Fantastic experience: Great basic gym, no pool, hot tub, etc, but everything needed for a regular complete workout. I came here to try, and then just stayed even if I have to make a bit of a detour!

Negative experience: This place is the worst Golds in all of Austin. It’s dirty af. The machines are not kept up and a lot of them are half broken. All the equipment looks like it was sourced from muscle beach in the 80s. They keep this place hot and don’t turn the ac on. There is also a bad smell that I can’t put my finger on. And there aren’t enough wiping stations so half the people don’t wipe the equipment after they use them. There are two dead crickets just hanging out in the middle of the floor in a heavy walkway. This gym fails on every single level. It’s way more worth it to fight the crowds and drive the distance to the Golds on Slaughter and Congress

I am bringing these to the attention of my staff and Facilities Manager. I see looking at your check-ins that you have been to this location only one time. The last 3 days, we have had our HVAC Contractor replacing a very old unit. The temperature issue should dramatically improve starting today. Yes, we are a very old facility and there are no plans to remodel. The majority of our clientele here like the hardcore weight lifter feel. We are old and rusty and stained, but we are clean. We offer the benefit to our members to be able to attend any Gold's Gym in Austin. You have 13 newer location in the Austin Area to choose from. I am sorry about the two crickets. This 50 year old building has many points of entry, but we will continue to be diligent in sweeping throughout the day. Again, thank you for the feedback. We appreciate it. Negative experience: What a scam--Shady business practices here. It's bad enough that they won't let you cancel over the phone and you have to physically go into the gym, but they charge you for another 30 days after you cancel just to squeeze every last dime they can out of you. Wish I'd canceled when golds started going down the toilet after covid-- won't ever do business with these people again.

Fantastic experience: Plenty of machines. Separate room for stretching. You can sign up for exercise classes. Dry male and female dry sauna. Trainers if needed to get started.

Negative experience: This gym is not vey good lately it’s been a drag to work out here Ac is Always broke why do I pay for this I’ve coming here for 14 years and member for longer I pay my dues for this it’s Unbearable somebody needs to complain to corporate because this is getting ridiculous. Every time I come in this AC is broken specially when you’re working out can’t even think straight so damn hot in here.

We have a couple of units that we have been repairing off and on and it appears that they will have to be replaced with new units. Positive experience: Positives: - Good equipment. - great concept 2 rowers in side fitness room that is often empty when no classes are scheduled - some fun equipment outside. Not for summer time but great rest of the year Negatives: - Music is too loud all the time. - They only allow small backpacks with strings on floor and I have a small backpack that is as small or smaller than those, but it doesn’t have strings. It should be the size of the pack, it shouldn’t matter if it’s strings or straps. How weird. - Bathrooms are pretty dirty / gross most of the time - Water fountain often has a bunch of water around or under it

The primary reason we have restrictions on backpacks is because they can create a safety hazard and cause someone to trip. Positive experience: This Southeast Austin gold's gym location has been in this strip mall for over 20 years. It has everything you need and it's right off of I-35 so if I'm in the area passing through it's always a good option. It is a little bit outdated compared to some of the other ones so I wouldn't make this your home base but the staff is friendly and if you have the multi gym membership this will definitely serve your needs and have all the equipment that you're used to. It might not have a lot of the new cardio equipment or special equipment but you can definitely get a solid workout in if that's your goal!

Negative experience: I went in person to cancel my gym membership in May, and they continued to charge me until November. Called them and informed them about it. They charged me for the month of December. I should have paid more close attention to my bank statements and caught it before hand.
I apologize for the inconvenience and frustration. Our agreements require a written notice of cancellation. We always provide a copy, or ask the member to take a photo of the cancellation form at this location. Fantastic experience: This gym is awesome! Very nice and clean I’m always greeted by the staff at the front when I enter. Ive had personal training with Genesis for one year now she is awesome cares a lot about her clients and she won’t let you quit on yourself! Sauna is great and the classes they offer rock! Def recommend 100%

