Positive experience: Nice gym. Has a variety of classes but they need to fix the pool and sauna or remove it from their ads. Currently those facilities are not available.

While the restoration process has taken longer than expected, we are excited to announce that, in addition to the pool and sauna, we'll also be introducing a steam room and cold room chamber when the area reopens. Positive experience: Fair gym, but a lot of their machines/equipment are outdated and badly in need of repairs (this is especially true in their satellite locations). Seems like their mentality around a lot of stuff is to do the bare minimum while pocketing as much $$ as possible.

Negative experience: Two stars enough said. Horrible customer service. No one will even respond to any emails or messages or voicemails. I'm trying to find out options and you can't get a hold of anyone.

He has called and texted and voicemails have been left. Again, without you being in communication with us we are unable to properly address your concerns.
Negative experience: Trying to cancel after my year membership and the “manager” ran me around saying that I have to send a letter or come in to cancel, well I’m out of state and and can’t use the gym. How ridiculous.

Negative experience: Dont forget to cancel your membership! Or they threaten your credit score over something you stopped using, because as humans we forget but businesses will **** you regardless. Edit: change your policy and just revoke access to your gyms when people cant pay, can't believe i had to sacrifice savings to save a credit score I haven't even started building! Your intentions were to take advantage of those who forgot a small paragraph after signing up online in 2-3 minutes.

Negative experience: The gym itself is good and has great machines and options. HOWEVER, I am very heated that they charged me after my one year contract was up. I emailed months prior to the contract ending asking what exact month it ended in. They said June. Great. The problem I have is they charged me this month (July) "because I didn't go in person and cancel or send an email stating I wanted it canceled". Excuse me? I DID speak to someone about it and they told me it was done in June end of story. No mention of me having to go in person to cancel. No mention of having to send a specific email asking it be canceled. No mention of my membership then moving to a month to month basis versus another one year contract. I called and spoke to someone on the phone, all they did was speak in circles. Clearly a shady business who prioritizes money. I'm not the only one that feels this way either, read the other one star reviews. I am still very pissed about this. This is not how you conduct a business. Instead of replying something publicly on here like you did with the other one star reviews, how about doing the right thing by honoring what you told me and refund my $35. As a college student, $35 goes a long way.

Positive experience: Is there any way we could use the outside area with machines on the side of the building while you’re closed due to the pool room fire? I was told it’s a liability but you have cameras, and could also have one employee supervise the area? Closing completely and not taking advantage of the outside area is disappointing

John, we made every effort to provide group fitness classes outside under the pavilion to ensure our members could continue their workouts. Additionally, many members found that having access to both of our satellite clubs during this time was very beneficial. Regarding the use of the outside workout area, safety and liability are our top priorities. While we understand your disappointment, we had to adhere to strict safety protocols. Nevertheless, we are extremely grateful to have the opportunity to welcome you and all of our members back to our main club.
Fantastic experience: I always recommend Old Town Gym. It's a nice place. But what really keeps me coming back in particular is Andrea's Zumba class. It's my main reason for staying a member. It's more than just a class for me. I look forward to it always and I schedule my life around it! I rarely miss it! I am glad Her Sunday class is back!

Fantastic experience: Old Town is the best gym and community to be a part of hands down! I’ve met some great friends through being here. Andrea’s Zumba class is absolutely amazing! And so exciting she was able to bring back her Sunday class. She puts so much of her time and own money into making her class an absolute blast! Love, love, love all her lights and her energy! She makes it so easy for people to come and do their own thing without ever being judged! The smoothie bar is also a huge highlight at OTG. Andrea makes the best smoothies and even goes out of her way to make them for members late at night. Andrea does an amazing job running the gym at night and any time she is here she will stop whatever she is doing to help a member. She’s so friendly and goes above and beyond to help the gym and members. She’s also helped me out tremendously as well as other members here with all her knowledge and support. Anything fitness she’s got the answer to help with all of her knowledge!

