Positive experience: It's nothing fancy, but it was a good facility for my daughter's beginner volleyball team.

Negative experience: It is definitely not as good as before 2016 flood. Most equipment looks very out-dated. Not a very good selection of equipment.
Hi April, we are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the quality and variety of the equipment. All the equipment in our YMCA was purchased brand new after the flood. We purchase new equipment and make replacements when necessary, as best we can, with the funds we have as a non-profit organization. We hope to better serve you in the future.
Fantastic experience: Tried out the spin class. 1 hour workout with no standing breaks. Everyone was really nice and supportive. I'll be back, but with a wide seat cushion...crotch area sore due to the really small and hard seat. My legs felt like jelly when we were done, but it's a great workout!

Fantastic experience: Great family environment. Classes offer accomplished instructors and the gym has a nice range of equipment without being overwhelming. While, Ms. Amany and Ms. Pam in the daycare are exceptional with my child, he looks forward to accompanying me to the gym.

Negative experience: Someone stole my engagement ring out of the locker room!!!!!!! I had made flyers to see if anyone still had it and if they would return it the next day after I put them up the employees took it down saying they’re “not allowed to put things up” but they’ll take a copy and ask people if they seen it, for one I’m not dumb I know damn well yall not asking people if they seen it because I went one of my cousins in there the day after and no one asked her anything I’m starting to think one of the employees stole it and probably sold it to a pawn shop by now
Moe, we are sorry to hear that your ring is missing, it is never a positive experience when something like this happens. We pride ourselves on hiring staff who live by the Ys mission and have a passion for serving others so we feel it would be highly unlikely for a staff member to take something that does not belong to them. We do recommend that our members lock their belongings in the lockers so we can try to avoid these situations. When these situations do occur, we recommend filing a report with the local authorities. It is an unfortunate situation that has occurred and we have asked members and staff if they have found the ring. Often times we have things returned to our lost and found so we will continue to keep an eye out for it and hope it is returned.
Fantastic experience: Love this Y and the friendly staff. Aqua fit classes have been a game changer for me. Lisa & Mishka are both excellent instructor's. Both are unique and keep us motivated. There are water weights, foam boards and noodles to help with water resistance. The lifeguards are all friendly and vigilant. My son prefers this Y because it has 12 ft deep area and he doesn't have to wait for lanes to open or classes to end before getting in the pool area. The center has an upstairs walking area above the gym. It has two decent dressing/shower areas with lockers on two separate locations. The workout area looks out to the pool and has plenty of equipment. I never had to wait long for a machine like most Y's I visited recently. The monthly fees are reasonable and affordable. Love that they offered 0 joining fees this Summer. Looking forward to trying the pools with heat during the winter months. (Americana Y, Paul G Manship Ymca and a new one being built and due to open 2025.

Negative experience: If I could give negative stars I would, this place will never be getting business from me ever again! The people that work there are rude, when I came there for swim lessons in the first day someone asked me with an attitude why I was there, and then on the days my child had swim lessons they said they would let us know 30 minutes before if they would be cancelling class only to let me know as I'm walking to the pool. And not only that but when I asked about a refund they said that they couldn't give one but in a group text it was stated that we would get refunded for the days missed. I do not live close so that is not only a waste of time but a waste of gas! And lastly my children were looking forward to swim lessons this summer and thanks to them my children are sad. They won't be getting another dime out of me!!!!
Tia, We are sorry to hear you did not have a positive experience with our swimming lessons. We understand your frustration as we are frustrated as well. Due to safety of our participants, we cannot provide swimming lessons during inclement weather and unfortunately it's been poor weather conditions every afternoon lately. We always give our best efforts to provide lessons and wait for the weather to clear, we cancel lessons within 30 minutes prior to lessons starting if the weather hasn't cleared in the area. Since we were unable to provide swimming lessons due to inclement weather, a full refund will be provided. We apologize for the inconvenience, it is never our intention to cancel lessons but the safety of our participants and staff must come first. We again apologize for the inconvenience and hope to serve you better in the future.
Negative experience: My children will never return to this ymca for sports! Let’s start with volleyball the ref sucks she thinks they’re parents who don’t know the game of volleyball so she makes dumb calls throughout the game. If she calls something on one team and the opposite team does the same thing she doesn’t make the call. Her attitude sucks!!! My son plays soccer half of his season was cancelled due to not enough players or the weather and none of them were rescheduled which means it was a waste of money!! This is suppose to be an opportunity to give children the time to learn the technique of sports not the opportunity to cheat them out of games or cheat them out of seasons! This organization won’t get another quarter from me or my family

Fantastic experience: Very spacious
Positive experience: I guess I should’ve read the Easter brochure a little better. It’s a really nice place but our babies were 18 and 15 months old and they didn’t have any egg hunt for them but they had lots of faced coloring and had lots of free food and the kids really enjoyed it anyway they had Easter Easter bunny. It was nice.

