BodyScapes Fitness Longwood: Opinions
Negative experience: Recent event - a man was caught taking photos of a woman while she was working out. Even told her that he had these photos and the gym refused to ban him. Not a safe space for women.
Negative experience: Don’t go here. They allow predator men to have memberships and refuse to revoke even after incidents have been reported.
Negative experience: Bodyscapes has unfortunately become a place where the quality of both training and employee experience is seriously lacking. Management appears far more focused on profits than on maintaining standards or supporting their staff. They routinely hire trainers with little to no experience, which compromises the quality of service members receive. The equipment is outdated and poorly maintained, often left in disrepair for extended periods — a clear sign that reinvestment in the facility is not a priority. For staff, there is little to no consideration for work-life balance. Expectations are high, support is minimal, and the environment feels transactional at best. If you're looking for a place that values its employees and prioritizes member experience, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.
Negative experience: Kinda disgusted by the managers here via recent post. Don’t go here
Negative experience: ⚠️ WOMEN — DO NOT GO HERE! ⚠️ A male member took a photo of me without my consent while I was in a vulnerable position. He openly admitted that I am still on his camera roll. When I reported this to management, they refused to revoke his membership. By choosing to protect him, they are enabling men to prey on women. Stay safe — avoid this place!
Positive experience: Nice and clean gym with courteous staff. Equipment is sufficient but could be updated.
Positive experience: Not as nice as their Kendall Square location, but it is larger and has a few more amenities. Still a great spot and super convenient if you work in the LMA. Staff is great and the facility is clean. Some of the benches and machines that had some damaged padding were recently maintained which was a huge improvement!
Positive experience: Convenience is king with gyms, and this place is extremely convenient for those working in Longwood. It's expensive, but the classes help to make it worth it. You also get two free personal training sessions which were excellent; a bit too expensive for me to continue with though.
Positive experience: It’s a gym that has pretty much everything you need. As mentioned in previous reviews, aside from the young female staff member who was unhelpful and seemed annoyed when I first signed up, the rest of the staff are cooperative and friendly.
Fantastic experience: It maintain well with flexible timings. Really good one for tye persons have knowledge of how to use equipments. For beginners, they should struggle by their own or through the person training who are slightly costly.
Negative experience: The location is great for those who work at longwood medical area, but that's the only advantage. Even when equipment breaks down, it is not maintained properly, and the number of equipment is not enough compared to the number of people using it. The shampoo and body wash in the shower room had a strange color and smell and seemed to be spoiled. The quality is such that I would never go there if it weren't for the location.
Hi Minjin, Thank you for the feedback. If something is broken or not working correctly please let us know so we can address it. Please let any of our customer service reps know at the front desk. We will look into these issues as we want you to have a great experience. Thank you.
Positive experience: Very correct for the price. A bit small hence the 4 stars review.
Positive experience: I went to this gym for over a year, it is decent. A bit pricey for what they offer, but they do offer discounts for some employers in the area (ie. hospitals) and towel service (!). It is really about the convenient location. If you go in non-peak areas (any time except 5-7 pm), you can get a hassle-free workout. Group classes were very good - not too crowded. Locker room was also good, except that sometimes many of the lockers were stuck open with an unknown number combination so you could not use them. One obvious downside is that you could tell the young front desk staff never received any training or had any experience in costumer service at all.
Negative experience: Update: deducting one star. still the same complaint about the showers. The shampoo/bodywash containers have open tops. The bodywash and shampoo look milky when you know they're supposed to be clear. They smell like they've gone bad. Either they have bacteria in them or they have shower water mixed in with them due to the unsecured containers. The towels smelled like detergent and a*s. They do the laundry in house in their own washing machines. You would think they could use a commercial laundry service that would clean these towels properly with hot water and bleach but nope. Really a shame since it's the only gym in the medical area. _______________________________________ Great location if you're in the longwood area often. The gym has a decent selection of equipment and has ample space. I deduct 2 stars because of the dirty locker rooms. There's always paper towels on the floor by the sinks, toilets are often dirty, and soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower are often broken, or worse, the tops of the dispensers are open and who knows what's gotten inside those containers and mixed into the soap/shampoo. Also, there's no obvious bin for putting used towels inside the locker room. To me it appears like maintenance/cleaning is done just once every couple of days or less.
