Bowling Green Athletic Club South: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Been going for over 10 years. Its clean and usually not crowded which makes for a much better vibe for me while lifting. Staff is always great and rico does a great job managing the location
Positive experience: I only come here bc it’s so close to my home. It’s a good facility but the hours are a joke. No weekends? That’s ridiculous. That’s 28% of the time. How about 28% off my membership then? They close 2 hours earlier than the Scottsville location also. I do love the basketball court. I do find it funny they use a different rim and net on every single goal. It’s just odd. They haven’t changed any nets out since it’s opened. What’s worse is the Scottsville location rim is barely even hanging on. I saw a zip tie on it last time I was there. I mean how hard is it for a gym making that much money to change out the rim to make it more fun to shoot and play on? It’s loud and makes shooting on nearly impossible at certain angles. Says a lot about the owners
Positive experience: I went here for the first time last Friday to play basketball with some friends. The basketball court was really nice. They have plenty of balls to chose from and a few of them were pretty good.
Fantastic experience: One of the best Gyms in town! I love the women's section and the variety of classes offered to fit the needs of any person no matter what stage you're at with your fitness journey. The staff is also super friendly and always willing to help out and answer any questions you may have. Plus, plus, plus
Fantastic experience: So far so good. Cory at the front desk was polite and helpful. They do the extra mile to help you out. The gym itself is comparable to bigger gym chains like Gold's (or Muv Fitness in SC). No judgement towards the fit people (unlike Planet Fitness - the Walmart of gyms). I like that it's not too crowded. Nice area for lifting - wish the free weights area was a little bigger, but I love the equipment. Update: I've been going to this location ever since I moved to BG - Dec 2019. This one has the better equipment and it's the least crowded. They keep the areas pretty clean and repair the equipment when necessary. Restrooms are new and clean. Recently though (2023) some college kids smell like marijuana & it pisses me off. I know the gym management can't do anything about it, but one time the women's locker smelled like dead skunk & beer (what pot smells like to me) so bad I couldn't stand in there. I actually saw the young girl who brought the 420 aura in the house. Another time, the free weights area had the same issue (some college guy). I despise this smell. This gym feels like home to me & I go there to relax & feel good. This is one of the last few traditional gyms in the area as opposed to the crowded tiny chain gyms and Planet Tznius so it doesn't deserve such members. The staff are still friendly. I've had some bad attitudes from a few members (esp catty out of shape guys gossiping about me w/ their gf then waving at me sarcastically from afar) that's to be expected in the south.
Negative experience: It would be fine, if the staff didn’t repeatedly let groups of unruly teenage boys rule the place as if it’s an after school playground. Playing on equipment, running around corners to yell & joke with each other, recording patrons on their cellphones & mocking them with sound effects while they try to work out. Very unacceptable, & I’m surprised it’s an issue seeing that the membership here costs more than almost every other gym in town. I’m assuming they are the children of the owner, or their relatives, because this has been allowed to go on for the past 3 months at least. Looking for another gym soon.
Fantastic experience: It's a great place to workout and the staff is super friendly and works hard to keep it clean too.
Negative experience: Gym has gone down in quality over the years. The south location’s hours were cut by 2 hours during the pandemic and never returned. Saturday hours never returned at all so you have to drive across town on weekends. Damaged equipment has been left broken for months and in some cases years. One piece of broken equipment from 2020 was never remedied however the owner placed a piece of paper on the wall stating that you would lose your membership if you attempted to use the corner of the wall as a replacement. The scottsville road location has outdated and poor quality machines. Scottsville road location benches presses feel completely unsafe to use. You would expect better considering the relatively high membership rates.
Fantastic experience: The staff is courteous and professional! The work out area is open and spacious with plenty of room to breath and move about. I love the ball court availability as well! Overall an excellent facility to use!
Negative experience: The quality of service from BAC has been in decline for some time. With the price tag BAC commands for its membership, the product is lackluster. Staff and hours have been cut, equipment is dated, and cleanliness has been a concern (namely at the Scottsville Road location). There are better quality gyms in the area. There are more affordable gyms in the area. There are gyms with 24/7 access…. You get the point. No matter what you prioritize in a gym membership, there’s someone else in the area that does it better.
Fantastic experience: Clean, spacious, and every type of equipment you can imagine. The staff is always super friendly!
Positive experience: Great place because of hours open! Premiere place for after- hours like the "24 workout"place across town.
Positive experience: Overall, great gym. Great week day and Saturday hours, and a wide variety of equipment to use. Some of the cardio equipment isn't as nice as the equipment on the BAC on Scottsville Rd but overall this gym is nice!
Fantastic experience: It's not that busy and the staff is great
Fantastic experience: A+
Fantastic experience: Clean facility, excellent staff, plenty of room to comfortably work out at your own pace.
Fantastic experience: I wirk out 2 o 3 times per week and is good quiet and frendly place
Fantastic experience: Workout here all the time. Plenty of space and great staff.
Fantastic experience: Great location on south side of Bowling Green. Staff very helpful. Plenty of machines and space.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Fantastic experience: Best facilities in Bowling Green. I have yet to wait to use a weight machine and the equipment are always clean. They have group classes and a full court gym.
Fantastic experience: Love BAC! Clean, nice equipment, friendly staff, great place to work out!!
