Negative experience: Max Fitness is not well taken care of. The attached photos are all on one machine. When they changed ownership from Golds, it got better for a little while. Now it's back to the same ole junk. There are things in there that have been messed up for years. You tell management and they give you the same old "we are about to order some stuff". Must be lost in the mail, I guess. They dump all of the money and resources into the other locations. The North Augusta location has always been neglected. If another gym of comparable size came to town, they would be out of business. The family Y is too small, and planet fitness is a joke.
Negative experience: Caution-Please be extremely wary of the reviews on here. I was a member for 2 years and I cringed almost every time I went in. Firstly - the staff behind the desk sit behind the desk. They do not get up to fill paper towels or soap. My husband actually overheard an employee say in response to these tasks, "that's not my job". They sit and chit chat with the buddies, feet up on the desk lounging like they're on a beach with a Pina Colada and not a care in the world. Secondly - the upkeep. For the amount of people you have on staff here, there should be no reason that TOWELS and SOAP are empty, consistently. The equipment is rusty, in poor and/or non-working condition and for majority of the summer, there is no AC. Thirdly - there is zero gym etiquette and rules are not enforced. There are bags all over the floor, posing a tripping hazard, people working out with improper footwear and nobody knows how to RE-RACK their weights because this "rule" is NOT ENFORCED, despite there being fancy little flyers posted on the walls. There is a clear issue here with management on MANAGING EXPENSES AND HER STAFF. So no, I will not be rejoining because your facility is junk and you have no business running this place further into the ground while still collecting monthly dues.
Hey Jamie, so the female manager on staff just returned actually to manage this gym and whip things back into shape, and we have had other people managing this facility over the past two years!!! Secondly, we'd also like to notate expenses are managed by our owners and not at the branch location managers disposal! In addition, we have enforced some new rules such no chairs behind the desk and have even brought on some new housekeeping staff and keeping things in tip top shape! We are also working on trying to ensure gym etiquette is also being enforced and followed, as everyone are adults and sometimes it's difficult to constantly monitor adults, however it's a work in progress for sure! Positive members and feedback is always a great thing, and sometimes we need to hear the other side of things, so we appreciate your feedback.

Positive experience: Good Gym but I don’t understand why the Aiken location is so much better. For 35 dollars a month the equipment is worn out, used, there’s hardly ever cleaning wipes available to grab, lots of “this machine is broken” papers taped the equipment, they had a hole in the ceiling outside for months when we pay all this money. I just think it’s pricey compared to Planet Fitness’ 10 dollars a month, I think the franchise could be more attentive to this location, but over all it gets the job done for a good workout. The Max Fitness Team are always respectful and Nice as well

Positive experience: Pretty solid facility very friendly staff that always welcomes you with enjoy your workout. Most cardio equipment in good working order never an issue for me getting on a bike or treadmill. Overall cleanliness okay with exception of sauna in men’s locker room - sometimes a little scary highly recommend NOT going barefoot, would give them 5 stars except for that issue.

Negative experience: They are running a promotion currently to artificially inflate reviews by promising gifts if you leave a five star review. I hate it when companies do this The majority of their cardio equipment is broken Five out of the 20 treadmills they have do not work and have not worked since they bought the place from gold gym They do not properly maintain equipment The staff is very helpful and friendly but that does not make up for the faulty equipment, unfortunately.

Fantastic experience: Recently had an issue that was troubling me over a miscommunication about my contract ending and events surrounding it , I emailed Bethany Mock via the email address listed on the website. She was very quick to respond , knowledgeable on my issue and had already gotten a solution together all in her very first response , she is very professional and made the interaction a painless one I appreciate her help greatly.

Fantastic experience: I was looking for a gym to properly facilitate my fitness journey and when I found Max Fitness I knew my search was over. Well maintained machines, racks, facilities, and personable staff all make Max Fitness the premier gym in North Augusta. Quit playing and get Max FIT!
Positive experience: Staff is friendly, but it isn't difficult to ensure there are paper towels and the cleaner bottles are filled. Some equipment has been broken for years, and there are never enough clips on the cables. Padding is torn on pretty much every machine. I would be embarrassed to call this my gym in the state that it is in. I recently signed up at a new gym and haven't missed this place once. I will check back in a few months, hoping there have been improvements made.
Fantastic experience: I’m not saying this place doesn’t have flaws because every gym does however, this place is definitely the best gym in my area with out a doubt, it’s spacious the deadlift and olympic lift area looks awesome and it has a sauna which I personally love and I get in it after every workout. Overall I’m glad I’m able to go here I give it 5 stars.

