Negative experience: 200$ dollars just to sign up and absolutely No day passes to check out the gym before you spend 300 dollars.I work right next to this place but the prices are outrageous

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Sienna — thanks for the feedback. We understand that pricing can be a big factor, and we’re always happy to help clarify what you’re getting with a membership at ATC. We’re a nonprofit gym with two full-service locations, a wide variety of group classes, indoor and outdoor pools, childcare, and more — all included in your membership.

If you know a member, they’re welcome to bring you as a guest so you can check it out before joining! If you’d like more info or help finding the best option for you, feel free to give us a call or stop by the front desk. We’d love to have you!

Positive experience: Always a good place to get your workout in. Great machines, good atmosphere, steam rooms are a plus as well. If you’re here to train, it’s really amazing. Staff does not seem stoked to be there. Give them a raise.

Positive experience: Good gym. Not super clean but with so many members it's hard to keep clean during the day. Lots of people all hours. Good equipment and a Pool. One thing is they are not a Silver Sneakers member and therefore, my insurance can't pay my dues. otherwise, good gym

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Suz, Thank you for your honest feedback. We're glad to hear you enjoy the equipment, pool, and overall atmosphere at our gym. We understand that cleanliness can be a challenge during peak hours, and we’re continuously working with our team to stay on top of it throughout the day. Cleanliness is a top priority for us!

Regarding SilverSneakers, while we're not currently a participating location, we offer discounted senior membership pricing and are always exploring ways to serve our members and community better.

Thanks again for your review — we hope to keep making your experience a positive one!

Negative experience: Well I was looking to get a gym membership at the town club. I called beforehand and asked the lady who answered the phone what I needed to do to get a guest pass. She told me all I needed was to come and bring $10 to get in. So I did exactly that and when I arrived at the front desk I was rudely told that I couldn’t enter without an accompanying member (kind of hard to get when I’m new to the gym). Which I tried to explain that I had called before hand and no one told me that I needed a member there with me to get into the facility. I find it pretty hard to get a membership at a gym that won’t even let me try out the gym (with payment Ofcourse for the free trial) or even see what it looks like. Needless to say I’m taking my business to Verdure. They let me come in and try out the gym for a Fee of $15 and were very nice to me.

Amarillo Town Club

We apologize for the misunderstanding that led to a frustrating experience for you and a missed opportunity for us. We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service, and it appears we dropped the ball with you. To be clear, at the ATC, members can bring guests for $10, but we do not allow walk-in visits. We limit access to only members and their guests, which helps prevent overcrowding and provides our members with the best fitness experience possible. However, we provide prospective members with a detailed tour of both locations and answer any questions before joining. A membership at the ATC gives you all-access to both ATC locations, including an enormous selection of cardio and weight equipment, over 85 group exercise classes weekly, a turf performance center, multiple pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, infrared saunas, and more. Our memberships are month-to-month with no hidden or recurring fees and no contracts. If it is not too late, we would appreciate the chance to earn your business. Stop by either ATC location, and we will gladly assist you.

Negative experience: Was a loyal member there for 13 yrs until my 14 yr old wanted to start lifting with his dad. They don't allow anyone under 16 on the weight floor. Even with adult supervision. Went down the street to another gym and they were quite accepting to my son and me. Quit on the spot.

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Mike, Health and safety are the primary concerns of the Amarillo Town Club's age restriction policies. Our age policy regarding free weights for children under the age of 16 is based on the recommendations of the American College of Sports Medicine. To quote: "There is the potential for serious injury if safety standards for youth strength training, such as competent supervision, qualified instruction, safe equipment, and age-related training guidelines are not followed. All youth strength training programs must be closely supervised by knowledgeable professionals who understand the uniqueness of children and have a sound comprehension of youth strength training guidelines. During adolescence, training-induced strength gains may be associated with increases in muscle size, but this is unlikely to happen in prepubescent children who lack adequate levels of muscle-building hormones." Member safety is our #1 concern. As such, we have set a minimum age of 16 for members who can use free weights simply because the risk of injury outweighs the potential benefits. Children ages 12-15 can do many activities in our club if they are under adult supervision or have completed our youth training class. We offer many excellent services for strength training, such as a complete circuit of pin-select weight machines, numerous functional fitness activities in our Performance Center, and Group Exercise classes that focus on strength building. We are sincerely glad you exercise with your son–even if it's not at the ATC. We are sorry to see you go. We wish you and your son successful (and safe) training!