Fantastic experience: Very Clean, Easy Parking And Handicap Accessible, C B Pennington Jr YMCA Has Programs For All Age Groups Including Senior Citizens. The Staff Members Are All Very Friendly, Helpful, Knowledgeable And Professional. Last Year When Several Schools Closed Without Any Advanced Notice To The Parents And Guardians, This Particular YAMC Stepped Up And Accepted The School Children. Especially The Lower Elementary And Middle School Children. Also This YMCA Had Staff On Hand To Provide Age Appropriate Activities For These Children. Therefore A Lot Of Parents And Guardians Were Able To Go To Their Jobs And Work Their Schedule Shifts. I Would Definitely Rate This YMCA 10/10. "Definitely A Great Asset To The Community Especially In A Time Of Need".

Fantastic experience: I’ve been dealing With CB Pennington YMCA for almost 10’ years more so with the sports program. Brittany is always ready any of my questions whenever they come up. She’s very personable and remains calm in any situation. The sports department is definitely better because of her.

Fantastic experience: I love the Cardio Line Dance Class at Pennington. A lot of Seniors attend this class. It benefits the body and mind; improves flexibility and increases energy. Cordia is a great instructor; she is patient, kind and fun. Come and join the fun!
Fantastic experience: The cardio line dancing class every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 is the best. Cordia is an excellent instructor. If you are struggling with getting the steps, she will dance next to you so you can get it. Love the class!

Negative experience: I hate to leave this negative review because of the history of this place in the community. However, it is not right how it is run. I purchased private swimming lessons for my daughter in early summer, set to begin on July 24th. We were not contacted in any way, either email or phone, for the entirety of the summer (but I figured this was just protocol). We showed up at the scheduled date and no one expected us. Literally, 3 lifeguards who hadn't graduated high school were the only ones "in charge" around the pool. Two of them ignored me and walked away without acknowledging my question but one was kind and told me she didn't know what to tell me, since the woman who normally held private lessons was gone for the week. I insisted we'd paid. She clearly didn't know who to ask or what to do, so she took charge herself and started giving "lessons" to my daughter. There were about 15 other children from the summer camp in the shallow end. It was not conducive at all to any lessons. By the time we got in, we were already 5 minutes into the scheduled time. A woman soon showed up with a Staff shirt. She seemed to know what to do! I thought this was the real teacher, that someone had called the replacement teacher, since we had been scheduled. However, she stayed with us for 5 minutes before beginning group lessons nearby. The "lesson" ended early because the young high school girl just left my daughter and I in the pool without saying anything. This incident reflects a severe lack of ability on the managements part. How can a paid and scheduled private swim lesson go by the wayside like this? Especially in this day and age, it's as simple as sharing a Google Sheet with your superior which contains all contact details of paid lessons. I spoke with the manager Ms. Pizzolato after, as we had clearly not been expected nor had we received the value I'd paid for with a true swimming teacher. She told me all scheduling was through the Head of Swimming (I forget the real title of the woman but let's go with that) and that she had no ability to look us up since she didn't have access to that schedule. I asked if she would be back the next day to continue with a real swim teacher and she told me no. She told me we should've been contacted after we'd booked, for confirmation and to receive info. Then, when it was known the woman would go on vacation, we should've been contacted to cancel. I asked her to find out if there would be a replacement teacher coming from a different branch and to give us a call or an email. She agreed and we left. Hours later with still no contact, I called the YMCA general number and they referred me to the general manager's office number, Mr. Josh Landry. I left a message about the problem. Then, I sent an email to the same manager I'd spoken to at that branch. I was told I would receive a refund, since no one would be coming to replace the swim teacher. This was July 24th. I have still not received a refund despite talking directly through email to both managers. I hope they follow up or at least they use the money to redo their changing rooms, which have not been renovated since I worked there 10 years ago.

We have issued a full refund for the program and have confirmed that the refund was processed today. We usually have rave reviews on our swimming lessons so we apologize for the lack of communication and for the cancelation of lessons. We are making adjustments to better serve our participants and we hope to better serve you in the future.

