Our comment from FitFit United States about Athletic Club of Bend:
The Athletic Club of Bend offers a variety of amenities for fitness enthusiasts and families alike. While some users have noted that the facility shows signs of aging, with outdated equipment and cleanliness issues, many members still appreciate the strong sense of community and the range of activities available.
Highlights include:
- Diverse fitness options such as swimming, tennis, and group classes.
- Welcoming and friendly staff that create a positive atmosphere.
- A well-loved indoor and outdoor pool for families, especially during the summer months.
- Indoor tennis courts, a running track, and weightlifting facilities.
- Clean locker rooms and changing areas.
On the downside, several users have expressed concerns about the high membership fees and additional charges, coupled with limited day pass options. Some members wish for better organization of gym equipment and improved facilities, particularly for weightlifting.
Despite these critiques, the club remains a popular choice in Bend, offering ample opportunities for athletic activities and community engagement.
Athletic Club of Bend: Opinions
Positive experience: Old facility, but no competition so its the only option for the amenities. Held together with band-aid fixes. The outdoor pool and detached building with the weights and basketball court is nice. Everything else (i.e. locker rooms, showers, indoor pool, equipment) is slooowwllyyy dying. I have to believe they are just waiting for a buyer to demo and rebuild.
Negative experience: Me and my friend pay almost $140 a month on top of the insane $300 initiation fee. The insane membership fees for an old facility that never clean their courts is outrageous, on top of this there is an elderly male employee that constantly harasses us. Most recently over a basketball that we didn’t put away that wasn’t ours, yelling at us and embarrassing us in front of another employee. He singles us out as we are young adults and doesn’t concern himself with the teenagers. This is after we paid an unbelievable $30 for 2 friends to come with us. It’s seriously impressive this individual hasn’t been given some sort of disciplinary action or terminated entirely. It’s a shame there’s no other place like this in Bend, an establishment charging these rates should respect their members. Take your business elsewhere.
Negative experience: Took the tour, really run down. Wanted to try one day working out while our toddler tried kids club. Not an option bc "they're a private club" . No day passes. Only option is to pay $300 initiation fee + $200/m (no tennis option). You need to base that commitment off a tour that only shows how rundown the place is!? If our kiddo would have enjoyed day care even one time we would have paid the $200/m for a couple, or better yet, $50 for the occasional Saturday where we want to workout together with toddler in day care. This place should really lean into its unique offerings (weekend day care) and allow for day passes. The tour, as other reviews highlight, only lets one see how run down things are, but not test to see if the experience offered can overcome the initial impression. It's a bummer. Bend really needs a Lifetime Fitness or newer all inclusive family option with drop in child care on weekends, guest passes, etc. As soon as one opens up, this place is in trouble. Juniper and Larksburg are fantastic, but no weekend drop in child care. As an example, another fam of 3 with toddler signed up for monthly, so $500 commitment, first time they worked out as a couple, dropping kiddo off, kid gets bit in daycare, now they are paying $200 but not comfortable with childcare yet, so working out one at a time, just like we do at Larksburg for half the price in a much nicer facility. Kid bites happen, but $500 is too much a commitment to try out a facility.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place. The front staff are so welcoming. Fitness classes are challenging at any level. Great people and clean safe environment.
Fantastic experience: The Athletic Club provides it members with so many opportunities from swimming, tennis, group fitness, workout and weight rooms, clean changing areas and on and on and on. Been members for years and can't imagine going anywhere else. Staff is also exceptionally welcoming and helpful. Kip is amazing. Make an appointment to visit. You'll find so many things you will like.
Fantastic experience: Mike is the homie
Positive experience: Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, but my only issue is some days I come to workout and the women’s private gym is fully stocked (meaning the one treadmill is taken) and when that happens I have to look in the public area where the treadmills are organized horribly…. As a woman especially I find it hard to have the rows of treadmill where the back treadmills get a full view of your backside while you are putting work in…. (Reasons why the women’s private gym is lovely besides there being only one treadmill) not only that but the minimal amount of treadmills is crazy. Catch the gym on a medium busy day and sorry but the 7 treadmills that are your only options are all taken and even if one opens in the rows where everyone can see u do your thing it’s UNCOMFY! I’m sweating from more than just the workout I can feel old men eyes on me…. Organization would be ideal…. And maybe some more treadmills in the private women’s room.. just suggestions. I love the place and the kindness just upsetting to pay a lot of money and go at a time that shouldn’t be busy and u have to turn around to go home because u are unable to access a common machine.
