Max Fitness: Opinions

Fantastic experience: I’m a 49 year old cancer survivor with 5 children. The gym is very diverse with younger and older members. I always feel comfortable and no judgement. The staff is friendly and the gym itself is great. All the equipment (free weights and machines) are in good shape. Very thankful for this gym, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Fantastic experience: Max fitness is a great gym for the price with all of the machines you need plus more.
Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms i have been to in a while. The staff goes above and beyond to help customers. They also have any piece of gym equipment you can think of with good quality too.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend PUSH classes and trainer sessions. They push me beyond belief and have greatly improved my physical fitness. Love this gym.
Fantastic experience: Just joined and started the 6 week challenge. Such a supportive and family oriented gym. They truly care about your goals and will do everything possible to get you there. Best gym in AUBURN!
Negative experience: I wouldn’t recommend this gym. Many people that I know of and also myself have been scammed by this place. I was only going a month before i go back to school . They were still charging me every month even after I stopped my membership… I got a call from a credit bureau saying I owe over 2k .. and some friends that joined me also had letters saying they owe thousands when we were only there a month .. any other gym is better than this one management wise. It’s crazy that when I started crunch I told them what happened at max and they say so many people have said the same thing.. but this is an honest review so do with it as you please .
Fantastic experience: The best gym in Auburn. Lovely trainers and staff. Highly recommend this gym. 10/10 experience!!! -Alexis Knight
Negative experience: Won’t let you cancel membership
Negative experience: Failed to address a member harassing another innocent member
Negative experience: I'd give 0 stars if possible. I was assured my account would be closed before I deployed with the military. Two years later and I'm dealing with a collections account because Max Fitness in fact did NOT close my account. Do Not get a membership here, go to Tiger Iron or Planet Fitness.
Fantastic experience: Didn't have a chance to workout in this gym but the facility had all updated equipment the restroom locker area was was very clean and well maintained. My son's travel basketball team has drills here a couple times each week and I was very impressed with this facility, mainly due to the friendly and warm welcome I received from Raquel at the front desk who was very knowledgeable in regards to everything pertaining this facility had to offer. She even gave me the option to watch my son or workout while I waited. Unfortunately, I'm about to have my 8th back surgery so I had to decline her her sweet gesture. But I can guarantee I will be back to this facility for my physical therapy all in part because of RAQUEL making feel like I was already a member here Great Job Max Fitness!!! She is a KEEPER!!!
Fantastic experience: Cameron is a top notch employee. He made myself and my friend feel welcomed to the gym. He took us on a tour and showed us all the amenities the gym had to offer. Definitely will be returning to the gym in the future!
Fantastic experience: Great gym to drop in at. $10 bucks for 1 day and $25 for the week. Equipment is older but does the trick and plenty of space. Staff was friendly and the members were helpful when asked questions. Will definitely be back!
Negative experience: If you are looking to join this gym you must know that Max fitness will treat you nice to get you to sign an agreement to join with them. But if you want out is almost impossible. They will make you go through their website instead of resolving there when you sign in for the very reason to make it hard to cancel . I tried to cancel many times with no success, through the website and in person. I was told they would take care of it and never did . It was when COVID hit and it was unsafe to expose yourself. To this day I received phone calls of dept collection companies saying I owe a ridicule amount of money. There are other good gyms out there that don't force you to stay or have a away out in case you need to. Be safe everyone.
Negative experience: I cannot get this gym to leave me alone after canceling my membership 3+ years ago and repeatedly telling them to stop contacting me. When I was a member, the gym was mediocre with heavily worn equipment and charged a premium rate solely because it was the only gym in the area of its size. I also noticed as I went to write this review that current employees are leaving five star reviews to try and bolster their reputation. Your money is better spent at Crunch, Anytime Fitness, or Anywhere Other Than Max.
Negative experience: This club is a complete joke! Two of my friends both tried to cancel back in the summer and found out recently they both owed 500$ + in debt because the staff doesn’t do their job. We called Max to try and understand the situation and they were no help at all. A previous manager told one of them they could cancel at anytime but apparently this isn’t the case. The previous manager also gave me and 4 others a feee year membership because we referred others to that gym. New management found out a few months later and canceled our free year due to them saying “we had no idea of this”. This gym is nothing but money hungry and cares nothing about the health and safety of their members. Highly recommend Crunch of Tiger Iron over Max Fitness.
