Fantastic experience: Enjoying the variety of groups. Also 4 scheduled pool workouts per week.
Negative experience: I’ve been a member of the Alaska Club for several years now, and I appreciate the convenience of having a variety of amenities and equipment available in one facility. The range of offerings, including workout spaces, classes, and amenities, makes it a great option for staying active. That said, there are several areas that could use significant improvement. One major issue is the towel availability in the 24-hour locker rooms. If you're working out outside normal hours, it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll need to bring your own towel. This has been an ongoing issue that hasn’t been resolved, which can be frustrating for members who expect a stocked facility. Another concern is the overall cleanliness of the facility, especially the locker rooms. The floors are often lined with dirt and hair, and many of the lockers themselves have trash or hair left behind. I would highly recommend wearing flip-flops while in the locker rooms due to the cleanliness issues. It’s hard not to wonder if the facility is being cleaned thoroughly and regularly. Additionally, the responsiveness of the staff has been lacking. On multiple occasions, I’ve found them unapproachable when notifying them about issues such as broken shower heads, empty soap dispensers, or towel shortages. It would go a long way if the staff were more attentive and proactive in addressing these concerns. Despite these issues, I do enjoy working out at the Alaska Club, I only wish they would take more pride in maintaining the facility and improving customer service. Listening to and addressing member feedback could make a big difference.
Negative experience: Update 10 August 2024 - Instead of removing my made up owed amount the fearless leader, Genevieve Auelua. Sent it to Collectors/Collections. Never Entered this Building as a Guest or Gym Member.... But that doesn't stop this multi-million dollar business from taking legal action against me for < $500 !? Between the phone calls, letters, legal advocate, time and lies to get me to pay a bill for an unused membership is Bonkers and Bad Business practice. Plus it feels like at this point your stopping of the effort to get me to pay a bogus claim of membership would save you over $500 a month. More than you say I owe. JS and Your Welcome. The attitude alone from a phone call a week after alerting them that I may be interested for my family to join was reason number 1. Why we or I would never join alaska club! I might remove this truthful and negative comment if they drop their ridiculous < $500 made up claim of a bill. As A Retired and Disabled Army - Iraqi Freedom War Veteran. I Do expect better from a gym in America to be more understanding and less demanding of someone to pay for an ice cream they never held or licked let alone seen. Will continue to update as they continue to spend more money than they say I owe. Any Response from less than a Manager with actual "helping this sito" power will be dismissed quickly with prejudice.
Negative experience: Went to the east club for the first time yesterday… it was HORRIBLE ! My parents got a tour and thought it was cool so we brought the kids yesterday…. Not kid friendly AT ALL ! We went into the locker room got kicked out because it was 14 and older no one told us or even showed up where the other locker room was …. Nothing was even labeled well ! The employee he kicked us out was SO RUDE ! And the “family locker room” was GROSS compared to their other one … it was rusty and so sad looking … my 2 year old also slipped and fell on their tile floor witch has never happened at the BEAUTIFUL south ak club ! They also don’t let any young kids in the pool after open swim witch is so far from what your can do at south club ! Kids can be in splash pad , kiddo end of pool and warm pool at south witch makes it sooo family friendly ! But east we got a whole 5 minutes to swim once we FINALLY got where we needed to we were so happy to leave and will NEVER BE COMING BACK ! the ak club EAST NEEDS TO DO BETTER !

