Negative experience: About two months ago, I signed up at this location. On the registration day, I was offered a special personal-training package. There is a person named Joe who works there and is responsible for the personal-trainer program. I specifically asked whether I could cancel at any time, and they told me “yes.” After the sessions started, I realized that the designated area for personal training did not have good facilities and was not clean. I requested to cancel the program. To my surprise, they charged me another $285. This is extremely disappointing, especially considering the poor quality of the training environment. The person handling the registration was not honest; they only seemed to care about business and charging people, not about quality or proper management. From today on, I will never set foot in this club again. It is shameful to charge a student like this and refuse to cancel the service while providing such inadequate facilities. I will first contact LA Fitness, and then I will report this issue to my bank for future transactions I am fully prepared for any legal dispute with any individual or with this club, because it is my right to receive proper facilities and having respect when I pay for a service. I was lied to on the very first day, and what happened today is the result of that dishonesty. Sorry for Ann Arbor Sorry for the people who goes there

Fantastic experience: LA Fitness has it all for the fitness enthusiast. The facility is clean and well maintained. A wide variety of machines, equipment, classes, sauna and pool are available. Although I must confess my favorite added benefit is having my personal trainer - SCOTT! Scott is knowledgeable, professional, encouraging, and simply the best! I look forward to our time with him weekly. He makes my journey to fitness seem possible and actually fun! Now that’s a gift. Fantastic experience: Two months ago I signed up with Ann Arbor LA Fitness. As a senior citizen I greatly appreciated the opportunities afforded to me with free membership at 65 and Silver Sneakers. Joe registered my friend and I and asked if we considered getting a trainer. We did, and I am so grateful. Our trainer Scott is excellent! He is personable, experienced, and listens to our needs and requests. His explanations are clear including safety reminders, and is gradual in increasing reps/weights. Negative experience: Beware: This LA Fitness location repeatedly closes the pool and spa with little or no explanation. Sometimes the pool is shut down for a month without any clear notice to members. Very disappointing for anyone who needs consistent pool access.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love training here. The private personal training area is amazing super clean, spacious, and has everything you need! My favorite trainer is Scott Dwyer, who always keeps me motivated and makes each session fun and effective.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of this location intermittently since March of 2020; I took advantage of free time and extra money to purchase a membership and splurged on a personal trainer as well...SCOTT DWYER-PERSONAL TRAINER was the BEST experience I have ever had with a personal trainer(I have had three) when LA was in briarwood; I was in my 20's and out of shape but healthy, and with the personal trainer I had at that location I learned to be more food conscious. Six years ago (in late 2019) I was hit by a car on vacation in Arizona, and sustained injuries that left me weak. When in 2020 I started with a different personal trainer than Scott, I was quite disappointed and unsure of weather I was going to continue with him, then Scott entered my life! Scott had recovered from injuries, so I knew he wouldn't push me too hard but would also help me get stronger. I had recently turned 40 and was worried about how out of shape I was, as I age. Scott helped me find and engage my ABS again!! We met my goals, I lost a lot of weight, and we utilized 15+ of the machines in the club, and the personal training area to get me stronger again. Scott made a structured plan so I never got bored with the workout routine, and boy was his schedule busy! I had to fight to get a set time two days a week! He is very smart, he knows his stuff and if I could afford to, I would have him get me where I want to be now, but he did teach me a lot, and that is priceless to my current workout routine. I am so happy for this club, being in a generally convenient location for me and them employing knowledgable trainers like Scott.

Fantastic experience: I just joined LA Fitness on Maple Rd. this fall. I signed up for the personal fitness and love the reserved area for our sessions. I’m also able to use the space in between sessions. I like that it is small and provides all the basics I need in between sessions. My trainer, Scott, is 5star. He asks questions and listens to my needs and ‘challenges’ and then adapts my session accordingly. I also use the pool. While it is small (3 lanes), it is 25 yards long. Those using the pool are great about sharing the lanes.

