Downtown Belleville YMCA - Kern Center

Negative experience: I have been a Y member for 20+ years in multiple locations Nationwide. My first membership price was $17. For the last two and half years this price went from $29 to $40 that's around 30+% increment. There are members that only swim and use the sauna or steam room (like me). I don't understand why the pool and sauna (which BTW there is no steam room in this facility) has to close early, sometimes 2 hours earlier. Is quite frustrating that all the areas not follow the same operation hours. Hopefully someone will read this and do something about it.

Fantastic experience: Clean gym with everything you need.

Fantastic experience: We have been members of the Y off and on for many years. Sometimes it's busy and doesn't fit our schedule, but when it does, there is so much to offer! Downtown is clean, friendly staff, a variety of classes, a sauna, walking track, and a full range of equipment. My son loves the rock wall and pool and has started using the gym as well.

Positive experience: First time visiting this location. It was a nice family trip to the pool. Some of the lockers in the family locker room were older and partially rusted so they did not close completely and the pool seemed chillier than the O'Fallon Y. They do offer the standard orange toddler life vests and noodles plus some swim toys. All in all, it was a good Y visit.

Fantastic experience: A clean, safe place for anyone to feel welcome being active. An anchor in old downtown Belleville. This place does a great job of feeling like a community. Also, Abe Lincoln swam here (practically).

Positive experience: I think it's pretty dumb to only have the gym open from 12pm to 4 pm I will complain to the corporate office.

Fantastic experience: It is the best exercise place of our area. In fact, this place is clean, the workers are chill, and the seats are comfortable. The most important thing is that there is free Wi-Fi. The exercise treadmills also provide television… sometimes. Anyways, this place is awesome for having a healthy body.

Negative experience: Was a good place to go and be active. However, now the exercise equipment is typically broken or close to it. Cleanliness is lacking. The basketball court is only open for a few hours a week. Better off going to the East Y or a different gym.

Fantastic experience: Small but great fitness center. Wish the cardio and weight room were switched but you can make it work.

Fantastic experience: People are friendly and respectful. They keep the facilities clean and generally well maintained. There are a few maintenance items that need attention but that is expected. I would like the mask mandate to be enforced with the current health situation.

Positive experience: I love the amount of space this YMCA has. There are so many classes and options for me everyday so I never get bored. The locker room showers could use an update and some of the TVs aren’t connected to the treadmills.

Negative experience: Not wearing a mask just to take it off and use equipment people sweat and breath all over. Mask required in the common areas because in all the other areas the mask doesn't matter ? Canceled my account immediately. How does a mask protect you in the common areas but not in the gym, court, track or anywhere in the building thr mask isn't required

Negative experience: Called to the Y today to ask about pricing the lady that answered the phone was so rude it’s free to join for January but they pro rate it so it’s definitely not free they still will find away to get money outta you

Fantastic experience: My son (4yrs old) and I just transferred from Club Fitness where we were paying $20/mo. We pay more here ($70/mo for our entire household which allows me to add my boyfriend for no additional cost). I love the amenities here including the pool, sauna, and gym. My son loves the kids area and his new YMCA swimming instructors!

Fantastic experience: We just recently signed up again, and the front desk gentleman was extremely patient and answered all of my questions. Fantastic experience. I'm amazed how clean the YMCA is given all the people who use the facility daily.

Fantastic experience: Great staff! Plenty of options for exercise or just recreation. With 3 kids it's great to have peace of mind when we use the childcare services while my wife and I work out. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: We love this YMCA - all the employees are always friendly. And the childcare facility workers are always welcoming to my child. I feel confident leaving my child in their care. My family also enjoys the various programs offered. This is a great facility!

Fantastic experience: My daughter and I love going to that downtown Belleville YMCA! The staff there is very helpful, and she always has fun with the other kids in their child care service while I’m using the gym. Edith’s Saturday morning Zumba class is one of the best parties around! So much fun.

Fantastic experience: I don’t go like I should but my kids love it.They are super helpful and have a lot of things family can do.

Fantastic experience: The childcare here is amazing, they are so patient and kind with my teething baby and really make me feel like getting time to myself is important. There’s not much space to stretch out and do individual workouts, but they have lots of really good machines. Facility is clean and the rest of the staff is always smiling and greeting everybody with a smile and wishing you a great day as you leave, other branches out here don’t measure up to the downtown Belleville one.