Negative experience: I’ve been a member at this gym since the beginning of this year, and ever since then things have been going downhill fast…there are so many hazards such as missing parts of the floor and the ceiling leaking on machinery. I usually work out in the morning so I didn’t even realize they did not have air conditioning until I went yesterday afternoon. When I asked how long the air has been out the front desk said about a month! It’s ridiculous to not have any air conditioning in summer months at a gym! I couldn’t even finish my workout yesterday because it was so hot.
Negative experience: I've been coming here over a year now and the same equipment is still broken. It's always hot, the AC isn't working. It's not clean. The lady at the front desk in the mornings is super friendly, but other staff is not. The childcare is great though. The workers are nice and interactive with the children. Susan is the best! Unfortunately, once my membership ends next year, I don't think I'll renew.
Negative experience: Feels like half of the equipment is broken here. Also extremely hot inside usually, so if you like that this is the gym for you.
Negative experience: I, along with many other members of Max Fitness, have become very disgruntled with the conditions of the gym. I joined two years ago and signed a two year contract. The manager at the time was Richard, who always greeted me, smiled, and asked how I was doing. The bathrooms at this time were clean. The cinema room worked, and the work out space that hosts Body Pump, Zumba, and other classes was air conditioned and clean. Fast forward to today and I show up to the gym that has zero power. The manager "thinks" it will be back on in an hour. Clients couldn't work out in the dark, and those of us who came for a scheduled class were out of luck. The previously mentioned work out space that hosts Body Pump is in no simpler words A DUMP! The weights are all faulty and losing the sand out of them. The mats are torn, the benches have all kinds of stains and tears, and the floor has lots of hair, dust, and black spots. Refer to pictures below. The first picture is a wad of hair that's been on the work out floor for months. Yuck. The air conditioner isn't working so we have to rely on an industrial fan. The outside of the gym was a safety hazard until just recently when it appears to have been fixed, but large chunks of debris were falling from the actual structure so caution tape was placed there as a quick fix. I voiced my concern to the agent working the desk regarding the sandy weights and I was met with lip service stating she would let the manager know. I could have done that. As I tell my students at school, "results, not excuses." Where is my $34.95 going each month? What are our fees paying for because it certainly isn't the facilities. My dilemma is that the instructors are terrific and so are the people in the classes I take as many of us are transplants from both Health Central and Gold's Gym. We like the classes and enjoy being there, but is it ultimately worth it to work out under filthy, unsafe, unsanitary conditions? My membership expired two days ago. I'm contemplating moving gyms unless the above items are corrected. And, I have a feeling that if I get a reply from management on this post, it will again be some blah, blah, blah excuse to appease me and others who are ready to move elsewhere. Do better. If not, I feel this is a slowly sinking ship.

Negative experience: They will literally steal your money. It's always hot they can't afford an air-conditioner there's a gross Leak in the ceiling and equipment is ALWAYS broken. Don't waste your money
Negative experience: I have been a member of Max Fitness (formerly Gold's Gym) in North Augusta for many years. There has been an ongoing issue with the heating and air system in the entire gym for most of these years. To make matters worse, the group exercise room has had NO heat or air for over one year. During the winter months the temperature in the group exercise room was between 45 - 55 degrees. So far this spring/summer the evening temperature in the group exercise room is between 78 - 81 degrees prior to starting a class, some of which are high intensity cardio classes. The temperature is usually higher by the end of the class. Also, weights in the group exercise room are in dire need of replacing. Sand leaks from most of them, and the ones with a solid filling rattle due to deterioration of the filling. Management, which is never present in the evening, appears to have no concern regarding this DANGEROUS situation. Shame on Max Fitness for not providing a comfortable, safe workout space for members and instructors! Possibly the gym needs to be reported to OSHA, at least on the behalf of the instructors. Membership fees remain the same, yet things in need of attention go unaddressed! I attempted to contact the Corporate Office, to which I never received a response. This speaks volumes! It starts at the top.
Negative experience: Everything is always broken here. For the amount of money we pay for membership, this shouldn't be happening. Half the treadmills don't work, and haven't worked for a while. This gym is always packed, and it's frustrating trying to get a workout in when everyone is on top of each other! I regret coming here. :(
Negative experience: Did my 7 day free trail and the atmosphere was definitely not welcoming. Equipment is no good!!! Prices are high it’s not worth it planet fitness it is
Negative experience: This has to be the dirtiest gym I’ve ever been to. The locker rooms have never been cleaned properly. The manager just walks around working out in the gym all day instead of putting Lysol in the smelly stinky bathrooms. Terrible management.

