Altitudes Gym: Opinions
Negative experience: Bipolar owner. Had me set up an appointment just to tell me that they have no room for a new member. To be honest this whole town is worthless.
Fantastic experience: I was able to get in touch with Kelly with short notice while in town for a wedding. The instructions were easy and clear. Price was great. Gym was super clean and very organized. I’d highly recommend and hope to go back next time I’m in town.
Fantastic experience: Signed up today and met Kelly the owner. Don't know what the bad reviews are about because he's a great guy and very kind and he was a top bodybuilder. All he asks is that you follow the gym rules and some people just don't want to so just know The gym is for people who want to work out, not sit around playing with your phone and yes he gives you a key but that doesn't mean you can just do whatever the hell you want in there. I love it. Old school Vince Gironda type gym for serious people
Negative experience: Kelly was extremely discourteous and disrespectful when it comes to treating people trying to PAY to use his gym for one day. This is a type of guy you want to stay away from at all costs. He definitely gets no play because his mangina quivers whenever people just want to get a work out from out of state. Bro has not and will never feel the touch of a woman.
Fantastic experience: For a small town private gym this is a great location, they had everything you rlly need to get a good workout. The owner was really kind to let me workout even though the gym wasn’t yet open to the public.
Fantastic experience: Clean gym and all equipment needed to get fit. Old equipment for sure but functional. Only thing it’s missing is a mill style stair master, which would make it a six star gym.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, real old-school feel. Nothing fancy but you don't need anything fancy to lift or get a good workout. The owner Kelly is super cool and vibe is great. Highly recommend.
Positive experience: It has everything someone needs to hit all muscle groups and is rarely busy. The owner is a good man looking after his business, simply that. Negative comments are either self absorbed misunderstanding or intentionally misleading falsehoods. Respect earns respect, and I have only been treated with the utmost respect at this clean, profesional environment.
Fantastic experience: I love it to workout at it doesn't get to crowded that the good part but i also love the new machines there
Fantastic experience: Good mountain gym, has everything you need, except oxygen. You have to make your own.
Fantastic experience: Altitudes is a great gym for a small town community, that has everything you need equipment wise. To stay healthy and fit, with weekly spin classes and reasonable operating hours. There are some varying changes with COVID restrictions. But overall I get all I need and more from this nice little localy owned gym. With an owner that works well with people, as long as the posted rules are being followed. Monthly memberships only, so if you go more than a couple times a week, it's more than worth it!!
Fantastic experience: I like it.
Fantastic experience: I travel a lot, so - by way of comparison - Altitudes is NOT Gold's Gym or LA Fitness, nor would I want it to be. For a town this size, though, Altitudes boasts a LOT of space and an impressive variety of equipment. (In these respects it compares quite favorably with Anytime Fitness gyms that I've visited in CO, TX and AZ.) It's busiest from 4 pm to 7 pm, but even then is rarely crowded by urban gym standards. Before I move on, I must call BS on a previous review that stated falsely, twice, that Altitudes is dirty and poorly maintained. In my experience it's always been meticulously clean. I'm in there three or four times a week when I'm in town, usually late afternoons. The owner or a crew member are almost always there too, sweeping, mopping and maintaining. Employing the ancient common-law doctrine 'falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus,' it follows that that reviewer's personal attacks on the owner are probably also false. I've never witnessed any 'creepiness' or 'harassment' nor, in the many years I've been a member, have I heard any other such complaints. The cameras are there to protect people like that reviewer from creepiness & harassment - as well as to protect other members from false accusations of creepiness & harassment. Now, about the gym: There are two separate rather large chambers. The bigger one holds most of the weights and machines. The second, somewhat smaller chamber has bikes for spin class, a squat station, dumbbells, a couple benches, a 'strength tower' for dips/pull-ups/Roman chair exercise, and also a TRX bar - as well as lots of yoga mats and floor space for stretching, pushups etc. For weight training, there are multiple cable-pulley and lat-pull stations, two full sets of dumbbells with several flat or fixed-angle benches and a couple of adjustable ones, a couple of barbell racks for bench & military press, a curl rack with preacher pad, and machines for seated horizontal press, horizontal rowing, as well as leg curl and leg extension machines. For body-weight training, there's an assisted bar-dip/pullup machine. There are pull-up bars between the paired cable pulleys; there's the aforementioned 'strength tower,' and the TRX bar also comes in handy for pull-ups. For cardio, besides the spin bikes - which I believe are restricted to use during spin class - there are several elliptical trainers and treadmills - maybe four each, though I never actually counted. (I do all my cardio outdoors.)
Negative experience: Owner Kelly is intimidating, rude and threatening. Atmosphere is creepy, he watches his security cameras 24/7 and will harass you. Not helpful and certainly not a place I will pay to be at. Gym is not well kept, so really there is no redemption for his behavior. It is unfortunate that people are trying to hold good classes and it is one of the only well equip options in town. Still, my advice is to find any alternative so you never have the misfortune of meeting this guy.
Positive experience: Huge space, large variety of equipment, but badly in need of new equipment and a remodel. Overall, Solid gym for the price. Great option for our wonderful small town of Leadville, but if decent competition came to town they’d have to step it up quick!
Negative experience: There isn't even a website for this place, called and left a message fro pricing and "Kelly" was supper rude stating this information was on the facebook page. Haven't been and not interested in telling anyone about it. What a joke. There are 3 reviews on google and one is from the Kelly character who obviously has no interest in giving the information or getting new members.
Fantastic experience: Awesome, old fashion gym lots of weights private club, lots of space not allot of people, very clean.