Fantastic experience: I started at LA Fitness because they participate in Silver Sneakers, but then decided to try personal training. I started working with Scott and he has been nothing short of amazing. I also see a physical therapist for neck and back issues and Scott has worked alongside my PT to give me great outcomes. My PT is very impressed with his training and is even referring some of her patients who want to workout at a gym.

Negative experience: This place is absolutely disgusting. Zero standard of cleanliness. The weight floor is full of hairballs and dust bunnies, the mirrors are streaked, there is dirt and grime on every machine. The pool area is deplorable. It includes a fully rusted handicap chair, scum lines, brown foam and hair everywhere. Sunday morning there was zero toilet paper in any stall and just a big roll left on the counter. Multiple members in the locker room speak of staph infections they’ve received here. I personally have developed a rash on my back that cleared up upon taking a week away from this place. The lockers do not have a code to lock so you are required to bring a lock which is inconvenient compared to other gyms. Multiple stair stepper machines are broken. There is no hip thrust machine and poor leg press options. Extremely disappointing environment
Negative experience: The building has not been cleaned in a week. The men's locker room is gross. Urinals are dirty and floors not mopped. Since the hand dryers have been installed a lot of men don't wash there hands. Beware of using the equipment, wipe it down before and after you use it. Spinning room floor has sweat and debris on the floor. The bikes have not been cleaned in ages. Please keep a regular cleaning cycle and bring paper towels.
Positive experience: I love this club! It is big, airy, stocked with great equipment and clean. People at the front desk are friendly. There are numerous classes to take if you chose. LA Fitness is a vast improvement over the old Bali club.

Negative experience: I had a 7 day pass and only went 1 day, staff is arrogant/ huge ego's , equipment is ripped and attachments to equipment are falling apart torn grips , sauna and hot-tub out of order for over 6 months (is what a guest told me) the drinking water is A2 tap water, at $40 a month at least have your amenities working, and pay for a clean drinking water service, these people are being cheap, and want a country club vibe. I will not recommend to anyone

Positive experience: Beware of upselling personal training, and unintelligible contracts. We had a personal training contract, but our trainer cancelled on us several times, so we were unable to complete our allotted sessions within the contract period. We were then required to pay for an extra month in order to use those sessions. Eventually we were transferred to Shyann. She listened attentively to our goals, and designed a program to help us meet them. Kudos to Shyann; she is excellent!
Positive experience: I've been taking a weekly personal training class with Shyann (an athlete, herself) for some time now and enjoy her enthusiastic guidance in challenging me with new approaches - I don't want to give away her techniques but she has me doing things I've never done, seen, or heard of before! I'm better for it too!

Fantastic experience: Hello guys! I took a trip to Los Angeles and tried out the LA Fitness there. My experience there compared to the Ann Arbor location was quite different. The Ann Arbor location is exponentially better for several reasons. Our equipment is much better, classes are better, bigger and cleaner space. And the Ann Arbor locations staff is fantastic. Joe Dorr the personal training director got me started with my Silver Sneakers membership and did a short and informative consultation as well as tour. I highly recommend LA Fitness Ann Arbor!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I are over 75 years old. We are training with Shelby three times a week. We are very happy with her and feel more fit every week. The facility has enough equipment that we don't have to sit around waiting for an apparatus to become available. The people who operate the facility are pleasant and helpful. All in all, 10 out of 10.