Fantastic experience: Raquel is the best!
Fantastic experience: Love this place! No judgement ever and I love it! ❤️ Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Always accommodating! Great gym. 10/10 recommend.
Fantastic experience: I love Max, Katie did a body scan for me and my bestfriend and she was so informative and helpful. I love the atmosphere and equipment provided. I wish the sauna worked better but other than that, no complaints!
Fantastic experience: Max fitness is my favorite gym I’ve ever been to. The atmosphere is friendly, the staff is professional & the equipment is nice. Big shout out to zoie on their team, SHE ROCKS!
Fantastic experience: Been a member for about 6 months and I have loved my experience here so far. Everyone is very friendly and the music choice is always solid. It’s also never too packed during peak hours like many other gyms I’ve been to. It has all the equipment I need to hit everything & I’ve rarely noticed equipment being in need of repair. I also like working out at night, and Curtis (who works during the night shift) has helped me several times during my nightly workouts whenever I need anything. 10/10 gym!
Negative experience: Ban tren Matt he’s a Kooooook
Fantastic experience: Perfect gym and awesome staff!
Negative experience: Staff condones physical threats of violence and harassment.
Positive experience: Nice but need more space inside for workout
Negative experience: staff members condone harassment
Fantastic experience: W gym
Fantastic experience: Cam and Katie are max fitness professionals and should represent the company.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym, Friendly and Very Helpful Staff
Fantastic experience: Cam and Katie are max fitness professionals and should represent the company
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff, very helpful, great equipment.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in auburn, great updated equipment, and a consistent crowd. 10/10
Fantastic experience: Brady Mora is an amazing guy with tons of experience, genuinely wants to help everyone get better.
Fantastic experience: Love max! Tons of machinery and free weights, and super nice employees who want to help if needed.
Fantastic experience: Best gym ever!! Brady and Katie have helped me in the gym so much!!!
Fantastic experience: SIGN UP WITH MAX FITNESS!! They are amazing! I love working with my personal trainer Katie Perry!!
Fantastic experience: Very welcoming and friendly staff on your way in and out! Plenty of rooms to do all types of workouts. Great location.
Fantastic experience: The management is better and easier to work with than it used to be. The employees are really nice and they got alot of new machines.
Fantastic experience: The best gym in auburn!! Everyone is so nice, welcoming, and helpful!!
Negative experience: Saw a video where they let a gym goer be openly threatened and they TOOK THE SIDE of the guy who was making the threats even though he was on video, after that I'll never step foot in this gym again, absolutely disgusting
Fantastic experience: Definitely the most professional gym around auburn, and not only in regards to the staff. The machinery is by far the best around this area.
Fantastic experience: They are amazing and always so nice! So laid back and wonderful for all ages! Thanks for all you do Max Fitness staff; y’all are a blessing and God bless you all!
Fantastic experience: Can’t say enough about how much I love this gym! Such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. They also have the best childcare around!
Negative experience: This is the gym where a notorious incident of assault took place on video and the employees were completely fine with it. Come here only if you're okay with putting your safety at risk.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym for whatever your fitness goals are. Has equipment that most gyms do not. Has the old school gym feel with classes and trainers for all age groups.
Fantastic experience: Have had a great experience with all the new equipment and all of the PUSH class! All fees and information was told upfront when signing up and I haven’t had any issues! Great staff too!
Negative experience: The employees at this gym PROMOTE the harassments of innocent members by confrontation old bald guys. This gym and its staff need to get their act together because that's completely unacceptable for any gym.
Negative experience: staff do not know how to resolve conflicts, there is video footage of a member threatening bodily harm to another member and the staff present dismissed their behavior and actually intimated they would kick out the victim for speaking up. Unbelievable and would not recommend this gym to anyone.
Fantastic experience: I visit max in auburn a few times when in town. My main gym is max in Columbus but both are great!!! Everyone is always so friendly. The free weights is the best part
Fantastic experience: Great gym, equipment always kept clean and everything works for the most part. The machines that are damaged are normally fixed in a timely manner. Best place in Auburn to workout.