Hi Mike, Thank you for your feedback. We will communicate these issues to the Gm of the location so they can be addressed. The towel drop for the locker rooms is located right outside the door to the locker rooms. Thanks.
Positive experience: Decent
Negative experience: Waaaay too crowded during peak times. Wish it were larger to support the number of members. Machines/equipment seems dirtier than other gyms I’ve been to.
Negative experience: Super crowded, expensive for what they offer, small weight room , locker rooms are adequate and well lit. This gym needs to expand if they want to keep charging what they do.
Positive experience: As mentioned in others' reviews, this gym is the only fitness center in the area. The facility is overall outdated. During peak hours around 5PM, there's almost always a wait time for many of the free weights. If this were a $30-$50 per month type of gym, the overall quality of this gym would be expected and acceptable. Hence I think this gym is overpriced for what you get. They need to get more free weights/benches/squat racks and update their equipment to justify their price. Or make better use of the large space they have by moving some of the cardio equipment, etc. But given this is the only gym in the area, the lack of competition basically allows a continued flux of members without other options.
Positive experience: I went to this gym for 6 months since it was next to my work. Overall decent gym and good staff except one trainer who warned me for “speaking on my phone too loud”. I am definitely not a loud talker however i might have done it unconsciously, idk. when i asked him if there is such a rule in the gym, he didn’t even look at me and said “i don’t know, need to ask my boss”. He was rude especially considering he talks very loudly in the gym with his “bros”. but this was only one guy.
Hi Ali, Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for this. We do try to ask people to taken calls of the gym floor so it doesn’t interfere with others working out. I am glad that you enjoyed the gym except for this one experience.
Negative experience: The most crowded, overpriced, gym I ever been to. And the equipments are so broken and old.
Hi Barry, Thank you for the feedback. We always want our members to have a great experience. Please let the staff know if there is a broken piece of equipment so we can have it fixed. Thanks.
Positive experience: I had a ClassPass yoga here and enjoyed it (even though it, annoyingly, started late). However afterwards I went to the front desk to get an idea if I did want a membership there and the man at the front desk was so unhelpful. He just gave me the rate and I tried asking what else comes with the gym and he said “basically just the classes”. Didn’t tell me what the classes are, didn’t offer me a tour or anything. I would’ve considered a membership but it doesn’t seem like a place I want to spend my money
Positive experience: Visited with a day pass while staying in the area. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good variety of equipment.
Thanks Heather! Hope to see you back soon.
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym in the LMA
Thank you! Enjoy your workouts.
Positive experience: This gym is great for location and the only gig in the area. The staff are friendly and sympathetic to things, like having half the treadmills broken, and the lockers too. The showers are ok. Overall decent, but for this price point I would expect functioning equipment.
Hi Joan, Thank you for your feedback. We are in the process of having the equipment fixed. Please don't hesitate to reach out for anything in the future.
Fantastic experience: Nice people in the back of a laboratory building. Pretty well equipped.
Negative experience: I gave it 2 stars for location. Not many classes. Basically no advanced yoga offered. Management does not really care about the members or the staff. And the pay is very low. Having previously worked for fitcorp I was grandfathered in when BodyScapes bought the club. The quality went down very quickly. I had many students who loved my classes. But the pay was too low for my experience.
Positive experience: Ok equipment but very expensive
Positive experience: Large spaces and plenty of equipment. Only gripe is that they are always low on wipes
Thank you Ada for the review and the feedback.
Negative experience: I had a similar experience to Scarlett: This gym will ignore your attempts to cancel your membership and will continue charging your account until they have bilked as much as they can from you. If you join, make sure to pay with a method which lets you contest post-cancellation fees.
