Positive experience: Nice gym, pretty good atmosphere, having a pool is a great plus. I think the sign-up procedure, payments and other administrative issues are not very efficient. Also, I was never offered a tour of the place or anything. Just pay here and see you later. For one of the higher priced gyms in the area, I expected a bit more.

Fantastic experience: Great place to get a quick workout in if you’re from out of town. I got the day pass bundle so I will be going back. Has all you need in a weight room and good amount of cardio equipment. Friendly staff and everything was clean.

Positive experience: I like coastal. They have a good variety of equipment. The pool is nice when I can find a free lane that fits my schedule. The staff is nice. A little more than I would like to pay, but what isn't these days?

I am especially grateful to Ashley for paying attention to everyone in her classes It is important to me to be doing the exercises properly and I have to watch her closely in order to do that. She makes sure she is visible to me and always gives us an alternative to an exercise that we are not yet able to achieve. Everyone is very friendly and also encouraging. I hope to achieve my goals eventually, but for now I am happy to know I am working to better my health! Thanks

You all work so hard and are always so welcoming and reassuring! The gym environment feels alive and fun! The staff is always around every corner to help you if you need it. This gym offers so many different classes and a wide variety of equipment. To top that, an indoor pool. I am so lucky to have found this gym. Would recommend to anyone that lives in the area.

I very much appreciated the explanation and making things right. When I am able and ready to continue a membership with a gym I fully plan to rejoin at Coastal.

Fantastic experience: Day passes are reasonable, and you can buy several, and they never expire! Awesome for anyone visiting the Surf City/Topsail area, especially if you come often. The gym has a little bit of everything. Friendly staff and nice gym patrons. One day pass is a little pricey, $20.00, discouraging you from bringing a guest for a day.

Fantastic experience: Loved this gym! I was traveling through town in our camper van and stopped by to get a workout. The gym is well equipped had everything I needed and more! The staff is amazing and the owner is such fun, knowledgeable and amazing addition to this gym. We really felt welcomed by Kathia and her staff.

Negative experience: Went there today to get a tour of this facility. When I walked in, there was no one to greet me. The one person that was behind the desk said “hey I don’t work here” and walked off. Person that did work there and was supposed to be behind the front desk didn’t even seem like he wanted to be there let alone didn’t even seem like he wanted to give me a tour. The staff member didn’t even ask my name, greet me , asked me any questions to get to know me to see what I’d like to do in the gym, Nothing. It was almost if I was bothering him. He did not introduced himself asked me what I wanted. I had to ask him for a tour. First impression gave me that the customers are not their top priority or new income customers are not their top priority. They make you sign a waiver just to get a tour weird but okay. When I was given a tour, staff member showed me one side of the weights and said this is our new equipment. The equipment was chipped, rusted , tears in the seats. When looking up the equipment on the Internet. It was five years ago’s models for that brand. They told me that the other equipment in the gym is the same equipment they had since they opened up years and years ago. So does not seem like the gym keeps their equipment updated. But they charge you twice a year for equipment, maintenance and upkeep but it doesn’t seem like they use the money for upkeep or to give you new equipment or updated equipment. Very crowded!! They do have a pool, and is the only gym in the area that does have a pool. No I wouldn’t swim in the pool. It looks like I need some major TLC. Very dark in there gloomy looking and doesn’t look like it’s very well-kept or clean. If you have kids, it’s very expensive to have them in their kids care. so it’s not really good for families that have more than one kid because the kids care price will be more than your membership. Overall experience of a tour at this facility was very very bad. Probably the worst experience in any gym I’ve ever been to the last 30 years. The manager walked right by me and didn’t even say hello. None of the other staff members or trainers as I walked by them even greeted me or said hi or anything very unfriendly Place at least for someone else trying to possibly be a member. Maybe they’re only nice to people that are already members, I do not know. Very crowded equipment. Now they’re cardio Equipment wasn’t bad. It was decent. They did show me a room that’s for classes but didn’t even tell me about any of the classes or anything. They just told me there’s classes in there and I could use the room between class schedule times. Did not get any other information than that. All in all does not seem like a community friendly facility. Definitely do not seem to welcome new incoming people that well. I did check out two other gyms Axis and Rising Tide Fitness. I did have a much much better experience at both of those. I end up choosing Rising tide Fitness out of three. I hope this helps people make a right decision in finding a gym.

Fantastic experience: I’ve really fallen in love with all the trainers with whom I regularly interact. They are so kind, patient, and informative, and going to classes and small group trainings is always a joy. The challenge programs have been a god-send in my journey towards a healthier life. I actually look forward to going to the gym several times a week. The nutritionist, Maggie, is also the biggest sweetheart, and she really puts in the effort and time to get you on track with your nutrition. The equipment is nice, and the gym as a whole is clean. The reason I even considered this gym in the first place was for the heated pool, which did not disappoint. My one and only gripe is the price of everything, but I guess you get what you pay for, and they gotta pay the bills ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This place has pretty much anything you could ask for in a gym (aside from a kickboxing class, which I am DYING FOR! ADD THE KICKBOXING CLASS!!)

Positive experience: I love the atmosphere...comfortable, cheerful and very upbeat. The app is very easy to use. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Plenty of machines and love the variety of classes offered. My only complaint would be that the facility is not quite as clean and wiping down equipment, mats, weights, etc is not cheerfully enforced.

