Our comment from FitFit United States about Cooper Street Branch YMCA:
Cooper Street Branch YMCA in Arlington, United States, is a community-oriented facility that offers a variety of programs and amenities for families and individuals. Many users have highlighted the friendly and helpful staff, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all members. The gym is equipped with modern machines, a swimming pool, and plenty of exercise classes suitable for both young and adult members.
However, some users have reported issues with cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities, noting that certain equipment has been out of order for extended periods. Additionally, there have been complaints regarding the pool hours being limited and poor communication from staff, especially concerning class schedules and cancellations.
Despite these concerns, many community members appreciate the variety of sports programs available for children, as well as the excellent childcare services provided during their workouts. The YMCA has also been praised for its outdoor trail for walking and running, making it a well-rounded option for fitness enthusiasts.
Overall, the Cooper Street Branch YMCA offers a good combination of facilities and programs, though improvements in communication and upkeep are recommended to maximize member satisfaction.
Cooper Street Branch YMCA: Opinions

Negative experience: You will immediately regret providing them your card info. Charges are unfounded and membership is difficult to cancel. All I wanted was before school care and was charge multiple times for a membership I do not want or need. I can get no one on the phone to discuss my issues.
Negative experience: This was the second time my kids have went to their parents night out and my son (5) had a horrible experience. It's been 3 hours since I picked him up and he's been crying since about being mistreated. Having someone pick on him and the staff knowing and not doing anything about it. We will definitely not be returning to this location.
Negative experience: Facilities are never fully operational
Negative experience: Worse ymca, they charge big money and do not clean or have enough space. Please shop around
Fantastic experience: Staff was super friendly really enjoyed my interaction with these guys
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff
Negative experience: It used to be soooo much better. One of the membership selling points is that there is free weekend child care on Saturday evenings. They USED to have it. Now it's 25 spots for thousands of members to fight over. I've tried to get my kids a spot for months to no avail. Furthermore, they got rid of 1/3 of their machines and the younger crows sits on them playing for 10 minutes between reps. I wasn't able to finish my workout today because 2 machines were taken by younger members (late teens, early 20's) playing on their phones. They were on them for 30 minutes. MY membership for a family of 5 is about 200 a month. I can get a way cheaper membership from Lifetime. Please shop around and really see if you would get value for your money before committing to YMCA.
Negative experience: Worst experience ever, I called them and asked about pool hours and she said open from 5am to noon then from 730pm to 845pm and I drove for 30 mins to get kids in indoor pool, as we got there we checked in and lady asked us are you in swimming lessons I said no we here for public swimming as called you earlier. My 3 kids changed their clothes and got ready for swimming and were so excited, as we got in the pool the other lady said we can’t swim because it’s not open for public. My kids were so sad and very disappointed. Such a wasted time, money, gas. Front desks lady the (African American)she didn’t care about anything she didn’t even sorry, she’s soooooo rude. She just turned around and acted like she didn’t hear or care
Fantastic experience: Pretty decent workout spot, there is an indoor pool but the public swim timing in the evening is after 7:45pm. You get a pretty decent gym with lots of treadmills and cardio equipments. If there could be a area for warmups and stretching that would be an added benefit
Negative experience: This gym has limited pool hours, lots of unattended kids in the gym area, a lifeguard that is scared on duty and we had to wait to get them to call a back up guard then today wasn't happy with treatment from the younger man with longer hair when trying to cancel my contract (on the website it even says no contract)i was unaware as they never gave me said packet then was told i can't cancel all people under my account we all had to come in and sign to cancel then he was saying I was lying and made some comments about me to the other people very unprofessional and ended in $80 of additional fees all i wanted was clarification and to cancel the attitude wasn't needed and who wants to keep coming and deal with the people that made you 100% want to cancel I called and left a message for the membership women and hope to get a call back
Fantastic experience: I mean it is what it is
Fantastic experience: Great place and good people.
Fantastic experience: Awesome trail behind the way for outdoor workouts
Positive experience: Great place for a class or to workout.
Negative experience: I went recently for aqua exercise classes. Good class & nice locker rooms w/showers.
Positive experience: I fell in love with YMCA after I got my daughter. They have wonderful sport programs for kids who want to play any sports for fun. The best part is that while the kid is busy, you can exercise. One thing is sad that they suddenly changed Taekwando to a different Marshall art club without telling us. My daughter was really upset about it, and now we will take Taekwando somewhere else.
