Our comment from FitFit United States about BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex:

BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex, located in Oak Park, offers a variety of fitness facilities designed to accommodate many workout preferences. Many users appreciate the spacious environment and the availability of machines, which allows members to work out without waiting for equipment. The gym generally maintains a low crowd level, creating a comfortable atmosphere for those who prefer a more private workout experience.

Positive Aspects:

  • Spacious gym with a wide range of equipment
  • Typically not crowded, allowing for a more relaxed atmosphere
  • Friendly and helpful staff, contributing to a welcoming environment
  • Juice bar offering tasty smoothies and protein shakes
  • Good maintenance of gym cleanliness in general

However, despite the positives, several users have expressed concerns, particularly regarding customer service issues and additional fees. Some members have reported confusion over hidden fees, such as initiation and cancellation charges, leading to dissatisfaction with billing practices. Additionally, there have been complaints about the maintenance of certain equipment as well as the availability and professionalism of staff during operating hours, resulting in a perception of inadequate service.

Negative Aspects:

  • Occurrences of broken or unmaintained equipment
  • Rude customer service experiences reported by members
  • Confusion over cancellation fees and terms
  • Inconsistent staff availability at the front desk
  • Occasional uncleanliness in specific areas

Overall, while BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex has potential with its spacious and well-equipped environment, prospective members should be cautious about the membership terms and consider previous customer feedback to ensure their experience aligns with their expectations.

Negative experience: This place is a SHAM business. My son's $35/month membership somehow turned into $83/month becuase of "maintenance" fees. In 40 years of gym memberships I have never seen such a convoluted, rip-off system. I have memberships at the ymca and ffc. Only added it because it was close to home. No decent company charges $199 if you leave in less than 4 months (after a sign up fee) and $75 fee for leaving. I let the woman rattle off her justifications, and left it at that. DO NOT BOTHER MESSING WITH THESE PEOPLE. NO ONE IS EVER AT THE DESK... THEY TURN UP AT NOON IF YOU ARE LUCKY. HEED ALL THE BAD REVIEWS... IT IS FOR REAL!

Negative experience: There are a number of machines that are broken or need additional pieces. Please tape the rope up so that it doesn’t continue to shed. Also the seated bike is broken and has been for over a year. Where is all the equipment that was at the previous location on Madison? This gym could be so much better. The treadmills are so dust like they are never cleaned. Stair master is broken. Please consider some new machines!!!!!

Negative experience: My Review is zero, I made a mistake by not looking at other peoples’s review before signing the contract. The front desk staff was exrtemely rude and distrespectful. The staff is not even doing theire job and not available during theire work hours, I came in with teenage son and wanted to get him a day pass and was waiting for the staff to show and when the staff came he was extremely rude and told me that my membership is cancelled and I need to leave and upon asking what he can do, he constantly keep saying “ There is nothing I can do”. This has happend before where he threatend to cancel my mebership just because I walked through the front door. I just dont want other people to have this unacceptable custermor service. When I talked to the general manager she was saying “I need to pay 4 months of fee even if I dont want to continue the memebership”. And based on my conversation with her I felt like she was supporting the abusive staff. I hope this review helps other people. Thank you for reading.

