Our comment from FitFit United States about Movement Baker:

Movement Baker is a popular climbing gym located in Denver, known for its friendly atmosphere and diverse climbing options. Visitors frequently praise the welcoming nature of the staff and the variety of climbing routes available. The gym features:

  • Friendly and knowledgeable staff: Many guests highlight the helpfulness of the employees, particularly in guiding new climbers.
  • Great climbing experience: The facility offers well-maintained bouldering and top-rope areas that cater to climbers of various skill levels.
  • Inclusive community: Regular climbers appreciate the camaraderie among members, enhancing the overall experience at the gym.
  • Varied routes: Many climbers enjoy the regularly updated routes that challenge both beginners and seasoned climbers.

However, some challenges are noted regarding the gym:

  • Overcrowding: Several visitors reported that the gym gets excessively crowded during peak hours, particularly between 5 PM and 8 PM, making it difficult to find routes and park.
  • Parking issues: Many users expressed frustration with the limited parking available, often compounded by nearby homeless encampments.
  • Staff consistency: While many staff members receive praise, there are occasional reports of inconsistent communication and unhelpful behavior from specific employees.
  • High membership costs: Some users feel that the gym's membership fees are high compared to other local gyms, particularly given the conditions mentioned.

Overall, while Movement Baker provides an enjoyable climbing environment, potential members should consider visiting outside high-traffic times and be prepared for tight parking conditions.

Negative experience: DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP!!! They will continue to charge for YEARS and will never respond to your requests to cancel (which can only be done by email!?!?)

Fantastic experience: Very warm and welcoming to newbies and long time climbers. I'm now a regular.

David Palalay 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Very nice facility. But I have to shoutout David Medina. His expertise and professionalism are next to none. He demonstrates a passion for the climbing community that is often lost and overlooked. I think critics of his demeanor are misinterpreted. Most accidents that occur in a climbing gym could easily be prevented if dangerous habits are addressed. No one likes being told that what they're doing is potentially risky and it is a difficult conversation to have. Climbing has grown exponentially in the last 20 years and with that comes change in techniques and equipment. We have to trust our climbing professionals to help us keep up the best standard possible so that we can continue to climb as risk-free as possible.

Austin Edwards 11 months ago

Negative experience: How does a climbing gym have sub 4 star rating? Well it’s just another rebranded corporation to appear as a local gym. Overpriced and taking advantage of climbers. Corporate takeover is ruining America. Go to a different gym that is actually local, stop sending your money out of state…

Negative experience: I have been coming here since the opening. Recently, they changed the expectation that we have to shuffle through our bags to show our belay tags at check-in (instead of just looking at the computer which shows the same info). One staff member in particular has taken this as an opportunity to boarder-line harness many of the members. Note* My struggle was with the same staff member as Amy’s comment. Seems to be one staff, maybe not systemic.