I'm a shorttimer so I haven't made use of the entire facility ...but I was smart enough to get the best trainer, Shyann. Negative experience: Has gone terribly downhill. Sauna has been closed for about a year. They have reserved swim lanes for some swimming school and they train toddlers there. wonder how clean it is. Without pool and sauna, it is no diferent than planet fitness at 4 times the price. not sure why they are "signature" .
Negative experience: Belle at the reception was extremely rude. I was charged an extra month (1 month as per policy + an additional month since I was 20 mins late to reach LA fitness on my last billing date). Their cancellation policy requires you to cancel between 9am -5pm ( when most people have to go in to the office ). I went into LA on Friday at 5:20pm just before my next billing date and they said that their manager wasn’t available and so they couldn’t cancel my membership. I went in again on Monday and I was charged for an entire additional month since the current billing cycle started over the weekend. When I requested for consideration as it was a matter of 20 mins I was spoken to very disrespectfully. I personally think that gym is really bad in terms of service and support. Their sauna has been out of operation for almost a year and there was no drop in membership prices. They seem to be more focused on getting memberships and charging fees than on improving quality of service.
Negative experience: Attached are pictures of the lack of cleanliness in the women’s locker room showers. As you can see, there is mold, mildew, soap scum and bacteria growing all throughout these shower stalls and glass doors. To be frank, I feel more unclean after taking a shower in these shower stalls. I don’t believe it is healthy and in best interests of the other members who pay a premium fee to use these facilities, also given the sauna has been broke down for over a year with no signs of reopening, but that is a major separate issue.
Negative experience: Bring in a steam sauna ! The electric drying room was silly when it was New
Negative experience: Lockers rooms constantly out of soap, paper towel, toilet paper. The sauna has been broken for 9 months with no plan to repair it. Seems to be due to a lawsuit between the sauna company and LA fitness.. very unfortunate that they offer no means of remediation for this inconvenience to customers although I have asked SEVERAL times.

Positive experience: UPDATED REVIEW (4/1/2024): Used to really like this gym but it feels like it's going downhill. It's becoming increasingly dirty (dust everywhere and trash left on machines and in locker room for days). Also, the sauna has been closed for months due to a "lawsuit" and they don't seem to have any plans to replace it. Big bummer throughout the winter. The hot tub is also routinely broken or not hot. Wish they would just charge a little more and make improvements.
Fantastic experience: Strength training here has been very helpful for my husband and me. Recent trainers Cal and Miles have both taught us a lot! We like using the dedicated area for training.

Negative experience: ***UPDATE 3/12/24**** To much of my suprise, several items have finally been resolved. However, I believe that is in response to a rather strong worded email to corporate. all items have been corrected aside from the sauna. Yet, no response was even acknowledged. Communication is next to none with these guys. the structure of corporate/ facility ownership is unclear. When mentioned frustrations to one employee, They even stated its mostly and endless chase trying to get anything higher ups. They must be hurting, as they continuously plaster sign up "Deals". What about focusing on customer retention?! A step in the right direction, but time will tell. ***UDPATE**** 2/9/24- 11 months later. SAUNA has officially been shut down with no intentions to repair it or any notice indicating repairs, etc. This is a complete joke. Also, "SPA" is under maintenance, machines are down, staff have been notified and no repairs. they're just asking for someone to get hurt and a lawsuit to be dealt with. Yet they'll take full price for a "signature" club, with half A** service. IT'd be a cold day in HE.L.L before I'd say this...but just choose the purple gym. LA fitness is certainly not what it used to be. Upkeep has been terrible. Turn over is high. They clearly don't pay their employees enough, but have no problem charging premium prices for sub par services. Update: 3/28/23- Still no direct update from staff on status. Went to gym today and all 5 main soap dispensers were completely empty. when notifying front desk staff, they just shrugged it off. Turn over rate on cleaning staff has seeemed to be very high. sad they ask for high fees but pay their staff poorly. Update: 3/21/23- Made several points of contact about this to front desk, “messages” through the app and even one to corporate. Not one response. Will update once corrected! 3/7/2023- MENS SAUNA IS BROKEN, CANT SEEM TO REPAIR! I have been a member since opening day. At the time it was a wonderful place. However, post covid, it has seem to really gone down hill. from general cleanliness, machine maintenance upkeep to broken amenities. The Sauna has been limping along for well over a year. approximately half of the heating elements are out. (cool to the touch) Infrared sauna is stated to be around 145 degrees, despite warning sign saying 185. Thermometer barely breaks 110 & is below 100 when people are in and out. Only the upper seating elements work. and only one unit is above 500degrees. There have been several "work orders" completed on it to which they say resolved, but this clearly is not accurate. I cannot get a clear answer as to any new work orders or willingness to repair it other than "it is very expensive." I suppose the rates are too cheap to justify repairs.
Fantastic experience: This LA Fitness has been long overdue. Very nice facility and well maintained. I've noticed others complaining about this gym not being clean, that's incorrect. I'm here often and everytime I walk in they're cleaning, and mopping. Yes it is a signature club which means it will be little more expensive but go to any gym in the area except for Planet Fitness and you'll be paying almost double. They have a wide selection of machines from cardio equipment to weights. With all that being said I would highly suggest anyone to check out this gym and get a day pass.
Negative experience: Ehhh, I don’t recommend this gym due to these issues: — this place is a madhouse between the hours of 4-7, like it’s so busy that you have to stand around waiting for a machine, then to make it worse, the people using the machines are just staring at their phones. — so much wasted space in here that could be utilized. Like reduce the cycling and HIIT room. Nobody uses it and the lights are never even on for anyone to use it. And the space in the back behind the row machines is all just wasted space. — a lot of the machines have tears in the cushions and/or other defects. — the men’s bathroom is disgusting. I have to hold my breath every time I use the urinal, and the garbage can is always overfilling. — the spa has been closed for months. — I will say though that the staff are all friendly. In other words, utilize all the dead space, keep it clean, and understand that this gym is not worth $40 a month.