Negative experience: Place could be nice but has a very weird dirty smell and there is dirt and dust everywhere even on some walls for the price of a membership you guys need to get that place clean
Positive experience: Our family joined the Athletic Club to take advantage of the pool during the Summer (crowded but not as crowded as some of the local public pools & lessons are easier to get into). Outside of a seasonal Summer membership, I would not choose to spend my $$ here. The gym is very outdated, limited selection of (old) cardio equipment and exposed wire throughout the facility. 10 years ago I can see paying top dollar to be a member, but as it stands, the current membership fees seem to far exceed what you actually get.
Fantastic experience: Great athletic and tennis club. Good people ..lots to do!
Positive experience: Nice facilities, needs some pickleball courts.
Fantastic experience: While I consider the ability to travel a great blessing, I have to admit that certain complications typically ensue from being away from home. One of those challenges can be how to continue your workout routine when on the road. While I don’t have specific recommendations for how to alleviate this situation in all cities, I can certainly provide some assistance when it comes to Bend, Oregon. The Athletic Club of Bend offers numerous opportunities for you to get that workout in when you’re in town for a visit. Their amenities include 7 indoor tennis courts, an indoor running track, indoor and outdoor pools, a large spa, cardio equipment, weight room, a full basketball court, and 4 racquetball/squash courts. While those amenities don’t necessarily make this place unique, there are two characteristics that do set this place apart. First, they openly accept visitors to the club. Many clubs are very closed minded about this, but not so here. Sure, you’ll have to pay a guest fee, but it was very reasonable. Second, I found the members here to be genuinely welcoming. I chose to utilize the club for some tennis and I felt immediately accepted by a group of members who have a standing weekly match. After just 2 hours together I felt like a part of the group and left with names and phone numbers for the next time that I visit Bend. Sure, you can come up with an excuse to not workout while in Bend, but that excuse can’t be that there’s no facilities that you have access to or there are no friendly people here to connect with. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #bendexcercise #bendtennis #bendgym
Fantastic experience: Good to go shoot hoops
Positive experience: Great gym. Lots of equipment, classes, and sports activities. Wish it closed just a little later.
Positive experience: So much potential if they would just invest a little money towards paint and a new logo. Reopen the juice bar would go a long way. Tennis community is strong!
Negative experience: My money from my prepaid membership ran out during covid and I couldn't even get an appointment when I wanted to go, so I didn't renew my membership after paying for 2 years. Now that I want to rejoin they want another initiation fee of nearly $325. Way to treat your community teachers. I cannot believe how impersonal this company is and the lack of respect they show towards hard working individuals that contribute to society. FYI I know there are people who have not paid this extortion fee after already paying it.
Fantastic experience: Incredible club with a friendly staff! Such a fun time!
Fantastic experience: Great concert venue.
Positive experience: Decent club, kind of older facilities. A little overpriced, but hey, it's the west side of Bend..
Fantastic experience: Good food, awesome vibe & amazing all around facility. Love this place!
Positive experience: Been a club member since 98. Not as fancy as some chain clubs, but its very Bend. I have taken loads of yoga classes here All of the teachers are awesome. I love the indoor running track, the indoor and outdoor pools and the location surrounded by running trails. For parents, ACB has excellent child care options. The restaurant is gone for the time being thanks to COVID, and I hope they bring it back. I really really miss the restaurant. It used to be the go to for my family on busy weeknights. We would make sure to all wind up at the club around dinner time
Fantastic experience: Nice facility, nice amenities
Fantastic experience: One of the greatest outdoor venues I have ever attended. I drove 200 miles to attend the Lindsey Sterling concert. It was amazing! What a great show and a great place to see her perform!
Fantastic experience: We visited for our first time this weekend to see Lindsay Sterling, I got tickets for my husband's 40th Birthday ♥ it was a great show an so much fun! Lindsay is amazing!
Fantastic experience: Great concert venue!
Fantastic experience: Went there to see LeeAnn Rimes. I had never been there before. Overall a great experience.
Fantastic experience: We saw Leanne Rimes here it is a smaller intimate venue with great seats where ever you are!
Negative experience: Thankfully I only did a month membership but I came for the classes since it is $150 a month & I figured it would be less than other places. I was going to wait until this membership was over but I hope to warn others. The classes are fine when they actually happen. I signed up for a month membership and over 6 classes have been canceled since the 2 weeks I have been here. The rest of the gym is mediocre at best. The facilities are small and other gyms do the same or better for a fraction of the cost. Do not seek out a membership. It would be less to just buy weights and be at home. It would be the same experience! The pilates class, cycling, and yoga pilates instructors are amazing but classes are inconsistent.
Positive experience: So far so good rating might go up giving them a good shot
Negative experience: As a current member of this gym I can honestly say that they are the biggest rip-off in town I honestly would have never joined this gym knowing all the scams they have to charge you extra money you can't even leave this gym without them charging you money you also have to give it in a 30 day advance notice things they don't tell you that are in the fine print absolutely do not go here not worth the ridiculous amount of money I pay for a couples membership $170 a month plus a $375 fee absolute b*******
Fantastic experience: One of the best facilities around!
