Florrie Chappell Gymnasium

The recreation and wellness facility at Georgia Southwestern is located in the newly renovated Florrie Chappell Gymnasium. It is free for students, staff, faculty, and Hurricane Club members to use with a valid GSW ID. The facility is supervised by our Student Fitness Staff and Campus Recreation for Fitness and Wellness. The gym now features a variety of state-of-the-art equipment for cardio, strength training, and functional fitness, including treadmills, ellipticals, a functional fitness turf area, a free weights area, and more.

The Florrie Chappell Gymnasium also has a focus on health and nutrition, as well as mental health and other wellness initiatives. There are two unique spaces in the gymnasium that are separated from the fitness area by partition boards, which allow students to recharge mentally and physically. These spaces are the Helms Family Sports Bar and the Chill Lounge, and both include televisions, seating, and charging stations for students.

An ID is required to protect the interest of those who have paid to use the facility. Students pay activity fees every semester where a percentage goes toward the facility usage. Additionally, as a safety precaution and statistical analysis, we require that IDs be presented and swiped at the front desk.

At this time, our recreation and wellness facilities are only open to GSW students and employees. This is in accordance with GSW's guest guidelines.

In order to help control the spread of illness and disease, please make sure to wipe off equipment after each use with either the sanitizing spray or disposable towels that are available.