Negative experience: This place has been going downhill. More than 4 months without sauna, there are sediments aka dead skin in the jacuzzi, and now they want to charge for the towels. The towels were collected from a Goodwill, they have holes are dirty. Cancelled my membership and labeled the charges as fraudulent since they are I'm breach of contract. I hope others do the same, this chain of clubs is just a scam.
Negative experience: A decent facility but if you’re looking for a sauna don’t go here. The sauna has been closed for months, they tried to open it for one day a week. Which was as dumb as it sounds. You would think the price would go down because you’re paying for everything including the sauna. To say the least I’m cancelling my membership here.
Negative experience: WARNING, WARNING, WARNING! DO NOT TRUST JOE DORR, THE FITNESS DIRECTOR. He is worse than a bad used car salesman. He will sell you a personal training package you don't need and keep lying so he can keep charging you a monthly fee of $480. I requested only one month because he was badgering me to sign up. He signed me up for an ENTIRE year. I told him to cancel it before my first month was up. He agreed but keeps charging me $480/mo. I will be quiting LA Fitness because of Joe Dorr. Also, They charge me $45/mo. I just found out Crunch Fitness only charges $29.99/mo. for similar & $9.95/mo. for the cheapest.
Positive experience: Like any other genetic LA Fitness. The sauna, one of - if not the - main reason I for choosing this location to visit, was out order... not to mention, the shampoo/conditioner/body wash trio of toiletries were all low and in dire need of refills.
Fantastic experience: I love working out at the LA Fitness Ann Arbor Gym. I really like the facility that has a great selection of exercise machines. The gym has a 3 lane 25 yard pool as well, which is great! Every visit is welcomed by a very friendly receptionist at the front. All staff at the LAF A2 are very friendly and supportive. Without an initial free consultation with the training program manager Joe D., I would never have made the best decision to date. (Thank you, Joe!) I started a personal training program in April of 2023 initially as a way of recovering from arm injury during cross-country skiing and needed to build more upper body strength. I selected Ome as my trainer and since then my strength has improved greatly and my arm injury has healed. I then geared my training activities more toward a swim race that I completed (quite successfully) last month. In both instances Ome tailored my training needs to my goals and it really produced results in terms of overall muscular and joint strength. Throughout this past eight months or so I have found him to be very encouraging and positive - encouraging, but not pushing and always asks about any problems from other training (golf/swimming). He really listens to and cares about his clients and is very creative in applying diverse training methods suited to a client's needs. I've really enjoyed and benefited from working out with Ome and keeping up the good exercise at the LAF A2 gym in general.
Fantastic experience: Just a perfect gym. All sorts of equipment, 23-meter pool, clean lockers, showers, full bottles of soap and shampoo, friendly staff. Love it. Always feels so good after leaving it.
Positive experience: ***UPDATE** I give LORI the 5 stars*********** she is the only one that acknowledges customers walking in and out. The cleanliness of the gym could be a lot better. None of the machines are every wiped down. The same sweat from the day before remains on all the cardio machines. Dust an inch thick. Women lockers are never cleaned. Dust, dirt and hair lay in them. It's the small details that actually are huge. Management needs to be more involved. This review is based on first impressions walking into the gym. (also a personal trainer) I was already a little hesitant and a little anxious as some people usually have walking into a new gym. Lori greeted me and was very helpful and welcoming, willing to answer any questions. She was extremely friendly and down to Earth. It was very comforting. She set me up for 3 days to visit and work out to see if I like it. Coming from a gym that isn't so nice of course I was much happier walking into LA Fitness. Needless to say, I will be signing up for a membership!