Negative experience: I’ve been a member at the Alaska club for quite some time. I always go to the eagle river location and this east location is something else. This facility has become a nasty place to work-out. One of the worst place to workout on my opinion. To talk about the filth of this place is out of hand. My wife prefers the women’s only club or the location in downtown. I always check the showers before I use them, found nothing but bodily fluids and built up goo. I’d make sure to always bring sandals to wear in the shower. The equipments there aren’t even worth your money. I had to make a complaint to the front desk frequently and yet they still haven’t done anything about it. I had to make a big complaint to their manager Roland as well, my daughter found a towel with fecal-stains as if other members were using it to wipe their rear and still has not done anything to fix the issue. This was totally unacceptable. Me and my wife & kids bring our own towels now. So much for their so-called industrial washing machines is from what I was told. Their clean team is a big joke, they do not keep their maintenance clean. One employee named Parker was vacuuming with a very filthy vacuum. I was changing my clothes after my workout and smelled nothing but mold and debris coming out of their vacuum. I believe they do not check their vacuum filters. Also saw him pouring the stuff they use to clean their sinks in their mop buckets on my way out the door. Wrong solutions to clean the floors. Huge OSHA-issue in my opinion. I wouldn’t want my teenagers working there. I would try to avoid drinking from their fountain, drinking-water coming out of a rusty fountain and chewed up bottle caps found in the drain. I recommend other members to bring their own water for the safety of their health. I was also fined for triggering an alarm in the main locker room for trying to get my stuff when the door was unlocked because of false information from an employee. Only thing me and wife enjoys is their tennis court. The least cleanest place you can play on. Horrifying place to workout.
Positive experience: Love the size of this gym, and that there is room to move. Issue with being open 24 hours, is that the weight room can be a train wreck in the morning sometimes. People are just lazy and don't pick up after themselves. Have found people who are not members in the gym, they most likely are let in by other people. Kind of scary to find someone sleeping in the locker room. Have had a few instances where there are homeless people by the doorway early in the morning, so have had to go to a different gym. Also kind of curious about why employees at the gym get to let in their friends (they don't badge in). Is this a perk of being an employee, you can bring whoever you want?

Negative experience: Went to gym after first day of enrollment , first went to basketball court . The basketballs Are all warped and would not even bounce correctly , also I had signed up for the membership plus two week trial that they did charge me $80 that is supposedly going to be in reimbursed if you did not go with the membership with my daughter on my account …..so my Daughter wanted a spray tan so we went to go utilize it since we had members plus would not even work correctly after we told it was working correctly. It did not even spray anything. They asked if we wanted to try again to see if it would work. I said no is as if they don’t have money to properly maintain the equipment that they supply their customers. I’m not your trial and error. You’ve took my money already. I shouldn’t have to mess with faulty equipment. Our improper Maintenance. Also, my daughter was on my membership plus and they said that she hadn’t even had an account created yet. It was gonna take a week before it was updated on there computer so she had to do the spray tan in my place see how my profile had been created already I’m assuming….. Limiting my use for the spray tan machine. , they did charge a $399 enrollment fee that was waived. Assuming that was a deal the average enrollment fee is $15 for gyms in the lower 48 Wonder why it’s so expensive here I guess they are trying to make you think that you’re getting a better deal When you’re really not. wasn’t impressed by the professionalism Or loyalty customer base it’s like they’re just trying to sell sale sale and then try to get you in some type of program where you have to spend even more money like a personal trainer or a assessment as they call it that was not asked for on my behalf for me the amount that they charge Seems like it’s not worth it for a little over $2000 a year and a 399$ enrollment fee they should have classes every day for what they offer. You shouldn’t have to schedule ahead or have a limit. For that Type of price$$$ and y’all do Offer free trial. Not membership if you don’t go with the membership then it is refunded free as I was told, but I’ll make sure I get that on recording cause this gym is definitely a No go for me they also have a very intricate Enrollment they have going on you almost have to have a lawyer to go over it!!!!! I would recommend not joining Just the fact that they have so many hidden fees and loop holes to Benefit them
Positive experience: I was an employee here as "Clean Team". It is not a terrible facility, and best of all, they are the ONLY company that gave me a job here without ANY complaints. My story here in Anchorage was a ABLISMAL disaster. Communications at other jobs was a disaster, and it took 6 to 7 months for any response from certain other jobs just to respond, WHAT A JOKE ANCHORAGE IS! This facility however, has been proud for their employees. I took the role for Clean Team and I took it with honor. I take the gym and the good community here with pride and dignity. It pays $12.50 for full time, which is why I left: little pay, and Anchorage has little opportunity now. I am going to Active Duty in the Air Force, try my best as CCT. Regardless, despite its good for paying you, it has its flaws. What I observed in the workforce here, is that it is too cut-throat, but I did take the job because some clown was making OSHA violation after OSHA violation, and replaced him. The second floor has employees working hard, and not enough downstairs. Ben, the manager, and Roland, Manager Associate, are practically the only employees that work downstairs, and roland spends most of his time Upstairs, which is time consuming. They also have some financial rule where certain employees are not allowed to earn a certain income, which is annoying, I work nearly over 20 hours of overtime and get in trouble for it, but whatever, Rules are rules for a reason, and OH boy does this facility have projects for YOU! In conclusion, thank you Ben and Roland for working me like a horse, and thank you members for showing me what needed to be done. Thank you for your time!