Positive experience: Decent overall gym. No parking. Very small with limited equipment options, but you can still get in a good workout. They offer fitness classes of varying degrees and difficulty levels. Unfortunately the one on Beacon Street closed due to its inability to recover from the pandemic, so this is the only option for members who live in the area. The people that work here are very nice, helpful and have great attitudes about helping others achieve their fitness goals. The treadmills are older and a few are broken and have been for many weeks which makes me think that they may not be open for much longer.
Negative experience: Avoid this place! Charge you after the membership termination! I canceled my membership last year, but they continue charging my credit card for 12 months. Talked to the manager. The manager was very rude and refuse a refund. He said they could not find my cancellation form and my membership was never cancelled. But the next day, when I asked the front desk to check my membership status, the front desk told me my membership was terminated last year. The manager still refuse to issue a refund. If you want to join this club, make sure cancel your credit card when you terminate your membership.
Negative experience: Got a membership when I started my new job at Dana Farber. The gym is outdated, overcrowded, unclean, and the quality of equipment is far behind what the same money can buy for another membership elsewhere in the city. The only plus this facility has is the location, as it provides convenience to employees and students that work/study in the Longwood area. Not worth the money and I would not recommend to anyone frankly.
Fantastic experience: Amazing and clean place
Thank you Cesar!
Positive experience: Very clean, good upkeep, a bit pricy but will be worth the cost when amenities are open
Fantastic experience: Bodyscapes Longwood is a fantastic facility, and very much needed in the Longwood area. It has a nice range of equipment, as well as a studio area that you can use if a class isn't in session. Everything is clean, and the locker rooms are very well kept, with lots of good amenities. I have also used the Cambridge location which is good too.
Thank you Stacey!
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out. I go in the mornings because it's less people. Its not as big as a planet fitness but it still has good equipment.. shower, towel service and personal trainers
Negative experience: Small. Not all cardio machines working properly. Having to unplug & replug in machines to get them to work. No duplicate equipment. Having to wait for equipment. If it wasn't for the work discount & limited gym options in the Longwood area, I wouldn't be there.
Positive experience: Have some cool stuff like a punching bag, ropes, ski machine, various treadmills/bikes. Area for free weights is small and janky but have the essentials like a square rack and dumbbells. Didn't go to a class so I can't speak on that front. Bring your own water bottle, the cups are the triangular one-sip ones. Can use it to fill up your bottle though. Have towels in the front and locker rooms were spacious.
Negative experience: I am attending this gym since 2015 as this gym is located at the building where I work (Longwood). This year there's a new staff which is particularly rude. I exercise in the evening (because that is what my schedule is) and she starts yelling at around 9-50 that the gym is closing and at 9-55 she was pushing away everyone. I am changing in the office so I was going to leave strict at 10 pm. If the gym is closing at earlier time, please indicate this on your website; so people will know it when they will consider to sign up for this gym.
Positive experience: Hard to find (inside the medical center), but well equipped gym. I loved the multiple power racks and plentiful chalk. The staff was ambivalent at best
Fantastic experience: Good gym
Negative experience: went on a trial Wednesday evening after work, dirty and didn't look like it had been cleaned in days. Rude front desk staff, convenient yes but is it worth it? The classes are not convenient for people who work a day job. The website is enticing but they need to up their game.
Negative experience: Went there on trial. Was hopeful when I read the older reviews. Never seen a more dirty gym in my life. Rude and angry staff on top of that. Glad I went on trial before signing up
Positive experience: This gym is great if you work in Harvard Medical or Brigham and Womens Hospital jobs in the immediate area where you get a significant discount. If I didn't I'd certainly not dish out $100 a month regardless of the equipment and facility quality and cleanliness. Standard gym equipment, 4 or 5 barbell bench stations, lots of kettlebells and freeweights. Numerous up-to-date treadmills and other cardio machines mostly facing walls and windows (while not much of a view you still are unlikely to have anyone creepin on ya given all the equipments positioning). Locker rooms pretty immaculate, bright, full of mirrors, hair driers, gym supplied and cleaned towels... bit beyond what is typical. Wifi available and decent background music throughout if you forget or don't feel like bothering with managing your own that day. Enough to keep you awake and in stride though not likely to get you as pumped as something you'd bring from home. I cannot vouch for the quality of any classes or trainers as I have not utilized these features myself.