Fantastic experience: There was an associate,Hope , who was a very great with telling me the ins and out of max fitness. I was helped by Asa and Daviana as well. I didn’t have to wait long for a bandaid . My workout went smoothly. I felt a welcoming atmosphere at this location.I will definitely be coming back .I didn’t have a hard time with anything I asked for help with . I had a 10/10 experience here.

Negative experience: I almost died in Max Fitness from heat stroke. When I first signed up, no mention of their AC being broken for over a month was brought up. My first time working out there, there were huge box fans blowing in certain areas which offered NOTHING. They finally fixed it which makes it no better. Their equipment is ALWAYS broken. Then there is Elevate Fitness. Elevate Fitness is awful and the gym makes it to where you come in contact with them so they can double bill you & lock you in contracts.

Negative experience: A little disappointed that when I joined the gym I told them I chose them for their childcare unaware that it's only at specific times and during the time I can go to the gym it's not open at either location. I went to cancel it unaware that I signed a 2 year contract and that it would cost over $200 just to cancel. Which I take partial blame for not fully reading everything before I signed anything, but they really need to start stressing the fact that you signed a multiple year contract and that there will be a hefty cancelation fee if you try to leave before that contract is over. The lady at the desk was really nice though.

Negative experience: I have been in gyms for 41 years and have my personal trainer cert. Most of my years were in tons of gyms in Atlanta and never have I experienced such madness. Ever since they bought this location (and Bobby Jones location) from Gold's, they've not had any air conditioning working... either they're not getting it fixed or they're trying to save $$... either way... NOT our problem! They have huge ceiling fans that aren't working either.. Its cooler outside than in and with the Augusta heat, that's saying a lot. It's a shoulder to shoulder sauna in there and I have complained to management for two summers in a row but nothing has been done to rectify the madness. I have emailed as well. Nothing in response. If you want a sweat shop... this is your gym! I mean... we're all there to work hard, burn calories and sweat but let's be reasonable. Everyone is complaining and miserable. Insanity! All that said... the staff (who do not have a say in our comfort) are super friendly.

Fantastic experience: The staff here is always so kind. Bob, Craver and Melissa for example are always in the gym hyped up for the day and engaging with members. Since Bob has become GM, the gym has already changed tremendously! It is super clean, always organized & new equipment has been added! I love the vibes and highly recommend getting your training in at Max Fitness in North Augusta!

Fantastic experience: Good, clean facility with a lot of available equipment. Sauna and locker room are always clean and tidy. They’ve reupholstered a lot of benches. A few treadmills are broken or won’t turn on but there’s usually plenty available! Great gym for the price

Negative experience: TV’s are all out but one
Hey Dave, I hate that you are dissatisfied with the status of the TV's. It happened after a tech came out and suddenly, they began shutting off! We do try to ensure staff are getting them back on in a timely manner after they shut off, however sometimes we do get busy and aren't able to as soon as possible. If you have one you would like on, that happens to be off just give us a call or stop by the front desk so we can ensure they are on!! We apologize about that inconvenience.

Fantastic experience: After exercising at home for 3 months it was time to take my fitness goals up a notch. I needed access to weights/equipment and childcare at a reasonable price. I met with Richard and I’m so glad I did, we decided on a family membership. Employees have been very friendly, proactive and professional. My kids have a good experience at childcare. We miss Ms. Shantel(sp?), who left just after my kiddos got attached to her! But the caregivers are all nice. Sometimes cardio machines are broken, but there’s so many available, it’s not been an issue for me. The last time I brought a broken machine (recumbent bike) to management’s attention, it was fixed within a week. The bathrooms are nice & and the sauna works! Fellow gym members are polite and friendly, it’s just a good atmosphere. I don’t feel self-conscious as a woman in the weights section. My husband has started training with their personal trainer, Craver, and we’re really satisfied with everything!