Fantastic experience: After being a member for a little over two months, my opinion about Alaska club has changed drastically! It was definitely off to a rocky start, but after a while the friendliness of the employees working in the evening and the good atmosphere have changed my attitude! In particular, Enzio and Aden have made my experience here great. They’re always happy, and extremely knowledgeable and willing to help answer any questions.
Fantastic experience: I love the Alaska club! Exercise is the best medicine, physically and mentally. The club features a great cardio and weight room and I use the pool as well. I rotate between the fitness area and the pool and having this versatility is great. The club is always clean and well maintained. I will be a member for many years in the future!

Negative experience: Terrible gym with little to no equipment. Equipment is always broken and makes the little equipment they have even more scarce. The staff is rude and unprofessional. Waste of money and time.

Negative experience: Equipment is nice. Mostly went for the pool but a rented obstacle course took up half the pool, the other quarter was taken up by children. The last quarter is the slide drop off, so good luck not getting kicked. They were out of towels in the entire building and a birthday party shut down the place by 3. My partner mentioned the men's locker room was scary gross, smelt like mold and heard multiple others complain about the same thing. Staff were decent. Seemed more like a child daycare. Most likely will not be going back.

Fantastic experience: Nile is a fantastic personal trainer. I told him at the beginning of our working together that I wanted someone who would push me (just enough) and also listen to my concerns and feedback. He does both. He is flexible - if a routine isn't working for me, he will adjust it or find something else. He is also very knowledgeable, and if he doesn't know the answer to something, he looks it up and gives me the answer the next time I see him. I highly recommend Nile as a trainer!

Positive experience: I use the AK club East primarily for the pool. The main women's locker room is adequate, usually has enough towels and is free of garbage. The women's family locker room periodically has notable mold in the showers, especially the ceiling, and is often very slippery to walk on from shower and pool traffic on the tile flooring. Towels run out in this locker room, so bring your own or hit the adult locker room first to get towels for the kids. Front desk and maintenance staff are decent folks but they have to field complaints without much ability to do anything about them, and admin has never responded to my emails. I wrote to complain about handicapped parking (inadequate and abused) and about a particularly harsh staff member yelling at kids. No response. It is difficult to even find the proper email address for complaints. Membership policies aren't the greatest. They are rigid and designed to keep you paying without much choice. It has always been that way so don't expect it to change. Email communication is almost non-existent. Family memberships are bound to household not family, so forget putting grandkids on your membership. I would add them to my account in a heartbeat as they are under 10 and only come to swim with me, but policies prohibit me from doing so. It's sad that there is zero flex. It's the club's right to set policies, but they aren't winning any love from the community by being so rigid. Overall, East club is adequate, and worth a membership (if you can stomach an initial, binding 1 year contract), but only (for me) because of the pool and the kind people working the front desk.

Negative experience: Its sucks when they cancel kids swimming lesson and does not send email or phone call, then you show up for the class only to know that there is no class. They don't even reimburse for the class that missed because the instructor is not available. Not only waste of time but also waste of money for the service you paid and yet you did not get it. Well I guess it’s not only me cause someone showed up to in my kid class, whom did not receive email too. What an irresponsible management!

Negative experience: The Alaska club East is pretty terrible, but the gym situation in Anchorage is also terrible. Anyhoo, this gym is constantly filthy and many areas like the mens locker room are both disgusting and in disrepair (I’ve literally found used condoms in the shower). The weight room area is far too small and set up awkwardly with old equipment that needs to be replaced. Also the club lets the 16-22 year old wanna be bodybuilders run wild. They blast their own music and set up their cellphones on tripods to record themselves. But worst of all, they hog equipment. I’ve waited nearly an hour for a squat rack before. If you’re coming from the lower 48 and have experienced well managed gyms, this place will be a shock to you, especially the cost compared to cleanliness and disrepair of the gym.
Fantastic experience: My kids play tennis and while I usually work out at home, I enjoy the amenities. It's nice to have a bright, clean place to go, especially during the Winter. Melanie at the front desk is always super cheerful and helpful. She really makes us feel welcome!
Fantastic experience: I’ve showed up for mobility 101 the last two Mondays at the East club at 10:30. The class did not happen the last two Mondays. I’d really like to see mobility 101 on a regular schedule.
Negative experience: Front desk person sent me the wrong way after asking her for a location. I knew that wasn't the room myself. I walked all the way back and she replied "oh it isn't?" My eyes rolling to the back of my head. Idk, I DON'T WORK HERE. She confidently pointed for me to go down as if she knew. She could have verified with someone who knew before sending me and wasting my time. I should have asked a random person walking by. Note: Don't ask the front desk for directions around the building.