Fantastic experience: I've been a member here for a long time. I have visited probably 12 different Gold's locations - due to travel and wanting to experience them all - and this one if my favorite. Positive experience: It's not bad, a lot of stuff is broken or old/in not great condition, but the gym is large and clean
Constance, sorry for your experience with the equipment. There are no plans to replace the older equipment unless it can no longer be repaired. The vast majority of our clientele here prefer the "old school bodybuilding gym" feel. We often experience delays in parts needed to repair equipment due to ongoing supply chain issues. I've seen times when it takes way over 30 days to get the part in. Unfortunately, that issue is out of our control. I will follow up with my Facilities Manager on the status of the repairs. Positive experience: I'd like to echo some sentiments about the 4-6/7 staff being really great on a regular basis! I occasionally find myself going to the gym on weekday mornings/early afternoon, and the staff is still really nice, but I just usually go in the late afternoon. Overall, I tend to be able to get what I need for my workout, so I can't complain too much! I do wish there were some 12.5 lb dumbbells (there definitely used to be) and more pairs of 17.5s-27.5s (except 25s haha, plenty of those) in the free weight area. Ultimately though, this has been my gym for just over 2 years now, and I don't plan on changing that soon!

Fantastic experience: I love this gym. It’s always had a hardcore vibe. First stepped foot in this place back in 2003. This was the very first golds I’ve ever been to. Left a lasting impression as I am a golds gym member to this day.

Negative experience: Staff here is mostly friendly. Equipment though… definitely needs some work. It is baffling to me how there are only 2 adjustable benches in the free weight area of such a busy gym. Equipment will be tagged with ‘being serviced’ for weeks and then maybe it’s fixed, or maybe they just get ride of it. Definitely an ego problem here with some of the gym goers because it’s encouraged/allowed by certain staff members. If I had another option, I honestly wouldn’t go here. Gave 2 stars because the majority of staff there during the week between 4pm-7pm are really nice.

Due to ongoing supply chain issues, we often experience delays in parts needed to repair equipment. Equipment has been removed from the floor that cannot be repaired. In an effort to be totally transparent about the Southeast location, there are no plans for a total renovation. We will be replacing equipment that can no longer be repaired, and these pieces will probably not be new. Negative experience: only reason that im not leaving a 5 star review is to many people using tripods to film themselves, they always block walkways, set them in front of the dumbbells and machines you're trying to use. so now you have to be careful where you walk in an already small gym so you're not in anyone's videos. i know other golds dont allow tripods not sure why this is the exception. besides that gym is great.

Fantastic experience: Honestly, I don't understand where the impeccable and lovely staff gets their demeanor from, but sign me up for that seminar because let me tell you, the style and class and warmth in which i was greeted was the exact thing i thought about the next few days and brought me back for a full membership! There was a curly haired gentleman I think his name was Brice, was so warm and welcoming and answered all my questions without difficulty and made my experience as convenient as possible and without clerical folks like this guy, my fitness journey would still be at a stand still. the other two staff members near him at the time chimed in with pleasant remarks at the right times and made it seem like a wholesome overall group, i think one was named Evan and another was Stacy or Megan or something, regardless of names, they all deserve recognition, keep it up Golds Southeast!!

Fantastic experience: Been going to this gym early morning for over a year now and have not had a single bad experience. Negative experience: First impressions, smelly, when you walk in the doors a misplace smell hits your nose, it reeks of sweat and age. Then you are greeted by a quiet, and rude staff. I had walked in alone to scope the place out to see if I should move over from planet fitness, and was greeted with questions of my age and intention. I then asked for a tour opposed to welcoming myself to their area, instead if a tour they pointed in the direction of the machines and said go ahead. It was quiet and ghetto. I quickly got and idea of the place and left not soon after. Note: the fit gentleman was not rude, the bigger man was the rude one and was eating when I entered.
I apologize for the negative experience you had when you visited our location. This is not the experience we want people to have. Negative experience: They make canceling a membership impossible. Then if you don’t pay they send it to collections and aggressively tank your credit score. This is a large conglomerarte that only cares about money.