Negative experience: Terrible employees with not even the bare minimum of conflict resolution skills. They publicly allow bullies to threaten other gym goers. Save your money, avoid at all costs
Fantastic experience: The staff is great, always helpful, and kind. I enjoy that it’s not super crowded like other gyms in Auburn so you don’t have to wait on equipment. Also equipment is new. Best gym in Auburn!!
Negative experience: Men's locker room was nasty. No toilet paper in 3/4 stalls. The showers were covered in grime and I believe mold. Some of the machines were rusted quite badly. However for the equipment they had them all. The other patrons didn't swipe down the equipment after use. For a cheaper gym this hits the marks to get a workout in but don't expect a grand experience.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Recently started working here and love it. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff really cares about the members. It’s awesome! Could not suggest it enough!
Fantastic experience: Me & my fiancé left crunch due to the overwhelming crowds to come to this gym and we love it!! Brady, the GM, is so nice and personable and has done great things to this gym!! We are very happy here!
Negative experience: 0 stars really. Besides the infamous video floating around regarding the harassment and poor response / handling from the actual employees, here is my own experience. My friend referred me to go there so we could both get a discount or something that I'm not even sure what it was applied to (if at all) because you'll go on to read that the handling of money and billing here is all wrong in the first place, from the start. It also supposedly included a separate free "vip tour" which I feel like anyone who is interested in the gym should be able to receive. Several employees texted me throughout different times of the day that same week trying to schedule me to come in to sign up. I let each of them know that I wanted the tour before I commit. Out of the 5 that messaged me throughout that week, only 1 girl actually helped me set up a time whereas the others couldn't be bothered. At the time, they were open 24 hours throughout the week and close early on weekends. I went at 7pm, an hour before closing, for a tour and no one was at the front desk. Me and my friend wandered past the offices and couldn't find a single person that looked like they worked there, just people using the equipment. We waited at the desk for 30 min before my friend decided she would just show me around. Only then did someone come ask us if we needed help. The employee had been working out behind the desk the whole time and either hadn't noticed us for the entire time we stood there or didn't care. Upon signing up, I was billed wrong and never told my total despite the dude working there asking if I wanted to leave a tip. FOR SIGNING ME UP? Besides that I didn't even see my total until after I went into the parking lot to leave and checked my bank app for what I was charged for. Because I was billed wrong, I complained via email and phone and kept getting the run around when I said I wanted a refund. Finally someone helped me and talked me into staying, changing my membership to the proper one I originally wanted, tried to assure me that the guy who signed me up was "new" and "should have never been in the office alone handling money and signing people up", and they applied the balance I already paid to future month bills so technically I "Paid in advance". Fast forward to now. I have been a member for about 8 months. I go to the gym about 2-3 times a week during night time. There is never anyone at the front desk. The sauna is never working. Several times the lights in a particular room would cut off (motion sensor) despite me moving around in it with no switch to flip to help. The fake grass upstairs looks tacky and it's uncomfortable. About 1-2 months ago I started inquiring about canceling my membership even though I still had a few months pre-paid from the situation that happened when I first signed up. I wasn't even worried about a refund at this point, just desperate to get out and also wanted to be assured I wouldn't be billed in the future despite all this. I couldn't get ahold of anyone via email despite the spam of emails I get throughout the week asking me for a yearly fee or to join classes, none of the phone numbers who texted me eager to get me to join all those months ago were available to help me once they realized no commission for sign up was involved now. This gym run by students and people who peaked in high school has poor management and clearly poor judgement or maybe it is a reflection of the type of managers that work here in the first place.
Fantastic experience: Love all the changes Max has made since bringing in Brady last year! Childcare is awesome, there is new equipment & constant upgrades happening!
Fantastic experience: I was a member of Max for a year prior to becoming an instructor there. The most friendly members and great instructors made me want to be part of this amazing fitness family! I've seen alot of changes over the last 7 years but recently it has been even better! New management, new equipment, and awesome new members!
Negative experience: I promise you do not want to work out at this gym. Do not sign up and fall for this gym. I asked if I could cancel anytime and they said yeah of course! They must have forgotten to mention the $100 cancellation fee! This is after being spammed by one of the workers there for months asking to get in contact with my fraternity and to contact my friends. I promise you do not want to sign up at this gym.
