Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center: Opinions

Negative experience: Students taking less than 12 credits (and GMU employees!) have to pay for entry now... As if we don't pay enough in campus fees to support facilities LIKE THE GYMS. What a slap in the face.
Positive experience: Pool not open in the afternoons.
Fantastic experience: Nous nous y sommes rendu pour la Prince William Turkey Trot où les installations font office de village.
Negative experience: I went to swim with my family, and when I looked up at the second level window I saw 2 workers pointing and laughing at my 53 year old father swimming. I almost went and told the person at the front desk but I doubt they would’ve cared. Haven’t been back since.
Negative experience: Closed during prime summer season. This information isn't easily found on the website. No long course availability after Labor Day
Negative experience: Most mornings the pool is not available, which is the entire reason I signed up for this gym. The hours are atrocious, 8 am opening on Saturday and 9 am opening on Sunday. Thankfully the strength room is usually empty (it seems others realize this gym is terrible too)
Negative experience: terminated gym membership because we got said membership for the pool… and yet members always had a hard time using the lanes…went multiple times just to show up and find out we couldn’t even swim because the lanes were completely full. Messed up our payments multiple times, and staff is very cold and unhelpful. Switched to manassas park community center and love it more already. Please save your money.
Negative experience: The time that put on their door is not correct. For example, on their door they mentioned that they are closing at10 pm on Friday, so I arrived there at 7:45 pm, and they said that they are closing, and I got confused. The way that the staff talked is like it is my fault.
Fantastic experience: Ball is life.
Negative experience: hours are horrendous
Fantastic experience: The best gym in the area. I have been to a couple of other places but this gym is by far the best because of the staff, cleanliness and equipment. Plus, it's not bas crowded as other gyms.
Positive experience: the hours suck and this place closes so early Fridays and the weekends. Leaks from the celling with trash cans under almost everywhere around the building. Broken gym equipment takes a while to fix and one of the equipment broke and they just tapped it then after a few months finally got a new one
Negative experience: Please read carefully. Pay a bit more and go to a better ran and organized fitness center. As soon as my son graduates college I will be terminate my contract after 5 years of using this facility. Poor managment, untrained staff and ignorant folks that use and visit this establishment due to its low cost has become unbearable. I wish that I wasn't so far away from the nearest military facility. Joining the new facility in Gainesville is more expensive, but worth the piece of mind.
Fantastic experience: I like it
Negative experience: Some of the staff and lifeguards are great. The masters swim and coaches are great. The big issue is the swimming pool doesn’t cater or prioritize its members. A lot of members like myself come later in the evening after work to get some laps in and there’s always either a swim meet or huge classes and training sessions going on for youth and their coaches. I’ve had to turn away too many times after wasting the time to get there. There were a few times I waited until 9:00pm with only a half hour left to swim but the youth programs take their sweet time to free a lane. Not to mention a whole section of the deeper end that could be used is closed off. Every day the pool is also closed off from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Their swimming pool is the reason I even have the membership and if there’s never any availability then I’m considering cancelling the membership. It’s just not worth it. It is not an accommodating facility. They need to figure something out if they’re having staffing issues.
Negative experience: Could be a world class facility. Greet weight training room, classes. The lockers and the locker room are antiquated, and the showers are usually cold to luke warm. Their water system needs a vast improvement.
Positive experience: Plenty of parking. Clean bathrooms. Reasonable fees for daily/monthly/yearly membership. Diversity of machines and cardio options is appealing. Indoor basketball courts and pools for swimming available. Front desk is generally responsive to broken machines or facility complaints. I wish the cleaning staff cleaned the dust better everywhere so we don't risk breathing it in.
Negative experience: As a newer member of the gym facilities I've been very much enjoying the actual interior of the place. It is very tidy and clean overall the staff that cleans up does a fantastic job with keeping it clean. However, one of the big disappointments for me is the staff themselves are disrespectful to the patrons. The management running the place just seem to be in disarray compared to the actual staff that puts in the work keeping the place running. When approaching the staff about issues they emit this toxic "bro culture" towards others around them. I don't think I will be returning to this gym as I don't feel its members are treated as they should be.
Fantastic experience: Nice
Positive experience: It was ok. I swam in the pool and it was not aesthetic. Maybe it should be less non aesthetic
Negative experience: Very bad customer service.
Positive experience: This place is great…until it’s not. They close randomly. Don’t even update the hours on maps. Not reliable if you have to check the website, call or go there to find out they are closed temporarily.
Thanks for the feedback! While it may seem random, our scheduled maintenance week is annual and around the same time each year. The information has been reflective on our website (which is always the best place to reference our operation hours). However, we will continue to work on ensuring our Google Maps hours are accurate as well. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you return soon.
