YMCA of Steuben County

Negative experience: I was shocked at how different this Y is from other NE Indiana small town Y’s. No greeting by the woman at the front desk - she could barely be bothered to point in the direction of the weight room which shockingly is upstairs and it’s tiny. We wanted to lift but that area was taken over so we were left with cardio equipment. The strangest of all was there was not a single spray bottle or towel to wipe down equipment. We won’t be back.

Negative experience: This is our local YMCA but we have to drive 45 minutes to use the Auburn YMCA. As a two-working-parent family, the best time for us to use our YMCA is on the weekends and there isn’t childcare offered on Saturdays. They also close for the summer on Sundays. The sauna is only open if the pool is open and the pool hours are very limited. The Google hours show they are open on Sundays during the summer even though, as mentioned, they aren’t. I have found that I have to call first to ensure they’re open because it’s inconsistent. I wish the gym was managed better.

Fantastic experience: Our girls just participated in a pickleball program and had a great time with great instruction. Thank you Steuben County YMCA!

Fantastic experience: Super facility but like any non profit the employees (mgm) run the place at their convenience . If you want to swim laps, you had better call right before you arrive. The posted schdule is subject to last minute changes for unbelievably stupid percieved conflicts. UPDATE 6.17.2024 ....New management and new lifeguards! My complaints 1 year ago (1 star) were justified but over the past few months there has been a complete turnaround with the pool.

Fantastic experience: The YMCA of Steuben County is not only a great place to work, but also a place to meet and connect to others with similar goals! Our members make me smile!

Negative experience: No row machines or ghd machines. 1 bench press. Limited space to lift weights. Several tread mills and elipticals.

Positive experience: We need better hours there- Young people are working 2 jobs- have children- going to school on the side? Who ever is monitoring this issue~ is not paying attention to what the newer generations need? They are our hope for the future- they need better access

Fantastic experience: Nice Y. Very good workout room.

Negative experience: Severely mis-managed. The pool, therapy pool and sauna are never open. The schedule online does not reflect what may be happening that day (so remember to call everytime you want to go workout). My family and I have been very frustrated with the Angola YMCA (FYI Auburn YMCA, Fort Wayne, Jackson, Lansing, traverse City all do NOT have the same staffing issues). It's sad that the pool is never open so the sauna cannot be enjoyed. this is not the case at any other Y. I think one of them said "its a safety issue to not have a life guard on duty for the sauna" i just picture life guards in the locker rooms at all the other YMCA's..they make zero sense - we are sad we live next to the worst YMCA in the tristate area.

Negative experience: Contacted them multiple times over the years about swim lessons, they either don't have them or don't get back with me on questions, finally got a response back this year about class times and asked about private lessons twice and got told someone would be contacting me and still nothing. About to just go to the Auburn Y. I feel this Y is limited in what they offer.

Positive experience: Great place. Offers kids great sports programs. Parking stinks though lol

Negative experience: Almost drowned and the staff didn’t help so terrible will never go back

Negative experience: I use to love this place for the therapy pool, driving there regularly from Michigan to swim was worth it and consistently brought new people. They convinced me to buy a membership, as soon as I did, now the pool is NEVER OPEN as their schedule shows and I've LITERALLY only gotten to swim 1x so I've wasted more money between the worthless membership and gas driving there just to find that I CAN'T SWIM. Then I call to talk to them about how upset I am and the disrespectful unprofessional person answering the phone cuts me off while I'm talking, laughs at my frustration, then basically says "Deal it, its the way things are here. If you want to swim you could Call First, you want to save your gas you could Call First, and if you don't like that you can go ahead cancel your membership!" Seriously where the **** did customers go people??? I asked about the schedule posted online but apparently that's a joke because all she could do was laugh at me again. I started out loving this place

Negative experience: Treated rude Friday. Just wanted to find out what is going on now internet out at home. Finally go back on internet only to find out most of classes I need are not on a regular schedule. Therapy and regular pool not open regularly either. not much going on for silver sneakers Not happy

Positive experience: As a young female, i feel somewhat uncomfortable when i go here as the gym area is quite small and people will watch me during my workouts. other than that, the equipment is great and the staff are always so friendly! just wish i could workout without feelings peoples eyes on me.

Positive experience: Could use some tlc but a solid staple in the community. Nice workout room and the pools are well maintained. Locker rooms seem dingey. But still.always have fun here. great programs and events for the community.

Negative experience: This YMCA will do thing completely backwards they chose to change the basketball floor in the dead of winter? Why? No one knows. Then they lie about the completion date for 2 months. This place is shady and the hardest thing to do in This Establishment, is get a refund!!! They will scam you out of every dollar and then act like you are the one who is mistaken, Lol SOME... YOUTH MENS CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY...

Fantastic experience: The YMCA does a good job with providing opportunities for families to stay active and healthy. I used the Y frequently when I recovered from my ankle surgery and my oldest daughter participated in swimming lessons and Wavemakers is popular.

Positive experience: I absolutely love this place. Every person here is kind and treats me like a friend. My only regrets are not getting to the pool more often.

Negative experience: There schedules are bad and they suck

Negative experience: Very old and appeared to be under-kept. Felt like it was missing several essentials in a YMCA. Other than that, it is your typical recreational center.

Negative experience: As a new member and veteran I've never been treated with such a lack of respect from the staff...I asked for a tour twice they look at you stupid and ignore you...front desk and office personnel...Id take planet and max fitness any day over these ass holes. Dates I walked in 6/13/18 and 6/19/18

Positive experience: This facility is an asset to our community, but needs to have an active maintenance crew. The membership rates were increased by $5.50. Do not mind paying, but hire a crew to keep on top of things.
