Equinox Williamsburg

Positive experience: A small sized outpost for the fitness empire, this location delivers almost everything you need for a full workout. The team are exceptionally nice and the location could not be better situated as it's right next to Whole Foods and numerous other shops, banks and restuarants.

Negative experience: Having been a member for over 2 years, the service at Equinox has continued to decline. At first I enjoyed the classes, but the quality of instructors have gone down. Don’t bother contacting their concierge if you’re going on vacation or try to cancel your membership. As many others have said, extremely poor service. They will take weeks to reply and by then they’ve already charged you your membership. Don’t go to Equinox for their name brand, it’s not worth it.

Fantastic experience: Was there with my sister as a guest for spinning class! Was fun

Negative experience: Overcrowded. Difficult to get a spot in the fitness classes or find equipment to use. Showers in the women’s locker room are often broken and the hot water was periodically out of service. Shop was never open during listed hours due to understaffing. Eucalyptus frozen towels were nice but everything else was disappointing. Budget gym feel for an exorbitant price.

Fantastic experience: While this isn’t the most spacious Equinox in city, this is a great home base. Class offerings are good, locker rooms are always clean, and wait times for weights or machines aren’t ever too bad, even at peak hours. The front desk staff is always friendly.

Negative experience: Called today August 26 2024 and I was lied to about the gym allowing day passes even when I asked what the fee was.

Negative experience: Worst Equinox in all of NYC, truly a joke. No doubt they'll go out of business when the other small/local/bespoke clubs ramp up their offerings. Non-attentive staff, smelly/dirty, no towels, and oversold. Its not 2015 anymore, Equinox can't skate off reputation alone.

Negative experience: Called ahead and confirmed i could trial the club for a workout as a current member in SF. Walked in 10 min later and front desk played dumb and charged me $45. I understand wanting to lock potential customers in but the baiting tactics arent cool, do better yall

Negative experience: This Equinox is terrible compared to the other locations. It’s always packed, the locker rooms are a mess and are never stocked. If this is your only gym option in the area you should transfer to Grind House around the corner. Update: Equinox replied to my public google review of course, however, the manager of the club has yet to reply to my private email…

Negative experience: Worst location Crowded, but only one maintainer works locker room, shampoo, body wash everything used up in shower room dirty locker room floor, short equipment on floor, hair dryers are not working well.

Negative experience: The worst gym ever! We transferred from Equinox Nomad which was huge and still need to pay the same price for this always crowded, small place. The manager is ignoring emails and not responding. AC is not working and it’s always hot in there. Not worth the money! UPDATE: Equinox you’re not taking seriously our feedback, nothing really changed, it’s still hot in here and whenever you come you need to wait to find free space. And the manager responded to me - I’ve never wrote him an email…my husband did (a few emails) he never received the answer.

Negative experience: I’ve seen some gross things at this equinox location but urinal mat under the dumbbell rack takes the cake (no pun intended).

Positive experience: I mostly do yoga these days and I love it that yoga studio is located downstairs in this location away from the gym as you won’t hear the noise and can truly relax after the class. The staff is always nice and friendly. I take other classes in the main studio and enjoy those as well. Compared to other locations where I’ve been training (Grammarcy, Flatiron, SoHo) it’s easier for me to sign up for the class here even same day (I hope it stays this way after the holidays). One thing that all Equinox locations have in common - bad smell in studious and smelly mats. Overall, great experience.

Positive experience: A bit crowded around 4:30 to 6:30 pm

Negative experience: Not worth the price, better off just getting a $30/mo blink membership, as the experience is the same. Not enough equipment, highly overcrowded. I do find the staff to be friendly though - simply the facility is not built to handle the volume at the promised level of quality.

Negative experience: Dirty facilities. Over crowded areas. Unfriendly staff. Not at all what you pay for when you get an equinox membership at other locations.

Fantastic experience: I tried this location out and worked with Donovan. He was very helpful and communicative and went the extra length to help me try things out with Equinox. I ultimately went with a different gym due to personal preference and nothing to do with Equinox itself. Would recommend to others interested in this location or Equinox in general.