Fantastic experience: Has everything you need to stay in shape
Fantastic experience: I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of this venue. The pools cater to all age groups with ample room, and the inclusion of a gym and basketball courts is impressive. The membership costs are quite reasonable considering the wide range of activities available for enjoyment.
Thanks so much for the great feedback! The Freedom Family appreciates the positive review and your visit. Hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place, everything is extremely clean and the facilities are amazing! I love all the different things you are able to do, everyone is very welcoming and it has a very positive and supportive atmosphere. I’m always extremely motivated to hit the gym because of this place 5/5
Appreciate the great feedback! Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience. Look forward to having you return soon!
Fantastic experience: I have been going to the Freedom Center since 2018. I love the group classes, the indoor pool, and indoor track. They also have a great weight room and cardio room. The facility is always clean and the staff is very welcoming. I feel like I am a part of the gym rather than just a membership.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding place to exercise and have fun!
Fantastic experience: I had to go to many different pools for swim and I have to say, Freedom is the best pool in VA. It’s cold, clean, and has depth variety. Basketball court is great but the gym (weightlifting) is a little small.
Fantastic experience: This place has it all!
Fantastic experience: Have been working out here since 2017. Has to be the best gym I’ve ever seen. Lots of excellent classes, energetic Instructors, and even after COVID-19. Sauna is roasting hot, and perfect to relax in. Wading pool good temperature. Could be used as a real life Globogym.
Fantastic experience: awesome for USA swim meets
Negative experience: Nice place, great for GMU students. Not so sure about the safety of the swimming pool water + drinking water. The whole place reeks of chemicals and bleach.. the drinking water even tastes like the pool water
Positive experience: It's a big facility. You get a gym, basketball court, swimming pool, big changing rooms, saunas and a jacuzzi and a physiotherapist. But here's why I can't give the facility 5 stars. Too many knobheads at the pool. Taking up the lanes and not even swimming. I know what they do is a form of exercise but like come on, use the big area beside the lanes and let people swim like. They also be complaining about getting a tiny splash of water on their faces like. Next big downside is the showers. There's no cold showers. They're all very hot showers. Should invest in those cold showers. Apart from that, it's a decent place with a decent price for memberships.
Negative experience: The water is so bad for swimming they put lot of chemical and the oxygen level is so low
Fantastic experience: Kk3km
Fantastic experience: Very clean place
Positive experience: The pool is set to 70 and is cold!
Fantastic experience: I have been coming to the Freedom Center since 2018 when I was a Mason student. (GMU students and staff are eligible for a free membership) I learned to swim here with the help of a swim class they offered for adults. I love to use especially the cardio room, which is separate from the weight room, which I love, and I love to swim in the pool. The pool is usually pretty empty when I am there (usually mid morning early afternoon on weekdays). The classes are great, there is usually always space to stretch in the hallway that is semi-private. As an introvert, I appreciate this during my exercise. If you don't like children though, (or are just a "Karen"), maybe find another gym because the freedom center will have summer camps, swim meets, and other community programs with kids.
Negative experience: Terrible hours. 8-6pm, really? Almost got a membership here but decided not to after seeing the operating hours
The pandemic brought several changes to the businesses in the area. We are working on building back to the standard operation that we had prior to the pandemic. Yes, currently, our hours on Saturdays are 8:00am-6:00pm due to research of our member's visit history. We would love to have you join the #FreedomFamily and utilize the Monday-Friday hours that are more robust. Monday-Thursday 5:00am-10:00pm and Friday, 5:00am-8:00pm. Feel free to email us with any questions. [email protected]
Fantastic experience: The gym is small but it’s so laid back and I’ve had no issues with anybody. Everybody seems cool. The benches are super nice too
Awesome!! Glad to hear your experience has been positive and our crew gives off a "cool" vibe! We hope to see you back at FAFC soon!
Fantastic experience: Amazing place and clean and friendly stuff. I am coming back
Positive experience: We visited the leisure pool here because our usual pool was closed. I couldn't find the price on the website, so I'll mention it here: $10 for me and $7 for each of the kids. That's really too pricey for me to come often. However, we did have a very good time. The pool has a zero-entry end, a waterslide, and a whirlpool area that spins the kids around. They had a blast with that last one. Check the website to see when the leisure pool is open if you want to swim there; it's apparently closed a lot and was only open from 2:30 to 4 the day we went.
Fantastic experience: The fitness trainer Alyssa and life gaurd hunter was very helpful they answered all.thw questions I had. Kudos.
Awesome!! Glad to hear. We hope to see you back at FAFC soon!
Fantastic experience: Best place to bring fitness in the family. They have something innovative & interactive for everyone!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to Freedom center almost twenty years. Excellent place to workout, I like to welcome our new instructor. Her name is Zeyneb She is extremely knowledgeable and professional. I’ve been taking her yoga and Zumba classes. She is amazing. Welcome to the board Zeyneb

Fantastic experience: Clean and COVID compliant. Friendly people. Responsive to members. Beautiful facility. A value for your dollar.