Fantastic experience: I am a newer member and I just finished up 10 sessions with Karen as my physical trainer . It was a great way to learn to use the equipment correctly and without injury. What a great experience! I would highly recommend Old Town Gym. Roland was very informative and our personal trainer, Karen was exceptional. She pushed us just the right amount and kept us laughing & motivated at each visit. The facilities are clean and well maintained. It is the friendliest gym around. The members are all very welcoming and so willing to help if they see you struggling with any machine set up. This has been well worth the money spent and it is so refreshing to see staff that seems so happy to be doing their job.

Negative experience: I pay $44.99 a month for broken equipment at the pinconning location, always busy, and rude workers at the bay city old town. When I can go in to cancel my membership, I will and go to planet fitness!

Positive experience: Excellent staff and gym. Staff is willing to help with any questions you may have. It's never overly crowded, like other gyms in Bay City. The only downfall would be the teenage kids and their friends on the weekends. They take advantage of no staff during that time. Other than that it's a great place to work out.

Fantastic experience: I’ve worked out here on and off for 10 years, I love the equipment and I love that they’re getting more new stuff, would it be possible to move the adjustable abduction / adduction machine back into the leg room, it was very handy and a time saver to be able to do those and calves at the same time. I know you have the plate abduction / adduction machines just outside but they’re not as quick and easy as the old adjustable one that you just moved to the outside area. It’s used a lot in the mornings by myself and other members, thank you for your consideration

Fantastic experience: I travel all over the States and have been to different gyms. Good ones terrible ones. This one by far is the most comfortable gym because they treat you with a lot of positive vibes. The smoothies are so delicious, they have energy drinks and so much more. Since I am from Austin Texas I can't spend on monthly contracts. Most gyms don't have this. 1 day 10.00 dllrs 1 week they charge like 30.00 which I will gladly pay because it's worth it. Has a sauna and great people working and ready to help you. Congratulations to the owners and management keep treating people and welcoming them like you did to me. God bless

Fantastic experience: I don't want to give just a typical good review of this place. Yes everything is great. But this place I appreciate on so many levels. For the betterment of me on all levels across the board. I love that I'm not just a member of one, but have access to 3 gyms. Bay City Essexville, Pinconning. Pinny is where I spend the most time. People that run this place are great, Gabby is my homie, Austin Cameron Roland and the owner Ray. Great group of people who I appreciate more than they know.

Negative experience: The gym itself and staff are great but they need to put a higher age limit on 24hr access. Too many teenagers who have no courtesy or respect for others or the gym and you constantly have to pick up weights and put them away for them.

Fantastic experience: Went here 1time while traveling. VERY FRIENDLY STAFF AND MEMBERS. Lots of machines, clean locker rooms, great visit rate! We had a GREAT time! We are PF members in FL and always go there when traveling but had terrible experience trying to do 1 time visit at new local PF. Old Town Gym treated us like family! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Positive experience: They took money out of my account and are saying it's not showing in their systems but it is on my bank statement. Want to cancel membership due to it and they want to charge me a couple hundred.

Fantastic experience: Unreal place!!! Amazing management! Sauna is the best in the Tri-city area! This is the place you want to be if you are training for sports. Played football at Saginaw Valley state for 5 years, going on to play at UMASS. They have everything you need to do to succeed at the D1 level! Will be back at the gym whenever I am in Michigan!

Fantastic experience: Really nice place! Laid back atmosphere, pool and hot tub! The sauna was fierce. I really enjoyed the treadmill. Lots of different machines to choose from. Cool little smoothie shop also