Negative experience: Used to be great. But this specific location is far too busy. Waiting for showers. Standing in a line for the steam room. Williamsburg / Greenpoint has grown exponentially and this gym is not built to handle the member base. Extremely disappointed.

Negative experience: I don't know what's else is there to comment about this equinox Williamsburg location. It's over. Staffs are so rude and unprofessional. To start my day like this in my morning working, it's just horrible. Too crowded to even attend the classes that I booked as well.. The cleaning staffs are so rude especially at night. Been a member since 2016. Approaching the end of 2023, It's fair to say I will be quitting this gym soon. Staffs are rude and standoffish. Class instructors are either entitled or incredibly great. Its not that elite and not worth the experience. I'm being treated like I can't afford this gym membership many times by the front people. Concierge don't have sympathy for you when you complain. Rude members rush you in order to use the same machine after you finish. Yoga mats smell like feet.

Negative experience: This gym is the reason I left equinox. I used to have an all-access through work and would frequently go in Manhattan, but when I moved to Williamsburg it became harder to visit a bunch of different gyms so I decided to just stick with one location. Equinox as a brand is truly nice. I love their classes, the towels, the sauna, etc. It's expensive but I found it worth the value. But this establishment is WAY too crowded. They don't have sufficient locations in Brooklyn and overcrowding is clearly a problem they've avoided addressing if you look at the reviews. Also the comments are right, the staff can be a little stand-offish. I was considering rejoining Equinox but it doesn't seem like the situation has improved. Maybe wait until they have more locations before you sign up.

Negative experience: Overcrowded gym, no hot water for over a month, mold in the showers and extremely rude staff. Personal trainers treat regular customers like second class (as if we wouldn’t pay for our monthly fees). I have a heard a personal trainer tell someone to move to other place because her clients pay more. Not the luxury experience Equinox advertises and definitely not what we paid for.

Positive experience: I think this location is really nice! It's decently sized considering everything around the area is tiny so it actually is pretty big considering that but the layout is kind of weird because you have to go upstairs for main gym floor then you have to back downstairs for the locker rooms/yoga room. It's nice that they have multiple fridges filled with the wet towels that smell divine!! And the one other cool thing is that they have the recovery haus thing where you can just float and relax. With all that said though, the reason for just the 3 stars is because the cleanliness could be a lot better in the locker rooms. There was a lot of black mold around the shower booths and the bathroom area was pretty dark too with toilet paper just thrown everywhere and such. So it didnt really feel clean but other than that the gym itself was nice and the locker rooms were also pretty spacious too

Negative experience: Not worth it. Charges are horrendous.

Negative experience: The men's shower room has been providing cold water only for months. This is not something you would expect when paying $300+/month for the membership.

Negative experience: Staff at this location are nice. However, membership cost does not equal to the value of the facility, overcrowded, shower is always full along with the steam room, especially on the peak hours. Additionally, the hot water is gone every other day. writing this review because for the last five days, there was no hot water.

Negative experience: It doesn’t matter what time of the day you you come you will have to wait to use any machine on the floor. I spend so much of my time at the gym just waiting and it’s really frustrating when you’re using multiple machines and have to wait 10 minutes after each exercise, a 45 minute workout takes 75 minutes. If that weren’t the case then it would be a good gym, that’s my only complaint is I can’t actually use anything when I need to.

Negative experience: This gym gets so overcrowded sometimes it’s so stressful and frustrating that cancels the benefits of working out… why am I paying $275 dlls a month if I can’t use the threadmills, or having a relaxing use of the steam… I even have to wait for towels because they run out. the only reason I come here is because it’s close to my apartment. May update: still overcrowded, still not addressing the cold water issue. I know cold showers are supposed to be healthier than hot showers. But it would be nice to be an option and not the norm. Going at peak hours is a nightmare, you have to wait for most of the equipment. It’s really frustrating because you are paying a lot of money for a quality gym. I brought some of these issues at the concierge, their answer: upgrade to the all access location so you can go to another gym. GREAT SOLUTION PAY US MORE MONEY. Like I said I only keep going there because it’s close to my apartment and I enjoy the steam. But man this location keeps getting worse.