Fantastic experience: One of the cleanest LA’s I’ve been to! and I drive a truck all over the country so I’ve been to quite a few of them so this says a lot!

Negative experience: They charged a freeze account. They are in for the money and don't even keep their word. Needed to freeze while moving out of state. Decided to still charge the account. Sign up with a local gym instead.
Fantastic experience: Terrific doing training sessions with Faith - she’s conscientious, listens & designed a good workout for all round fitness. She also explains, answers questions and is very personable.
Fantastic experience: Clean with polite workers, let me try it. I was thinking about adding (Signature). But to be honest they cost more and always have less amenities. This place was nice, and pretty quiet during the day.
Positive experience: No basketball courts like typical La fitness’s have. Broken sauna for about 3 months. Doesn’t really have anything that crunch doesn’t have unless you like specific classes. Overpriced
Fantastic experience: It’s definitely 5 stars management & atmosphere really clean , but they need more squat racks and mirrors .. I hate when I have to wait an hour for a squat rack they should definitely put a sign with a time limit. I never get to finish my workout.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member here for about a year and a half. The staff is usually very friendly and courteous. Belle in particular is super friendly and always greets me with a smile and friendly “Hello”. The facilities are outstanding with all the amenities that I like and use regularly.
Fantastic experience: Ireen has been a phenomenal guide through my process for regaining range of motion, strength, and flexibility over the past year. My hands used to reach my shoulders and now go full extension above my head; my legs can maneuver machines that I could not get on; I can balance for almost a minute when it used to be 3 seconds; and I walk a mile when I used to stop at less than a block. My knees don't hurt. My shoulder doesn't hurt. Ireen kept exercises light enough for me to do, then increased them incrementally so I could keep improving. I have a better life and great hope due to Ireen and LA Fitness!!
Fantastic experience: Shelby is an amazing trainer. She knows her stuff and explains it well. She motivates and adapts. She’s patient. She’s personable. And she will help you improve, no question. Very highly recommended.
Negative experience: I’m a student at the UM ,I came 2 years ago and joined to LA fitness . People coming here with jeans , dirty boots , cargo pants bla bla , I tried to talk couple times with manager and they said we can’t do anything and we don’t have any rule , so my point is this is sport active place and I never ever seen people coming with Jean or dirty in sportive clothes . I came from another country I been maybe more than 50 gym center and never ever seen like that. So you guys saying we’re selfish and we don’t care others , Thanks
Negative experience: Worst possible experience I have ever dealt with. Cancelled my membership in August yet they kept charging me. I called today to cancel and they were willing to but when I asked to be refunded for the last month they accused me of lying. I told them I don’t appreciate the accusation please just cancel. They then said no I needed to call corporate. I asked why she (Bell) wouldn’t do it and she said because I’m rude. I then called corporate and they proceeded to also call me a liar even though I wasn’t asking for a refund. They of course told me all the hoops I needed to jump through to get it done. I informed them of my intention to call the BBB and then she decided to cancel the membership Worst customer service I have ever experienced especially when the facilities and value was a D- at best. Planet Fitness runs circles around this place
Fantastic experience: I’ve been working out here for a little bit over a year and it’s been great, I’ve had Shelby as a personal trainer and she’s been a great help, she is super fun to work with, she has answered every question I’ve had and is just a great trainer overall. Would highly recommend her if your new to the gym