Hello Rehan Mohammed ,thank you for your review and the opportunity to share the details of our memberships , your membership and the details of this incident. This information can be found on the website, discussed during tours and reviewed before/during final sign up as well as it being the customers responsibility to read and ask questions before completing the sign up. process The process is extremely transparent . As you are aware and reminded of, we have audio and video to ensure our members safety and to provide proper resolution to any inquiries, concerns incidents etc. Per your comment you spoke with me and you stated you felt like I "was supporting the abusive staff". Your prior statement as well as your quote are simple not true ( audio available). I requested details of your experience and advised that I would investigate and review audio and video and provide you with resolution. You did not like this response and insisted that I speak with your minor son as "evidence" and that 'I firer the staff immediately because you felt embrassed.' I advised that I would not be doing that as it is not our process without details and a review of the means we have available. You then stated that you had read the reviews prior to joining and that you would be posting this review but would remove if the staff was fired. I advised the was not our/my procedure. Again, memberships and policies are transparent and detailed -it does not serve the business best interest, purpose or mission to operate with out explicit policies and communication. We take our members safety within the facility seriously and we ask that every ,member participate in this goal. Findings based on audio, video and facility logs: On 12/04/2024 you joined the the facility. You came in to the facility to complete your registration. It is at this time that WE REVIEW AND HIGHLIGHT THE POLICIES THAT YOU SIGNED OFF ON AND INITIALED. While staff was reviewing the policies you insisted that you were aware and did not need the review. the staff explained " I understand that your have read the policies however I must review them for clarity and understanding they are important and it's my job requirement...". One of the policies is no TAILGATING. You can not bring nonmembers into the members door. Guest are allowed during certain days and hours and there is a fee. Mr Mohammed, based on audio and video you violated this policy for the first time the day after you joined and was warned again.  The notes taken from that incident indicate you were short with the staff member and "stated you were just coming over to pay and you just want to pay" . Within the next , 2 weeks of your membership you again allowed a non member through the members door without initial set up and payment. This would have resulted in IMMEDIATE CANCELATION however, as a good will gesture you were warned and readvised of the POLICY. On the day of this incident, staff was available. The public door was open to access staff. Instead of entering the door ( there is an alarm that alerts staff if they are not visible) for guests, you again entered through the members doors door ( door scan reviewed) you walked past the opened internal door entrance where staff was available (and door has an alert for staff ) and walked to the locker area. You left the locker area with your guest and proceeded to workout. Mr Mohammed, as per the agreement that you signed and was verbally advised of this was a violation on the membership policy. Staff advised you of the POLICY which is AUTO CANCELED by the facility alerts. Again, we are committed to ALL members to ensure their safety and that members dues remain "grandfathered". ALL members are asked and required to follow said POLICY. With that said, your immediate cancelation was warranted. We wish you well on your fitness journey.

Negative experience: As someone who has come here for over a year because it was the only place close by and I didn’t have a car, This place is “ok- meh”. If bare minimum was a place, it’s this gym. Their customer service is not the best. Just read how they argue with every reviewer in the comments. Pros: - Not usually busy - Good machines, occasionally need tuning up, but it’s hard to get a hold of staff or make a request machines get fixed if you don’t go from 10-6 - Good crowd of gym goers Cons: - They charge an $80 enrollment fee, 60$ biannual fee, 75$ cancellation fee - Staff is barely around so asking them to fix or tend to something is hard. - Not open on holidays and their hours on Google, the door, and online are usually wrong. - They’ve had a hole in the ceiling that water comes in from for like 2 year. They put buckets in front of the chest fly machine to catch all the water. (see photos) - They rarely clean the men’s bathroom and sometimes it smells. I’ve gone to the gym days in a row and the soap isn’t filled up or the same pee stains or stains under the hand dryer are still there. When I’ve approached staff, they lie and say they did it “yesterday” even though I was there yesterday. (See photos) Happened on numerous occasions. - Only 1 of 3 sinks work in the men’s bathroom and the soap dispensers are either broken or they suck. If you stick your hand under it to get soap, like 3 drops of soap come out. Not even kidding. I told the lady about the state of the handwashing situation and she rolled her eyes at me. - Water filter for the bottle station desperately needs to be changed cause it has a mildew taste. To make sure I wasn’t crazy, I’ve talked to two other gym goers there and they agreed. - They don’t communicate with their customers. They barely promote the classes they have and they don’t let people know about updated seasonal hours. -When you cancel your membership, you have to turn in your fob 30days before you lose access. This means you have limited access to the facility you’re still paying for for a whole month because you have to go when the juice bar is open. - I personally don’t like the juice bar smoothies or juices. Womp - Any time I’ve made a request or told the lady about an issue, dear lord does she have an attitude. All around, I get the impression this place is run by people who like the idea of running a gym, but hate handling the maintenance side.

Positive experience: During the pandemic, they closed and moved without telling me. When I called, they acted like I should know what's going on. I didn't realize they moved all the way to North Ave. The new facility with parking was nice, and there usually wasn't anyone there. Some of the machines consistently didn't work and it seemed kind of dirty, but it was fine. I ended up cancelling because the rec center opened and was pleasantly surprised when the process was simple.

Negative experience: By far the worst gym in Illinois period. the gym is dirty and filthy. If you don't believe me just pass by and look at the outside window. hasn't been clean or wash in over a year. $80 enrollment fee maintenance fee of $49 on Jan 1st and July 1st. the equipment is outdated and broken. The equipment is outdated and broken. this is 2024 no gyms are charged you outrageous enrollment fees and locking you into a contract. I guarantee if you were pass by this place anytime of the day you see no more than 5 cars in the parking lot and 3 of them are staff members.