Positive experience: Giid things to do, but the building needs to be fixed up.
Fantastic experience: This place is so awesome. If you are debating a membership, it's totally worth it
Positive experience: My review will based on what I deem important for my gym search, basketball, weightlifting and overall atmosphere. Basketball: probably the best place in Bend to play basketball with an excellent NBA size court that is well maintained and pickup games every M, T and Friday. If all you are looking for is basketball then this is your place (for a high cost). Weightlifting: Pretty terrible! The equipment is old and worn. The equipment is also split up in two separate buildings which makes it really annoying and inconvenient to get a complete session in. There are far better options in Bend. Overall atmosphere: The club population is mainly an older crowd and lacks those serious about weightlifting. It’s better suit for seniors who are looking to stay active and socialize. Masks are also mandatory and they make sure you don’t forget with almost weekly emails…
Positive experience: I came here to shoot hoops a few times, and the basketball experience is poor, definitely inferior to the small community rec center where I normally play back home. All the balls here are worn and slippery, the hardwood is scuffed and in need of resurfacing, and the net I played on was greyed and torn. As far as the hoops go, this place is workable but not much more than that.

Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism Me and my wife attended a yoga class here before the Pandemic. They have the quality instructors
Fantastic experience: Going to return for more shows!
Negative experience: the owners stopped caring a long time ago
Fantastic experience: Going to return for more shows!
Fantastic experience: This is an amazing venue to catch a concert. The layout is really perfect. It's almost a natural amphitheater. With tall shade trees in the summer, the venue is well taken care of. And they had a very nice selection of food trucks etc.
Positive experience: Great facility, has just about anything you need for a full workout and restore. Wish they were open later.
Positive experience: seein michael franti play at clear summer nights
Negative experience: WORST PLACE EVER if you're ADA. 1st of all, I'm a fully disabled combat veteran. I have blown out knees that make walking hard, let alone standing. When I arrived the staff showed my wife and I the "ADA Sitting Area" which was chairs placed against the wall along the walk-through area between us and the "view of the stage", meaning people were constantly walking in front of you where you couldn't watch the show AT ALL from a seated position. We told the staff about this problem and they said they were going to work on it. After 20min of waiting with no response, the ADA group and I moved our chairs to the other side of the walkway so that people were not walking behind us instead of in front of us. This was a temporary fix. As soon as the main act came on stage, everybody stood up for the whole show. As you'll see in my pictures, my view was of everyone's backs. I could've had a better (and MUCH cheaper) time listening to the artist at home on my headphones. I understand that ADA isn't exactly the biggest money draw for the club, but to say that we ADA is even a priority for them is a HUGE understatement. I personally will NEVER be going back to that establishment. Waste of money, time, and total disrespect of their Veteran and ADA community. SHAME ON YOU, ACB
Positive experience: Great concert venue for Clear Summer Nights shows. Good selection of food and beverage carts and very nice grounds.
Negative experience: Very disappointed that The ACB is not requiring verification of vaccines for the Chicago concert on the 31st. These events have shown to be super spreaders and for the club to not seem to care about their patrons health is disturbing. In lieu of that, refunds should be offered for those who are not comfortable with the close proximity to those unvaccinated.
Fantastic experience: Love being a member here! It’s locale is perfect for our family and I love all the pools.
Fantastic experience: So many great classes to take. The trainers and staff here really do a great job. I've honestly never been in such great shape. There is classes for every interest and level. I also really enjoy the staff and people I get to interact with....I have abs!
Fantastic experience: Always friendly and clean! Amazing place to get in a good workout!
Fantastic experience: They have everything. Clases too.
Fantastic experience: Attended a yoga class here while on vacation and really enjoyed it. The instructor was very knowledgeable. Smoothies were great too!
Fantastic experience: One of the best venues in Bend. Outside like Les Schwab but cozier. Sound and lights were professional and the process getting in was streamlined. Always full of great people and the selection of food and beer is great.
Fantastic experience: Clean, lots of classes, good amenities and equipment, reasonable pricing, good staff.
Fantastic experience: We went to the Kris Krstoffersen concert tonight. What a great job the Athletic Club does at space usage, parking, crowd control and all in all a very great experience. very intimate and comfortable.
Fantastic experience: Great facility!
Fantastic experience: Fun place and sooo many activities available here great for a family
Fantastic experience: An excellent athletic club with an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis, raquetball, weights, hot tub, bikes and lots of classes - yoga, pilates, etc. Very good restaurant and bar Bistro 28 attached.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facility, great onsite restaurant and concert venue
Fantastic experience: This is the most top-of-the-line center i have ever visited. They have every possible thing you could think of. fabulous pools & hot tub, towels everywhere. Shampoos, conditioners, body wash, deodorant, hair spray all provided. Nice cafe, beautiful resaurant. Outdoor trails. Its incredible!