Negative experience: The place is super cold, I'm seriously thinking about changing my gym, the weather is cold outside and I go in and it's worse inside, I feel like the cold air conditioning hits my back.
Negative experience: Positives about this gym: the people are great and it’s nice to have access to free weights. There is a lot of opportunity to reach your goals because it offers a variety of different spaces for your workouts. They also offer various classes and training in house which is great for people new to working out. The daycare facility has several options for your child including an indoor playground, a movie room, toys, and etc. Negatives- A lot of equipment is broken, there is a lack of some equipment (only one deadlift platform with no time limit), and a bunch of talk on fixing equipment with no action. With the daycare, I had a wonderful experience at first. The employees in there were incredible and my child loved going to the gym. Most of the employees now are very kind, friendly, and loving- my child very much enjoys when they are working. One employee never speaks (even when you speak directly to her) and sits behind the desk in the daycare. She never seems to actually watch the kids, just sits on her phone the entire time. I have heard SEVERAL stories about children climbing up on top of things under her watch and she doesn’t notice because she’s on her phone. The bathroom in the daycare facility has been broken for about 3 weeks. The solution to this issue is to pull me out of my workout in order to take my child to the bathroom rather than getting it fixed. I have gone to the gym 5 times this week and been pulled out my workout every single day, some days multiple times. At this point, I am considering moving to another gym.
Negative experience: Maxfitness is the name brand of the bandaid they put on this place. Shiny new paint new label but same garbage equipment from when the place first opened. Still no tanning and a little more than half the equipment is broken... still. 5 treadmills work the rest have the broken sign on them. All the equipment needs to be replaced. They keep promising "better" feels like bs to me. Mitch one of the "new" owners (reminds you of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo) he is only there to collect a paycheck. Won't listen to the people that go to that gym and the ones that are lucky enough to catch him and talk to him it just goes in one ear and out the other. Waiting on that CRUNCH gym to be put in near exit one or so they say....
Negative experience: When they bought it from gold's gym the spent who knows how much money on a full paint job but didn't fix a single piece of equipment probably around 60% of the cardio equipment doesn't function correctly most of them have out of order signs on them the others just don't operate correctly for certain functions. One out of three of the stair machines work. The equipment in the other areas isn't as bad they are a lot better at fixing the strength machines in a timely manner. Pretty decent free weight area. Wish they had mirrors in the tiny group room. Biggest complaint being the inability to fix cardio equipment. The staff is really great and friendly.

Fantastic experience: Nice gym, surprisingly clean. Lots of new equipment. The staff treated me on my entrance and even spoke to me as I left. This is the best gym in the north Augusta area.

Negative experience: A worthless gym. Always has been even when it was Gold's. Almost half the equipment is old and worn out. 15 to 20 of the treadmills don't even work and are out of order, leaving about five or so that you can actually use. The AC in the building has always sucked, but has been fixed after god knows how long. Don't waste waste your time here.
Fantastic experience: With the rebrand they have recently redone the inside of the gym, and have made major improvements! Front desk is always friendly and greets you hello and goodbye! Great place to work out

Fantastic experience: From the moment you walk in the door until you leave you just feel welcome here. The staff is above and beyond. Bethany makes sure you leave with a smile on your face. Fantastic experience: I love going to Max Fitness ! Best gym in town, they have a lot of great equipment, group classes and my favorite the sauna. Everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend Max Fitness to everyone I know.

Fantastic experience: I’m so happy to be a part of such an amazing gym and group of people. Not only are the staff members always super friendly and helpful, but the other members are as well. The facility is always super clean and stocked for all our needs. My kids spend a lot of time in the kids zone and never want to leave; Bailey is there most of the time and always does a great job I can workout and know my children are taken care of properly. I can not recommend Max Fitness NA enough

Fantastic experience: Joined in June 2022. Got a fitness coach, Eric Houston. Eric is the best certified coach I've had. There is too much detail to list about how experienced and intuitive he is with training. I'm 76yr of age, have been utilizing gyms for 7 years. I got pretty good results but never understood the equipment and the body mechanics. Eric is very strong on training with correct technique. I've learned in one month more than I've learned in the 7 years trying and not really using equipment correctly by myself. Now im training correctly for maximum result. You just gotta try Eric to understand what I'm talking about.

Fantastic experience: I love the atmosphere of this gym! Everyone is friendly and non-judgmental. From the staff to the other gym members I feel welcomed the second I walk in the door. They have all the equipment I need for an efficient work out and the employees keep it very clean! Bethany, the manager is doing a great job. I highly recommend Max Fitness in North Augusta!

Fantastic experience: This is a no disco, no neon, no frills actual gym with a neighborhood feel. Has everything you need with extensive selection of equipment to get a great workout. Not as sissified as the Purple Planet.

Fantastic experience: Never made a review before, and logged into a old Google account to appreciate Bethany for helping me out with a issue from another location when it wasn’t a responsibility of hers. Was a issues going on for months and she solved it in 2 days. 5 stars all around.
Positive experience: The gym has gotten better. The equipment is still very old and worn-out. The rest of the gyms in the area are getting new equipment but the NA gym still has the same hand-me-downs. At this point I would take the old equipment from the Evans gym they just replaced. I am glad they atleast painted the place. Now we just need the work out equipment to be updated and it will be a nice gym.

Fantastic experience: This is a very great gym! Even after the transition to Max Fitness from Golds it has been very good! The staff is very good and polite and hard working. The General Manager Bethany is very nice and will answer questions and is very punctual with things. Overall is a great gym!!