Positive experience: Honestly it's a bit on the older side but that's ok. A machine or two may be broken but most the stuff works. The only REAL PROBLEM is people never put their weights back. I'm literally here right now and there's a ez-bar barbell on the other side of the gym. People leave their benches loaded and just walk away. Some signs would go a long way, having one person putting things away periodically so people get the idea that they're supposed to rerack their weights.

Fantastic experience: I love going to this gym! I have trained with Genesis for over 5 years, and she has been the only trainer I’ve been able to stick with for that long! If you need someone who won’t let you quit on yourself and genuinely cares to see you succeed, I recommend training with her!

Positive experience: It has all of the equipment you need but some of the equipment is old. The showers are good but for some reason few people use them. The sauna seem really good but never used it. I just checked it out. Two out of four paper towel dispensers in the men's locker room are not working.

Fantastic experience: Not open at 3:30AM when I want to work out. Other than that it's got tons of machines and is always clean.

Fantastic experience: Good equipment, clean locker room and very friendly staff. As a visitor, I also much appreciated my free trial week - particularly when Planet, which is supposed to be so cheap, were going to charge me over $50 for a week.
Fantastic experience: In south Austin this is one of my go to gym locations. It might be a little dated but I prefer this location over the new Golds on Slaughter. This place is never overly crowded where you are unable to get on the equipment unlike the Golds on Slaughter.

Fantastic experience: Love Gold’s Gym, been coming here for four years now. This location has a “hometown feel” as it’s smaller than most of the newer locations. You must be aware however, there is always EXTREMELY LOUD music playing that is riddled with cussing! I am told it's a contract agreement with a music company that Gold's HQ has picked for all their gyms (it's now owned by a German Company). On a high note, GREAT personal trainers too, I recommend Genesis! She also teaches BootCamp which will kick you into high gear. Do it!

Positive experience: i just wanted to give a big shout out to Mike at the front! - I bought some shirts yesterday and i was told by the older lady who was working in the morning 8/15/2022 that the refund policy was if you bring back any clothes in 3 days you can get a return” i was like cool, i came back because it didn’t fit and Mike helped me and he explained that was very much wrong information and he explained how it really works. I felt like i was getting ripped off.. which it is if i’m being honest. I started to become frustrated and not once did any of his colleagues step in, i even think the manager walked by and didn’t say anything.. like But maybe Mike is the manager? He sure deserves that spot if he isn’t But Mike helped me and i left a happy customer.. he knows customer service and he was very friendly and patient and made sure i was taken care of and i really do appreciate him. i really hope someone important sees this so he can go further in his career at Golds, however long he decides to stay. Negative experience: They are very good for raising the monthly prices but not for putting a simple boxing bag, it is hard to believe, it is the only thing I ask for, I went to see other gyms and most of them have them, and I chose this one because it is close to my house and for the boxing bag. it is very sad
Anival, my name is Rick Williams, the GM at Austin Southeast. We did have a rate increase in August 2023. We have not had a rate increase since 2017 and it was only $5 per month. Sorry for your dissatisfaction with the Southeast location due to the fact that we don't have a heavy bag here. Unfortunately, our ceiling will not allow us to hang a bag safely and the stands do not hold up to contact usage in a gym environment. We do have some locations that have Heavy bags and you are welcome to go to those locations. Negative experience: I love the gym but the “no contract” is a lie. They say “ no contract” but force you to pay when canceling your “no contract” plan. Don’t lie to customers and force them to on something they are so called not in contract to pay. Then they have the nerve to try to harass and call you like their a credit collection. This is unprofessional and false advertising to customers. I did enjoy this gym but this has really put a bad taste in my mouth.
This is an unfortunate review. As a reminder, to what you and I discussed over the phone, Gold's Gym has no enrollment fees, no cancellation fees, no hidden fees at all, and no contract. It is a month-to-month membership agreement. The only thing we ask in the agreement is to give a 30 day written notice to cancel. Positive experience: The mens bathroom (right hand side) has been out of soap for about a month. Maybe more Update: the decline bench has been broke for 5 months. I have asked the front desk multiple times to address it, I have walked with a front desk attendant and pointed the malfunction out, and I have emailed the manager. Still broken. This is ridiculous they should loose their franchise.