Negative experience: (FYI- Delta College's gym was just renovated, and it can be cheaper to buy a membership there!) Their gym is fine, but the employees (and therefore I assume the owner) definitely aren't great. Just read through their condescending responses to others' low ratings and you'll get a sense of how they'll treat you after they start getting your money. And yes, like many others point out, their cancellation policy seems purposefully bad. You need to go in person to fill out a form that gives them 30 days notice to stop charging your account, and even if asked over the phone, they will harshly tell you they refuse to do it any other way. They're more than aware of how terrible their policy is, but because it helps them make a little more money, they refuse to change. They don't seem to care about anything more than your money and will just endlessly echo "Well you agreed to it when you signed up for it." Don't worry, I won't be making that mistake again, and I'll definitely be sharing my experience with others. Not to mention, Delta College's gym was just renovated, and it can be cheaper to buy a membership there, especially if you have another person in your house who goes to the gym as well! (If you actually want to do better, I'd suggest start trying to actually take some criticism from others instead of smugly replying like a defensive fool, especially with typos in your responses. "Cancel" isn't hard or long to spell.)
Hello there, let me start by saying that I appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed review as it relates to your personal experience here at our club. Often times due to the fact that we have 3 clubs we don't have the time to have lengthy conversations as it relates to matters that often time can be easily resolved with quick efficient replies and or phone conversations. Old town Gym Clubs are among Nothern Michigan's best for top rated customer service experiences. Therefore, given the nature of your concerns I felt it most appropriate for me to take the time to personal address all of your concerns to ensure you that we take our customer service experiences to heart. We also make it a point to provide outstanding customer service experiences. As the business owner of Old Town Gym I spend a lot of time inside of all our clubs interacting with our members and I make myself available for the purposes of any questions, comments or concerns. Therefore, I am shocked that we have not had the opportunity to talk in person and or that you didn't feel comfortable enough to share your concerns in person with myself and or our staff. Nevertheless, as it relates to our cancellation policy I will again reiterate to you and to anyone who takes the time to read this that when it comes to cancelling a membership we have the following options available: 1) you can send a request to have your membership cancelled via mail and once the letter is received we will then process the request which is made effective 30 days from the time it was received for any membership that is in good standing. 2) you can fill out a cancellation form in person at our club and the cancellation is made effective on that same day as long as the membership is in good standings the request will then be processed and any invoice that is due within 30 days from the date of the cancellation request will be charged and all future invoices will be cancelled. It's my hopes that this will help to clear up any confusion. Another reason that we require ALL cancellations to provide a minimum of 30 days' notice is to ensure that we have adequate time to communicate with you the member and also our billing department to avoid any confusion as it relates to future charges. Additionally, keep in mind that you can refer back to your original fitness commitment contact with it as the cancellation policy is outlined twice, you will find it under the headings " renewal terms" and on the back of your fitness commitment under the headings "members right to cancel." Throughout your commentary I couldn't help but notice that you appeared to be a little disingenuous as it relates to your comment as us not wanting to change it because it provides us with a little bit more extra money. The reason we have been around for as long as we have and remind that while most small businesses closed and or had to consolidate during the last few years we have expanded. I cannot help but think that the reason we have been able to expand is because we have CONTINUED to put our members best interests first. Therefore, the reason we have these policies in place isn't because of monetary gains it is so that there is no confusion and that all of our staff members are speaking the same language as it relates to membership cancellations procedures and expectations. Furthermore, one of the things that most of our members have found to be of great benefit is the locations of our clubs. It's my hopes that with given your chosen future club location that you have taken into consideration the cost of travel and most importantly commute time. One of the many things that I remind my staff is that when it comes to pricing cheap isn't always the best option when you factor into other things such as your time. You know, for some reason there are still those people out there who would much rather save 50 cents but only to spend 100 later in repairs due to poor quality parts.

Fantastic experience: The place is fairly small but we'll be equipped. It's definitely worth your time. The layout and program format is similar to the lifetime fitness and LA fitness.

Positive experience: My only con is the contract. I wish we had never gotten involved in it. At the time, we were trying to support local and not go purple chain. We had unforseen life circumstances pop up which involved a physical move away from the area to maintain employment and there is no way out of this contract. We don't even live in the area anymore (3 hours away now) and nobody would "buy us out" or pay an astronomical fee which was the only two options we were told we could do. So we continue to be charged for a gym membership we cannot use. I was aware of the contract when i signed it so the "sorry you didn't understand" won't work here but I was just hoping for some understanding of the situation was all, we surely didn't anticipate having to uproot our life when we signed. The gym is very nice and we did really enjoy using it. Roland (if he's still there) was always phenomenal and so helpful everytime we came. I really appreciate that. The pool and hot tub are also a huge plus.