Fantastic experience: Look at how happy I am doing squats!! Who looks happy doing so many squats? This gym made me happy to do squats. Great music, happy people, clean and big space, and trainers who see exercise as a celebration of what the body can do not as a form of punishment for what you ate last night. I urge everyone who works at Harvard to join and experience this life changing place with me! (BTW -- super discounted rates for those of us who work at Harvard Medical School!!)
Fantastic experience: This is a great gym for its size. I don't do all that much on machines or with group classes so I can't review those. However, it has two full power cages. Two trap bars. Female Olympic bars! (They're narrower so smaller hands can grip better.) Two sets of bumper plates. Two bench presses in addition to incline and decline press. For a gym as small as this one is its excellent for strength training/power lifting. Dumbbells go well over a hundred pounds and there are several sets of kettlebells as well. The trainers are very good at actually listening to what you're aiming for and helping you reach goals. They'll teach good form for lifts and help you work on your programming rather than throw you into a one-size-fits-all conditioning program. It does have a full complement of treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, spin bikes, strength machines, etc as well.
Positive experience: It's a clean and well equipped place. But their timings are ridiculous. Very inconvenient for those with a full time job. Just when you think of working out during a long weekend, they'll surprise you with a little notice that says they close at 2 pm!
Fantastic experience: Convenient gym for people working in the Longwood area.
Fantastic experience: A nice large gym with plenty of space, weights, and machines. Definitely a good value if you have an employee discount of some type. The ability to use the other locations is nice as well.
Positive experience: Bodyscapes is a just fine Gym. I go because it's close to work, and I get a killer discount which makes it super cheap for. Heres my honest feeling - this gym has all the amenities of a really expensive fancy gym, but it seems a little bit ... old. Nothing is dirty or gross, but it just seems like the kind of place where they put a bunch of stuff in 15 years ago, and keep it up nicely, but havent done much else to it. Staff is friendly and welcoming when you enter - because lets be honest, most of us...definitely myself... need a smile to welcome you to the torturous sweat filled hell we're walking into for the next hour plus. As far as the equipment goes - its really solid. The space is fairly small, but they have a good number of machines. roughly 30 or so treadmills, 15 or so elliptical style machines (3 different varieties), a stairclimber (or maybe 2 ... i HATE stairs), 4 rowers, a bunch of different weight machines, as well as a free-weight area, and a room for classes. As for the locker rooms, this is the biggest area where the place seems to keep its opening day charm. The tile seems worn, the lockers are chipped and missing number badges, and the carpets look like they could use a once over. The bathroom is maintained pretty well, and the showers also. They showers are stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash - as lots of guests go before work in the area) - and towels are provided, both for showering, and smaller towels for face sweat wiping while working out. Theres also a sauna, which I'm convinced I might be the only person using, as Ive literally never seen anyone else go in or out. well... more for me. I probably wont take photos, because well... thats wierd.
Fantastic experience: I got a membership here and regularly come to train my muscle. It is a very great place. Love it!
Negative experience: Pros: location Cons: hot during summer months and crowded for the rest of the year, poorly maintained, passive-aggressive and very politically opinionated training staff, relatively expensive. Conclusion: if the location is not an issue for you then there are far better deals out there.
Positive experience: Nice location, close to work for me. The equipment seems fine, but some things are scattered about. Lunch time seems to be pretty quiet, especially on Fridays. I'd recommend going here if you get a discount, but it'd be tough for me to pay full price.
Positive experience: Lots of equipment. The place is almost never cleaned, high prices compared to all of the others clubs out there.
Fantastic experience: I'm a regular (2-4x/wk). It's convenient, well kept and the staff are all friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Free towel service. Rarely too busy to get a good work out in. They offer plenty of classes
Fantastic experience: Nice rowing machines
Fantastic experience: Very good facilities. Never crowded. Classes are excellent.