Negative experience: It has gotten to the point that instead of enjoying the rest of my evening relaxing I am writing a review. David Medina was the staff member that got onto a power trip because he found my asking questions bothersome and he retaliated. So I am laughing writing this because it is just so absurd what happened and unwarranted. Most people would have listened to my questions and apologized if it didn't make sense. Not David, he took my belay privileges for the night. I asked questions, and this was NOT ok with him. I followed every rule he threw my direction, I voiced my frustration in the lack of consistency in policy, I stayed calm, I did as he said, I was frustrated by his ego but put mine aside, and David really didn't like my asking for him to help me understand. His problem with me was clear. I didn't behave the way he wanted me to react, which was to shut up, do what he says and don't ask questions. So what happened: When I checked in he asked me to show my belay tag, and I showed him the tag on the harness that was given to me yesterday at Englewood. It was a temp tag because I am leaving for a month to Morocco and had a different harness. I had set my stuff down and went up to talk to him about the tag. I am belay certified, he saw that. He told me to go get my temp tag so he could then laminate me a new one tag for today. I said hold up a second and explain this to me. I asked for an explanation of why the tag that was handed to me yesterday somehow is not ok with him today. Why did he see it necessary to trash the one I had and make another one, its wasteful and I have a tag on me a staff member handed me from the other gym. After sharing how I thought the inconsistency in policy was aggravating. I signed the new tag and walked away while I thought he was going to laminate me a second card. I sent my partner up to grab a new card and gave him the one from yesterday to give to David, while I put on my harness (my partner was already ready to climb) . My partner returned to me and said it isn't just me that David was on a power trip with. He said he handed David the old tag for a new one, David said that he decided he is pulling my lead privileges for the day because he thought I just walked away to climb anyways. What I walked away to do what you told me to do and the proof is my partner is handing you the old one and asking for a new one . My partner now was thinking what is going on and asked David to explain this to him, which David puffs up his chest because he saw the questions as unacceptable. Not at all crazy for my partner and I to be shocked by his decision and ask for his reasoning. He was taking a serious action and we were doing as he asked and nothing wrong. We left the gym pretty thrown and upset and went to climb elsewhere. Recognizing I did not do anything that warranted pulling my tag I returned requesting one more run down as to why did he take my privileges hoping to leave this matter with some self reflection on David's part, and to give him the chance to say, "ok I might have overreacted'. Afterall he is young. Some guy named Andrew who didn't even witness David and I interacting said they didn't like how my partner responded when grabbing the new tag and they have the right to pull tags whenever the want. So now my tag got pulled because he didn't like my partner requesting an explanation? Asking questions isn't rude but he didn't like that. Needless to say we climbed at another gym. I have been a member since before movement was movement and this was a major failure on their staffs ability to manage client communication. The kid took the questions personal instead of for what it was, and retaliated. It is that simple

Negative experience: The gym itself is fine, routes are varied. But it's way past capacity. Don't bother coming between 5pm-8pm on weekdays, you can't park and you're taking turns with 5 people for the same part of the wall.

Adam Martin 1 year ago

Positive experience: Pretty crowded on the Tuesday night I went, but plenty of climbs to accomodate.

Positive experience: Nice selection, but the staff doesn’t do much to make sure people are being safe. And, as an aside, Roger is creepy

Matt Reeser 1 year ago

Negative experience: Movement use to be cool but I'm not a fan of your new grading system for the routes. Please bring back the middle grades, it's not granular enough. UPDATE: I would like to echo the recent reviews regarding the belay tag policy. I am tired of being harassed to see my belay tag, sometimes multiple times a session. I have even been yelled at from across the gym. Seriously, please reconsider this ridiculous policy. It's wasteful and redundant.

Negative experience: I was a member of both earth treks and movement many years ago before the big acquisition and I took a long hiatus because of an injury. Coming back I’m disappointed. The setting between gyms is incredibly inconsistent on grades and enjoyability. The gyms dirty aside from the new centennial location, but because of the setting I never go there. And they are often cramped and hot. Because movement has a monopoly on climbing gyms in the area, if you want to sport climb it’s unfortunately the only option in town and because of this they have the power to control all gym pricing across the city (and it’s too high). I also just took one of the worst yoga classes I’ve ever experienced at baker. Forgetting sides, boring flow (if you would call it that) no focus on breath, no room for personal modifications, and it was supposed to be a power flow and there really wasn’t much of either. Their membership price is so high, if they focused on maintaining each gym rather than focusing on expanding and increasing rates for no real improvements (it’s giving greedy), it would be a lot more enjoyable for everyone.

Fantastic experience: I would give this place 1000 stars!! We wanted to climb on our road trip, and this gym was a delightful treat! Great boulders, fun top rope, something for everyone. Gleaming locker rooms, and friendly friendly staff! I kind of want to travel more just to come back and say hi. One of our climbers had a breakthrough on the wall, learned some new stuff, and they genuinely cared and were enthusiastic. LOVE THIS GYM!!

Fantastic experience: Visiting Denver and stopped in on a quiet weekday with kids to climb. Ropes have auto belay and carabiner, all we needed were our shoes and harnesses. Super friendly and safety conscious staff, fun bouldering cave, and lots of inclusive options for beginners and kids (and some inspiring advanced routes!) Vibe was chill would definitely come back next time we are in town!

Rob Pizem 1 year ago

Positive experience: Clean and busy. Only climbed routes, felt like most routes were the same holds same moves. Didn't look forward to climbs until the 12+ and up, then they got interesting. Training area looked solid.