Fantastic experience: Great place to get healthy a lot of equipment to choose from added bonus is a pool area with a sauna at the bay city location. Its a very chill environment with people mostly exercising at there own pace but they have options if you wanted something in a group setting. Employees are very nice when you ask for help with figuring out new equipment and everyone in general is very friendly. Last but not least the smoothies they make taste awesome for having protein powder and you get a good size one for $5.

Negative experience: Very outdated equipment. A lot of it has holes in the padding. Missing weights or incomplete sets for free weights. Missing certain weight sets for curl bars for months. There ab workout room is the size of a shoe box. Their cancellation process is a joke. They won’t let you do it over the phone it has to be in person and if you try to cancel within 30 days of your bill date they bill you for the upcoming month. Tried explaining to the manager that I hadn’t been in in over 30 days and he could’ve cared less. Wouldn’t recommend this gym to anyone unless you’re interested in fitness classes pretty sure that’s the only thing that keeps the doors open

Negative experience: If you like your money I would never use this gym. We have been getting charged for a membership we haven't had since January 2021and every time my husband or I go in there to see what is going on they tell him he has to come back when a manager is available but we had a family member walk in there 5 minutes after we did and asked to get a membership and asked for the manager and one magically appeared. We also talked to some other people that have had membership and didn't renew and they said that they kept getting charged also and they had to cancel their bank cards and report it as fraud.
All of our staff can cxl your membership simply fill out form you get a copy that easy if you never filled one out you might want to asap
Fantastic experience: This is a nice gym and they have all the equipment that you need to get a workout done. They even have a nice pool and hot tub that you can use that is really nice. Also when I went here while my dad always worked out I would hang out with the owners kids and we would have lots of fun in the daycare area. It’s a nice place to take your kids if you want to get a workout and have someone watch your kids.

Fantastic experience: This is the best gym I have ever joined! The price is good classes and tanning included! The staff is awesome as well! All the trainers are great, I worked with Jimmy and he gave me confidence and encouragement to do things I didn’t think I could. Roland will make you laugh and give you a workout that leaves you sweating and a size smaller lol! If you ever want to know about classes or get motivated to start you just have to meet Andrea she is your girl! Highly recommend this gym! The owner Ray is a nice guy too!

Positive experience: My husband and I really like the gym in Essexville, Michigan. It's quiet and not too busy. Much better than the main gym.
Negative experience: I'm going to try this place again and give it a second chance but I had a bad experience there. When I signed up for my family we asked about things that all ages could do and we're told that the kids could have 24 hr access to the pool that was the reason we joined. This was a selling point and in the contract also why I got my friends families to join. Then we were given restricted hrs and told that it was changing. We told the owner how we felt and the reason we joined but it was too bad for us and many of the families left including us. Now this was before covid. I haven't gone back since so I don't know the new rules but I have seen Facebook live streams showing kids and families swimming late into the evening. I'll be checking to see if things changed but my review reflects my contract of what was the things we could do, the rules we had to agree to and we never did anything that would violate those rules yet our contract was not honored.

Fantastic experience: Old town gym has the warmest community and professional trainers at the ready every single day. I workout here consistently and never have an issue with staff or guests. I love the transparency and helpfulness from staff, especially Austin. He's kinda like my dad now.

Fantastic experience: Old town gym is a wonderful gym for all people no matter what your interest may be, (such as bulking up, trimming away some fat, or just getting in some movement). The staff here are always friendly, especially Kayla, who always greets you coming in and tell you bye when your leaving and will anwser any questions that you may have during your workout.

Fantastic experience: Staff are always polite and courteous there smoothies are awesome and I always go to the pool and hot tub and have a good time as a guest on my wife's account. The owner is usually available there and I see people really enjoy talking to him. And they offer cleaner and staff clean the place really well too.

Fantastic experience: I just recently moved to Bay City from Florida and was looking for a gym in the area. After a tour, I knew this was the place for me. The staff is always so professional and accommodating. Kayla has especially been very helpful whether it be for tanning or a bomb smoothie.
