Negative experience: How do they have Connie still working there? She has the most absolute worst attitude and is a very horrible person.

Fantastic experience: Great club! So thankful for this place!

Negative experience: I cancelled my membership before I moved and I was continually charged because I did not have proof that I dropped the form at the front desk. If you cancel, you should be sure to get documentation.

Negative experience: Not worth your hardworking money please find another place to go. The staff are very rude and disrespectful and have no customer service skills. The place is not clean and I definitely know this place is very racist. They are not very helpful to black people from a few instances I have noticed since coming here but I will certainly finding another place.

Negative experience: Been a member for 22 yrs but resigned; hot tub repeatedly broken for long periods; condition of shower/hot tub area is not good; issues regarding written agreement have been dismissed; emails, requests, or phone calls not returned; I have video of deplorable condition of hot tub but too large to email; I tried to share with employees but ignored.

Fantastic experience: The Athletic Club Northeast has been my "home away from home" for many many years. I could work out anywhere cheaper (even Silver Sneakers, for free.) However, the staff, particularly, Kaniel, and so many others, are so accommodating, friendly and helpful that I love being at a club with this atmosphere!! I love the pool and swim 3 times a week. In between, I ride the Lifecycle and walk on the treadmill. As I said, it's a friendly atmosphere, and I've made lasting friendships here, while working out!!!!

Fantastic experience: The place is clean people are friendly worth your time and money! Everyone is helpful and professional at all times. Staff makes sure they can assist you with all that you need, and they work with you so that you and your guest have the best experience each and every time! Joining the club is one of the best decisions I've made this year! Invest in yourself and join the club today!

Negative experience: Very Angry how i have in writing that my membership had been canceled. I had been told multiple times my membership had been canceled after they attempted to pull money from my account again …My membership Actually stopped and now i just received a notice that i am in collections for a payment that should have NEVER been charged!!!! Be aware of what they are doing. MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!

Fantastic experience: Great place to use outdoor pool for adults to relax and kids to play. Good indoor pool for lap swimming. Ladies Locker room is kept very clean. Plenty of towels. Great tennis courts. Plenty of cardio equipment. Popular basketball court. They are adding new classes for workouts.

Negative experience: Beware and make sure familiar with cancellation policy. This club requires three months continued membership even after notifying to cancel. I did not pay by check, rather by debit card. I emailed that I was moving and wanted to cancel the membership. Received email that is was cancelled, but no mention of future charges. My debit card number changed during this time, and they were unable to charge my card. Thought the email from member services was sufficient for cancellation. I later receive an email that they are going to turn my account over to a collections agency. Received a detailed ledger, and they had racked up charges of "return check fees." Allowed the fees to be waived ONLY if I paid a certain amount in less than a week. As far as the actual club goes, the facilities are bare bones. The actual weight training area is small and caters more to cable machines. The cardio room is just OK, lots of the machines are older. The locker rooms are decent and provide more amenities than cookie cutter gyms. Hot tub and steam room frequently are out of order. Clean gym but could use a little renovation. Front desk workers seem to be kind but wish they would be more upfront about cancellation policy and future charges they try to tack on to your account. Hate when there is secrecy or deceptiveness in businesses that have monthly memberships so rating is reflective of that alone.

Positive experience: I am a new member to the club and have enjoyed my experience thus far. My sales associate Kaniel has been super helpful and informative and has readily answered any questions I have had. I have also found the other members of the staff that I have encountered to be very friendly and helpful as well. I chose this club over other local gyms because of the variety and quantity of classes offered, indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and sense of security in the parking area. While other places around may be less expensive and more updated I definitely feel that this club offers a better total experience if you are looking to keep your workouts exciting.

Negative experience: I really do believe this place has a lot of potential. There’s space here. Basketball, racket ball, tennis, 2 weight rooms, etc. but the reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the potential has not been met. It’s extremely dirty (I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a MRSA outbreak), the gym equipment is archaic and unkempt, and most importantly to me, it seems that the higher ups are more concerned with pomp and an outward appearance of class while neglecting its employees and patrons. The main goal of a gym is 1 thing: a place to escape the daily strain of life and do what you love, be it lifting, sport or social activity. Recently, I’ve noticed the staff are having to dress in business casual apparel… to work at a gym. That alone is a clear sign that management is completely out of touch with what makes this facility successful as it sets a precedent that there is more of a focus on aesthetics than actual fitness. Stay in your lane ACNE… be a fitness facility and stop trying to be some pretentious old folks country club that doesn’t even have a golf course. Let the staff wear regular clothing again. Buy some equipment that’s <20 years old with the $130 you charge/month and get back to being what you’re meant to be.