Positive experience: I’ve had such a love-hate relationship with this gym over the years. Yes, this place is a major scene and can be incredibly obnoxious at times. The bathrooms definitely need work and this isn’t the cleanest gym, but regardless, it’s truly one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to. The setting is consistently phenomenal and they always have harder climbs with varying styles. It’s extremely hard to find a gym with multiple options for the 5.13 range, and they always have challenging routes that are accessible for shorter (5’1) climbers. This is the gym where I first fell in love with climbing nearly a decade ago and whenever I’m in Colorado it’s always a positive experience when I go back.

Fantastic experience: Great gym

Andrew Cope 1 year ago

Positive experience: Staff was great very welcoming, $30 for a day pass is a bit steep, the waviers you have to sign to walk through the door are a bit jarring, mentions death, maiming by injury and waving your rights essentially 5-6 times, the weight room section really only has Olympic equipment but no platforms, I came at the suggestion of a friend and the website says they have a full weight room (wouldn’t really say it’s accurate) also about as diverse as a bag of marshmallows, it’s important to me to see people of different backgrounds and nationalities in a “community space” it was clean but really is a very specialized “gym.” No parking and a pain to get there with all the construction nearby if I was white and climbed a lot, didn’t care about parking and only needed squat racks and dumbbells this would be the perfect place. I didn’t have a bad time and again staff was great but not really worth a month membership equivalent to a vasa or 24hr fitness for a day pass

Fantastic experience: Andrew at the front desk helped me out tremendously figuring out membership options...give him a raise ? I love this gym, it has many options & benefits, I'm happy to be here.

Negative experience: Couldn’t boulder for a month because they were putting in new mats, once they are finally installed they are insanely hard twisting my ankles like crazy now and they have big gaps where if you fall off a climb you could fall onto concrete, prolly not getting a membership again next month

Negative experience: The new mats in the bouldering area are so hard. I guess ankle injury is not one of your main concerns

Positive experience: I’m writing on behalf of my friend Zac. He used to love coming here but then he realized how busy it got there. It started a couple of months ago, right around the rate hike. He’d come every week. Sometimes even twice a week to Boulder. We all made fun of him and then he stopped going as much. My friend Rudy and I go now together and without zac. Sometimes Kevin comes with us too. But we don’t invite Zac anymore. He just likes to boulder.

Lily D 1 year ago

Negative experience: Expensive, overcrowded and pretentious. I was miserable and put in a bad mood any time I came here because of how crowded it was

Josh Gibson 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: This is one of my favorite areas to go climbing after I'm done working at Wheat Ridge. They have two levels of climbing arrange of small to tall borders. And a traverse wall which is perfect for sport/top rope climbers who are afraid of heights.

Wesley Kelley 1 year ago

Negative experience: You have to pay for shoe rental on top of over 100$ a month for membership

Gregg Hardie 1 year ago

Negative experience: Climbing is good, parking is atrocious. Homeless encampment right outside takes up a bunch of spots and makes parking on that side uncomfortable. Sometimes takes me 10 full laps around the place to find a spot, if you're taking a class allow 15 mins at least for parking

Sarah Lessner 1 year ago

Negative experience: This is the worst of the movement locations in my opinion. They have the fewest options for bouldering and top rope climbing and it seems the least well kept and clean. I can also echo the sentiments of most other reviews that it is an absolute nightmare to go here weekday evenings. I avoid it at all costs. It seems like it's busy all the time it's even pretty busy at 10am on a weekday sometimes. They need a cap on membership or some kind of solution. I hate that they're forming a monopoly in the area and wish there were better options in town.

Becca Belotti 1 year ago

Negative experience: Definitely not the best Movement location in the Denver metro. The parking lot (if you can call it that) is a disaster with a few encampments surrounding it. The staff were fine, but not as friendly and welcoming as the staff at the Englewood location. The bouldering wall is crowded and the holds have seen better days. There is also not a ton of storage (unless I just missed it). I can't speak to the yoga or fitness areas, but I likely won't be returning to climb.