Negative experience: Freaking joke. Wayyy over priced for a worn out nasty gym. With unreliable machines (always broken) and lacking staff. Kid center often closed due to staff. Unfortunately we’re captive to this overpriced POS of a gym as there’s no other choices around w child care. Avoid if you can. Emailed complaints to club with no response. Would gladly discuss issues directly.
Negative experience: Upon my reentrance today, my inaugural experience unfolded as an unfortunate manifestation of inadequate customer service at the forefront of the establishment. Evidently, the staff evinced a propensity for indulging in colloquial banter amongst themselves, thereby diverting their attention from the cardinal obligation of tending to the exigencies of their esteemed patronage. This recurrent predicament, evocative of my antecedent disillusionment, surfaced as the preeminent catalyst underpinning my antecedent resolution to rescind my affiliation.
Fantastic experience: OMG! Julie’s Pilates class! I’ve done Pilates for several years and I have NEVER taken a class better than this. The most caring instructor! She will move your spine in every direction and work every single body part! I am 6 months postpartum and I can tell my core will absolutely heal thanks to her!

Negative experience: They will cut your lock off if someone else claims to have left something in locker you are using and leave a note to find after your workout! If you're lucky they'll put a lock from lost and found on it for you and act like they did you a favor!
Positive experience: Improvement is needed on housekeeping. Litter lays around for several days before being picked up. Sometimes there aren’t clean towels and the programming panels on the cardio machines need attention (several machines don’t have working TVs, volume controls or channel selectors). On the upside, the weight machines are in good working order. There are plenty of free weights. Enjoy the included benefit of Yoga, Zumba and other classes at no additional costs.

Negative experience: If i can rate this place a 0 star I would. Me and my friends just wanted to play some basketball after hours and we’ve been here before multiple times. But this time we checked in and we were caught as “suspicious” from a employee. And decided to only target us when many others walked in with us. And to remind you, THIS IS THE ONE OF THE ONLY PLACES you can play basketball at in Anchorage.

Positive experience: Have been a member of East for many years. Even though we weren’t able to access the club during Covid times, we continued to pay full monthly fees so they could keep staff employed. We are loyal customers! We returned this spring after being gone for several months. We were appalled at how unkempt and dirty it was!! The same trash and dirt were in the same spots week after week, sent an email but no one responded. My spouse and I were seriously considering of ending our years of membership. Fortunately someone just recently reached out to us. We are looking forward to the positive changes they stated is coming :)

Positive experience: the amenities they provide are amazing. They need more locker room workers to keep the sauna, hot tub area and shower rooms well maintained. Also to keep up with clean towels and with the floors wiped.

Negative experience: Excited for October as I’ve placed my account to be cancelled when our one year commitment is up. The gym is not cleaned and locked rooms are filthy. You complain and still nothing gets done. Gave it a good 6 months but I’m out

Fantastic experience: They recently renovated, So a lot of those old reviews of things being run down are out of date. It looks very nice inside now. I hate spending so much on a membership but I love the wide variety of classes and time. Not to mention they have the best child care of any gym in town. The play equipment in all of the Alaska Clubs are awesome. Ball pits, slides, tumble mats, toys, crafts. The highlight of my child's day to be able to go in there and play and be warm and have lots of kids around. It makes going to the gym a lot easier for me.

Fantastic experience: This is where TAC started in 1986 when Tom Behan & Andrew Eker acquired the Teamsters recreation facility. Love the pool here, the 25 yd pool has a deep end and that just makes the water seem wetter.

Fantastic experience: Well, this place is pricey but it really is the Cadillac of health clubs. Pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, loads of new cardio machines, two rooms full of free weights and weight machines, a walking track, what more could one ask for? There is a full program of exercise classes, including classes using the pool. They offer personal trainers, tanning rooms and massages. There are courts for basketball, tennis , handball and racquetball. There are six locker rooms. and an area for children. They even have treadmills with built-in TVs. You can’t beat it with a stick. I got in a 1000 calorie workout today and I feel great! Love the staff too they’re always super pleasant.