Fantastic experience: Great Christian environment.
Fantastic experience: For great value of experience, it is the best place to go.
Fantastic experience: Love the YMCA!
Fantastic experience: Cooper Street Branch YMCA
Fantastic experience: lots of classes to choose from
Fantastic experience: Love the Y.
Negative experience: Why does it close at 5
Positive experience: Great family oriented place to work out
Fantastic experience: Clean and friendly. Some new machines.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff! The facility is always clean.
Positive experience: Good cardio and resistance equipment, classes for young people and adults, swimming pool, nice installations and amenities
Fantastic experience: I attend mainly silver sneakers classes. They are great .great instructors ,great programs. .
Negative experience: Horrible experience they definitely need to train these lifeguards on manners will never go again they don't let you swim in peace, and complain about you swinging .wow what is a pool for.
Fantastic experience: Nice place to bring kids and to workout. They also have an indoor pool. Staff very friendly.
Negative experience: If you want to enjoy a swim don't come here the kid lifeguards complain about every little thing you can't even enjoy a swim without them literally staring at you the whole time while you trying to swim the worst experience ever go to the recreation center in Arlington you will love it found us a wonderful spot.
Negative experience: Would not recommend swim lessons here. God forbid you have a unexpected life emergency, they don't offer makeup courses. My 4 yr old son was in a car accident last week and missed 3 classes, the aquatic director told me she would only issue partial refund if I got a letter from my son Dr saying physically he couldn't participate due to the car accident. Disgusting, as if we aren't already dealing with enough. Where's the YMCA Core Values, I will be finding a different aquatics center to spend my money.
Negative experience: The place is Nasty and needs to be fixed. The place needs lots of work doors broken, and all the showers leak 24 x7 also. The mens locker room is a disaster !!
Fantastic experience: I love the atmosphere, the staff, and the friends I've made here. Great place to workout at. The trainers are very knowledgeable and helpful! Thank you YMCA at Cooper in Arlington!
Fantastic experience: I took my Mother (a senior) to ask for information about a membership there. I was there to help her translate since she isn’t fluent in English. Thankfully Carolina was there at the front desk and she helped my Mom sooooo much. She was very kind, helpful and pleasant. My mom Decided to get the membership that same day, I think what closed the deal after Carolina gave us a tour of the place; was that my mom felt comfortable enough knowing there was someone who speaks Spanish. Thank you Carolina for being so nice to my Mom you are truly an important asset to YMCA. ❤️
Negative experience: Trying to get in contact with the swim department is a black hole. The sessions are only 4 weeks long. Half of them were such a headache because Izzy never answers her email & waits until the last minute to cancel or make changes to classes. Classes were canceled for spring break & I haven’t gotten a single email regarding that. Managers have even emailed Izzy asking her to contact me & there’s never a response. The only time her name ever appears in my inbox is when she does an all send. The front desk is lovely, & I’m sure the other departments are great, but the swim department is a joke.
Negative experience: I signed my 1 yr up for swimming lessons. I got there got in the pool with the instructor. After about 10 min I ask were we going to do any activities, she said no we are just letting the babies get use to the water. So the entire time I played with my baby on my own. I could have just taken him to the pool, I didnt need to pay extra money for that. Horrible, she could have talked about water safety with the parent....something. About 30 mins she comes over to me and tell me the class is over....What fing class, I'm so disappointed!!!!
Positive experience: Came from out of town and the staff are nice facility is decent even though it’s old…my only issue is the basketball court and how the old people take it up back to back with classes even in the in between time they are setting up for a new class which is not considerate. Would be nice if they had other rooms for classes so the court could be used more for those who want to play ball earlier in the day. Still a decent location.
Positive experience: Outstanding childcare. Great classes. Aquatics needs to get it together. Because of the ice storm they rescheduled all of the swim lessons for the week on one night not leaving any lap lanes open. I pay $75 a month and the pool is dirty and the aquatics staff doesn't run the schedule the way members are counting on. Kids sitting in their phones in the aquatics office need to clean the pool. Trent at the front is awesome. Put him in charge.
Fantastic experience: THE NICEST PEOPLE working in admin!!! So friendly, great customer service! Answer phone calls and emails QUICKLY! Love the Y! and so do my kids!!!
