Anytime Fitness Downtown Des Moines

Fantastic experience: I travel a lot of work, and this is one of the nicest anytime fitness I've ever visited. Facilities are clean, equipment all working. Best of all? It's on the 2nd floor with lots of windows allowing natural light to flood the gym area.

Fantastic experience: Scenic, bright, spacious. The space and all the equipment are kept in pristine condition. They really do a great job maximizing space as well so you never feel like it's too crowded. Everyone is very respectful of each other's space and I've never heard anyone grunting loudly or dropping weights on the ground, (IYKYK). The gym itself is easy to get to and if you're lucky you might even get a chance to wave to Danny Devito.

The gym has plenty of natural light and a spacious layout, making it one of the most aesthetically pleasing facilities. The equipment is top-notch, clean, and well-organized, with a relaxed and welcoming vibe for everyone. The staff is friendly, and I love the extra perks like the filtered water machine and private bathrooms.

Negative experience: Paid way too much for this gym. Ended up moving and switching banks. Without any notice took a huge hit on my credit and owe collections big time for false reporting. Scum bag gym owners milking people for every penny they can get.

Fantastic experience: This is a great place to work out. The staff is awesome. I participate in the senior fitness class that's offered three days a week in a small group. The class is challenging, and the trainer does a great job.

Fantastic experience: Excellent spot to work out, and it’s always available to you as a member. The staff and the owner are incredible. Special shoutout to Emma and Colleen. Equipment is top notch, and the place is always clean. There’s plenty of room, and I’ve never seen it overcrowded. Check this place out if you’re looking for a gym in the area.

Great layout of the racks and machines. Focused, respectful working out inside by everyone. Has an accepting inviting feel for those new to the location. You can Have a great workout here and get a stand up tan!

Negative experience: I have been a member of this community for a long time, in November 7 they charged me double the membership fee, I asked the manager how they charged me double the membership fee, they said they would check again on December 7, they charged me double the membership fee, I talked to the manager and said that it is expensive for me and that I would transfer to another fitness center, they told me that it was OK, that same day they canceled my key, so I can't go to another fitness center, and my membership fee lasts until January 7, 2024, so they stole the 17 days that I paid for.

Negative experience: Good luck getting out of a membership if you want to leave. The manager Colleen there is a scammer. Many empty promises, I’ve been told they will cancel it for fourth months now and they still are charging my account. Worst experience I’ve ever had at a gym, I’m honestly dumbfounded.

Fantastic experience: I came for a business trip and couldn’t handle the hotel gym, decided I’d show up here and get a guest pass. The director of training found me outside at 5am (where you have to scan in) and treated me like family from that point on. Gave me a badge to scan the rest of my trip. So helpful and really nice gym especially since it’s 24/7. I’d leave my home gym if I lived here. Thanks again!

Positive experience: Great place! All the equipment you could need. Would only recommend removing the very strong air freshener. It is wayyy strong and distracting during my workout. Hits you in the face on the way in, too. The facility is located near some food joints, but I’d rather smell that than the fumes of whatever pho fragrance this has. It smells incredibly toxic. :( pls fix!

Fantastic experience: Definitely my #1 choice in Des Moines. I was in town on business for a couple months but wasn't a big fan of the other gyms in the area. Amber was extremely helpful and made it a great experience. My only gripe is there's no calf machines, but this seems to be the trend in the area.

Fantastic experience: We spent a few days in Des Moines last week. We called Amber in advance and she was able to set us up so we could come for a few workouts. She was extremely friendly and accommodating. The gym was quite large and had everything we needed. We will definitely be back on our next visit! Thanks for everything Amber!