Fantastic experience: Pretty solid gym, lots of room to try all the machines. The team there has been friendly to me. I think it’s important to be graceful to them because it’s a small staff. Only thing to note is, the cleaning could be a bit improved, I say that graciously. Anyway the smoothie bar is cool and the calisthenics space is always available.

Ryan Hampe 2 years ago

Negative experience: PLEASE READ. Scam. Extra Fees NOT AS CHEAP as advertised You’ll get charged a bunch of extra fees. Can’t leave without getting charged. They never tell you this or make it seem like you don’t have to. Make sure you read all fine print and do not just listen to what is said. I literally went in and asked what we had to do to cancel and was told “turn in your fob and thats it. You will stop being billed and your account will be closed at the end of the month” Until I was billed out of nowhere. Luckily its only $125 to cancel so not even worth my time to argue. SCAM. Seeing the replys to the negative comments, kinda proves everyones points. And shows how they run their business.

BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex

Hello Ryan, thank you for your review and the opportunity to share the details of our memberships. This information can be found on the website opbodyworx.com, discussed during tours and reviewed before/during final sign up as well as it being the customers responsibility to read and ask questions before signing up. The process is extremely transparent . In addition, the ONLY info given when a FOB is being returned for cancellation is: ' an email receipt for the fob with the final cancelation described will be sent to email on file and only member's response is needed for completion'. Your quoted statement is not accurate because billing is determined by the date you return your FOB and your membership type. It could be different for each member and that info is not available to staff. It is my understand that you had a conversation with one of the managers prior to your review and after this review. There are no hidden fees. Based on your membership type and the special that you signed up for, your initial half of your sign up was deferred and the 30 day notice. You indicated you did not remember being told that so yes, it is important to read the information presented. Your final payment is that $75.00 (not 125.00) because your 30 day notice was accepted as of your draft on the 1st of July. The early termination fee based on your special that you signed up for was waived as a good will gesture and was within 2-3 days of expiring. It is unfortunate that you feel you were scam. We have provided a service for thousands of members many with years of longevity with the facility and it's the end, the not remembering that change a positive experience in to a negative experience for a few. Again, memberships are transparent and detailed it does not serve the business best interest, purpose or mission to operate as a scam. We wish you well on your fitness journey!

Negative experience: Came in to sign up for a membership. Nobody was at the desk so I walked around looking to see who I could talk to about signing up. An employee came out of nowhere thinking that I was trying to get on for free. Tried to talk to him about a membership but he had a very “get out” attitude.

BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex

Hello Darnell, we are a key access facility only therefore it is not possible that you were able to "just walk in and walk around".The hours on the door provide signup information hours as well as indicate that our facility is "MEMBERS ONLY". I am guessing with the time of this review that you attempted this today. The signup tour hours as per the door listing starts at 12 noon. In addition, the Juice Bar has been open and available for scheduled tours since 9am. Our Front Desk is via the Juice Bar which is the door adjacent to the "MEMBERS ONLY DOOR". The manager has been available since 9AM "she" will be there until 5pm today. If you would like to call to discuss sign up and this concern please do so or visit the website at www.opbodyworx.com for member hours, tour hours, rates and a virtual tour. So sorry your intial "experience" without actually being a member warranted a 1 star review. Let's get you scheduled for a tour and information we are available.

Positive experience: EF is an excellent health club; there's more than enough exercise equipment for all. The club is always clean never crowded and the staff is friendly and helpful. I sincerely appreciate the fact that club members are respectful of one another and always wipe down their equipment after use. My one request is that the club offer spinning classes.

Suzanne Farr 2 years ago

Positive experience: It's okay. Bare-basics club with some noisy-grunting men. ( Really, guys?) Tends to be on the dirty side...Jose is nice, though, and if you need to work-out and your on a budget...this really works. Now I am trying to end my membership and it has three steps to it. The third step I am having a lot of trouble with. I wouldn't have even bothered with a review except that I have emailed, called and given my key, but I still have to LOGIN to some site that manages their accounts. This is terribly inconvenient. READ THE PAPER WORK CAREFULLY or you will end up paying for months that you don't want to! It makes me think they don't really care about you, just want your $$$$.