Fantastic experience: Coastal Fitness is an outstanding facility. It has everything you need for fitness training to hardcore bodybuilding or powerlifting. The equipment is top shelf and there is a wide variety of free weights, dumbbells and machines. The staff is friendly and they keep the facility spotless. Oh, and there's a pool :-).

Negative experience: This is getting old. I understand treadmills go out of service, but this has been down for while. You need to get better on maintaining the equipment.

Fantastic experience: I am 76 and have much trouble with arthritis, disc and joint degeneration and nerve damage from diabetes. Last fall while in NC, I tried pool aerobics and saw a great improvement so when I returned to NC in Feb, I started going to all the pool classes and felt healthier and was loosing weight too. I met with a nutritionist there, Maggie, and started a low carb diet and portion control. I met with a personal trainer, Max, and hired her to help me in the gym. In 2 months I lost 16 lbs and felt amazing. Max was an awesome trainer and easy to talk to. She adjusted the program around my disabilities, back and joint problems plus my age. I now get in and out of cars easier, go up steps with confidence, walk better and am loosing fat and building muscle. I found everyone at Coastal to be helpful, courteous, respectful, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I highly recommend Coastal. Once back in NC, I look forward to working with Max again and attending the aerobics classes. Each class is different and each instructor has a special technique.

Fantastic experience: Dawn Shephard is an excellent water aerobic instructor. She gives clear instructions with smooth transitions. She offers three different levels of difficulty for each exercise. Music appropriate for class participants. She's funny and respectful to everyone, always thanking members upon leaving class. Really love her class. Wish she taught more water classes.

Fantastic experience: Laura is the BEST water fitness instructor! She knows the names of most all participants, has a crazy energy level, encourages us and demonstrates techniques for all ability levels. Would love to see her teach more classes!

Fantastic experience: I love this place!! CFC has great staff, a variety of workout options, reasonable hours, and an indoor pool. Their group fitness classes probably has the best music to get you moving. Oh, and the price is reasonable considering everything the gym has to offer.

Fantastic experience: Great location, easy to get a quick workout in. Classes, weights, cardio, pool, personal trainers. It's a smaller gym and very busy in the mornings. If you get in and find what you want to do awesome. If you go and it's too busy you just have to figure out a different routine. But go for it and you can get your workout in. You have to sign up to use the pool. Make sure there is a lane available. You can get a day pass to try out the gym as well.

Negative experience: The gym equipment is extremely old, outdated, and difficult to operate. I was shocked to finally learn when I went to try to operate the equipment. We’ve been working out in gyms often and I just didn’t look before we agreed to a membership. This equipment has probably been in that facility for 20 years. It’s ridiculously outdated. Difficult to use.

Fantastic experience: Best gym in Hampstead / Surf City area. The setup is a perfect blend of a cardio, free weights, cables, machines, and turf. Good selection for machines and none feel out of place / useless. There are extra activities offered such as spin class available; all instructed by enthusiastic people. The staff is both caring and supportive doing a superb job at creating a positive atmosphere. Locker room amenities include showers with soap, and a very nice sauna. The swimming pool is awesome Ive heard (I do not swim) The regulars here are all nice and supportive, perfect place for beginners or long time gym goers. All in all this is the 5th gym I’ve ever been to and it’s worth every dollar $. You won’t be disappointed.

Positive experience: Spin class Saturday mornings with Sarah is an absolute awesome workout! Her playlists are always motivating and it's not overly crowded. If you want to get a good workout in early on Saturday morning definitely book her class!

Fantastic experience: I love Coastal! The group classes are amazing and fun! I love Logan and Dawn’s classes. They know their clients and work hard to are sure we are all getting the motivation and help when needed. Logan’s classes are always a blast! Whether is HITT, Tabata, Cardio, or Zumba- Logan brings the fun and laughs and leaves you exhausted and sweaty by the end. I recently took my first spin class in over 5 years. I was so nervous after a bad experience elsewhere with spin. Dawn was the instructor and it was one of the best cardio workouts I’ve had in a long time. She was motivating and fun and left me looking forward to class next week!

Fantastic experience: My first experience at Coastal was for Dawn Nelson’s Yoga Faith class. I was very happy to find out that Coastal is a Silver Sneakers location. I talked to Dawn about how not feel 70 years old. I signed up with her as my personal trainer and have been so, so pleased with every session we have. Dawn is clued into working with an “older” woman and my sessions are so geared to what I can do and what I need. As she makes me stronger with each session and tells me “it will only get better” I am very pleased with her knowledge and how it is helping me maybe not feel so 70. I will say on another topic that some of the areas of the gym are not senior friendly…treadmills are so close together it can be hazardous. I think overall the gym needs to be bigger to accommodate your members.

Negative experience: The gym itself looked nice but Veronica behind the counter convinced me this wasn’t the gym for me. She was pretty stuck up and rude, I didn’t feel welcome at all.

Fantastic experience: Coastal Fitness is a one stop shop, from child care, to sauna and everything in between. I personly have attended 5 months of 60m PT with Destiny Richmond and applaud her patience and diligence. I went into this skeptical and nervous but quickly felt comfortable and trusting learning new things and pushing the line. Her personality and ability to adapt to my skill level and make tailored schedules is why I recommend Coastal Fitness. This gym does a great job with its choice of staffing. They maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with the comfort of a clean space. My children also attend swim at this location and Carson is their coach. She is wonderful both children swim confidently and with technique.