Tylor Savage 1 year ago

Negative experience: Honestly, I enjoyed coming here at the beginning. The staff is very nice and helpful. However, they keep jacking up monthly rates with no improvements. I'm guessing its to fund the one being built in centennial. There is no regulation of how many people are allowed in at once and that leads to extremely crowded bouldering areas. Only the intro climbing classes are included in the membership price, even though they advertise that fitness, yoga AND climbing classes are free to members. The parking is an absolute nightmare. The lot is nowhere big enough for the amount of people allowed in. For a corporate owned gym they have quite a few things to improve.

Angelina Kalianda 1 year ago

Positive experience: Too crowded and parking is insane during rush hours. They keep increasing the membership. However, I'm still a member because they've bought out Earth Trek and I'm not closed to Spot. So pretty much no choice.

David silva 1 year ago

Negative experience: So many people go there I can't even park in front of my house if it wasn't for that I'd give it a 5 star review

Tess Elation 1 year ago

Negative experience: Look, I love climbing at this gym but my review will stay at 1 star until movement starts responding about this issue and there can be some sort of remedy. If you’re reading this and agree please join me. People should know what’s going on here. When I signed up for membership again a month ago, after taking time off for an injury…I wasn’t aware that they would raise their prices the next month… or that this is a trend they play out about every 6 months. Apparently because they are expanding (in my opinion too fast) and are adding another gym in Centennial. They are letting the existing gyms deteriorate, neglecting to even change light bulbs and decreasing pay for route setters so that’s going down hill too. They aren’t paying their staff more and they even let go of staff for fitness and yoga classes in Chicago to pay for a gym in CO that those clients can’t even visit. Oh yeah and the new gym is super close to 2-3 existing movement gyms?! This is starting to look like a predatory monopoly! Absolutely not ok. Further complaints I have are that the lockers and towel dispensers are mostly broken. I was not aware that this was the kind of behavior my membership fees would be supporting and I’m not happy. A lot of people aren’t happy. Do better movement… rn you get a BIG for putting profit over people… not only regarding your clientele but your staff too. Shame…

Hey The 1 year ago

Negative experience: Just my two cents and no ill-will to any employees: Movement as a CORPORATE entity has no place in the community, their actions have continually shown they are in it for the money. Support your local independently owned climbing gyms.

Negative experience: Yoga policy here is absolutely downright insulting. Makes me sick to stomach that they treat customers like trash if they walk in ONE minute late. Worst zen experience of my life. Highly do NOT recommend.

Fantastic experience: My second-favorite Movement location! The setting is on point here. Clean gym. Love the bouldering too. It's small but really well set. Very intuitive, flowy movement all around.

Carl Swenson 1 year ago

Negative experience: Rude and inconsiderate staff. Drove for over an hour to get here and rather than instruct my partner (who is new) they suggested “maybe we come back another time”

Thomas Schefer 1 year ago

Positive experience: The route setting is great and the lead wall probably the best of any of the Denver area Movement gyms. The bouldering area is small, as is the fitness area. The gym gets extremely crowded and getting a lead rope can be very difficult, with wait times of 1 hour not uncommon in the winter months. During such times, bringing your own rope doesn't necessarily guarantee you can climb, since so many people bring their own ropes you'll still be waiting for climbs.

Fantastic experience: Came to Denver from Texas to visit my son and he brought me to (t)his gym;) we came to a yoga class and I was pleasantly surprised. The yoga instructor has some good decompressing moves great directions and encouragement and by the time we finished I felt great!

Fantastic experience: Everyone here is totally good vibes, the staff are knowledgeable and willing to share tips and tricks, though I prefer the gym area at alternate locations.

Vishnu 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Extremely good setting. They use a good amount of volumes in their setting and they are used very well. Their cave is beautiful and has the coolest boulders in the gym. Their head setter sets some of the coolest climbs in the gym. Very experienced team of route setters. Keep up the good work

Amanda Liford 2 years ago

Positive experience: Good central location, and the routes are switched up fairly often. However, the bouldering section is quite small in comparison to other locations (I'm thinking of Englewood). Almost half of the rope side of the gym is a huge lead wall, so top roping can be difficult in peak hours.