R (rainismlove18) 2 years ago

Negative experience: This is one of the most depressing “gyms” I have been to. The equipment is unclean or frequently out of order. The locker rooms smell stale and musty, and the managers are weasels. They try to snake you out of your money with deceptive cancellation policies and are dodgy with emails and phone calls. They would not cancel my membership even after I submitted proper documentation per policy and kept charging my card. Front desk workers always had a nasty attitude. It was a disgusting, gross facility overall. I would recommend saving your money for a better gym.

John Benthal 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: The Body Pump and step classes are great. Tina and Angela are amazing instructors. The layout of this club is the best part with lots of room. You are never on top of someone else in the locker room or on the workout floor. Parking is great for my big Yukon and I feel safe. Yes, there is room for improvements and upgrades, but it is still one the best in Atlanta.

Carson Barnett 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: The BEST gym to be a member. This gym will have everything you'll need for a workout. Membership includes all the essentials for showering after your workout. All you'll need to bring is a change of clothes. I am able to work out during my lunchbreak and shower before returning to work. Kaniel is awesome! He will make sure you are satisfied with your membership before you sign the contract. This gym really has everything you'll need.

John DEMAY 2 years ago

Negative experience: The worst gym to attend and even have a membership for. The staff are openly discriminatory to any race that is not white. The gym was very dirty with mold growing in the corners in the bathroom. I saw a black man ask a question and the person working there was very ill-mannered and caused quite a bit of a disruption for no reason. The gym has continued to go downhill especially the workers they are bringing in so its just time for me to find a new gym. I will no longer continue my membership.

Kenneth Ospital 2 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible experience here. I asked to cancel after 1.5 months of membership here, person told me he would take care of it, then I get email 2.5 months later saying I owe $300. My account never got canceled, apparently accounts cannot be canceled until you’ve been a member for 3 months (I was never made aware of this). This is extremely unethical and I will never do business here again. Please save your time and money and find a different gym.

Positive experience: I've belonged to this club for a long time. There are ups and downs, but I always return because of the spaciousness and amenities. The building is old, but it's not dirty -- just signs of age, kids. I tried other local gyms last year. Hugely crowded, sweaty, heaving, maskless people, eating lunch in the sauna, tiny dressing area, co-ed jacuzzi, no thanks! ACN has a big women's jacuzzi, big pool, outdoor pool -- very much worth it.

Fantastic experience: Great place! Member for awhile now and it is booming here. Got word from the management that they are going to paint the walls update the look of the club. Also they're soon going to update the tennis court area, and the outdoor pool area. I was informed also that corporate was here and mandated the change which was music to my ears! I'm glad this club still exist in my area.

Patrick ODonnell 3 years ago

Positive experience: I could join other gyms that are much cheaper especially since I basically use the gym and cardio and not the other services provided. One amenity I do like to use are the hot tub/ steam room and sauna after a hard workout. However the steam room is constantly in and out of service. Not sure why there is such a problem with it especially since the gym was closed for about a year during covid which would have been the perfect time to get it up and running. I'm reading plans for painting and other updates and would like to see the steam room a priority.