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Fantastic experience: I love this place, they take really good care of kids!!!!!! Great program
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and I don't have to feel self conscious about my size!
Fantastic experience: The staff is always friendly. Nice family atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: Nice one
Fantastic experience: Cooper Street Branch YMCA
Fantastic experience: Grate place to stay
Thanks for your positive feedback!
Positive experience: Just went to the Red Cross blood draw
Negative experience: Got kicked out for wearing slides but the gym is alright
Fantastic experience: It is a great place I have been going there for a long time!
Positive experience: Nice, modern machines. My favorite is the swimming pool.
Positive experience: Awesome place for any activity, weekends is kind of sad it's only open for a few hours.
Positive experience: Very nice gym although they need to do better in maintenance on the little things.
Positive experience: The gym for the adult was great and the basketball court was great a lot of other things but except there was a fight there at the Y
Fantastic experience: Wow. I'm taking swimming lessons here. The parking lot was full at 10am. Very good family environment
Negative experience: Associates are telling me different times the pool is open within the same day, now I have some sad little children that was excited to go swimming and now we cannot...very disappointing. Get your staff on the same page please!!
Negative experience: Mike warren is an inappropriate referee that is rude and disrespectful in front of the kids and when reported continued to yell at me and his argument wasnt with me. but other team them yelled at me to shut up and several rude and disrespectful comments in front of both teams of kids has no respect for others....the y is a safe haven for these children and this mike warren should not be around children..
Negative experience: Sad to say we canceled our membership today. My family had been members for well over a decade, and we have many great memories there. But, like a lot of things, it has lost its quality/value. Maintenance is a huge issue for this location, and has been for the last few years. Exercise equipment stay broken for months. Staffing levels have shrunk to a point where I don't think they can cover all their bases. WIFI never seems to be available. When I came in person to cancel, no one even asked me why we are leaving, or could they do anything to retain us. Just simply said, "OK, sign here". I can no longer recommend this location.
Positive experience: I am enjoying the swimming pool early in the morning. It is not too crowded. However, the water pressure in the shower in the women's locker room is very low. I can hardly take the shower that I am supposed to take before getting into the pool.
Fantastic experience: Great place to enjoy your life with family
Fantastic experience: The staff is very nice and greet you once you enter the doors. Pete was knowledgeable and enrolled me for the aquatic clasd.
Fantastic experience: Had the opportunity to participate in a event sharing food, and culture. Great place and great people with good energy and vibes, thank you for the welcome
Fantastic experience: Great location to workout, excellent equipment and staff. They even recently had a makeover of the facility. Thank you Arlington YMCA for your consistency in making my workout experience Great!
Fantastic experience: Wow. I'm taking swimming lessons here. The parking lot was full at 10am. Very good family environment
Fantastic experience: It is a great place I have been going there for a long time!
Fantastic experience: I have been part of the YMCA family for over 25 years! Beautiful people! Trying to teach my boys to lift our own weight! One step at a time! Awesome facility!
Fantastic experience: Cooper is a big Y. The staff are great to work with and really make it a point to provide a great membership experience.
Fantastic experience: This place is my home away from home! The energy here is incredible with both staff and members. They are so loving and caring, and keep me motivated.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out. Clean facility. Plenty of options . Super helpful staff and friendly members!!!
Fantastic experience: Chris on the front desk was very helpful and patient with this newbie. So far, this place has been great!
Fantastic experience: Grate place to stay
Fantastic experience: For all of you trying to cancel, you have to go to the main branch off Pioneer. As far as service goes, I liked it while I was there. My children took swim lessons, dance, martial arts, and participated in various sports. Coach Snyder is the best! I cancelled because I moved and no longer needed the after school care and the drive was a tad too far. My children ask to return all of the time.
Thank you Tamika for your feedback. We're glad you and your family enjoyed your experience at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA!
Fantastic experience: I loved the friendliness of the staff. They were so helpful and welcoming. The lady at the front desk who signed me up knew everyone by name. That type of personal touch meant a lot to me.
Fantastic experience: My water aerobics class is awesome.
Fantastic experience: Everyone is awesome and helpful and friendly people I enjoyed going th
Thank you Dora for your positive feedback. We're glad you had a great experience at the Y!