Positive experience: I love the gym, been a member for a while now. The staff are great! The locker rooms were just updated. Everything is nice but I'm giving it a 3 star just because the women's locker room doesn't have the same frosted doors on the sauna like the men's. You have zero privacy! PLEASE ADD THE FROST TO THE DOORS!!

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Stacy, we appreciate you taking the time to review us. We're happy to hear our staff has made a great impression on you!Good news: we are planning to frost the steam room doors. We opened that locker room about a week ago, and we still need to wrap up a few last-minute punch list items. Frosted doors are one of them. We are so excited to be able to offer this beautifully renovated locker room for our members. We hope you'll enjoy it for years to come!

Jason Ford 1 year ago

Positive experience: Great equipment, but maintenance needed with the huge pool, drinking fountains. A men's room is under endless renovation.

Amarillo Town Club

Thanks, Jason! We appreciate the review. We are finalizing the finishing touches to the locker rooms to have them open to our members.

Negative experience: Update: 8/20/25 ATC responded saying they were going to watch more. It hasn’t gotten any better. Last night three kids played around the new workout part of the track upstairs while their mom worked out. Today, I quit my workout after a mom brought her kids who had been having fun swinging on the TRX ropes to do gymnastics on the turf right in front of me. This isn’t a daycare. It’s not safe, it’s time to look for a new gym. I’ve been going to ATC for years. When I started my kids were under 10 and had to either sit or had to be in the kids zone. In the last year I noticed kids, sometimes like 4 or 5 playing on equipment while their parents workout. This week I worked out probably 5 or 6 days and there was not a single day that I didn’t work out near or next to young kids right now there is a young girl playing on the smith machine type structure like monkey bars. She has weights out, a band, a box and is running back and forth between her mom lifting and playing. Another day this week I had to weight to do the stair climber while a dad let his kids no way they were older than 5 and 7 get through. They then went back and forth from the bikes and treadmills playing for an hour. Another day a mom came in and literally took up 6 treadmills between her and her little kids. I’ve seen someone give their kids a TRX and 3 bossu balls to play on. I get it! I am a parent and it’s hard. I love that the kids want to exercise, But it’s not safe. I’ve seen machines fall on heads, weights get dropped on people, kids get seriously injured. it makes parents who are near have to worry about the kids getting hurt and it interferes with people trying to get in a legit workout.

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Nick,
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback — and for being a long-time member. You're absolutely right: for safety reasons, children are not permitted on the gym floor or equipment. While our staff does regular rounds, it's clear we’ve been overlooking some important issues, and we appreciate you bringing them to our attention. We will be addressing this internally to ensure a safer, more focused environment for all members.

Thanks again for your support and for helping us improve.

Negative experience: rather than a negative review, which is useless, allow me to err on the side of Hope! Come on ATC, lets up your game, offer cleaner facilities and better services! you were once the best in Amarillo....lets get back there, im pulling for ya

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Paul, thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you're pretty upset with your experience with us. We would like to visit with you in person or over the phone to see if we can further discuss your concerns. Our goal is to provide you with the best member experience possible. If we are missing the mark, let's see how we can fix that. As you know, our locker rooms are going through a complete remodel. We realize that temporarily using the poolside locker room isn't ideal, but we are confident that you will be delighted with the result once our main locker rooms are back open. We do clean and maintain our locker rooms daily. After a thorough inspection, we haven't found any of the issues you mentioned in your comment. Regarding our machines and weight equipment, we are constantly investing in new equipment. All of our equipment looks and performs as if it is brand new. (And there's a good chance it is brand new.) Please stop by the front desk anytime you have concerns, and we will address them promptly. We haven't been voted Amarillo's best gym for 21 years in a row for having foul smells and second-hand equipment—quite the contrary. If you are unsatisfied with your membership, please contact Doug Jesko, our facility director, who would be happy to visit with you, listen to your concerns, or offer a refund if necessary.