Fantastic experience: I called the Dowtown Belleville YMCA to inquire if daily passes could be purchased, as I am an out-of-state visitor in the area for a few days. The lady that I spoke with was incredibly kind and informed me that I could use two passes at no charge. How awesome is that?! I went today for the step aerobics class and everyone I encountered--from Harriet at the front desk to the class instructor to the fellow class participants--was super-friendly and helpful. There was plenty of parking and the facility looked clean and well-maintained. Thanks, Downton Belleville YMCA for making my day! I will be back to try out another class with the second pass.

Fantastic experience: I have been working out at the down town belleville YMCA for over two years now. When I first moved into the area I looked at all the gyms in the area. The only one that resonated with me was the Down Town Belleville Y. I loved the people who work there. They are always welcoming and helpful. The people who work out at the gym are friendly as well! The variety of people who work out there made it a good fit for me... it is an environment I feel anyone would feel comfortable in. People of all walks of life and fitness goals come to the Y. One of my most memorable memories of the my YMCA family is when I was weeks away from donating a kidney to a dear friend of mine. Finances were an issue. I would be out of work for over a month. My mom and dad were coming up from California to take care of me. That also ment my mom and dad would be out of work as well. I spoke to Lenex about the issue and he helped me out. My family was able to use my membership and work out for that month at the YMCA with no extra charge to me. I love that my YMCA family supports me in times of need. When I was finally able to start exercising again it aas encouraging to hear "we missed you". Hearing those types of kind words helped me transition back to my routines and work on my recovery at the Y. Thank you Downtown Belleville YMCA!

Fantastic experience: Nice and friendly environment, excellent staff, very helpful. A place where you can work out, swim, relax, enjoy good company, good coffee and they have a daycare for the kiddos, I would definitely recommend the Y.

Negative experience: Red Bud location has 3 broken cardio pieces for over a month and operating hours are very poor. Downtown St. Louis location is very very clean!

Positive experience: Convenient location, friendly people offers more variety of classes from Yoga to Crossfit. The Y has something for everyone!

Positive experience: Love working out here! The childcare center is also wonderful. I do wish the TV's on the treadmills would work more often and that they would open up the large room next to the childcare center again so the older kids could play in there.

Negative experience: My children went here today with their Grandmother to go swimming. My teenage daughter was wearing jean shorts and a tube top that fully covered her from chest to her shorts (no cleavage or midriff showing). Your registration desk attendant felt that it was appropriate to stop them as they came in at the lobby and embarrass her about her outfit. Quote “This is the YMCA, you need to wear more clothes when you come in here.” She was still upset about it when I picked them up hours later. When did the YMCA start shaming children for showing their shoulders? I’m appalled that your staff is this rude and out of date with how to work with youth.

Negative experience: I've never been here, but good luck on contacting anyone or "leaving a message" all of the voice message boxes are full, and no matter which department you try to contact, it will send you through another loop. There was a man in there around 7-8pm on 10/19 having "diabetic seizures" he came into Balance Coffee & Tea afterwards, and after genuinely trying to help him, he stole our of tip jar and denied it profusely. I watched him on the camera and have footage. Watch out for this man. If you know of any of his personal details please inform the Belleville police and balance coffee and tea. I hate to give you guys a one star review, but this is the last place he was before committing the crime. Stay safe!

Positive experience: The staff are very friendly & helpful. I’m new to the Y and have been attending water aerobics class in the morning. My only complaint is I quit showering after class and weather permitting have been going home in my swim suit cover-up because the water is scalding hot & cannot be adjusted to be cooler. My 1st day I soaped up but couldn’t rinse off because I could not get it to a tolerable temp so I just go home to “dechlorinate” myself.

Positive experience: I like the gym and track but the workers are very rude and unhelpful

Negative experience: I quit not a nice place caters to people of high income brackets you go in there for free forget it they keep it nice and clean and cater to the very rich

Negative experience: I am gonna sue these y in the downtown since they was treat my two years old daughter in a bad way they was insulting her and infant her front of other kids my consider and upset about the childcare staff

Fantastic experience: Complete gym with very nice, new equipment. Everything is clean including the bathroom, showers, and locker area. The staff is very friendly and helpful, i would recommend this place to anyone and i do regularly.

Negative experience: Their pool is so cloudy you can't see the wall when you lap swim. I brought it to managements attention and nothing was done. Should be interesting to see if the condition of the pool stays the same after the maintenance