Fantastic experience: LA Fitness is like a second home to me. It is a big part of my life and I am there six days a week. Belle (manager) always makes me feel welcome and goes out of her way to ensure my concerns are heard. She works hard at her job but often seems to get the blunt end of the stick when it comes to issues beyond her control. Staffing in housekeeping appears to be an ongoing problem that plagues this establisment. It is unfair to fault the one in charge when there is no one available to fulfill the duties of cleaning the facillities! As a suggestion, contracting a cleaning crew to do a thorough cleaning and maintain the daily upkeep may be more beneficial and put a smile on everyone's face! Those of us who understand the business appreciate Bells endeavors and share the frustration that she endures by being short staffed!
Fantastic experience: Very nicely organized and equipped. I joined in May 2022. Joe the GM for the gym is very knowledgeable and helpful.Based on my previous history of workouts (=0 ) he helped me design a workout regimen. He assigned Ben G. as my personal trainer for the next 6 months. Ben is a master trainer and suggested a workout regimen, which has helped me lose weight, gain strength and focused on core abdominal exercises. I have read some odd reviews about older people “just hanging around” which is exactly the opposite of what I have observed. Perhaps the Millennials and Gen Z’s should get motivated by the workouts which the Boomers(including myself) do in order to remain active. From the reception all the way to the training staff, I find them professional, caring and friendly. Thanks LA Fitness staff and keep up the good work.
Fantastic experience: I enrolled into this gym since it was near home and had some personal goals to achieve, I ended up going to personal training sessions with Ireen. She is truly awesome. She has very good set of routines and exercises that align with your goals and personal level of fitness. Very professional as well as flexible with your schedules (I work long days and travel a lot) Highly recomendable.
Fantastic experience: I joined LA Fitness after Physical Therapy for my knees from biking. I wanted to continue strengthening my legs so I can continue biking and going on biking vacations for many years. I do not generally like gyms or working out. But this gym is so open and airy that I now like coming here. It isn't claustrophobic and stinky like many gyms. There's always plenty of equipment, machines, lanes in the pool, space in the hot tub, sauna, locker room, etc. I like coming during the day when there are older people working out. It's encouraging to see 80 year olds working out. It makes me want to keep going so I can still be working out when I'm that age. My trainer. Shelby, has a lot to do with my change in attitude. I look forward to my training sessions. She makes the workouts fun. She's very knowledgeable and she adjusts my workout as needed, sometimes in the moment, based on my arthritis. I am so much stronger and more mobile than I was when I started. I can easily climb stairs, squat, bend, get up off the floor, and bike for 40 miles! For the first time in my life, I am more mobile than my husband, who exercises 12 hours per week. And it's all because of the variety of my workouts with Shelby. She makes sure I workout in a balanced way and emphasizes stretching as well as strength. When I started, I told Shelby that my main goal was to lower my A1C. Because of working out with Shelby, I have lost 20 pounds, lowered my A1C, and am no longer pre-diabetic! Thanks Shelby!
Positive experience: Update: Not long after posting this review, there was a maintenance notice on the Sauna. It is noticeably warmer than before, so I cannot complain. I still don’t think it is as hot as advertised, but it’s still an improvement. The only thing I have left to complain about is the $5/per month up-charge to use the towels. Sauna is very disappointing. It must be broken because you will have to stay in there for at least 30 minutes if you are looking to break a sweat. Of course there is no thermometer inside or else people would notice it is clearly not working properly. Mentioned to staff about it being far cooler than advertised, they said they have no intention on repairing it. Definitely not 180 degrees.
Fantastic experience: As someone who despises working out LA Fitness is literally saving my life. My workout journey started once I found out I was pre-diabetic. I signed up with Shelby as my personal trainer. Told her my goal and my fears as a being new to the gym. She has been patient with me and all our workouts have variety keeping me motivated. Shelby explains each exercise in detail and focuses on being safe while exercising. She’s professional and LA Fitness is lucky to have her. To her success…I’ve lost 25lbs and I’m no longer pre-diabetic.