Fantastic experience: Best place to bring fitness in the family. They have something innovative & interactive for everyone!
Fantastic experience: My family and I love this facility. The new LED lighting in the pool area is wonderful. Its so much brighter and I feel more energetic as I am swimming. I also love the increased water temperature in the leisure pool. I appreciate that a great deal. I also love the instructors at this facility. They are knowlegable and professional as they work to prepare swimmers with the life saving skills they need in and around the water. My family and I will continue to come to Freedom Center for lessons and classes. I am a huge fan of the variety of programs Freedom Center offers its members and the public.
Positive experience: The pools are excellent. The locker rooms are clean enough. I love the adult swim teams. The lifeguards are usually not watching pool and sometimes asleep.
Fantastic experience: I am SO grateful to have a found a place that pleases me. I couldn't find the place to swim sometimes, their fitness center is normal. However, their pool was outstanding. The locker rooms are clean and big capacity. I and my girlfriend love to go and have fun.
Positive experience: Great
Negative experience: Cancelled family membership within month, experienced racial profiling here. Visited the weight room with my two teenage boys, gentleman in the front confronted us by asking us they can't come in. I stated they already took the certificatation class and they where of age. Funny part is he admitted he got a call on his radio about us. How would he of known it was us out of all people visiting the facility? Spoke to staff and also confirmed the are not able to speak spanish. Seems like all the reviews on here seem to be from minorities. From the one asking for water for his car to the one who wanted water to drink. Will not recommend and have shared this experience to my fellow family members and friends.
Negative experience: If you are an adult and want to swim, find another venue, this place is only geared for kids. At any given day, there are 5 or 6 lifeguards on duty working from 20-25 minutes per hour. They open only 1/2 of the pool. The lifeguard stations are perched above only the shallowest parts of the pool (where the kids are) Cant see the rest of the pool is always the response, yet at any time there are 3-4 lifeguards in the shack goofing off. Most adult swimmers complain about pool availability to the extent, they stop trying to use it at all. The workout, track, aerobic and other programs are very nice. The weight room requires wipedowns by patrons. Machines are never sweaty and nasty like some older gyms like golds or LA fitness.
Positive experience: It is a very good place to go to all the time but it costs a little bit of money
Fantastic experience: Just moved to Manassas and this is by far the best gym facility I've seen in a while. I may be biased because of the large indoor pool. Definitely the biggest I've seen from all the other gyms in the area. They have a jacuzzi, slide, dry sauna in the women's locker room possibly the men's locker room as well. An array of group fitness classes, kid-care, preschool, summer camps, etc. The strength training room may be small for some but it is still a nice size. Indoor walk/running track, plethora of racquet ball rooms, basketball courts. Memberships are well priced and open to the community even though it is a University facility. Customer service seems to be run by some GMU students but I haven't had any issues as yet other than confusion on the type of swim lessons that are offered and when they are being offered.
Positive experience: Good place for all age groups. They offer classes for all ages. I love the gym and , swimming.
Fantastic experience: The best
Positive experience: A great place to go and workout or play games. I play volleyball here often but the price is a little crazy.
Negative experience: So they close for 1 week and they still charging the same full montly payment!!
Positive experience: This is inflated as the rating should be a 2 or 2.5. Staff is typically friendly so a three is a nod to them. The workout experience continues to decline each visit (3-5 times/week). Water in water fountains is lukewarm at best. Not refreshing during hard workouts or the summer months. Instructors during offered classes are overly disruptive. You can hear them shouting instructions at extremely high decibels throughout the gym. Bullhorn loud. Disruptive for anyone trying to conduct their workout not in the class. Why so loud? Is there data that shows there's an impact on fitness levels? Drill sergeant days have passed. Locker rooms are barely air conditioned if at all. Almost sauna like. Again a challenge after a workout, shower, etc. and you have to return to the office. Management would do well to take a look at some of these issues.
Positive experience: Even on memorial day it was busy, even though this was a good pool, the kiddie pool was basically mostly pee.
Positive experience: Nice basketball courts and indoor track, the bathrooms could use some work however.