Fantastic experience: Best sevirvce becaus ewhen i was swimibg they gave me goggles and stuff
Fantastic experience: Staff very professional and the equipment layout allows membets to navigate more efficiently to complete workout.
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful first visit at this Ymca, will be becoming a new member. Can't wait to do water aerobics cuz I simply love it.
Positive experience: Decent gym
Negative experience: Mrs. Dominique is all the time late for her swimming class
Positive experience: Very nice staff and good layout of the machines.
Negative experience: I am very disappointed with this gym as I canceled my membership 4-23-19 and have still today 10-19-2020 being charged without them agreeing to give any money back at all. Don't let this place have your bank card information period
Negative experience: The personal trainer program is a joke. Limited trainers (2) and very poor communication to talk to someone after I paid. I Basically lost money for that program. Very disappointed and not satisfied. Would recommend another gym for qualified personal trainer.
Negative experience: I forgot about the experience I had previously trying to cancel my family membership. No one answers the phones. No returns your emails and forget trying to do it in person. You stand in line forever because only one person is manning the station and you end up having to leave. Beware! This extends your membership and continues to cost you $$$ because you can't cancel your membership!
Negative experience: I’ve sent numerous emails trying to get information about how I can use the personal training I paid for. I called and was told I receive a call back and never did. Went to the Mansfield location with no one who could help me. I signed my kids up for camp and sent emails asking questions to the email provided for camp related activities. Never received a response. I went into the ymca site and filled out the contact us section 3 times with no response. I recently joined and have paid over $200 in fees for membership, personal training and kids activities for my kids and received nothing but my money taken. I would like my $99 refunded for the personal training I paid for and the $60 I paid for my kids sports. I’ve joined my local recreation center who has been wonderful to me and my kids compared to my experience with YMCA.
Positive experience: Good facilities with friendly staff. Features weights, aerobic machines, gym, indoor pool and wooded walking trail.
Thank you Martin for your positive feedback!
Fantastic experience: Have been a member for almost 6 years. We love the YMCA! The atmosphere is great, classes are good, and childcare is wonderful!
Fantastic experience: I’m a longtime YMCA participating member and former board member from Tucson Arizona. Cooper Street is a great branch Y. The equipment, staff, and upkeep of the facility are impressive. I visit family in Arlington often. My daughter and her husband have now become family members of the Cooper Street YMCA.
Fantastic experience: Clean, comfortable and fun!
Fantastic experience: My husband and I enjoy the water arobic classes given by Jackie. She helps us pace ourselves and gives us options if we are unable( due to physical limitation) to work our muscles or balance ourselves
Fantastic experience: Great environment. Resources for the whole fam.!
Fantastic experience: Love this place. It has everything you need in a fitness facility. Pool, basketball courts, aerobic rooms, cycling, up to date exercise and cardio equipment. No better cycling instructors in all DFW especially Tawney and Claudia M-W-F in the mornings. I'll put Tawney against any instructor you think is the best, she is fantastic. Oscar up in the front desk is terrific too very friendly and hard working. Highly recommend this YMCA.
Fantastic experience: Welcoming and very helpful.
Negative experience: Lots of people, too many! hard to work!
Positive experience: Post-COVID 19, your experience here will be completely different. There will be temperature checks at the entrance and different entry/exit points for everyone. Markers are present such you will always remember to socially distance and you will have to make reservations for the gym and group exercise classes.
Fantastic experience: This YMCA is a great place and the staff is great too but the people have got worst. The kids dont have respect for others and u cant blame the kid its the the parents fault. Then u have the women on the treadmill that just go to walk and talk. And talk loud like everyone else wants to hear ur conversation. Oh then there is a new 1. This lady walks the treadmill and sings and u can see everyone that hears her doesn't like it and what does she do she sings louder to make sure to show u she doesn't care if u like it or not. It wouldn't so bad if the singing was good but the singing is horrible but however she thinks it's cute how she is getting on everyone's nerves around her. But this YMCA is a great place if the members would treat others the way they like to b treated
Fantastic experience: Excellent!!
Fantastic experience: Very nice place, friendly I also work out and Jose is why I join again he is very polite and friendly. I take swimming exercise from Jackey she is very good, friendly and you can tell she care's it is not fake she is for real all of us appreciate her so much my body is not sore when I get done. The women I talk to all like her very much.
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Very Helpful! Especially this girl Shelbi, she manages everything so wonderfully!