Fantastic experience: This gym is great! I love the class options and variety of times. The instructors are top notch and lots of fun! Highly recommend to anyone in the Auburn area.
Fantastic experience: I have been going to this gym since 2016 and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The staff always work hard to bring the best fitness experience to the members. They keep the facility clean, machines maintained, and have extraordinary management and customer service. I would feel like a traitor if I went to any other gym.
Negative experience: Extremely expensive for absolutely no reason. Most of the machines are not new, which wouldn’t be an issue if the membership weren’t so expensive. Another HUGE problem I have is paying $25 a month for “mid” equipment and i can’t even bring a friend for free more than once. Like are you serious? Crunch is $10 and a friend is free every single time. On top of all of this, it’s $100 to cancel if you want to leave (unless you pay for 18 months). What’s even dumber is that if I got an injury/disability that would in-able me to work out for the rest of my life, I’d still have to pay $50 to cancel. This gym is a worse moneygrab than your 20k/year private school. Do not recommend unless you have loads of spare cash you literally can’t spend on anything else. Also, when I signed up the woman who signed me up didn’t even mention the cancellation fee until I had already signed… (maybe it was right before I signed, I don’t exactly remember, but I do remember she said it quickly and quietly almost like she didn’t want me to hear it). Oh and one more thing - Upon joining and bringing one or 2 friends ONE TIME, they had no problem contacting them nearly everyday trying to get them to sign up, however when it comes to cancelling your membership don't expect the same attitude. They make it purposefully more difficult to cancel/suspend your membership, like you can't even just cancel or suspend it, you have to be approved... I've waited 6 days so far for a follow up on cancellation now (finally I just had to call them again) and my account still isn't cancelled yet. Id recommend this gym to absolutely nobody.
Fantastic experience: There’s no better gym family. Max is has everything I could want in a gym. Top notch equipment. Plenty of rooms to workout in if being on the weight floor isn’t your favorite. Great group classes. Nice and helpful staff. Best part is the childcare because schedules get crazy but me and my husband can still find time to go workout together thanks to the childcare. 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: The best club in Auburn! Great staff, brand new equipment, 30,000 square footage, sauna, childcare, personal training and more. Every staff member is dedicated to making sure your health needs are met! Even so, they give each member a free body scan and fitness consultation. I’ve worked at a gym in previous years and nothing compares to this one. It’s a gym community full of life! I hope that some of these reviews do not discourage the chances of anyone wanting to try this gym. The gym has transformed over the past few years and is under new management. The General Manager, Brady Mora, is the best of the best!
Fantastic experience: My personal trainer, Sam, is amazing. The staff is really kind and helpful. 2 stories with many places to workout. They have a large variety of equipment and good music. They also host many different competitions to promote fitness and they have many different classes you can take.
Fantastic experience: I was a member at this gym years ago when it was Gold’s. I left for good reason. I started back here by happenstance, and Brady, the GM now has completely reformed this place for the better. There are no sleazy tricks or fees, the culture is positive, employees are helpful and positive. They are also bringing in all new equipment!! Best gym in the Auburn-Opelika area by far.
Negative experience: Todo esta vien , lo q no me gusto esque me robaron una chamarra , alguien. De ahí lo tomo
Negative experience: I was coaxed into a "$1" month referral which locked me into paying $30 a month for the next year and a half. You cannot cancel your membership unless you are willing to pay $100 before your contract ends. The business practices of this gym are shady and this gym is not your friend, I highly advise joining any other gym. Don't be another victim of their business practices.
Fantastic experience: Had a great Push class today! Thanks for having us!
Fantastic experience: I just started Maxx Fitness at the beginning of the year and love it! Very clean and spacious gym! The management is awesome and offer great specials almost weekly! They have a great team of trainers as well, and everyone greets you as you walk in. Love the experience at Maxx Fitness so far!