Erica Williams 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I am very pleased with EF. They have a lot of equipment. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is very clean and open. I like all the TVs and the large windows for outdoor viewing while working out. They also have a great smoothies bar. Parking is good. What more can you ask for from a fitness center! June

Fantastic experience: I'm temporary visitor to oak park and dont like to miss my workouts when im travelling. this place was great for me. $10 per session. No membership. Or $5 per session if u are visiting with another member. Theres also a $60 per month I think. Spacious gym. Lots of equipment (but basic). Dont expect treadmills with touch TVs.

Peter Tambroni 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: This is a gym to really workout in. And that's what I like - no frills (no locker room or towels) but plenty of weights, machines, and space to workout. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

W Jepson 2 years ago

Positive experience: I am very happy with the amount of equipment and machines. They are in good repair and clean. Admittedly the place shows its age- and the fact that it was once a car dealership, however they make a good attempt at keeping it nice and the staff is extremely nice.. I am very pleased with my personal trainer Dave. He is very knowledgeable and great to work with. I would like to see a water fountain installed somewhere in the main area. It is ok that there are vending machines for water but there should be an alternative. Overall for the price especially it is unbeatable.

Noelle U 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I like this gym!! My fiancé and I have been going for two years now! This gym is well cared for and they listen to your concerns. There’s usually not a huge crowd which I also like because it’s limited capacity. You can only get in with a member key fob and I feel very safe. Also some of the people that work out here are some of my favorite people I’ve interacted with. I’m naturally introverted so that’s a huge plus for me. Their smoothie bar is absolutely fire, sooo good. If something isn’t working right or missing it’s usually replaced or working again the very next day. I’ve started bringing in guests because I’ve enjoyed the environment so much. This place deserves none of the hate it’s gotten in the reviews. My one recommendation is that Bodyworx should have a member pet night out in the parking lot one of these beautiful fall nights! I love Lynn’s dog popcorn so cute!

BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex

Greetings Noelle U! Thank you for your AWESOME review! It is fantastic and appreciated when we receive feedback from a valued member such as yourself , expressing the experience we strive daily to create for all of our member family! Just Watch 3 years ago

Negative experience: ((((((never saw an establishment gets so belligerent over a review you can't handle criticism))))))) NEVER SEEN A BEWARE!!!!! Place is a JOKE, I was set to join until they said it's a $80 start up /enrollment fee. what a scam and if you cancel at anytime there is a $150 fee. This is the worst gym I have ever seen so far. They run a fraud company. They have tons of hidden charges that they will never let you know. They will only advertise $20.22 charges but additionally you will be charged annually for maintenance, cancellation and many more, so your total gym fees will be like $200 or so. They have tons of hidden policies and when you ask them about it once you are cheated they will have no answer but to say “you will have to go to court for that”. Their equipments are old and you will definitely get a better gym at a good deal somewhere else.

BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex

Just Watch ..Were you a victim of a scam or is this an attempt to bad mouth our business, As your profile is new and we suspect (more reasons for this to come in our response) created just for these accusations. Unfortunately we find in this industry cancelled past members for gym policies take to this forum to express the disappointment and exact some kind of revenge. While we understand the disappointment of loosing your privileges the responsibility is yours. With that said, the startup fee is not $80 and we do not have a $150 cancellation fee with month to month memberships. Regarding the advertisement for $20.22 you must be referring to our January sale which was $20.22 to start and included your first month. Which leads us to believe you were a past member that was cancelled for gym violations. Or it literally took you 5 months to write this review. Again we are sorry you were cancelled and wish you luck in your future fitness goals. For everyone else reading this review we encourage you to experience for yourself. Check us out at www.opbodyworx.com/FAQ and you will be able to read all of our policies. Also take a look at www.trybodyworx.com to experience how we explain our sale memberships in detail. No Scam here....we also require potential members to have toured the facility prior to completing signup whether you signup online or in person. Our facility is only 2 years old and we are proud to offer services to our many members. We are a locally owned and operated business that survives on its reputation and excellent customer service. PLEASE JUDGE FOR YOURSELF...