Negative experience: The rowing machine and not machines, surprisingly. It was un maintained, screw missing. For a premium club there's a lack of good equipment. Mostly needs attending or replaced, mainly the lack of maintenance is probably the cause.
Christo - Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have many machines to maintain and unfortunately sometimes things break before we are able to provide preventative care. As with many other businesses, we are doing our best with limited staff. I will pass your note to our operations team so this can be addressed as soon as possible.
Negative experience: DO NOT ENROLL HERE! I too thought I would not be effected by their weird scheming fee system. I work in construction however and I short notice had to go to the lower 48 for a year for work. I requested to pause my account, Alaska Club repeatedly refused that, I finally requested to be let out of my contract (then I could resume when I returned ) they refused to accept a letter from my employer stating i’d moved as proof of my moving (I live in company housing and don’t have a lease). We went back and forth over a few months and then they sent me to collections with all accrued charges, fees and interest. I think the high monthly charge barely breaks even and the fees is how they make a profit. In the end no document I could provide met the clause to prove my move and end the contract, but here I live now in Colorado, I think meeting the criteria of having moved , yet in collections. Just go somewhere else, they have other fees you’ll run afoul of.
Robert - All terms of your membership agreement, including our moving clause, would have been provided in the documents you were given at the time you signed up. We were willing to make an exception for you and accept your employer letter if you also provided a copy of your flight itinerary (employer letters are not normally sufficient proof of move). We never received your flight itinerary. We have, again, made an exception and waived the early cancelation fee, reducing your balance owed. Positive experience: Masters swimming only at 6am makes it tough to get to. There isn’t a lot of open swim times to bring the kids to. The play center is great. Pricey gym, but there aren’t many options in town.

We also offer a Master Swim session at our South club on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15-1pm, and we would love for you to join us! We offer open swim every day, and do our best to accommodate families with evening open swim during the week and daytime open swim on the weekends. Positive experience: Clean facility. Very well maintained. Staff are very professional and helpful. Wish there were more weight options. Heaviest plate is 45lbs. Weight room gets really warm in the summer. Music playing on the overhead speakers is very hit or miss, mostly miss.

Negative experience: It's very expensive and they don't offer any intermediate plans. I had surgery after an injury caused by one of their own employees and was unable to use the gym and they still made me pay for my membership instead of freezing my account.

Negative experience: Expensive. It sounds like a great club because of all the other locations they tell you that they have, but they are all closed down. Also, a $140 month to month membership doesn't include tanning, and all memberships take 60 days to cancel. So, you're locked into at least 60 days as soon as you sign up and find out they've screwed you. Clean gym is why they received a 2, every gym I've known that has employed these business tactics has gone bankrupt.
Alex - Which other locations are you referring to closing? We have not closed any Anchorage clubs and most of our gold level clubs are 24 hour access. The membership terms would have been reviewed in detail on the day you signed up. We also provide copies of all documents to you, and they are available online. Negative experience: It was just really expensive. The people are nice. I was never aware of a late fee charge for my membership and they charged me 439 or so dollars for a late fee from a 299.99 cancelation fee. I was only I guess contacted once through phone and through mail. Never got the mail. Maybe they left a voice-mail but I never got it. Experience could have been better. If anyone is on a budget or is just trying to have a healthier life without paying the same amount as a car payment. I would refer you to go to a different place or shop around. But if this is your thing. More power to you.

Your request to cancel was submitted prior to your membership obligation date, which would have been reviewed at the time you signed up, therefor the early cancel fee applied. MARCH 2020: I would suggest curtains or doors in the biys locker rooms... there is to many crazy people out here doing weird things and my son feels uncomfortable... this place is has been way cleaner than south Anchorage... I like the fact that you have the biggest pool... I also like the many options you provide... I loved how your staff interacts with its clients and so far I've had a wonderful experience... however there was an incident last time I came there where some guy ran into the boys locker room harassing the kids... I think doors or something needs to be done in there... I do feel uncomfortable with this happening...

Fantastic experience: Superb fitness club. Locker room was very clean and well kept; employees busily bustled around to keep it in good condition. Locker room has both a steam room and sauna. Swimming pool has a deep end (about 11 feet) that you can dive into as well as 2 slides that enter in around the 6-8 foot depth. They offer rentals, and you can rent the pool for a party and have them blow up a bouncy pad that floats on the water. Staff was helpful and cordial.
