American Fork Fitness Center: Opinions

Fantastic experience: Love this pool! So much fun. Great slide and lazy river.
Fantastic experience: Good rec center
Fantastic experience: Great family oriented place with lots to do. The pool is obviously the main attraction. Staff is alert and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Great place to take the family and workout.
Fantastic experience: Great outdoor pools for the kids. Just the right size to keep track of everyone while still providing enough space.
Fantastic experience: This pool rocks. Is heated so they can open it to an outdoor pool way earlier than everyone else. Diving board was fun, lap swimming was nice, great area for small kids too. Everything seemed clean. Happy with my experience!
Fantastic experience: Disclaimer: I did not work out here. But I would be happy to. Old facility, not busy on a Saturday afternoon surprisingly. Much more chill than a Vasa and bigger locker room than Vasa. I posted a pic of the essentially CrossFit room I found downstairs, separate from the weight room, which was pretty cool and unexpected. I only came to check it out to see if I wanted to work out there sometime, and I think I just might.
Negative experience: Apparently now we can't bring mermaid tails and the staff doesn't tell you until you're in the pool instead of at the desk. Please update this on your website
Fantastic experience: Excellent classes
Positive experience: Busier than usual, with the swim team practicing after school. Cleared out around 6:30pm
Negative experience: They took away my favorite gym equipment and replaced it with sucky machines!!!!!!!
Fantastic experience: The only place I ever go to swim. Love it here, and love the winter dome that lets me enjoy some pool time year round!
Fantastic experience: Precor Open Stride. Cybex arc trainer are both excellent
Fantastic experience: Good gym for a good price. Work out equipment is in good shape and lots of it.
Negative experience: WAY too many people; they haven’t updated anything since the early 90’s when I was there as a kid; and it’s not worth the price. Staff is nice, but that’s about it.
Negative experience: Do yourself a favor a do a free trial before going here and spending your money. The city of American Fork has to do better. The weight room (located in the basement), where there is no natural light to be found, looks like a deseret industries that just got a truck load of gym equipment donated last month. It is old, randomly scattered, and there is no room to breathe even when the gym is not crowded with people.
Fantastic experience: 很棒的水質及跳水設施
Fantastic experience: I love this pool, it’s big and it’s got a playground in the pool and it’s got a slide.
Fantastic experience: Nice facility. Lehi legacy center is being cleaned this week, so AF has a very nice weight room
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere, Great people. Fantastic equipment. I highly recommend going here. It's been fantastic
Fantastic experience: We had such an amazing experience at the outdoor pool! It had so much to offer and our whole family enjoyed it. A little thank you to whoever was in charge of the playlist, either you are a millennial or just appreciate good music but I felt like I was back in high school jamming with my friends haha. Great music choice!
Fantastic experience: Pleasant surprise! Clean pool, friendly staff, and not over crowded. Every public pool around was closing at 5 or 6 on Pioneer Day, not here they were open until 10!
Negative experience: Over-chlorinated, under regulated, and all the lifeguards all look exhausted and depressed. Management does nothing to maintain a safe environment, for patrons or employees.
Positive experience: Not a lot of shady options and if you go to the pool from the rec center entrance it's like a maze to get out to the pool but in all a fun pool.
Positive experience: Great fun pool to take kids to! There is a diving board, water slide, and lazy river. It's not super big so the kids won't get lost.
Fantastic experience: Love this place! Their pool is open all year round, and they’ve got awesome programs for kids from gymnastics to ninja warriors.
Fantastic experience: It was really fun! We came right as they turned the lazy river on. It was super cold, but really refreshing!
Fantastic experience: A very popular rec center
Fantastic experience: If you're looking for a recreation and family fitness center in American Fork that has a nice enclosed pool with an air-supported dome over it and where the Icebreaker triathlon is held every year, rain or shine, then you have found the place! I've only ever been here for the triathlon twice. The facilities are great and clean and well-staffed. And the triathlon is awesome, despite a murder hill.
Positive experience: Went there to use their gymnasium for a gymnastic competition. Had good equipment. Not much seating for spectators
Positive experience: Okay place, but the pool is lacking without the outdoor space.
Fantastic experience: Love the Olympic pool length. If they ever remodel they should never remove the pool.