Conservative Matters 3 years ago

Negative experience: Very unprofessional business practice. Membership is ridiculous for a non 24 hour gym.. $80 startup fee and a annual maintenance fee of $100.00. And you only have access to certain areas of the gym. And equipment look very generic. I was there on a Monday evening. I counted like eight people in the whole gym. Which really isn't bad. I don't like crowded gym. It just tell you something is wrong. The staff is very arrogant and offensive when you ask hard question.

BodyWorx Fitness Multiplex

Conservative Matters.. It is very apparent that you are not and never have been a member, nor have you actually visited the facility, especially not on a Monday Evening. THIS IS A SHAME REVIEW..written in an attempt to bully the facility. If you were a member you would know the 24hr process and if you came by on Monday, you would know that there are no tours on Monday (members only). However you are correct our facility is never crowd, It was designed that way. One of the biggest concern these days are over crowded and close proximity during a strenuous work out. It is also because our facility has another side other than the main area and a second floor. NO WAITING FOR EQUIPMENT, NO CROWDS....seems like that would be a plus! Regarding those other areas, Boxing, TRX Room, Function Training and Recovery area all open to every member during non class times. This is all explained during every tour of the facility and quit obvious as you walk through the facility as all areas are open and free to use. Regarding unprofessional staff members, our staff members are always held accountable through our review process which includes audio recordings. I would be curious to know what questions could be hard to answer in a fitness center? In any fitness center(rates, fees, dues, hours, cancellation policy, gym rules). For everyone else reading this review we encourage you to experience for yourself. Check us out at www.opbodyworx.com/FAQ and you will be able to read all of our policies. Also take a look at www.trybodyworx.com to experience how we explain our sale memberships in detail (and by the way if this person visited this facility in June he would know we are $0 down now and 2 months free). With that said, no scam here... BUT THIS REVIEWER CERTAINLY IS!

Fantastic experience: I registered to the gym for a month, to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of equipments and ambiance. In another gym where I used to be a member of (outside Illinois), it was always crowded , and unorganised. Staff is welcoming, good equipment (I don t have to wait to use an equipment), good community of members and clean facility which is what I look for as a customer. I am currently considering to extend my membership (hoping for a good rate I heard they run promotions from time to time, fingers crossed there will be one before my month ends). I also like the fact there is a juice bar where I can quickly grab my protein shake before walking out. I definitely recommend to try both services.

Negative experience: This gym was a decent facility to use during the pandemic because they are rarely busy. However, after a few months of steady attendance, I grew to regret my decision of joining this gym. I knew something wasn't right when the manager, Lynn ran through all the random fees they have while I was signing up. However, I bit the bullet and joined anyway because my husband was a member. -God forbid you forget your key fob, they will make it very difficult to get in because there isn't a consistent person working during the open hours. I accidentally forgot my fob and Lynne was very rude when I called about the situation to try to get in. This gym seems to be ran by people who want to own a business, but don't want to really do the work that it takes to run a gym AND provide quality customer service. -They initially advertised as a 24 hour gym, however, they close at 9pm during the week and 5pm on weekends. -Men and women share a small locker room, which is rarely cleaned and most of the locker doors are broken. -They have a smoothie/sandwich cafe that is open during the day, but the hours are very unpredictable, depending on when the employees want to work. This cafe is actually the best part of the gym because the food is really good, but again, good luck trying to get someone to actually work to make something. -I have belonged to several gyms and have never seen employees walk around and tell their patrons what to do with the equipment. NEVER. People might forget to put weights up, or drop them if they're heavy. IT'S A GYM. Don't even think about laying a jacket down in the gym area. -Oh and they have so many fees if you decide you want to cancel which I haven't experienced at previous gyms that I have been a member of. Why do you need a $150 cancellation fee for a gym membership with no contract??? That seems like a contract to me. BUYER BEWARE: You get what you pay for. Update based on the business's response: Clearly the response below is a specific representation and further emphasizes the lack of quality customer service and management's inability to receive and professionally respond to constructive feedback. I won't waste any more time refuting the response line by line, but my main piece of advice would be to really go through the contract and fees with a fine tooth comb before you join. Don't just look at the low monthly dues because you will end up paying in the end. There are several other reviews below that mention concerns with the contract and fees. Both my husband and I had separate concerns that we wanted to share, but that doesn't make us bullies. This forum is meant for users to share their honest thoughts, so I left a constructive review. I have never violated any of the gym policies, so that statement simply untrue along with other statements in the response. My favorite sandwich is actually the chicken on the torta bread. Never had the steak. Thanks for the extra promo towards my review! It’s clear they are lacking in customer service but also in understanding how consumers utilize Google reviews.