Fantastic experience: This is my favorite Anytime location. I originally signed up in Urbandale and thought I would go there most of the time but I enjoy the machines downtown more. This location is very well-maintained. And, it smells so much cleaner than the others. When I first started coming here, I was worried about the dents in the floors from dropped weights, but they fixed those soon after. I really appreciate a gym that cares about their patrons and their safety. I also used to work out pretty late at night and always felt safe there. Now that my schedule has changed to days, I come in the afternoons and have been able to meet Colleen, the Operations Director. She helped me look for some missing earbuds. And Quentin, one of the trainers is always welcoming when I visit. The staff is amazing! They're easy to talk to and you can tell that they truly care about everyone's well-being. This location is slightly on the smaller side but they have the most advantageous selection of weights and machines. Everything is properly spaced out so that you're not on top of each other. This place makes me want to work out, and like it. I can't say enough good things.

Fantastic experience: I was in town this week for the 2022 World Food Prize and was looking for a place to work out. This Anytime Fitness was walking distance from my hotel and had all my gym equipment needs! Amber was so nice and provided me a guest membership.

Negative experience: This might be the first time I’ve ever made a review, definitely the first time I’ve reviewed a gym before. Unfortunately, there is nothing positive I can say about this place. I’ve lived in Texas, California, New Jersey, Indiana, and Iowa and without question this was the worst gym I’ve belonged to, both from a facility and ownership perspective. The only reason I was a member of this gym was because it was close to my apartment. However, in hindsight I should have joined the YMCA or Planet Fitness. The gym is incredibly small and feels even smaller during rush hours (before work and after work). They don’t have very many machines (particularly the popular ones) and having to wait for one to become available becomes a serious issue. The trainers are less than average and it feels like a revolving door of trainers. The decent trainers leave for somewhere else leaving only the less than stellar ones behind. You can get a good sense of how a place operates based on how often employees leave and the trainers were always leaving. I’ve never seen anything like that before. The equipment/machines always seem to be broken and then they leave a sign on equipment that says replacing soon…however it never seems to be replaced. I think there were two treadmills they were planning on replacing for months but it never happened. Then, they raise their gym membership prices for “upgraded equipment”. Ownership is awful. Rarely there and when he is there he’s not very friendly. Definitely not much of a culture/community at this gym. This was a quote from the owner when I was trying to cancel my membership (I didn’t realize I had to show I was moving and he needed my new address). His response is immature, childish, condescending, and unnecessary. “Please work with us here. You are not being reasonable. There is no address showing where you moved. Do not make us have to explain basic functions of life to you and talk down to you on this subject. If this is truly confusing please ask your parents for help.” I wouldn’t recommend this gym to anyone. There are much better options in the greater Des Moines area. The facility, machines, trainers, and ownership all need to be improved for me to ever go back there again.

Fantastic experience: Partner and I were in town to visit the State Fair and Amber, the manager, gave us a very warm welcome to this well-situated, well-equipped and spotless new gym. Great variety of machines and free weights. Super cool body composition analyzer that I wish ever gym had!

Fantastic experience: Wow! What a clean Anytime! This club is a gem. I was visiting from Wisconsin and was treated like a king. The club manager was very attentive and genuinely interested in my life and fitness journey. Club layout was great with lots of natural lighting as this facility is on the second floor overlooking down town. Plenty of equipment and very spacious.If you are a local or just visiting this is the club for you!

Fantastic experience: The staff was very friendly, the equipment was clean, and the view was amazing! The view makes this gym look like an expensive gym for sure. They have vending machines as well as a scale to measure your muscle and fat weight. The bathrooms are also nice, private and all separate. Fantastic experience: This gym is great for its location. They have a versatile set of free weights to include kettlebells, dumbbells up to 100s, and copious amounts of plates/barbells. The atmosphere is great. They made the most of the space and it does not feel cramped at all. The staff and people are welcoming. The bathrooms/showers are all individual use. Additionally, to top off everything, it’s one of the cleanest gyms I’ve ever been too. I highly recommend checking out this gym regardless of wether your are newer or an experienced gym goer!!!

Fantastic experience: We visited Des Moines and Anytime Fitness was just down the block from our hotel. This facility has a cool view from the 2nd floor looking out to downtown. They have all the equipment you need and we found the layout very well planned. The town is very nice - we highly recommend this gym to locals, or if planning to visit.