Negative experience: I signed up for a promo trial that was being run at the time for me and my girlfriend, after making a few trips over the course of the trail, we decided the club wasn’t for us so on the last day of the trail I went in to cancel. An employee tried to tell me the trial had ended, but I knew this not to be true because I put the end in my calendar as we signed the membership agreement. After speaking with the employee he let me know that the employee who signed us up was known for mistakes like this and was sympathetic to my situation and said since billing didn’t have my card info yet, to just ignore any calls I got. Well today I got a call from a collections agency for nearly $800... Who sends someone to collections for a gym membership they didn’t even want? I was looking to refinance my home and now that’s on hold due to this crooked organization. There are plenty of other gyms that offer so much more for a much more reasonable price. For the sake of your credit NEVER sign an agreement here.

cheryl rosenblum 5 years ago

Negative experience: I spoke to a membership person And he agreed to a 90 day membership. I have this is writing . I have been disputing the charges for the past 120 days. They fired the guy who I spoke to and told me that he was fired for promising things that weren’t true . I was told the price was 129 for 90 days and was I have been charged non stop for an additional 90 days . tThe athletic club should take responsibility as they are not disputing my claim . . Even though they agree I am right and that they fired their employee , they have not handled this and once again I saw a charge and I now have to dispute it again and cancel my card! poor service beware!!

James Egan 5 years ago

Negative experience: Beware of providing payment info. I did a one day trial, and decided not to proceed with membership. I let them know on the spot. I was then charged nearly $300 over the following three months despite my written cancellation, and it has been more than 10 days and additional forms and still no refund. Please beware before giving them your payment information.

Sylvia Penson 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: I really enjoy this place it’s my go to place to get away and relax and to work out! It has everything I need sauna whirlpool steam club cash for massages! and personal training sessions ♥️‼️All for the same price I was paying at my other gym; one stop shop for me.

Todd V Harris 5 years ago

Negative experience: Everyone was attentive until it was time for a refund. I asked if I could pay after the tour-Tara told me it would not be a problem but then charged me even though i changed my mind after the tour. Days later the money has not been refunded to my card and no one seems to have information. I have left several messages with Lazarus to return my call.....nothing to date....His office voicemail is full....Every week I am going to update this review on my media show The Blunt Truth.....this is unacceptable behavior. I got phone calls every week when I was thinking about joining......now it’s nothing but crickets

Jesus Tejada 5 years ago

Negative experience: Beware this club sent me to collections for 216 dollars after telling me I had club cash available. I used it for three tennis classes then after canceling they sent me to collection for these classes. That I was supposed to cover with club cash that this guy offered me while signing up. Also there is a 30 day cancellation notice. Basically even if you cancel they will still charge you one month. The installations are outdated and not worth 110 dollars at month. Drew and I talked before I canceled and he pretended everything was fixed I even gave him my credit card to cover the last expenses, to find out months later I was being called and chased to cover some “court expenses”. I will be contacting a lawyer if they keep trying to reach me or affect my credit with this fraud.. The crowed is mostly elderly white people. FYI.

Patrick Palmer 5 years ago

Positive experience: The gym is adequate but my main draw is the indoor heated pool. The place needs an update badly. The staff does a poor job keeping it clean which is super important when their product they are selling hasn’t aged well. Staff is courteous and friendly. Clean the tiles walls in the locker rooms, clean the carpets, repaint those tired colors in the pool so it will cover up the dirt streaks staining the walls. I had to tell them to wash the shower curtains.

Carol P 5 years ago

Negative experience: I can see the folks who have been there for years might enjoy (same billing monthly, nothing new for current staff to handle), but I found the lack of customer service and oversight appalling. Finally cancelled. Joined January. 4 separate and distinct billing errors. Could not get help with even 1. Billing handled in Colorado. Contacted 6 people; passed back and forth between CO and GA. Member account online has no transaction history, so you have to contact CO. Similar to facilities is outdated. Indoor pool is never crowded. Instructors are top-notch. Doesn’t compensate for overbillings. Too many gyms and life is too short.

Evan M 5 years ago

Negative experience: I am not sure why I agreed to sign up for a membership here other than the salesperson, Drew Greene, was persistent. He wiggled his way into my pocket and all I truly wanted was a pool with low chlorine. When I first entered the gym it smelled like chlorine but the pool was down the hall, 50 yards away. I decided to take the tour either way. The atmosphere is like a huge bank vault with geriatric money holding up the walls. The energy was off with lack of ventilation. This is most likely why the club was nearly empty and asked over $125 a month for a single member. They offered me a 2 week trial and a 4 month contract with a $50 sign up fee and the first month free. I had a busy first month with work and did not make it in. I asked to have my contract terminated at the end of the free month and said they are welcome to keep my $50 initiation fee in lieu of my late notice. My request was rejected and I put a stop payment on their billing. I was not offered an out and they tacked on late fees as well sent me to collections for $500. I never set foot in the gym. This place is desperate for clientele and obviously can not keep up with the relative costs and services of gyms locally and nationwide.