Negative experience: I’ve been coming here for 8 years, and while the facilities are nice, they do not appreciate their members... during swim meets. This morning I spent 10 minutes trying to park (during a swim meet), until I finally followed the signs to the satellite lot for “swim team parking,” which turned out to be mostly empty (and a 3-5 min walk to the entrance - see picture). This is not the first time this has happened. They do not bother to staff the lots with attendants pointing swim team families to the correct parking locations, nor even post signs saying not to park in the main lot. After missing the class I was going to attend, I decided to go talk to a manager and ask why they couldn’t save parking for members. Craig, the manager on duty, told me that they only put staff out in the lots before the facility opens to direct traffic, but not after that when classes are running and members would arrive. That seems lazy and stupid - clearly the parking lot is not filled with all members’ vehicles. Furthermore, he told me it was not his problem - it was a facilities problem, and he would (ho hum) mention it to the facilities manager. I have never encountered a manager so disenchanted with his job, basically passing the buck and not even trying to be apologetic (much less helpful). Furthermore, if you ever do park and get in during a meet, don’t bother with the locker rooms. They will be jammed full of kids, even in the “adults only section.” They cancel classes and there’s even no use of much of the facility (the multi purpose room is also overrun). I understand they need to support swim meets, but I’m frankly tired of this place selling out their regular paying customers for them. We basically get an email notification warning us that it will be a problem to come there. (Thanks for taking my money anyway.) They need to staff and manage these meets better, including hiring a manager that actually cares about customer service and his job.
Negative experience: I enrolled my son in a swimming classes and they with out notice cancelled. I didn't received any phone call, email or text message about this. I was with my son at time for the classes and no one give me a reason for the cancellation. I called today and the guy on the phone give me the phone number of the person in charge (josh). I called him. I left a message, but Im still waiting. at least a email!!. I want my money back!
Fantastic experience: Me and my siblings did summer camps there. they have a perfect balance of everything a child/young adult could want. along with having groups for a specific catergory. i truely love the freedom center!
Fantastic experience: This place is so big, they offer a variety of activities and stuffs to do, always very clean, the employees are very friendly and are always there if you need them, excellent place..
Fantastic experience: I've been a member since I was a kid, and I absolutely love going. It's a great place to swim, great place to exercise, and the facility is always clean.
Fantastic experience: It's lit at the freedom center
Positive experience: The pools are really nice. The only problem is that the diving boards are NEVER open whenever I go. On the website it says that the diving board hours are on weekends from 1-4, but when I go at those times they aren't open even when I check for other things going on at the same time and nothing is.
Fantastic experience: The programs offered at this center is amazing. They have dance class, HIIT and even Spinning sessions at certain times of the week.
Negative experience: I just wanted some water to use for my car, nothing!
Negative experience: This is not a rant- more of a warning! In May I signed My kid up for preschool at the freedom center. I was told he needed to be potty trained to be in the class. I would pay $75 for holding his spot and that money would NOT be refunded if we wasn't ready by September. At orientation the teacher said the kids needed to be "independently" potty trained.(Go in/out of bathroom- pull up/down pants, wipe their own butt/ flush toilet etc. all on their own) Z was not to that level yet- so I decided to withdraw him from the class(at orientation) They charge you a month before for the class. August I was charge $250(tuition/school supplies) Sept $170(tuition) =$420 - not including the $75 The "principle/director" told me that ALL my money wouldn't be refunded I went crazy- you can imagine- I ONLY signed-agreed to $75 not to be refunded Make a LONG story short- I ended up calling my bank and filling a claim. I WILL get my $420 back and warn everyone I talk to- to NOT take their kids to the freedom center!! Absolute FRAUDS!!!
Fantastic experience: Me and my siblings did summer camps there. they have a perfect balance of everything a child/young adult could want. along with having groups for a specific catergory. i truely love the freedom center!
Positive experience: Nice modern facility, but air in pool was very poor.
Negative experience: I went to run on the trail outside but forgot to bring a water bottle. I went inside to ask if I could use the water fountain, but the front desk attendant, Frank, refused. I understand that it is the front desk's job to maintain the facility gate, but it was late on Sunday evening and there were very few patrons at the facility at the time. At the very least, as a facility dedicated to health and fitness, you would think that the workers there would try to be as accommodating as possible for a simple request as water for someone trying to exercise.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member since I was a kid, and I absolutely love going. It's a great place to swim, great place to exercise, and the facility is always clean.
Fantastic experience: im going there rn love playing basketball there
Fantastic experience: Nice facility, clean and looking good. I like gym and pool in particular. Also a great place for different kids classes and activities.
Fantastic experience: I like swimming lessons there
Fantastic experience: Nice facility, clean and looking good. I like gym and pool in particular. Also a great place for different kids classes and activities.
Positive experience: great clean place, but however they are not very good at answering the phone
Positive experience: The facility is nice, clean.
Positive experience: Camps are fun and my kids enjoy them.
Positive experience: My daughter takes basketball and swim classes here. Always a great time with good people. Staff is friendly.
Negative experience: My wife and I frequent the gym several times a week to work out and go to exercise classes. Today, a new employee at the front desk, John, verbally abused my wife to the point we had to get his supervisor called and brought to the front desk. He obviously has anger management issues and needs customer service skills.
Positive experience: Not a member, but I love going here to swim and the ladies locker room is always clean.