BULLIES! GOOGLE READERS BEWARE! THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHY READERS MUST TRUST THEIR OWN JUDGMENT & UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PLATFORM GIVES MORE DISGRUNTLED PEOPLE ACCESS TO ATTEMPT TO BULLY & BAD MOUTH A BUSINESS! The memberships for both E.G (ERIN) & SLICK MAN (JASON) -THE SLACKS were automatically cancelled due to violations of common gym etiquette , inappropriate language &threatening comments (audio& video on file & reviewed). Their rating & comments are the results of this cancellation! Jason was a member of the facility since 2020 &  had his wife  E. G to join during a family& friends offer in 2021. Why would Jason have his wife join a facility that she / he felt they needed to "bite the bullet" to join?? Erin aka E.G why would you allow someone to "run" though policies & fees, then sign your name? E.G why would you not read your agreement & make an informed decision for yourself & your needs? Why will you not take responsibility for your own actions & decisions? Instead, you have chosen to take the disgruntled, bully route! "God forbid you forget your access fob"? Did you not know you were on your way to the gym that requires fob access? Weren't you aware you joined a members only facility that requires fob access? Why would you not state that you were aware of this before joining or did you not read your agreement? Did you forget your initial sign-up & first time being assisted w/ entering the club & explained the process?  Why would you not state the facts-sure fobs can be left, lost etc & a member is advised that they can be remotely allowed access into the facility w/out a problem. Why did you not mention that the facility is equipped with audio& video & all calls are recorded & reviewed -call available for review? Why would you not report this "rudeness" & cancel your membership-still you "bit the bullet"-WHY? 24hr facility-you were advised the facility was going to 24hrs & that was the path pre-covid. Based on notes & comments on your file you did not want to attend the facility after a certain hour-why is 24hrs your concern-still "biting the bullet"? Also, please check the website you have the hours incorrect! Men&women share a locker area ? There is a woman's locker area & a men's locker area-did you not see it during the tour?  The common locker area is merely for coats bags etc. & set up due to COVID when locker areas were considered "high touch points" &therefore unusable during covid restrictions. This is the area your husband should have used instead of hanging his items on equipment that is used by members & then stating falsely that "he caught staff red handed stealing".The staff member he mentions was the gym manager & there was no mention of anything missing during his outburst of profanity simply because he chose to hang his coat on equipment rather than a locker. If it were in a locker, all of this could have been avoided. Not to mention Jason failed to mention a thief to any staff member or management. Also, w/ cameras through out the facility how was a theft in progress? Why would one leave items hanging on equipment? You cant even leave unattended items in the airport! Negative experience: Caught one of the employees stealing red handed. Took my property and moved it without my permission. Items missing horrible facility.

Slick Man (Jason). THIS COMMENT IS A TAG TEAM EFFORT FROM A HUSBAND AND WIFE AKA E.G.(Erin). Membership was automatically cancelled due to continued violations of gym etiquette and inappropriate language and threats (video available and reviewed). Why make false statements? "took property and moved" = "stealing"? Why was your property not in a locker? Why was it hanging on equipment used by members? Why was it left hanging to be "stolen". Your membership was cancelled for repeated violations i.e NOT REPLACING WEIGHTS, LITTERING WITHIN THE GYM AND PARKING AREA, STAYING AFTER GYM HOURS WHEN LIGHTS ARE OFF, INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE AND THREATS TO A STAFF MEMBER. Deflection and no responsibility is what you have chosen to use this platform for..GOOGLE READERS BEWARE OF THE MOTIVE BEHIND THE REVIEW! TAKE A LOOK AT HIS REVIEW/RATING OF ANOTHER GYM! Fantastic experience: I have been a member for more than 8 years. I have always enjoyed my time spent at the club so much that I usually work out twice a day. The new club on North ave in Oak Park is state of the art. There is new equipment and plenty of space between machines to comply with covid protocols. Lynn and Don are great club managers who are both Very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to any concerns you may have. I love the juice bar!!! Club is well ventilated, always clean with cleaning supplies located near every workout area. It is number ONE on my list of gyms to attend. GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!! YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THIS ONE!