Lindsey Pesci 2 years ago

Negative experience: When will Movement gyms stop being so crowded? All day but especially 5-8 PM on weekdays you are touching shoulders with everyone it’s literally packed like sardines and you have to wait in line for any route. Doesn’t help that the lead climbers have their own wall but choose to take over the top rope area and block off entire sections of wall, so the top-ropers have no where to go. Parking is a nightmare where you are forced to either wait 30+ minutes circling the lot & fight people for a spot, or park illegally in the grass/curb/sidewalk. These issues are only getting worse and it feels like dystopian hell.

Ashley Davis 2 years ago

Negative experience: I only boulder, and this gym is my least favorite of all the Movements in the area because the bouldering area here is so lacking. Even if you come during non-peak early morning hours, it gets really tight over in that section really fast. Just doesn’t seem to be their priority to make that section the best it could be, like even if the space is small you could improve the setting, mats, and cleanliness. I now only go to this location when I want to take a yoga or fitness class, or use the fitness equipment, since it is the closest to my house. I guess if you’re more into roped climbing, it’s probably good for you, but for me I’ll stick to Englewood and RiNo.

Drew Durant 2 years ago

Negative experience: The gym is great but their customer service online is absolutely atrocious and extremely frustrating. I’ve sent multiple emails over the last two weeks and still no response. It’s a simple fix The staff on sight can’t help with any billing or membership issues. I can’t give them a good review because of the complete lack of communication and customer service.

Liam Hogan 2 years ago

Positive experience: Kinda stopped going to the gym bc it’s impossible to park here now with parking two blocks away and they’re get rid of daycare even tho fees are 100 dollars a month. I will say they have the best setting of all the movement gyms

Paula Velez 2 years ago

Negative experience: They went corporate and now it sucks. Movement has become more expensive and less appealing. It's impossible to get a hold of someone to manage your membership as they took away that power from their front desk employees, now it takes WEEKS for them to get back to you about anything. The facilities are way dirtier than they were before they went corporate, the bathrooms' trash is always overflowing, gym floor is very dirty and their vents are gross. You can no longer get $2 blocks of chalk, obviously you have to spend a minimum of $15 for a small bag. They took away the climbing rating system (1-5 star rating) and now have to download their app to look at this..??? Their employees are always great and I hope they are getting compensated for their work. Very crowded all the time.

Fantastic experience: what a lovely place to climb!! chill and friendly staff, plus great environment and energy! Met lots of new friends here and climbers around are always friendly! Gets super busy at peak times but climbing before or after those peak times is the sweet spot! All the movement gyms are great!

Evan Miller 2 years ago

Negative experience: The bouldering section here is just, NOT GREAT. Like, it's still a climbing gym and all, but I don't understand why the bouldering area was designed in such a way that EVERYONE is clumped so closely together. There's barely any room anywhere during any of the peak-ish hours. 5PM to 8PM on a weekday is truly terrible. Can't speak for the ropes section. Just not a good bouldering gym at all.

Negative experience: Ick. For almost a $100 a month they could at least vacuum…

Fantastic experience: Very nice gym. Can get packed at peak hours but everyone is friendly. Route setters are great, and they cycle through new routes on a regular basis so there's new routes all the time.

Negative experience: The weekend staff have horrible taste in music. You ask them to change to something that isn’t blues music only for them to play folk music. If I wanted a lazy weekend drinking, I could do that at home.

Positive experience: It's a good gym with awesome staff, but it's tight and crowded. It feels like there is always someone climbing on top of you.

Positive experience: I used to top-rope on the regular ~10 years ago and needed a refresh! Intro to Ropes and Intro to Bouldering we're both really helpful, as was the free tour (which gets you a free intro ropes course, btw). Still new to this gym but the facilities are great, the visitors are nice, and the staff has been really really friendly. Getting into climbing/bouldering is intimidating as you can't really practice in private... The course instructors are clearly passionate about climbing; they are engaging and personable, and really helpful/patient in sharing their knowledge with beginners. Biggest con here is parking, as the other reviews have stated. Even with my tiny car I struggle to find a spot. And the gym gets pretty damn busy at times convenient to my sched. I'd prefer to not have twelve people watch me fail out of V1s... Will update as I gain some experience and confidence.