Graham Cull 1 year ago

Negative experience: EDIT: the response from ATC shows they either aren't listening to what I said or don't care. Don't bother trying to lap swim here. They have private clubs that reserve half of the pool during peak hours, and the entire pool between 3:30 and 5:30 pm daily on weekdays, and other clubs come in after until 8:30. Plus, they host swim meets here and do the bare minimum of communication around it, so youre SOL if they have a meet. Pretty useless to advertise a lap pool.

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Graham, we understand it can be disappointing to plan to work out in the lap pool only to find no lanes available. Typically, if you wait a few minutes, someone will finish their training, and you can jump right in after they are finished. We have a large membership of swimmers at our club who are just as passionate as you, and during peak times, it can get a little congested. Regarding the swim teams, we post our lap pool schedule at the club, on our website, and on our mobile app. Knowing our schedule ahead of time should alleviate any scheduling conflicts. Having the area’s only 8-lane lap pool comes with the challenge of managing this scarce resource. However, we strive to limit disruptions by the AISD swim teams by limiting their use to the low-utilization hours of 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during their swim season. During all other times, we have lanes available exclusively to ATC members. The ATC has always supported our local high school athletes and swim clubs by allowing them to use our pool for their practices. This partnership is just one of the ways the ATC fulfills our not-for-profit mission to provide health and wellness services to the Amarillo community. We realize this can be situationally inconvenient to some, but AISD could not offer competition swimming as part of their athletics programming without this arrangement. We appreciate you being a member, and we hope that avoiding scheduling conflicts in the future will allow you to continue on your fitness journey with us.

Positive experience: Go into the mens lockerroom sit in the hot tub which is oddly small. And catches forien water at floor level. Look up at the vents sometime. Everyday i was there it was dirty thick. They close a day to clean then vents are still very heavily the same. The outdoor pool makes the city public pools look luxurious. Its very outdated. Other then that i enjoyed the rest

Collin Sharp 2 years ago

Positive experience: It's a nice gym but in my opinion, not enough of specific equipment or space. For the price it's great, and if you enjoy aquatics then you'll definitely think it's an amazing gym. Plenty of indoor pool area for exercising, and there's a sauna so that's nice if you use it. Really just needs more equipment and space, but that would be hard to manage without a bigger building. Great staff also.

Justin Flores 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Amarillo town club gets five stars. Great variety of equipment. Staff if helpful and polite. Many knowledgeable personal trainers. Facility is very clean. Excelente daycare for the kids. The daycare and its staff are far superior to the other gyms in this area we have tried, this makes it an excellent gym for people in need of childcare while they exercise. Two swimming pools. One outdoors for the kids to enjoy in the summer and one indoor for cardio exercise. Very fair price for all the things you get access to, worth the money.

Rigo Baeza 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: New home gym. Very clean environment. Equipment is always working, although it can get busy from time to time. Staff is very welcoming. The cycling class can be intense but also friendly and welcoming. There is usually a good variety of happenings in the gym and they offer great classes.

Nichita Trifan 2 years ago

Negative experience: READ THIS: 1. Gym area is pretty small. 2. The location on Hillside has a very small room for cross fitness. 3. The main pain is that I got this membership because of the indoor lap pool. However, there are a lot of problems if you want to swim. During the summer they lock the restroom which is next to the pool. So if you have to use a bathroom you basically need to end your training or walk all wet across the gym area. Next, when school starts the swimming team occupies at least 4 out of 8 lanes at the pool. They will kick you out of those lanes if you are not done. I could not even get a recent schedule to clarify exactly when they have their training. Moreover, when I tried to argue about I was told that the pool works on the "first comes first serves" basis, but in reality if swimming team pays more than you then technically you don't count anymore :) 4. Bathrooms are not the cleanest ones. 5. Steam room is mostly dirty because people decide to sit in it fully dressed with their shoes on. As a result everyone has to breath all the bacteria and dirt from their shoe soles. 6. Never try to argue with staff because no one wants to hear you nor help you. You decide now! I was waiting to post this for a long time already!