Fantastic experience: I drive an extra 10 min just to go to this location. The staff is far & beyond the kindest of any Austin-area Golds. I am greeted BY NAME every time I arrive & leave. The staff act like humans (& not overlords) when enforcing mask rules. Vibe is old-school & equipment is pleasantly varied. Anyone into a less frilly, more zen scene needs to check this spot out. Shout out to Roxanne & the other gals who are there midday!

The front desk crew is always the best I have been to other locations that are not inviting at all as this location. Negative experience: Terrible customer service. I registered online and went to workout. I asked for help since I’m a new member, both employees were busy on their phones. I got no help and left disappointed looking for a new gym.
Positive experience: Although they stopped requiring and enforcing masks long before vaccines became more widely available, this is a pretty good gym. Be aware that it, like most gyms, can get quite crowded and you’ll probably have to make some compromises with your routine here and there to accommodate this reality. They could maybe benefit from giving up some of the cardio equipment for a few more free weight spaces so that folks aren’t clustered in one end of the gym. It’s also a shame that they’re not 24-hours, although I’m not sure if that was ever the case. I don’t think it’s necessarily worth the price, but it’s definitely satisfactory for what you do get.
Negative experience: I had to cancel my credit card because this gym REFUSED to cancel my membership over the phone. Then they kept charging me for 3 months AFTER I attempted to cancel and because I refused to pay for months that I didn't go AFTER they refused to cancel my membership, THEY SENT ME TO COLLECTIONS who HARRASED ME by phone, mail, and email for MONTHS. I wont be rejoining with this company and leaving this review in hopes that people catch on and this industry policy changes.

Negative experience: Despite taking Precautions, power lifting patrons are allowed to workout without masks if they have a doctors note. A face shield would help mitigate thier exhaled breath from travrling across the whole room. I am very disappointed that we are catering to childish, irresponsible people. The anti discrimination against the diabled protects him from having to do anything and creates a super spreader possibility. If this company truly wants to succeed and open up our city, then why hasnt it done something about this exploited loop hole ? Accomidate him and his disability by having him wear a faceshield. We must remember, these ppl that behave like this do not care about anyone elses well being. And put us all at risk simy for thier comfort.

Fantastic experience: This location is the best golds in austin. Staff is always on point, very professional and always courteous. I usually go in the morning and the girls that work the front desk are so kind and professional. Give those chicks raise . Outstanding lifting environment, clean and sanitary.
Positive experience: Nice gym to work out at now that its a little bit less crowded with the opening of the new one.
Negative experience: During this PANDEMIC you’d think they’d want to fix/refill the hand soap on the restrooms! I let the ladies at the front desk know and all I got was “someone told me already, there’s soap the batteries just aren’t working”. I was just letting them know because one was actually working, just had ran out of soap. Get it together!!
Positive experience: Gym staff are friendly and helpful when needed. The hours I tend to visit the gym in the evening are often packed with people, but it is not as overwhelmingly full when compared to other locations in the area. My overall experience at the location is positive, but I do have a few complaints about the availability of adjustable benches, glute ham developer machines, and a decline bench press.
Negative experience: I had a membership and I canceled it because I got into med school in a different city. They continued to charge my account for another 6 months. They tried to tell me that I never canceled. So at that time, I told the lady to cancel my membership but she never did. They continued to draw money out of my account for at least 3 more months. I found proof that I canceled 9 months before and had to threaten them with an attorney before they would cancel. And after all that, they still refused to refund me my money. So now I send my patients to LA Fitness instead.