Its a bit pricey but when you take in mind you have access to everything in the gym including the yoga classes the spinning clases the weight room and everything else, this gym is next level. Negative experience: Update: Save your money and go somewhere else. They continue to raise prices while packing the gym full of after school programs run by coaches that encourage dangerous behavior. Climb at your own risk. Wonderful gym, but it is always packed. The membership fees are really high, but a bunch of people seem happy to pay it. Route setting is really good, always fresh, and consistent. If the fees weren’t nearly $100 a month, five stars.

Fantastic experience: Although it’s one of the smaller gyms in the area, it’s still quite spacious with a large top-floor workout area with a yoga room, first floor seating and boulder area with various wall types, and a lower-level sport climbing area. Locker rooms are nice and clean with showers. The waiting area has nice seating and a climbing gear shop. It gets very crowded after 5:00pm, but I didn’t have a problem grabbing a fitness machine then bouldering around 6:30pm on a Tuesday.

Fantastic experience: Great plastic pulling just outside the city. This gym is a bit smaller than the other Movements in the area. The sets are still a lot of fun and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything's always kept very clean. In addition to the climbing there's training and finger boards, basic cardio, barbell, and dumbbell equipment, and the front desk has snacks and some other basic merch. Parking is a bit a hectic during peak hours but usually not a problem.

Fantastic experience: I bouldered for 30 minutes. Routesetting is 10/10 A+++ enjoyed the problems right up to my grade level, and saw some projects that made me wish this was my home gym. Everyone was super friendly and chatty, I made friends before my warm up was done. This gym brand bought all the Planet Granite gyms in the bay area, so if you've filled a waiver at any of those gyms, or any other Movement's, you won't need a new waiver here. My top rope cert also transfered. The facility is beautiful, all appears new including the holds. The only drawback was the price of the day pass which was kind of high at $25.

Movement Baker

Thanks Eliot, I passed along your comments to our setting team. Hope to see you again soon!

Kimberly Vierczhalek 3 years ago

Positive experience: Love this gym and the staff are incredible! I really enjoy the routes and the instructors and desk are wonderful. Unfortunately the layout of the gym causes it to smell really really bad like feet. I recognize this is a minor issue, but when you’re unable to complete climbs because of the smell it becomes a problem. All the other movement gyms do not have this issue and I’m assuming that’s because this building is older and not as ventilated, I hope this can be resolved with garage doors or some other form of air circulation. Love this gym just wish it didn’t smell so bad.

Movement Baker

Hey Kimberly, thanks for writing in. I will talk with our facilities team and see if there is anything we can do about the odor you are talking about.

Melissa Byrne 3 years ago

Negative experience: Been climbing at Movement Baker for almost 4 years now. I have loved climbing here. However, the parking situation has become INSANE. Super aggressive people in the parking lot. Nowhere to park. People driving super fast through the lot to the point I’ve been close to being hit as a pedestrian or even trying to just back out of my space. None of these issues have been addressed with members or mentioned on social media. Something needs to be addressed ASAP.

Movement Baker

Hi Melissa, thanks for your comment and thoughts. Hopefully as the weather warms up more members will be biking and walking into the gym opening up some spaces and with construction next door it has been a bit of a challenge. We will get some signage up about safe driving in the lot and monitor the best we can.

Positive experience: I have tried joining the membership several times but each time the website checkout is down and does not work. Please fix!

Fantastic experience: Place is bigger than it might appear from the outside. Bouldering area has good quantity and variety of problems but maybe not the most interesting “terrain”. Men’s locker room was clean. They have free loaner locks which I found very useful. Front desk staff was fantastic. Nice table seating adjacent the bouldering and some amphitheater-style seating down near the top rope and lead climbing area. Spotted a selection of fingerboards above the bouldering area.

Ben Nelson 3 years ago

Negative experience: Came to the Gym today to find no lead ropes, no signup, no e-mail prior to warn climbers that they retired lead ropes. Time to start keeping up with your newsletters and start offering a discount to members until you get a new supply back in.

Movement Baker

Hi Ben, we are still waiting on our new shipment of lead ropes as they are delayed. We will try to continue to inform our members about any and all changes.