Positive experience: The gym is big, clean and has all of the machines and free weights you need to hit a good workout. The staff is friendly and their protein shakes and smoothies are amazing. Some of the machines could stand to have their cables oiled up and some of the dumbbells' need to be replaced but for the price per month you definitely get more than you pay for.

Fantastic experience: The new Location of OP Bodyworks is Amazing! They have their own parking lot which great for getting in and out for a great workout. The staff is very helpful and did I mention they have a recovery bar?? That's right they serve heathy sandwiches which is made fresh, CDB infused smoothies, coffee's, high octane pre and post workout drinks. Everytime I'm at BodyWorks I feel safe and can easily use the equipment. If you are leery/hesitant about going to this Gym during COVID, I strongly recommend you visit the new gym first....I'm sure you will change your mind

Fantastic experience: My first time visiting The general manager was super helpful and informative as well as pleasant ( that matters ) She gave us a tour of the facility.. very clean not too cluttered and to me the air was more breathe-able than most gyms . Their smoothie Bar is bomb!!!! Super good stuff that also tastes good .. I am currently a member of X-Sport fitness . Without a shadow of doubt I’m switching over to this gym !

Negative experience: Terrible gym with no parking and horrible customer service. Nobody at front desk. Just a bell to ring for service. I rung the bell to which a disembodied voice said “be right there”. 15min later still no one!?!

Haziq Zahir 6 years ago

Negative experience: Chose the gym because of the location and what seemed like a decent monthly price. On top of initiation fees and a $70 cancellation fee, they charge a bi-annual $35 maintenance fee which is ridiculous. Over half the gym area doesn't have proper ventilation, meaning its unbearable warm in the summer time and cold in the winter time. When I tried to cancel my membership on the 28th of the month (my bill date is the 1st of every month) they charged me for the following month, a maintenance fee, and a cancellation fee even though they mentioned when I started that the last month is included when you sign up. The gym might be worth the price if the pricing was more honest and they didn't tack on fees that weren't mentioned when signing up.

Negative experience: Watch out for the $67 cancellation fee.

Janet Ferguson 6 years ago

Negative experience: Poor customer serviced. No way to know about unexpected closures other than driving over there. No info available on web site or voice mail message. No way to contact for information during unmanned hours. Pro: possible to work out without large screen TV in my face, staff pleasant when present.

Dan Marvan 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: A simple gym for a cheap price. Nothing fancy here but for the price you couldn't ask for more. The staff is friendly and they offer multiple classes.

Mary Kay Ayers 8 years ago

Negative experience: After I moved from the area and cancelled my membership, they continued to deduct "annual fees" from my bank account. Very deceptive.

Kaylie Ludwig 8 years ago

Negative experience: The gym has poor circulation and the workout areas are always in various states of paused construction. On top of them even when you are out of your promotional period and try to cancel you will pay your yearly maintanence fee as well as an additional month for canceling.

NomadaNare 8 years ago

Negative experience: TL;DR Gym is ratty, equipment is old. For the same headache and price you could be at an LA Fitness, which has better equipment and a pool. The gym is built in an old Cadillac car dealership which has not been properly renovated to house a safe environment for working out. Equipment fell apart while I used it and the entire area not locked off during "manned" hours leaks when it rains. When I canceled the membership to move out of state, instead of delivering notice to their third party billing company they said it was my responsibility to do so and that it was "in the contract". I was then charged for three additional months plus late fees while out of state. Their employees logged that I had relinquished access to the gym (through use of a key fob) but still let their billing company charge me and provided no help in resolving the matter.

Andreas 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great place, nice people, Low price

Dave Harvat 8 years ago

Negative experience: The most basic fitness facility there could be. 1 drinking fountain which barely works, outdated weight machines and treadmills. Billing is handled off site by a third party and is less than helpful to accomplish simple requests. "Maintenance fee" charged even AFTER you leave, for the previous six months. Hope that helps..

David Spangler 8 years ago

Positive experience: I like this gym, it's super close to home and has the equipment I like to use (weight lifting). The other folks in the gym seem to be really nice as well, there's some trainers that are always there but they are super-friendly and helpful. I would add a star if there was a better bathroom (there's no locker room or showers).