Fantastic experience: Best place to workout that is family friendly in Bend area.
Fantastic experience: Great place to see a concert.
Fantastic experience: Great workers
Fantastic experience: Best gym in town!
Fantastic experience: Gym
Positive experience: Just go fir concerts which are always great. Nice that they finally changed entrance so everyone doesn't have to go through lobby. No if they can get some hanging lights over the back area so you can see in the dark, a safety issue
Negative experience: I do enjoy the small, intimate concerts the Athletic Club host, however, there needs to be a size restriction on the blankets that are allowed. I recently attended the Lord Huron concert and was disgusted to see full size, unzipped sleeping bags and other huge blankets with just 2 people occupying the space. There was absolutely nowhere to lay claim to a space with these unnecessarily big blankets hogging all the real estate. I found it very inconsiderate.
Positive experience: Racquetball is.my jam. Tennis and a geat indoor pool. Weight facilities could be updated though.
Positive experience: Good. Dated. Food is great in restaurant but a bit too expensive. Big
Positive experience: Really great place for all types of athletic people
Fantastic experience: Good music venue. Who would have guessed.
Fantastic experience: Awesome food. Definitely recommend for dinner
Fantastic experience: Great venue for live concerts
Fantastic experience: Has everything one hopes for in an Athletic Club and more.
Fantastic experience: Big gym with great pick up basketball games
Fantastic experience: Very nice concert venue!
Fantastic experience: Great place for a lot of athletic activities.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in town.
Fantastic experience: Very nice club. Varied amenities. Great massage therapists.
Fantastic experience: Thank you for letting us use your land for the MBSEF Thrilla Cyclocross Series.
Fantastic experience: I'd buy if I had that kind of money!
Fantastic experience: Wide variety of sports are served in this reasonably priced place facility with loads of classes included on the fee.
Fantastic experience: Where to even start. The Club is great; Clean and perfect like you would expect. The thing to know is the restaurant Bistro 28 and the night time concerts! You do not have to be a member and they do NOT disappoint.
Positive experience: I love this gym, but I feel like they could male so many improvements for those that use their gym equiptment. The fitness rooms are pretty small and crowded, and the prices are so high. I also wish they would allow you to bring guests for a fee that wasn't so high. I haven't been able to convince anyone to join me for a workout there, because the guest price was too high for them. Other than that, I do love the pools and all the classes and childcare they offer!
Positive experience: Great concert venue
Positive experience: It was a great club when it opened in the 90's but its showing its age. The restaurant is nice and worth a visit. I saw a concert there s few years ago and had a blast. Toad and the Wet Sprocket I think. I appreciate their hosting of the Thrilla series and for the finish of the High Cascades 100.
Positive experience: Nice venue for concerts.
Negative experience: Way to expensive!!!
Negative experience: Bistro 28 has terrific food and service. I highly recommend the trout spread
Positive experience: Wonderful staff at an athletic club with plenty of options. Not the most modern, but they did have to deal with quite a bit of damage from last year's snow storm.
Fantastic experience: Don't know much about it i just went here for a concert
Fantastic experience: The gym is spacious with lots of natural light. There's plenty of open equipment each time I got in, which is a huge plus. The gym could use a few upgrades, but it's worth checking out.
Fantastic experience: Awesome club! Tennis courts, pool, steam room and much more! Nicest club in Bend!
Fantastic experience: Went here during our last few family vacations. What a great facility! Indoor pools are clean. The classes are not too crowded but had terrific instructors. Staff is helpful. And my kids love the sandwiches at the deli. All around, great place!
Fantastic experience: Excellent classes--there are such a variety of group fitness classes. Every yoga class I've attended has had outstanding teachers and they have lots of extra equipment for you (blankets, bolsters, blocks, mats). Locker rooms are always clean and the steam room/saunas are a huge plus. Lifeguards on duty are attentive and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Been a member here for 8 years. All facilities are top shelf. 7 excellent indoor tennis courts was my primary draw; however athletic options abound. Indoor spa, steam room and sauna all offer wonderful post workout routine. When all is done, fine dining is available on premise. Memberships are quite reasonable, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in bend
Positive experience: Great place to hang out and get fit. So many choices!!!
Fantastic experience: Went here during our last few family vacations. What a great facility! Indoor pools are clean. The classes are not too crowded but had terrific instructors. Staff is helpful. And my kids love the sandwiches at the deli. All around, great place!
Positive experience: Nice, quiet place to exercize. Staff could be a bit friendlier though. Pricy as well
Negative experience: Nor enough equipment to accommodate clientele. Good equipment though and locker rooms are pretty clean.