Positive experience: One of several of the Movement gyms in the Denver area, Movement Baker offers plenty of top rope and lead climbing, a training area and gym equipment, and a medium bouldering area. Parking here can be challenging during peak hours, as well as finding an open route as the gym is quite busy from 5-8 pm during the week. The bouldering area is medium sized with a small cave area, but I would rate it as the smallest and least preferred bouldering of all the four Movement gyms. Decent bathrooms and lockers and a few places where you could sit and work, though again I’d say the other three gyms rank better in this aspect too. A nice option of you have a membership, but I’d pick RiNo or any of the other gyms if you’re bouldering. Climbing is similar at Englewood and Golden.

Matthew Straughn 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: The setting on the boulder wall at this gym is consistently very good through all grade ranges. Not sure why the Rino setting is so poor in comparison. Favorite gym in the Denver area. I have seen an unusual number of people with poor belay technique at this gym..maybe something the staff could keep a better eye on

Caity Curtis 3 years ago

Negative experience: Facilities were decent, but I wish I read the reviews here about the rude staff and ridiculous belay testing policy. I’ve belayed at other gyms a couple times, and did fine. Here though - staff was elitist, rude, and condescending. Staff tests on actions not supposed to be included in belay test and mocks you if you don’t know how, refusing to provide any teaching. Not a welcoming place to learn for beginners.

Movement Baker

Hi Sophie, sorry about your experience at the gym with the testing. Please let us know if you would like to come back and test again and give us another shot. We strive to be a gym for all levels and hope to see you again

Christopher Garau 3 years ago

Negative experience: 1/17/22: Charged me for a day pass. Failed me out of the belay. Did not let me practice and then retest. Had no options for beginners classes. Did not let me climb. Would not refund me. I paid for a day and got nothing but a rude girl. Not a good environment for beginners. Was very elitist. Would avoid this place for new climbers.

Movement Baker

Hey Christopher, sorry to hear about your experience here. We would be happy to make this right so you can give climbing a try, you will need to pass the belay test if you are going to be top-rope climbing but we can also get you set up on the bouldering wall. Shoot me an email if you would like to come back and give us another shot at [email protected]

Positive experience: Good place to rock climb, but they are only open until 6 pm on Sundays. Seems silly to have it open till 11 on weekdays, then 6 pm on a prime day like sunday to go rock climbing.

Movement Baker

Thank you Ian for your feedback. We understand it can be challenging when we have different close times on our weekend days. We do close at 6P on Sundays to allow some staff gathering time on occasion and also to help our team members rest up before the week starts. Thank you again for your feedback and please let us know if you have any further feedback for us.

Negative experience: Canceled my membership 2 months ago and have just received a charge for 311 dollars this place is a rip off and they will continue billing your card I payed for a family package and even confirmed over emails my account was to be cancelled yet they are still charging me. Absolute pieces of trash trying to rip off anyone they can!

Movement Baker

Hey Lucas, we would be happy to take a look at your cancellation request and timing. I will email you today so we can get this process started.

Positive experience: Came here for a competition. It's a huge gym and there's some cool areas with exercise equipment as well as some snacks to buy. The routes were decent but they certainly could be a lot better, and I also noticed that a lot of the top rope routes were last added November 1 which means they're not changing the routes often at all. But it is a huge place and pretty well maintained -- it was super clean and the staff was ready to help.