Negative experience: Bathrooms are moldy and unclean. Toiletry bottles are covered with orange mold, and it seems like the body wash and shampoo is diluted with water. Bathroom is frequently low or nearly out off towels. This place could use a deep cleaning!

Negative experience: zero stars, if possible. this gym is so small and overused that it’s impossible to get on any machines. literally every single one is in use.

Negative experience: Consistently the most crowded equinox in nyc. Be prepared to wait for a locker, wait for a towel, wait for a shower, wait for equipment, and forget about using the steam. Also, probably related, one of the dirtiest clubs in the system. Equinox really needs more Brooklyn locations and at least one more in Williamsburg. Update: it just keeps getting worse, showers won’t drain from over use, classes book up as soon as they open. The situation is dire. Update: somehow it gets worse, today it’s no hot water. And as far as I can tell there’s only one spot to fill a water bottle and that’s a trickle. Update: don’t forget to finish your workout with a nice room temp eucalyptus towel Update: it almost feels like they’re messing with us (me?) at this point. Still no hot water, it’s been weeks. And somehow no water and STILL no towels. Newest trend, they stopped cleaning the cycling studio between classes. Gross. Weekly update: somehow still I hot water. None of these issue above have even been slightly addressed. I’ve been leaving these updates for over 2 months and it’s just keeps going downhill. Newest issues: showers don’t turn off. They just stay on, more wasteful than anything else. Also, people put things into the soap and shampoo bottles. No idea what this is about but it looks like used tissues. Beyond disgusting. Update: just because I’ve been quiet for a bit doesn’t meant things are better. It’s mid April and the club has not had consistent hot water since January. None of the issues in this review have been at all addressed. Update: the yoga studio is FILTHY. Stinks like a high school locker room, mats are covered in other people’s hair, and sort and grime everywhere. Update: got a little better for a bit but worse than ever now. Literally zero lockers available. Update: just because you haven’t heard from me in a while doesn’t mean things are better. They’re not. It’s chronic, there’s always something wrong and usually a few things. The fundamental problem is the club is way too crowded. Especially in January, just stay away. Update: (last update was two days ago) no hot water again Update: still no hot water, it’s been two weeks. Anyone been to lifetime? They provide luxuries like hot water and towels? Update: still no hot water, it’s been a month. No communication at all about when it might be restored. If equinox was my landlord I wouldn’t be paying rent. Update: hopefully you don’t get thirsty when you work out, water bottle fill is broken. For context these reviews span a year and a half. It’s only gotten worse. Update: this one is for you fellow members (can only speak for the guys). The locker room is a shared space, clean up after yourself. Don’t leave your towels on the floor, on locker doors, on the benches. Don’t leave all your dirty clothes strewn about while you shower. This club is by far the worst with this made worse by how small the locker room is. Update: you win equinox, I’ve had enough. Canceled my membership after 10+ years, it’s just not worth it anymore and there are much better options. - Disgruntled

Negative experience: The bar is just so incredibly low. Horrible staff (besides the trainers) who care more about the free membership than doing their job. Hard to believe this is an actual equinox location

Positive experience: Crowded during any peak time. Fine if you can use it during weekdays before 4pm. Needs an East Williamsburg Location. Also the heaviest dumbbell weights are near the floor and slightly underneath the lighter weights. So difficult to access the heavy dumbbells without risking your lower back.

Negative experience: Erin has a terrible attitude towards newbies, i felt very unwelcome. I recommend a different instructor.

Positive experience: The only reasons I am not giving it less than 3 stars is because of the staff. Equinox desperately needs to open a new location in the Williamsburg area as this one is far too small for the amount of traffic it gets. Trying to workout before or after work can mean 10 minute waits to use the equipment, as well as needing to climb over one another in the changing rooms. Instead of investing in what feel like niche amenities (like cryo chambers for an additional cost), it would have been more helpful to expand the changing rooms (if possible). Given a fair amount of Williamsburg equinox users are predominantly using this location, at minimum they should offer a single location membership tier, as we really don't get any of the benefits of the multi access. Ultimately the value here doesn't really justify the price.