Stephanie Townsend 8 years ago

Negative experience: I would not give a star if I can I have been trying to renew my membership and has been speaking with several employees NIGHT is one Lynn is the other one I have left over 10 messages for Lynn the manager who has never returned my call my first experience with this gym was sometime I would be the only one in there and I had some concerns I was told not to worry because everyone comes in have a key card The customer service there is terrible but the gym is self is convenient and has plenty of work out equipment where you don't have to wait not sure is it because of the new membership or what but the employees are not helpful

Martín Zimmerman 9 years ago

Negative experience: Very dishonest business practices

Erik Adamiec 9 years ago

Negative experience: Read Joe Cohen's experience, mine is the same. Affiliated is the absolute worst company and the fact that EF uses them is harmful to their business. They kept giving me a run-around on what I needed to submit in order to cancel my membership (I relocated to Florida and it is illegal for them to charge a contract cancellation in this case). So they ended up receiving an extra month of gym membership out of me. Well congrats EF, that extra month just cost you a 1-star rating on every review site I can think of. Skip this gym and the hassle that comes with dealing with Affiliated. There are waaaay better gyms within short driving distance (LA Fitness, XSport, Etc).

Joe Cohen 10 years ago

Negative experience: This gym uses a third party (debt collection &) billing agency out of a southern US state. Anytime you ask for service at the gym, they tell you to call the debt collection hotline. The hotline has poor customer service and does not respond to emails. I cancelled my service and requested a confirmation email. The email never came, but i was told $30 would be charged to my bank acount for not turning in my key fob in 24hrs. Working with the debt collection company is an awful experience. Save your hard earned money. Work out else where. Google the debt company Affiliated Acceptance Coorperation for horror stories.

Julia Buchwald 10 years ago

Negative experience: I went to join this club and they tried to get me to sign up with a debt collection company. Thank god my brother is a lawyer and told me not to sign up. I can't believe a gym would try to trick people this way.

SLS Miller 10 years ago

Negative experience: I have no idea how this place has an average of 4 stars. Due to limited, affordable options for a gym in Oak Park my fiancé and I reluctantly joined EF Body Works and soon regretted it. When we were joining, we asked many questions about the different membership options and the "free classes" that were included. We really didn't get a straight answer and after joining realized that there were little to no classes and the ones that were offered were at odd times making it almost impossible to attend. There are "manned" and "unmanned" hours and you have to fob in when you go, whether there is an employee working there or not and the gym closes early on and around holidays even though they could just make the gym "unmanned" so that people that still want to work out on a holiday can. The guy at the desk, seems to be on a power trip and is unprofessional. He trains people while he is working the desk and he says things that are not appropriate that made me, as a female, uncomfortable and eventually did not want to go there because of it, even if my fiancé was with me. There are no locker rooms, no drinking fountains and there are always machines that are broken. Oh, yeah, you have to take your shoes off and change them before entering if it is raining or snowing outside and since there is no locker room, you have to sit on the floor to do it and there are shoes piled up all over the entrance area. Bottom line is you get what you pay for I guess. I would not recommend joining this gym, especially if you are female.

Anthony Morelli 11 years ago

Negative experience: If you are considering joining this gym, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. I joined and I deeply regret it. 1. Affiliated Acceptance Corporation collects their dues directly from your checking account. 2. AAC is a debt collections agency. According to the manager, AAC can enforce & keep 100% of any fines or penalties a member incurs and EF Bodyworks cannot stop them. So if you incur a penalty you feel is unjustified, too late; you are already in collections for it and your credit may be affected – that’s right, take it up with the debt collectors who are incentivized to rip you off. In my case, an unknown woman grabbed the door as I was leaving before the door could close & lock behind me. There was nothing, short of battery, I could do to stop her. Of course, I would never put my hands on a woman and had to end my membership; if the same thing happened the next day I could do nothing differently. Within two (2) hours I received an email stating I was being fined $175. I was able to put a “stop payment” at my bank; I am thankful to Chase for waiving the $30 stop payment fee. The collections agency, AAC, is adding interest & late fees to the $175, now up to $190. I will have to take this to the bitter end. My bank suggested I call the local police, which I did. The police can do nothing. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, this week. The staff at EFB has been non-responsive to my emails and when I get them on the phone, they cannot help because ‘I signed the contract’ authorizing them to treat me this way. I suspect EF Bodyworks will go out of business with Charter Fitness opening nearby soon. Sadly, I also suspect every member will get to know AAC before they say goodbye to EF Bodyworks.