Here in lies LA FITNESS ANN ARBOR: Some of the ways in which a lack of proper gym management can lead to embarrassment include: Poor equipment maintenance: If gym equipment is not properly maintained, it can become rusty, broken, or dangerous to use. This can lead to injuries and lawsuits, and can also make the gym appear unprofessional and unappealing to potential customers. CASE IN POINT, Many of LA FITNESS machinery is clearly falling apart. Lack of cleanliness: A dirty gym with equipment covered in sweat and grime can be a major turnoff for customers. It can also lead to health and safety issues, and may result in negative reviews and loss of business. CASE IN POINT: LA FITNESS TO THE Forefront! good luck washing your hands with over 8 sinks, yet not soap in the dispensers. And fat chance looking at yourself in the mirror beyond all the dirt speckling. its as if they havent washed them in years. Inadequate staff training: If gym staff are not properly trained in customer service, safety procedures, and equipment usage, it can lead to confusion and frustration among customers. This can result in negative feedback and a loss of business. ONCE AGAIN, LA FITNESS FOR THE WIN! Try telling the staff of an issue. theyll look at your with a dumb look and just smirk it off. Overall, running a proper gym requires attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a willingness to invest in the necessary resources and training. If an owner is not able to provide these things, it can lead to embarrassment and a damaged reputation in the fitness industry. Talk about embarrassment- The purple gym has a much higher rating, cleaner facility, up to date equipment and a friendly staff. Keep at it LA, you may make a come back.... lol
Fantastic experience: Faith is an awesome Personal trainer! She really pushes us to do our best, she is also great at listening to how much I talk. Even though I complain about the weights she gives me I’m glad I work with her!
Negative experience: I've been a member at LA fitness for 5+ years. I was unaware that they were charging me "LATE FEES" for no reason without telling me! Beth or Bell whatever she calls her self the "operations manager" was extremely rude and condescending to me over the phone. Make sure your LA fitness monthly charges line up with your membership cost every month because she will not give you your money back and they will not tell you about "LATE FEES". In fact she told me that I'm lucky that it's not more. It's nice to see another Ann Arbor business supporting Fee-Flaition What a scam
Fantastic experience: Two and a half months ago I joined LA Fitness and hired Faith as my personal trainer. She is an excellent trainer! She is the best at motivating me regarding healthy eating and regular exercise. She is also mindful of my limitations while helping me maximize my efforts. I highly recommend her!!!
Negative experience: I walked in this morning 10/3/2023 to inquire about a membership. The indolent heavy set woman at the desk could hardly be bothered. She wanted me to fill out a form and then told me to have a seat until someone could address my questions. I asked her how long that would take, and she shrugged her shoulders indicating she did not know. I guess this is just another establishment with a very big sense of entitlement that the customer exists on behalf of their convenience. I handed her back the form, and walked out the door. Apparently these people think they are the only business offering fitness opportunities in Ann Arbor: not!