Positive experience: Great gym and location but staff really needs to clean the area near the 30-45 pound dumbbells. There's a really horrible smell that might be mold or something worse. It's been like that for months, and it's getting worse.

Thank you Andrew for always helping me. I highly recommend disregarding all the reviews their negative. It’s a Williamsburg equinox so jo need to compare to soho or Orange County. It’s perfect just the way it is. Thank you equinox for making this location available to me.

Fantastic experience: Pretty good equinox. On the smaller side of the nyc locations and I wish it’s workspaces were larger but it’s solid overall. It get busy after work though so keep that in mind

Negative experience: Awkward layout (walk up flight up stairs, go across entire gym, then down another stairs just to get to locker room) and pretty terrible foam rollers. Equipment and staff are adequate otherwise.

Negative experience: This gym one of the smallest ones. The working staff esp in lockers is very unfriendly. They never bring anything that runs out. Mostly just keep on walking or try to avoid eye contact. And things run out a lot as it’s so busy! They have 1 -2 lotion bottles for the entire locker. For 260 per month they need to provide better services…It’s worse after the pandemic.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and very clean.

Positive experience: I mean honestly, I would say it feels a little dirtier than the equinoxes in LA or Manhattan. It definitely needs to be bigger or they need to open a location in greenpoint because this place is too small for the amount of people who go during rush hours. I wish there was more equipment like in Hudson yards or even high line/Bryant park. It’s convenient if you live in Williamsburg but just overall a lack luster experience compared to going to ones in Manhattan.

Negative experience: There’s been a severe decline in upkeep, especially in the showers/locker rooms. The showers back up every time, leaving me standing in over an inch of gross water- this is how athlete’s foot and other similar issues spread. The showers look and smell dirty in recent months. I also found what appeared to be a dead bed bug on the stretching mats a few weeks ago. It’s insulting that equinox charges as much as they do and then allow these problems to go unresolved. I would not recommend joining this gym. It’s also incredibly crowded during certain hours, but they still frequently show the space to new potential members.

Negative experience: Feel like i’m getting a bad deal living next to one of the smallest Equinoxs in the city. They need to expand this location because these days it actually gets quite full.

Negative experience: Wow..what a disapointment. This place reminds me of a 25 dollars a month gym(blink) ...way way small for an Equinox gym. Dirty, stickey and old machines. Doesnt have enough staff for cleanliness. The CEO makes millions..but doesnt want to hire and extra well needed 15 dollars/hr cleaner. And all those people that put 5 stars oBviously dont know what a proper lux gym is. We paY premium we expect premium. Looking and reading all the reviews that have been posted online for years... I suggest people take " pictures" and post the problems of this location on social media....but i really dont expect improvments...especially at this location. Best to just CANCEL since theres real no difference between this location and BLINK FITNESS...SHAME SHAME SHAME on EQUINOX.

Negative experience: The gym has great classes, well maintained equipment and overall is very clean. The locker-rooms are well stocked and high end too. During peak hours it can get busy. The customer service is horrendous and I’d recommend you stay away. For a nice gym like Equinox I’d expect much much better. After pausing my membership due to medical leave I received a monthly charge and I still haven’t received any communication or refund. I emailed their concierge line and after an initial response I’ve been ghosted. I then called the club and the central concierge line and was told on both I’d hear back after a few days — no response. Once they have your business you’re dead to them. I’ll have to dispute with my credit card to cancel my membership and refund. I’d stay away and join a friendly gym.

Fantastic experience: If you live in the neighborhood and are looking for a personal trainer, Jackson R at this equinox is awesome! He is super effective, funny, and kind. Time flew during our PT session. 100% would recommend training with Jackson

Negative experience: $300/month for a filthy club with old cardio equipment. Club is literally filthy most days by mid afternoon, locker room is gross. Price keeps rising while quality and cleanliness keeps falling. Their “all access” pass only gives you 3/12 clubs in NYC. Total rip off.