Fantastic experience: Northeast Athletic Club is the best . Whether you want to take a class, work out on your own or even play a little tennis. They have it all1

Dnk Page 6 years ago

Negative experience: Its a dying gym. The members that remain have belonged for 30 plus years. It’s beyond disrepair. It’s just a gross, old gym. The roof leaks, the sauna has nails protruding from the wood, the cardio area is depressing and the pool is closed half the time.

Mo Kim 6 years ago

Positive experience: I’m saying 3 stars because everything is great, but some of the clients need to learn Gym etiquette. You can’t kick someone off during the middle of their set because you think they should be somewhere else. Other then the rudeness the gym is great.

YM T 6 years ago

Negative experience: I went to this facility to play a league tennis match against a member. As soon as I entered, staff asked me to sign a "liability waiver". I said Sure, began to fill it out (on a tablet) and when I got to the "email" line, I said jokingly, "You're not going to send me emails are you?". The staffer said Yes. But you can just opt out of them. I told him I didn't want to sign that. I was fine with the waiver, but not with giving them my personal info so they could advertise to me. He told me I would have to if I wanted to play my match there. I immediately left, to try to reach my opponent on the phone. I came back and there was another staffer at the desk. He assured me that it was just a standard liability waiver. He was friendly about it, and I was just about to sign when I actually read the full extent of what I was about to check "I agree" to. There it was in print: "I consent to receive texts, emails, and/or phone calls...." This is deceptive and tacky. I've played league matches all over Atlanta at fitness clubs and country clubs, and have never been asked to sign anything. It isn't like I was a club guest who might injure myself on weight machines. I was there to play tennis. This policy needs to change. Here's a suggestion: If a guest doesn't want to sign away their personal info, have another option - an actual liability waiver that simply requires a signature. I would have preferred writing this directly to the club manager, but when I asked for a card so that I could contact the manager directly, the staffer said "Sure, but first I'm going to need you to go ahead and sign the form." That's when I turned and walked out. We played at my home courts.

Fantastic experience: This is one of the best health clubs in the city. The whole facility is clean and well maintained. Nice pool and the club even has sauna and steam rooms. One of my favorite clubs in Atlanta and I've been to a few for sure. Great staff. A+

Malika JustMalika 6 years ago

Positive experience: I enjoyed the gym, but the lack of diversity was a bit of an issue for me. There were times that I'd cheerfully greet people and be completely ignored. Don't get me wrong, some people were super friendly and the staff was awesome, but I paid a ton of money to be completely ignored on a regular basis. I know that some of the members had been regulars for years on end, but that doesn't justify being rude or snotty just because I'm new and younger (many of the clients are far older than myself). I'm currently looking for a new gym where diversity is more a part of the culture.

Josh Dougherty 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: MJ has been a wonderful trainer for me over the past couple of months. I am lifting more than I ever have been able to in the past and learning how to do a multitude of lifts that I was never able to do before. The facility is very clean and well kept. Thanks!

Keith Hansen 7 years ago

Negative experience: Absolutely filthy facility. Mold in the locker room. Maintenance personnel spraying ant killer on the pool deck while swimming. Rude and indifferent staff. Old equipment in disrepair. Absolutely terrible experience at Northeast Athletic Club. There are many other options nearby that offer much better service and value. Stay away!

Joeli Candi 7 years ago

Positive experience: Been a daily attendee for the past 20 years. True, the membership is $100+ a month. Great variety of services and sports. I recommend you be someone who hits the club 4 or more times a week. You will not get your money's worth going 1-2 times a week. Water facilities do require maintenance and can occasionally be out for days, still best wet area in Atlanta.

Jonathan Yaeger 7 years ago

Positive experience: I've been a long term member (since the 80's), primarily a swimmer. The pool and hot tub are frequently out of commission. The club is comparatively old, and it shows. Membership costs are unusually high; they go up every year without fail, even though the club is not maintained to the standards of their other properties. I find that management is, on the whole, unresponsive. Letters go unanswered; complaints fail to be addressed. I'd quit tomorrow if I could find comparable pool facilities.