Fantastic experience: I have had such a great experience at Anytime Fitness Downtown DSM. The staff is amazing and super supportive. I have been a member since November 2021 and I was initially a bit nervous joining a gym being inexperienced and a bit out of shape. The staff and fellow members are so welcoming and supportive. I will be moving out of state and I wish I could bring the staff at this gym to my new city as they are so amazing. I haven't gotten to meet all the staff but the staff that I have met (Haley, Amber, Travis, Kelli and an intern which I don't remember his name) are all amazing and so supportive. This gym is perfect for people with all skill levels and I feel that they care about their members, unlike larger gyms that I have been a member of years back. It feels that you are an individual rather than a number. The staff all know you by name, do check ins, and you can even download an app to book trainings and communicate with your assigned coach. The classes they offer are also great. They teach you a lot of great exercises that you can use in other workouts too and are a perfect place for those who are beginners or who want to just have a team or small group work out setting. In addition to the staff and the classes, they also have nice facilities. One thing I really like is the private bathrooms and showers. They are perfect for those who are going to the gym before or after work and need a place to change or get ready. I highly recommend joining this gym.

Fantastic experience: We were in town for a week from DC to visit family for the holidays. We called a few other gyms in the downtown area that weren’t willing to work with us for a week long membership. When we got a hold of Amber she was so friendly and happy to give us a week long membership for both of us at a very generous rate. The location is great, clean and had everything we needed. The bonus is there is parking that is free for two hours with validation. For anyone visiting Des Moines that needs a great gym, call Amber, she’s awesome. Thanks Amber!

Fantastic experience: Came in for a few workouts while I was here from out of town. Wow, wow, wow! This is one of the nicest Anytime locations I’ve trained at. Several squat racks, abundant turf area, kettlebells galore. I was impressed. It wasn’t crowded in the mornings, and people were generally friendly. Best of all, they validate parking, and the process was easy to use. I will definitely be coming back here to train the next time I’m in town.

I already have a gym membership back in CA so I don’t need a full membership so I like to take advantage of the affordable extended paid day passes when I come I to town. Aside from the space, equipment, and convenient location Amber and her team have been extremely accommodating and welcoming and even remember me by name!

Fantastic experience: I wish I could give more than 5 stars here! I came to town on business last weekend and was in desperate need of a gym last minute. I contacted Amber and asked what my options would be, as I was only gonna be there for the night. Even though she had already left for the night, she went out of her way to meet me at the facility and get me all set up. On a Friday night, at 6:30pm! I'm just not used to someone going out of their way like that for me. I was thoroughly impressed. Next time I'm in town that'll be the only place I'll be working out. The facility itself was perfectly clean and had everything I needed for my workout.

Fantastic experience: The Anytime Downtown is a beautiful building with clean equipment and staff that goes above and beyond. They are always so helpful in reaching out about anything they can help with and for getting back to you quickly. I love the motivation in this gym by other members and it is definitely one of the best gyms I have been to.

Fantastic experience: I used to go the golds gym in west Des Moines whenever I would visit Des Moines, but I found that it had closed. I heard that the downtown anytime fitness had a day pass rate so I went to check it out. It has everything I needed. Dumbbell sets from 5 to 100 lbs, ez bar sets from 20-100 lbs, various squat racks that double as bench press benches, various cardio machines and a set of weight machines for various body parts. They also have a cable system setup for pull downs, seated pulls, cable flys, etc. As well as a stretching area with bands and mats. No one was wearing masks except for me, but that seems to be the situation in all of Des Moines right now. The gym was clean and had hand sanitizing machines, and a dispensor for wet wipes that could be used to wipe down equipment. The gym was also well maintained with no equipment out of order, however the ceiling was crumbling in places, but nothing that made me think that it would fall in. Staff was kind and it wasn't too busy while I was there (which was midday on a weekday).