Negative experience: I tried to cancel my membership multiple times and after being charged time and time again I called and was told that they did not remember me coming in and canceling. I am just now being told my 30 day is being put in, but I’m not sure if I even believe that. Whatever you do, do not put a card on file here. I have heard terrible things about this gym, but always defended them until now. Join any gym but this one, they are not your friend. I am moving and a college student who is graduating. I pay month to month and am not in a contract. I’m the patient and forgiving type when it comes to business, but this pushes me over the edge. If your trying to join a gym that won’t hassle you, I recommend Tiger Iron.
Negative experience: Highly do not recommend this gym as a college student. Its a hassle to cancel your membership and when you do its a $100 fee that is not mentioned when you first sign your membership contract. When I first moved to Auburn, I ignored the reviews and decided to still sign up because it was the closest one to my house but I regret it so much. I will be moving to Crunch just like a lot of people. I hope this place gets better contracts or closes down.
Fantastic experience: Just finished my workout at Max Fitness. What an awesome place staffed by an outstanding group of men and women. Any organization is the sum total of its leadership. Max Fitness is no exception. Lead by general manager Tye Brown. He is never to busy to offer an encouraging word or answer any questions one might have . That servant leadership flows through him to the staff .Especially lead personal trainer, Jake Walker whom I have had the pleasure to work closely with the past two months. Intimidating when you are first introduced because he looks as if he just returned from an audition for an Incredible Hulk movie . He quickly makes you feel comfortable and you feel your goals are first and foremost on his agenda. This was important to me as a senior citizen not looking for a beach body but simply to improve my level of strength in order improve the quality of my every day life . Thanks to Jake, I am stronger and more mobile than I have been in many years. And let’s not forget Drew Sterns, her friendly demeanor and her magnetic smile belies her intense focus on achieving the highest level of fitness for herself, clients and members. In summary, Max Fitness is the best investment I have ever made from strength training, nutrition counseling, rest and recuperation . It is the best return on my time and money ever. As I left Max Fitness recently, I thanked Tye and Jake for changing my life. And without hesitation they both said, “You are the one that changed your life.”
Fantastic experience: Fabulous gym. With a wonderful and personal general manager. I especially enjoy the group fitness classes and that a lot of moms/families from my kids’ school are also members there.
Positive experience: Best place I’ve worked out so far it can get crowded but when a gym is good it’s to be expected
Fantastic experience: PUSH is a great addition to Max Fitness!!Great group classes, energetic and friendly instructors!!!!!!
Fantastic experience: Great facility. Helpful staff. Angie Perry, my personal trainer for a year, was terrific!
Negative experience: Please please do not go here. All they care about is money. It took me forever to cancel my membership with these crooks.
Negative experience: Trainer/manager jake walker real disrespectful not professional used profanity and told me I never have to come back to gym
Positive experience: Great place but it seems small and crowded because the training areas are so close together. Ive built up a nice frame in there tho.
Negative experience: If you sign up for this gym and need to cancel for any reason you will regret it. They will not let you out of the contract EVEN if you provide all the correct documentation and follow protocol to the T. Avoid this place at all cost
Negative experience: Not ideal for the typical college student. They make you pay $100 or more just to sign up and I got charged $130 just to cancel my membership. The money is not worth what you get. Half of their equipment doesn’t work half the time, I know there was an ab machine upstairs that has been broken for at least 5 months. I will not be returning to Max again.
Negative experience: If I could give this place a negative 5 star review, I for sure would. Do not join this gym, or sign any contract. The individuals who work here only care about the money and make it SO hard for you to cancel the membership. Definitely would NOT recommend them to anyone.
Fantastic experience: Love Max Fitness! I have been a member of Max for over 10 years. We have the best group fitness instructors. If you love classes then join our gym. They started a PUSH class which has been so much fun and has truly challenged me. It's the interval training plus coaching that I've been needing! From Pump to RPM to PUSH I can't get enough! There are so many other opportunities so come and check us out! Strength training, personal fitness, Zumba independent work outs, you name it! There's something for everyone at Max. And, their staff are really nice!
Negative experience: This place will lie to you to get you to sign up for a “free membership” and tell you that you can “cancel any time” to get you to sign a contract. Then you will try to cancel “any time” like the said, and they will ignore your inquiries on their website, through email, and not call you back. Once you tell your credit card to stop allowing the charges because they will not acknowledge your multiple attempts to cancel, they will send you to collections for MORE than the contract is worth. My credit score dropped 40 points. MULTIPLE people have told me Max Fitness has treated them this way too. What a bad company.