Cody 83 7 years ago

Negative experience: We joined so that my 3-year old could take swimming lessons. In short, the facilities are very dirty and the pools were frequently closed. Swim instructors usually only lasted a few weeks, and no one ever called to let us know that the instructor would be a no show. Management is apathetic at best, and it is very difficult to cancel your membership.

Fantastic experience: I enjoy my experience there. Everything you want from tennis courts to great hoop courts and awesome amenities. Sauna, whirlpool, steam room and everything. Spacious and not over crowded. A little pricy, but worth it IMO

Negative experience: Idiotic employees who do not know how to take a payment in full??Amenities are not clean nor up to date!Go to La Fitness instead!Management are a bunch of dumb monkeys(Located in Colorado)!! Paid every month in cash for 8 years at the rate of $180 a month, What was I thinking??Want to cancel? Good luck as they make you jump through all types of hoops. Expect for it to be sent to collections with no evidence on their end that money is owed.

Larry Z 9 years ago

Negative experience: Can't I give no stars? Where to begin? Read previous negative reviews, I have experienced same. Membership accounting is awful, when you bring mistakes to their attention, they treat you with disdain and refuse to correct anything. Instead as a professional charging clients $400/hour, I have to listen to gobbly gook excuses. The worst is the ick factor in this place. Old, strange, rotten clientele. How can you get pumped up to work out with ancient half dead guys with attitude farting, seating profusely, and grunting in the weight room? One was so uptight he wouldn't let me work in between sets on the machines with him. Really And the locker room, its people plus condition is too gross to describe here. Moldy - both people and building surfaces. You are better off just running around the block and doing some basic moves on your own. Stay far far away from this nasty place. It just needs to be demolished and something else needs to go here.

Michael Thomason 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: An amazing gym... A unique gym in downtown Atlanta. You will be hard pressed to find another gym nicer in the city. Great weights, clean and kept, pleasant staff, excellent cardio and classes, and the 25m 6 lane lap pool rocks. Only negative is the locker rooms need a face lift. Have never regretted by membership. An oasis in the city! I'm not sure I agree with the numerous cancellation issues recently. I just had a friend cancel that was moving and he has no issues.

Emily Macke 9 years ago

Positive experience: Great gym catering to families, and middle age + adults. Love that they have an affordable daycare facility. My only complaint would be the gym is showing its age and could use some upgrades, especially since it has a premium price $$$. I could see myself being lured away if a Lifetime opened up nearby.

Courtney B 10 years ago

Negative experience: JUST DONT really, take every ones advice and don't go here. It is over priced, small, and cancelling your membership is a nightmare. I paid for two extra months that I did not need. When I called to cancel my membership in March it was not made clear to me that I needed to come and physically cancel my membership. I was out of town when I made that call. When I went to the club for my last month of membership I was seen several times and could have been reminded to sign the sheet that needed to be signed, yet no staff made that clear to me. I am very upset, because I was convinced that my membership was over last month and that I did not have to make further payments. I am a young professional just out of college and can not afford to make these payments, that where not in my budget. Again, it was not made clear to me that I needed to sign, and staff could have reminded me several times.

Edward Smith 11 years ago

Positive experience: A very large centre, probably it is more expensive from the other ones nearby. I'm training there twice a week a tennis and swimming. I don'tknow about the others but for me, that the place is very pleasant. I don't feel like I'm wasting my money at all .

sd ff 11 years ago

Negative experience: Same cancellation nightmare others have experienced. Michael the membership person, is creepy. Club is old, its members are even older everyone is ancient and they just keep coming because they joined 75 years ago and their rate was "grandfathered" in apparently. The staff seem to be constantly fixing something or other in this decrepid place but everything still looks run down and outdated. What made me quit was their childcare Blast, has staff who yell at kids and say mean things to them. My son cut his face falling on a sharp object in the floor. They are the only gym in the area which isn't crowded, and sometimes I think of coming back, but reflecting on my experience makes me realize this place just isn't healthy. Stay away.