While I am the absolute last person to say the purple gym is any good, I’d much rather go there then here.
Fantastic experience: My trainer, Mason, is fantastic! He listens, has a plan, responds to my changing needs and weaknesses. As a senior citizen, who never went to a gym before, I have been encouraged, recognized and have progressed. Everything is positive from cleanliness to courtesy. Joe Dorr is great too...he always greets me with a smile.
Fantastic experience: I have had Shelby and Ben as personal trainers at the Ann Arbor LA Fitness and would recommend them for their knowledge and passion to fitness. Ben helped me add very useful accessory work into my routine, and Shelby taught me so many great warm-up/mobility movements to do before lifting. They each helped with my confidence in form and pushed me to get more out of my workouts than I would normally get on my own. Thank you Shelby and Ben!
Fantastic experience: Gym and locker rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. Being in a high-risk category, I only recently returned to the gym after COVID, and I really appreciated all the things the staff did to make me comfortable about returning to workout. My trainer Faith is excellent--she really listens and adapts to my needs and encourages me to go a little farther than I think I can!
Fantastic experience: Have been attending LA Fitness for a year now and have really enjoyed my experience so far. Nice locker rooms with sauna and a variety of equipment but the star of the show is my time with Shelby in personal training along with her coaching the HIIT classes. It’s become a fun place to connect with friends and get an excellent, fine-tuned to me, workout.
Fantastic experience: I have been going to the Ann Arbor L A Fitness since March, as a member via the Medicare Plus Blue Silver Sneakers program. I signed up for a personal trainer as an extra (optional, paid) service. My personal trainer, Faith, has been outstanding, working closely with me to design a plan to meet my goals, while taking into account the various physical issues/limitations that I need to work with. She pushes me with each visit in a way that is gentle but demanding, and I can feel and measure the progress I've made in my first three months with Faith. In fact, at my recommendation, my wife has recently begun training with Faith; I'm sure she will have the same experience that I have had so far.
Fantastic experience: I joined LA Fitness this past March via my Silver Sneakers membership. I’ll be 70 next year and I’m on a mission to stay healthy, build muscle, strengthen my bones, and improve my stamina and fitness. I also signed a year’s contract to work with a trainer, Faith. I just can’t say enough good things about her! Faith has built a fitness routine that addresses my specific needs and goals. She varies my workout, sets specific days for upper body, lower body, and overall core strengthening. She pushes me and I love that! I always look forward to my weight training workouts with Faith and I’m really disappointed if I have to miss one. She’s the best! I’m so glad I was matched with her.
Fantastic experience: LA fitness is a very nice facility! Clean and bright not to mention the awesome pool and spa. My trainer Faith is excellent too, she listens to you and can adapt her plans so you maximize your gains. Totally recommend her and this gym!!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been apprehensive about going to a gym due to the stigma that is attached to it, and not wanting to experience the “judgement” from seasoned gym members. My experience at LA Fitness has been polar opposite. Faith has been amazing from explaining the importance of eating clean and healthy and showing me how to properly lifts weights. Since I’ve been training with her, my physical health has improved substantially. She definitely knows that she’s doing and ensures that I’m always comfortable when working out with her.
Positive experience: I really like this facility. It's close to home, they have everything I need in terms of equipment and classes. My Silver Sneakers insurance is accepted and covers my membership, allowing me to afford the personal training services offered. I have worked with Shelby who is an excellent trainer -- VERY knowledgeable and highly motivated. Shelby can instantly adapt your planned workout based on the day's particulars. Shelby is always flexible with scheduling and very responsive to changes. Shelby is always watching my technique to keep me safe while working out, and converses neither too much nor too little! I highly recommend LA Fitness.
Fantastic experience: I joined early in 2022 and began personal training with Shelby. She was instrumental in making me very comfortable at the gym, with the equipment and understanding the best ways to meet my goals. She is very knowledgeable, always kind and encouraging. I’m grateful to have found her at LA Fitness. In addition, I find the facility to offer everything I need to meet my exercise needs at an excellent price (Silver Sneakers).
Fantastic experience: When I retired, I purchased 12 half hour monthly personal trainer sessions at LA Fitness with Shelby for one year. She is kind, gentle and firm. Just what I requested. I asked Shelby to help me USE my membership I have been paying since the 1990s and used less than minimally. She has me working on machines, in the PT area, weights, in the aerobic room and the pool. Shelby is knowledgeable about the body and has helped me see and experience the possibilities/merits of a strong, focused and consistent workout. As an active senior I joined Silver Sneakers and enjoy the classes with Lily. Her mantra is ‘leave no muscle behind’! She too is excellent in the group sessions both in the pool and in her aerobic class. I have invested in myself with a personal trainer; by attending free classes; and the bottom line is, I am worth it and feel the merits of taking care of myself everyday! I am a work in progress and will not give up on my personal goals as I move into this next phase of healthy, active living.
Fantastic experience: Been seeing Shelby for over a year at this point and I've loved the improvements I've seen in my general wellness, as well as my strength and stamina! This location is well maintained and the staff are helpful and kind.