Tim Stock 3 years ago

Negative experience: I've been looking to change gyms for awhile now and I figured I'd give Baker a shot Sunday 12/12 around noon. As far as the gym itself goes I felt it was pretty standard climbing gym. It has a relatively small sized bouldering area and the ropes area had a decent amount of routes. The holds were very polished and the setting on boulders/top rope was pretty mediocre. Unfortunately, I'm unable to comment on lead due to the ineptitude and unprofessionalism of the staff (I will not be including staff members names in this review). Around 1:00 PM I went to the front desk (with it's three staff members present) and asked to do a lead check. I was told that none of them were certified to do a check and the one staff member that could was teaching a class. I left my name with the three employees and was told they'd announce my name when the certified staff was available. I was dumbfounded to hear that on a weekend day only one staff member was able to do a lead check, but I was okay with it and went back to boulder. After about 45 minutes of bouldering I checked in with the front desk just to see if there was an update. This is when the unprofessionalism of the staff began to spike. One of the staff members snapped at me that "We have your name down and we'll call you when she's available." Then another staff member remarked that "You know next time you come to the gym you should call ahead and see if someone is available to do a lead check (I was extremely baffled by this suggestion)." This is when I just started to get extremely annoyed, but I was polite and went back to climbing. After a roped route or two I heard an announcement and went to go to the front desk and check. At this check-in I was told they forgot about calling me up for a lead check and the ONE certified person to do lead checks was busy doing top rope checks at the moment. On top of that they told me after she finished the belay check she would be taking a break and it would be awhile until I could do my lead check. I was again told I'd be called up when she was available. At this point I had truly given up on thinking I'd be able to lead that day, but I figured I could do the lead check at least. It was now around 3:00pm and I began bouldering again. I ended up climbing for about 30 minutes more and never received an announcement. On my way out of the gym around 3:30 I asked at the desk again if I could do my lead check. This time I was told, "Oh, I'm sorry she's busy doing a top rope check right now." Flabbergasted I left the gym. I don't normally write reviews, but this experience left a terrible taste in my mouth. I've never been to a climbing gym where a majority of the staff present is unable to do a lead check and I've never been told to "call ahead" to make sure someone is present to do a lead check. I understand staffing can be challenging, but this was just terrible. Finally, I know that working in a climbing gym can get busy and hectic (I've worked in a climbing gym as both a front desk staff and as a middle manager); however, that is no excuse to give a customer attitude and completely forget about them multiple times. Needless to say, I won't be returning to Movement Baker anytime soon.

Movement Baker

Hey Tim, we are sorry to hear about your day here at Baker. We have addressed some of the issues with staff and hope to be able to give our lead tests in a more organized way. We hope you give us another shot and we will see you again.

Fantastic experience: I'm new to climbing and just joined Movement last month, really for the bouldering in RINO, but have quickly found top rope climbing to be way more fun! The route setting is great, changes often, and I continually hear it's the best of all the big gyms in Denver. I 100% agree with other reviewers that the arena style seating makes it so much fun to watch others climb and the vibe is really friendly and inclusive. Plus, the staff is great - helpful with testing, questions, etc.

Movement Baker

Thanks Andrew, that's great you have been coming to both locations. We will see you soon!

Fantastic experience: Love the walls ,the community , the people and the awesome yoga staff. Place has everything except a sauna like the ones in Cali.

Fantastic experience: Great climbing gym! I was in from out of town so I did a day pass and was able to get in some great climbing! Awesome walls, super friendly staff! They had plenty of great beginner routes, V0-2s, which is what I spent my time on. I was glad I dropped by to get a climb in!

Movement Baker

Thanks for stopping by Nikko! We hope to see you again down the road.

Fantastic experience: I've had nothing but good experiences with Movement Baker, or any of their affiliated locations. They really seem to be a team of good people! The fact that they have yoga and weights in addition to the climbing equipment, plus the ability to go do a variety of gyms across the state and beyond, makes this a really great value. The reservation system during Covid times has been effective for me, and they are very reasonable about the policies. I'm excited to continue going here for the foreseeable future!

Movement Baker

We so appreciate your kind words, John! In our humble opinion, the Covid precautions are helping to make the member experience a good as possible during interesting times so we're glad its working out well for you. See you in the gym soon!

Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism I've been climbing at Movement for a little over a year and have loved every moment of it! The routes are dynamic, creative, and I never get bored. With the help of the amazing community and the staff (SHANE!!), I have built up my confidence and went from top-roping 5.8 to onsighting 5.10d on lead!

Kristie Burke 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: The route setters here are creative, dynamic and always evolving at their position. Large, tall walls for both lead and toprope. Must be able to pass lead test at a 5.9 route with a fall. Yoga offerings by some of the best instructors in Denver! Locker room with showers (soap and towels available) The community here is genuine and not at all elitist (even though so many of the BEST climbers practice here). Peak times can be difficult to park, but always room in a class or at the wall!

Fantastic experience: Great gym that I always get a good workout at. They’ve also done their best dealing with constantly evolving COVID situation and which I appreciate.

Fantastic experience: I love Movement as a place to clim, this facility, Baker, is more geared towards rope belaying than boulder.