Over the years we have made several renovations to the facility including renovations to the locker rooms, gymnasium, kids zone, wellness center and community room. With the flood of 2016 causing more than 1.5 million dollars in damage to our facility, as a non-profit organization, it has been a challenge to rebuild but we are excited about the progress we have made. Negative experience: I wouldn’t Recommend the ymca summer to a roach. Don’t send your kids here. Lack of communication is one of the strong points at this place. Don’t mention the kids watching the kids and half of the staff are HIGH! Don’t send your kids here! I will admit that some of the stuff is good but it’s the Camp director that lacks the the communication and they have to listen to him.

With the weekly newsletter for parents, we had lots of positive feedback but there is always room to improve, and we will do that in the future. Our staff go through very thorough background checks and drug screenings in addition to completing more than 40 hours of childcare training to ensure our staff are providing quality care for the children in our program. Fantastic experience: I love my YMCA CB Pennington location. Great professionals, friendly staff and an awesome instructor/trainer in Lisa. I take several of her classes every week and feel great. She has worked with me in the gym as well with a regimen for upper and lower body. She is the best in the business. If you want to start off your new year getting healthy and in shape this is the place. A great group of people who creates a warm friendly place to socialize and exercise.
Fantastic experience: The Y is one of my most favorite places to be! My husband and I have lost 190lbs combined and we couldn't have done it without the Y. The friendly staff and knowledgeable class instructors make losing weight and getting healthy...FUN!!!♀️
Negative experience: Update: Changes in the summer program overall made it no longer ideal for my son. While the y probably had its reasons to split the grade bands by gender, the model did not fit. Bullying and other issues influenced my son to want to take a break more than participate. Switched to Brec this past summer and he loved it. 2021 Review: Great place for summer camp. Whole staff was communicative and worked with my son. We will definitely be back next year.

Fantastic experience: I made this gym my home gym even though it's all the way across town. It's very low population so there's plenty of machines opened for our usage. The ladies involved in the child care are always very kind, courteous, vivacious and we appreciate them watching our 4-month infant son while we catch a good workout. We love the other locations but they're just so busy during the rush hours it's hard to get the machine that we want. If for some reason the CB Pennington location is closed we might just withdrawal our membership. Thank you CB Pennington employees. Thank you all YMC employees for maintaining such a cleanly positive environment.

During the summer months we do have children enjoying our summer camp activities but they do not utilize the workout area or group exercise studio when classes are taking place. I have made life long friends with other people who use the facility. The workouts I do have help to keep my bone density at a above National level and at my age that is very important. Give It a try

Fantastic experience: I really only use the pool currently but the entire staff is friendly and work hard to resolve any issues I’ve had. The lifeguArds are professional and caring about the folks swimming. I would encourage anyone to join and use these facilities.
Fantastic experience: I love the group exercise classes and child care provided for them. My daughter loves KidsFit, and we enjoy that the indoor pool is open year round.

Fantastic experience: The US Masters team is amazing!!!! The coach is amazing also! If you can’t swim, he’ll have you challenging Michael Phelps in a year... you won’t win, but it’s still gonna be fun!!! We went from swimming 500 yards an hour to over a mile in less 4 months. Lots of fun!!!!

Negative experience: I furious and very upset at the announcement that the indoor pool is being closed. That pool is the reason i pay dues to the YMCA. As a Senior, I could take advantage of FREE membership at several other health centers. In my opinion, the indoor pool at this branch is the nicest of all the Y's pools. There is no other like it. The YMCA, its board and administration should be ashamed as the fiscal mismanagement that caused this closure. Continuing to build new facilities instead of maintaining this superb pool is wrong in so many ways! I will drop my membership.
Betsy, we understand your disappointment. We are disappointed as well. The reason for the closure, as stated in the email, is that the Y has not rebounded as we hoped since the flood. We love the indoor pool as well, but we are unable to afford to operate it at our current membership base. Many of the seniors who participate in the water aerobics class are moving to a new low-impact, land based class that will be offered at the same time in the branch. This decision is based on sustainability of the operation, not on a capital decision. We are sorry to lose you as a Y member and hope to serve you again in the future.
Positive experience: It was very good but the councelers make children do plank and pushups as punishment

We do incorporate daily exercise into our summer camp program, though it is not punishment, they are to keep kids active and healthy. We usually use sports activities to keep kids active and moving and sometimes we do actual exercises. We will continue to think of fun new ways to incorporate exercise into camp.

Positive experience: Friendly and helpful staff, good hours of operation, variety of activities and reasonably well maintained considering the property is still recovering from the flood damage in 2106.