Negative experience: Hard to cancel a membership. Told them not to sign me up for auto enroll but found out the hardware that they did anyways. While talking to the employee doing my paperwork so I could sign up asked if it would help my credit for this contract and was told that this membership does help grow credit. Turns out that it doesn't at all. Biggest waste of money I've ever spent and im sure that they will try to hit me aith a debt that I dont owe. They made me pay for my membership when I worked there and still got lied too when they said they would cancel my contract. When I worked there the whole gym was so filthy and the manager Jake would not buy more cleaning supplies so I could do my job. When covid hit you would think that they starting cleaning more but no the gym actually got much more dirty than when I worked there. They didn't pay me for a solid week that I worked there and I just gave up on trying to fight it. Please don't sign a contract here. Just read the reviews
Fantastic experience: Fun and well stocked with machines to have a great workout. The staff is genuinely nice and goes beyond a reasonable call to duty to ensure that all is well with the member. I love the professionalism of this staff I will definitely recommend this gym to everyone interested in getting back on track.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Max Fitness for about a month now and absolutely love it! I have been working with personal trainer David and he is FANTASTIC!!!!! The gym is being constantly sanitized and that provides me peace of mind as I work out in this pandemic. Also, I absolutely appreciate their reasonable rates.
Negative experience: Does not recommend this gym to anyone. All they want is your money. I was attending this gym but when covid came everything closed. When things opened I still decided I was not ready to go back to the gym due to this pandemic. When thinking about going back I ended up being in a car accident which caused me injury. The accident caused me to do months of physical therapy and I’m still not 100 percent. I paid for the time I used the gym, etc but this gym took to collections as if I owe them over $3000. HOW!? Please don’t go to this gym they are a total rip off!!!
Negative experience: These guys are dirty when it comes time to terminate your membership. As a college student, I finished school and moved. I was not in a contract. I had a month-to-month membership. I called and told them I wanted to cancel my membership and they hung up on me. So I called back. They wanted proof that I moved, and for me to fill out a form to cancel. (I was not in a contract) I filled the form out and was charged again 3 times after I moved. They told me later that it would be a month to “process” the cancellation. Seems like a way to get a few more payments out of their members before it’s over with. I can’t imagine a cancelation being so complicated to take 30 days. See about paying upfront if you’re dead set on joining here. Tiger Iron is also a great gym. I would recommend looking into them
Negative experience: Terrible gym they are fraudulent
Fantastic experience: I've been a member here since 2008. It's a great place to workout. They have everything you need to meet your fitness goals.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! David the personal trainer is great and will definitely get you the results you want to see! BUT It's INTENSE, so BEWARE!
Negative experience: if I could rate 0 stars I would, don’t waste your money. I’ve tried getting out of my contract for a year now!!!!! The customer service is a joke! STAY AWAY FROM MAX FITNESS.
Negative experience: Had some issues with payments once and took me forever to get it fixed and they still charged me for not paying on time when it was there system that was wrong. Also tried to cancel my membership because of relocation and the form "does not work". Also think it is ridiculous that they are charging accounts during COVID-19 and are freezing all account so they can't cancel.
Negative experience: This place is a freaking joke. After texting me asking if I wanted to auto renew my membership and me responding no, they did it anyway. Getting corporate to answer the phone is impossible. How do you auto renewal a 2 year contract at the one year mark?? They sent me to collections or tried sending me to collections. I can’t wait to report to the BBB. Count your days Max.
Negative experience: Cannot cancel membership. Being overcharged. Never seen this amount taken by this gym. Business said they were pausing memberships but I'm still being charged. The company is designed to trap people into memberships. TERRIBLE.
Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. I had a terrible experience at Max Fitness. When trying to cancel my membership they continued to charge my account even after I had talked with multiple employees, and each told me different information about my membership. I would not sign any contracts here again, and cannot wait until my membership is finally cancelled. Their customer service department cannot get on the same page and they tried to tell me that I was lying when I tried to explain what the other employees told me. Absolutely worst experience I’ve had with any kind of customer service.