Amarillo Town Club

Hi Nichita,Thank you for taking the time to review us and provide your candid feedback regarding our clubs. We understand your frustration and appreciate the opportunity to address your specific concerns. As you can tell by our other online reviews, we try very hard to ensure all of our customers are satisfied and have a positive experience. Our goal is to give our members access to everything they need to help them on their fitness journey. As you know, over the last few months at our Hillside location, we have upgraded all the free-weight and plate load equipment and our dumbbells. We rearranged over 60 pieces of weight equipment during this process to provide as much working space as possible. Let us know if there is a specific piece of weight equipment you feel we need to include or if you have arrangement suggestions for the weight floor. As you pointed out, our Hillside location doesn’t focus on cross-fitness. The room provided is designed to allow privacy for our members while stretching or performing mat-based exercises. If you are interested in athletic performance and an Olympic-style lifting experience, our Cornell location has one of the largest cross-fitness gyms in the area.As an ATC member, you can access the area’s only indoor competition-sized 8-lane lap pool. However, being the area’s only pool also comes with managing this scarce resource. The ATC has always supported our local high school athletes and swim clubs by allowing them to use our pool for their practices. This partnership is just one of the ways the ATC fulfills our not-for-profit mission to provide health and wellness services to the Amarillo community. We strive to inform our members that the only time lanes are unavailable is during the low-utilization hours. We realize that this can be situationally inconvenient to some, but without this arrangement, AISD could not offer competition swimming as part of their athletics programming. We post our lap pool schedule at the club, on our website, and our mobile app. Knowing our schedule ahead of time should alleviate any scheduling conflicts. Internally, we strive to make the clubs so clean that our members notice. We want our members to see us cleaning throughout the day, making our effort conspicuous as well. It sounds like we have missed the mark with you on that ideal. To address your specific comment, shoes are prohibited in our steam rooms. Inform the staff, and we will address rule violations immediately. Also, from the pictures posted, the rust issues and grout deterioration are what you noticed most. While we try to maintain and thereby prevent issues of this type, the constant humidity created by the hot tubs and steam rooms eventually wins out. It has not gone unnoticed by the ATC, and we have already ordered replacement stainless steel hardware. Unfortunately, facilities age, and ultimately, they reach the point where more drastic measures are necessary. Rest assured, just as we have done in other areas of our clubs, we will continue to remodel, repair, replace, or otherwise reinvest in the ATC to keep our facilities well-maintained. Hopefully, since you have been a member for a considerable length of time, you have seen that we are adding something new or remodeling something old every year. We honestly never stop.Lastly, and most concerning, “arguing” should never be part of a member’s interaction with the ATC staff. We sincerely want to hear your concerns. It allows us the opportunity to live up to our commitment to provide superior customer service. We thank you for taking the time to post a review. Please consider taking the time to speak with either Doug Jesko, our Director at the Cornell location, or Nick Wolleat, our manager at the Hillside location. Both would be glad to visit with you in person or over the phone, and your direct feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Negative experience: The gym has gone downhill really bad in the last 10 years!!!!(Terrible Customer Service)!! Continue reading (Member for 10 years)!!⬇️ !!The majority of the staff are rude and don’t greet you anymore it used to feel like a second home.!!! The men’s locker room (Steam room and sauna haven’t worked in two years) Now the mens locker room has been under construction since December. !!(Olympic Indoor Pool) If you’re part of the working class and want to use the pool, GOOD LUCK you’ll have to fight over open lanes with high school students “…. They’ll say that they only use 4 lanes, but their friends, students or people on other swim teams use the other lanes !! You will literally see people getting off work wanting to swim laps…it’s extremely annoying!!! The only time I can go use the pool and know that there might be a lane open is between ( 8:45PM and 10:00pm) Honestly, I loved this gym at one point !! But I would highly recommend spending a little extra money and go to (Verdure) it’s sad that the staff don’t care about the members anymore!!

The locker rooms/restrooms are kept up pretty good never seen them filthy filthy usually they keep them clean not perfect but you get my point. People around mind their business and do their thing so never really had issues with anyone, plenty of parking space they keep those pretty well maintained. Rarely do I use their swimming pools so can't really give my opinion. The exercise equipment are pretty good nothing too old and plenty to use to get a good work out all around the body. Over all it is a pretty good gym so highly recommend, but that is my opinion go try it and check it out for yourself.