The stretching mat is greasy, covered in dust, dirt, and styrofoam chunks from the rollers. There’s even loose change just hanging out today. The caulk and grout in the showers is growing stuff. The floors in the locker room are gritty. It’s a relatively small facility next to other locations I frequent - it shouldn’t be so tough to keep up. Update: still messy around here, even midday between the rushes. Including a couple pictures for fun. Could be any day of the week… Update 2: it doesn’t really get better. The shower stalls are loaded with pink slime and black fungus. It’s like showering in a college kid’s tub. Adding some pics because this is turning into a blog. We pay a lot of money to use this place. Hey corporate, can you act like this matters?

Fantastic experience: Great Gym! Clean, fresh, and never too busy. Good mix of cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights. They also 2 unassisted bench press stations which is da bomb!

Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism My personal trainer comes highly recommended. I've been with her for a long time and have gained considerable arm, leg, and ab strength. She encourages me to be the best version of myself every day. Simply choose her if you want to achieve a physically fit body!

Negative experience: It's just entirely too crowded. I think there's a desperate need for another equinox in the neighborhood closer to the water and another in greenpoint ... and possibly in bushwick. Starting around 4:30 every rack, every bench, and every cable station is occupied. You have to have an eagle eye and pounce to get there before someone else does - it's like going for the seat on a crowded train at rush hour. I try to go around 2/3 or after 7 to avoid crowds, but that only works on occasion - I still find it tough to get to everything I need at off peak hours. Really frustrating that they also close at 9pm. I like the gym - good layout - relatively good equipment - but a WHOLE LOT of other people like it too. It's a very nice locker room, but you have to hunt competitively to find an open locker these days. I've taken great classes here over the years - although none of my favorite teachers have returned post-pandemic.

Negative experience: Small space, long waits for equipment, but what really prompted me to write this review is interactions I had with the managers of the gyms. They're pretty unhelpful, unfriendly and take too long to get back to you if you need something from them. The 2nd star in this review is because this is an equinox and as you'd expect the locker rooms and other amenities are very nice. If you're going to pay for Equinox as your gym though, choose a different location.

Negative experience: Not a terrible gym but really really terrible for the money and not worthy of equinox. This is the worst equinox I’ve ever visited. The gym is small and lacks strength equipment that a basic gym would have like having only 1 leg press (no hack squat press) or only 1 calve machine. The chest, back, and arm machines are lacking also. The main problem for me is that the ab machines are seriously lacking. It’s like they chose to have the machines very spread out in this very small space rather than have a good gym. A big salute to form and a screw you to function. Honestly the most basic gym in another city has way better weight training equipment than here. The biggest problem with this gym is the locker room. There is a serious need for ventilation. One thing equinox gyms always have over other gyms and the main reason I’ve been a member for years is that one could exercise before work, shower and go to work fresh. Not so at the Williamsburg equinox. The clothes changing area is like a steam room especially in the winter. At 730 after my workout and shower I change into my business clothes but I can’t stop sweating because it’s 75 degrees and in incredibly humid. The showers are also dirty and the floors often slimy. These problems seem easily fixable but I’ve complained to no avail. The deal breaker for me is how hot and humid it is in the Men’s locker room. On the plus side, the classes are great, the instructors are excellent and the staff in general is exceptional. The yoga here is also amazing. My membership was frozen during the pandemic and I’ve decided to cancel and not rejoin as long as this is the only equinox location near my home out or until they deal with their easily fixed issues.

The reason I am giving 5 stars is because of the AGM Kory who addressed my concerns and was receptive to my criticism. He did not lose his cool and remained level headed. Negative experience: Place is good however they are not flexible for people who travel once in a while to another location and want to use the gym once or twice, specially considering Actors work out there, Pretty LAME.

Negative experience: Unfortunately, this Equinox just doesn’t meet the standards that are expected of not only the brand but also just how much individuals pay. The gym is horribly laid out, and there is minimal room during peek hours. In order to support the demand they either need another location or at least two more floors. I would not recommend joining. If you go at odd hours you would have no issues.
