a welcoming environment.

Brainerd Family YMCA: Opinions
Positive experience: Love this place im a 14 year old Hooper and lifter i love the b ball court but the wegeit room kinda sucks
Fantastic experience: Love the aquasize program.
Fantastic experience: Great experience
Positive experience: Gym could use better attachments like a strap loop
Fantastic experience: idk what this is
Negative experience: I only like the pool with all my friends but I do not like the camp they run for personal reasons and it's expensive and they didn't even know what to do for a t1d (type 1 diabetic
Positive experience: How do you up the day pass fee and the court is still that bad. At least put the money To make the place better
Fantastic experience: The YMCA is in need of updates but it is clean and has exceptional fitness classes and instructors. If you enjoy fitness classes they have a variety with skilled , upbeat instructors. I have been told a major renovation will be forthcoming. Front desk staff are welcoming and kind.
Negative experience: No hot tub and only 1 lane for laps . Great ay pool and area for kids
Positive experience: The building is in need of an update. They do have plans for a new building and are raising the funds with hopes to break ground in 2026! Otherwise, the staff is AMAZING and friendly and is always looking for ways to help their members and the community!
Fantastic experience: Great: would prefer more aquatic pool open time
Fantastic experience: Weight room exceeded our expectations for a YMCA when we came by for a workout while in town for a wedding. No bumper plates or Olympic platforms, but among other items in a big room, there was a squat cage, a squat bar, and a trap bar, which made for a good lifting session. Also, the front desk employee Molly was super sweet and helpful! Thanks Molly!
Fantastic experience: The Brainerd YMCA has been a absolutely wonderful experience for our family. There's so much to do for every age group. The best part about it is when we got our family monthly membership our two younger kiddos they get to go to Kids Corner for 2 hours while we get to work out with our older kids. We highly recommend this place especially if you want a place to be during the winter.
Positive experience: Great gym and people
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great programing
Fantastic experience: This place is a must stop for all family members!
Fantastic experience: Best group classes!!
Negative experience: Decent place honestly isn’t bad. But unless you’re retired or a stay at home parent I can’t see anyone having time to use the facilities here. The pool is rarely open and when it is half of it is usually closed. And as far as the rest of it goes I don’t see why you would pay the extra money to use what is ultimately available at any other gym. But it is clean and well maintained. So if your schedule is very open go for it.
Fantastic experience: Good value, clean and friendly
Negative experience: Unfriendly, snooty front desk manager(s) that absolutely REFUSE to allow you to talk to the Administrator, even after repeatedly requesting to speak with the Administrator. (tho whether it is the choice of the Administer to refuse calls, or it's choice made by the cold unfriendly control-freak front desk manager is unknown) Front desk manager(s) refuse to adhere to YMCA Reciprocity program for UNLIMITED Y visits outside your own Y which has always been a part of the Y program. The pool is antiquated (as is the entire building) and is shut down for days and weeks at a time, with no monetary compensation. The Sauna was down for MONTHS this past winter/fall. Get there to swim before work at 6 a.m., and when no lifeguard shows up, theres a wasted 25 mile trip for nothing. Over crowding precious little aquasize space for lessons, lessons, lessons. Many, many hours when the pool is never even open, and yet, a couple needs to pay $72 per month just to use the pool (nothing else)even when 'open swim' is whittled down to a few hours in the morning (not all days) and an hour or two here and there at night. Not even open 7 days a week either, half or the year, yet you still pay in full as they cut the hours. In other Y's, you are considered a Senior when you are 62. Not this Y. You need to be 65. You get so very little for what you are expected to pay for just using an old pool with a poor broken-down bathroom/changing area/sauna with broken missing tiles, and leaky showers that look like they're from the '70s that never really look clean. All this, and an Administer that cannot be bothered by his members that quite frankly, pay his salary.
This review has been reported as off topic.
We've reviewed both our membership records and YMCA Nationwide database and cannot find anyone with this name.
It sounds like this reviewer had an experience somewhere that did not meet their expectation; however, at this YMCA, we are obligated to both contractually and morally follow the rules pertaining to Nationwide membership which were inaccurately described in this review. You will find that Y's in different communities build and follow different membership and program fee models for a variety of different reasons as the cost of living, supplies, etc. vary by region. Also, our YMCA has a very comprehensive and robust financial assistance program, so anyone who truly cannot afford membership or program fees are eligible to participate.

Fantastic experience: I love the YMCA. It's perfect for families. Everyone is really nice and accepting. I love the group fitness. Since going to the YMCA my mental and physical health has greatly improved
Positive experience: Love the sauna here. The weight room is a nice addition. Love that my teenagers can work out with me or alone if they want to now that they are older. Love the strength training class. Like that they help single parents and low income families out.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out at
Fantastic experience: Can't wait to go swimming.
Fantastic experience: So much to do to stay active here!! I love all the classes offered each week. If you don't have an individual or family pass Herr, you are missing out!! The building is super clean as well!!
Negative experience: The pool is barely open. We joined for the pool and gymnasium, since there is no community center. Makes no sense to keep our membership if we can’t use the facilities when we want/are able to.
Fantastic experience: Family fun!
Fantastic experience: Great place, wonderful people.
Positive experience: Good place but the pool is barely open
Fantastic experience: Wonderful variety of things to do for the whole family. Friendly staff and great membership rates, too!
Fantastic experience: My kids take swimming lessons here and we've had a wonderful experience. Great instructors.
Fantastic experience: Pickle Ball. Friendship. I'm looking for Racket Ball players. Message me.
Fantastic experience: The ladies at the front desk were very nice and helpful. Lynn checked us both in. I had to fill out paperwork being it was my first time there. Was able to use everything available for all subscribers to the YMCA. Nice, clean, will be back.
Fantastic experience: Looked into prices for swimming and memberships. They have a swimming team for kids and it gives them access to the facility. Had a beautiful pool. The building was clean. The lady was very easy to understand and made it very easy for me to find out how to sign the kids up for different programs. Would highly recommend to someone who is looking for a nice gym or nice pool to use. They also have a water slide

Fantastic experience: Has everything you need to get back in shape. Daycare for children is provided as well.
Fantastic experience: Full weight room with everything you need to get a full workout in
Fantastic experience: Love it!
Fantastic experience: Excellent!!!
Positive experience: Not open on Sundays when most people have the day off and need a gym. Not very accommodating.
Fantastic experience: YMCA is a nice place every where
Fantastic experience: Loving the group classes
Fantastic experience: I love the Y so much! The coaches on the swim team are the best!
Negative experience: Where the beef? No Whirlpool here? No Steam Room? They do got a small sana here though you sit any closer and you will be in the guy's lap next to you! BRAINERD YMCA could do better if they did not skip out on alot of stuff. Don't let the small water slide fool you.
Fantastic experience: Affordable membership, friendly staff, great classes and awesome equipment. Longer hours would be awesome and longer pool hours but everything else is great! Our family gets to spend time together working out. Great family time and healthy!
Negative experience: Tired of calling and being told the gym is available at this time then to come in in person and be told something completely different.
Positive experience: YMCA has everything you might require.
Fantastic experience: Our plumbing was being worked on for a week. We needed to shower (family of 7) and the YMCA only charged us a miniscule fee of $2 for my entire family to shower. How amazing is that?!? Very kind staff. Thank you!
Negative experience: ❌BAD STAFF, THEY ONLY TARGET OLDER CHILDREN. AND THEY YELL AT THE KIDS ❌
Fantastic experience: This Review goes out to the Lifegaurds that work for the YMCA! They are so friendly!! My daughter is 7 and when she goes swimming they play with her and tell her jokes and are just the best!