Fantastic experience: Clean. Friendly staff. I swim and the pool is comfortable and large. They have a smaller pool for water aerobics and the like but I have never used it. They also have a large outdoor pool for the summer. There is a large weight training area, walking track and stationary bicycle facility that I would guess us close to state of the art. Downside is stairs, a few going into dressing rooms and a second story for spin lab, walking path, and ellipticals. There is an elevator. I handle pretty well even though my knees are shot.

Fantastic experience: We've tried several gyms in our area and we are really happy with Town Club. They have two locations here in Amarillo, on on Hillside near 575 Pizza and one behind Harbor Freight on Bell and 45th. Only the Hillside location has a steam room and hot tub so I tend to go there more often. Neither locations are very busy, the staff at both are friendly and both facilities are clean. The location behind Harbor Freight is two story and I usually go upstairs to get my Zone 2 cardio workout in before weights. They have weight machines on both levels so like I said, it never feels crowded and I haven't had to wait for a machine. Their rates just went up $5 per month but I still think it's pretty affordable, considering all they offer. Both locations have outdoor pools that should be opening up at the end of this month (May 2022) but the location behind Harbor Freight also has an Olympic size indoor pool and a smaller pool where you can take kids to play. The big pool is for laps only. I recommend trying them out, there's no contract so you can quit at any time.

Positive experience: I have been going to this gym for years & i have loved it up until recently. I go around 5:30 am - 6:30 am & it has gotten ridiculously busy to where there’s no equipment or machines. You have to wait to use the machines. The majority of my workout this morning i was standing waiting for availability. I even had another man rudely ask me to move this morning because i was “in his way” and i was standing away from the equipment and where he was working out. The cable machines were completely full.. there weren’t any available dumbbells unless you’re using the 2.5 lbs. There’s no personal space.. barley any room to workout. It’s just gotten crazy. I would rather pay for a more expensive gym for more personal space and equipment availability.

Fantastic experience: Great place to work out. The facility has everything you need and a great staff working there. The facility is always clean. Members are respectful of each other and it is family friendly as well, with a kids center so parents can work out with no worries. I'm new here, but I have nothing but positive vibes here.

Negative experience: Amarillo Town Club Sunday Closure Policy I’ve recently learned that, according to Doug Jesko, the general manager of Amarillo Town Club, the gym is officially closed on Sundays and will remain closed as a general policy. While changes in operational hours to accommodate sanitation crews is certainly a reasonable update to policy in a pandemic, this is a rather radical change, and stands out as the exception to the rule in the landscape of West Texas gyms. Among the nearly twenty distinct gym franchises in the Amarillo city limits, the Amarillo Town Club is the only gym closed on Sundays. Recently, however, the logic for the closure has changed from a reaction to the pandemic to a religious accommodation. For those who don’t know, Amarillo Town Club is owned and operated by Baptist Community Services, and the policy is now being explained as a Christian family stance. This is somewhat admirable, but it completely disregards the wants and needs of it’s paying members. Also, as an important note, this decision is financially glaring. While the overhead may be lowered for the two gym locations by not being open that extra day, those savings are not being translated to the gym members in any way (aside from added inconvenience). Amarillo Town Club is incredibly popular among working people, and particularly working families, and not having a gym open during their very narrow window of free time is a glaring weakness in such a small city that gets more and more fitness facilities every year. This policy also affects parents taking their children to the pool in the summer. Obviously, Sundays are one of the few days families can do something collectively. I say all of this because I genuinely love the Amarillo Town Club. I’ve been going here for years, but this policy is so detrimental to the people that pay membership dues month after month. I’m sure, like myself, many people feel forced to make a better choice for their dues, their schedules, and their lives, and I feel this will negatively impact what truly has been an outstanding part of the Amarillo community. Steve Dalrymple is the President and CEO of Baptist Community Services, and maybe he can still be persuaded that this should be a temporary solution to a temporary problem, before they lose too much to be able to stand up to their growing competition. If you want to see the Town Club continue to succeed and provide for its members to the level of service that is expected in Amarillo, Texas, I highly encourage you guys to reach out to Mr. Dalrymple and Baptist Community Services. Regards, Mark Gonzales