Negative experience: My daughter and I like to come here however, sometimes kids can use the spa, sometimes they can't, depending on which lifeguard is watching. The "rule board" is sometimes out, sometimes not, and is so wrinkled you can't read it. I watched one lifeguard stare and pick at his leg for a solid 10 minutes without looking up. Get consistent so we know what to expect. It's hard to tell you child why they were able to get in the hot tub last week but not this week. Update: here today at 5 pm and the male life guard in a black hoodie is sitting by the hot tub is quite whistle happy. It's still interesting to me that some lifeguards sit there half asleep, and this guy is blowing is whistle and I can't for the life of me figure out who is misbehaving, it just seems like he is angry that he has to be here at work right now. The lifeguards never seem happy to work here and they show it in various ways Also, sometimes kids can get in the hot tub all the way, sometimes they can only dip their feet in, and today with this very angry life guard, if they so much as touch the hot tub water with a toe nail, he blades the whistle, from 5 feet away, instead of kindly asking them to back up. Again, the rules are not posted. Your child's first warning will be a whistle blast 5 feet within earshot.
Positive experience: Pretty good but vasa better
Fantastic experience: The facility is very clean. It has many options for exercise. The staff is friendly and the instructors seem to know their “stuff.” I enjoy my time there —even though exercise is my least favorite thing to do!
Positive experience: Cycle class is fun. Lap lanes in the pool make for good exercise.
Positive experience: Very rude gymnastics instructors...my daughter went to hug one of them and she was super rude...I dont understand how they put people like that to work with KIDS if they dont know how to be nice with them. I understand not everyone feels comfortable with hugs but there are way nicer ways to react.
Fantastic experience: No issues
Positive experience: New equipment is nice.
Positive experience: Great value. Not most modern facility
Positive experience: Equipment is functional and the atmosphere is great for working out
Fantastic experience: Clean, safe place for your family to spend an hour or a day.
Positive experience: Nice pool, but sad that there's no basketball court.
Positive experience: Fun all times of the year.
Fantastic experience: We love the different classes and equipment along with the recreation activities and teams for our children!
Fantastic experience: One of the only pools that allows floats! That’s a huge bonus for my kids!
Positive experience: This place always seams to have an event going on. It makes it hard to swimming. That pool is full. Also the lifeguards don't really police the hot tub.
Fantastic experience: AF rec does such a great job. What a fun place to enjoy a summer day!
Positive experience: It gets pretty packed but it’s a fun pool for all ages!
Fantastic experience: Our family loves the pool and the other amenities are fantastic. We take several classes here too
Positive experience: I don’t love the pool, but the spin room is awesome! The staff here was super friendly!
Positive experience: The pool was great to enjoy in these hot dog days of summer. Loved the nachos and lazy river.
Fantastic experience: Best place to do swimming lessons. We love the music they play while you swim and it's priced affordable!
Fantastic experience: My two boys had swimming lessons with Lavender and she was wonderful! So sweet with my boys and so great at her job.
Fantastic experience: Great rec center. Plan to swim in the future but great for our weekly runs in the winter and weight lifting. Building is old but they keep the machines running.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work. Friendly helpful staff, and the pool has a kid area as well as a huge slide and a diving board during the summer.
Negative experience: The service was deplorable and completely unprofessional with serious mistakes on their part along with intentional insulting. I have never been insulted by a lady that I pay to let me in the building. My family had classes here. We were accused of not checking in. I had gone out of my way to check in after dropping my child off at her class, which I also had to check into. The check points are exhausting when you don't have extra time to wait in line at both. What really shocked me is that Ginny told me that I did not learn much from my parents. Yes. She told me that I was the problem. I was shocked. I went to upper management to report that and upper management did nothing while she insulted me again. Another sign they are unprofessional and deplorable- they overcharged me $60.00 for my child's class and then there lady, Ginny, denied it, until I had her manager check. Then they found out they had overcharged me. On top of that they will not give me my money back in full! They will only give it back if they can deduct 15%! I am just so appalled. They desperately need new management here and a new front desk attendant who can do her job, without insulting her customers in from of their paying family. I am still shocked. Avoid if you can.
Negative experience: Don't sign your kids up for swimming lessons here at this "lifeguard-on-duty" facility unless you want to watch the lifeguard flirt with a girl and the swimming teachers forget your child, resulting in the almost-drowning of your 3-year-old. Today, my nephew almost drowned during swimming lessons at this pool. Both he and his cousins have been coming to the American Fork Recreation Center all summer for swimming lessons. Up until this point, there have been no problems. Normally, if this were any other business, that would be fine. However, when the business at hand plays with the life and death of your kid (and you trust them to keep them alive), I feel the most acceptable amount of slip ups or problems here should be 0. While the swimming teachers were in a circle playing with the other kids in the swimming class, my nephew was outside of the circle. He began to back up towards the deeper end of the pool. As the water got a little higher, he cried out. He hates the water touching his chest and neck. No one noticed except for his dad and his aunt. Then, the water took him under. No one noticed. The lifeguard on duty was flirting with a girl at his post and completely unaware of the issue, even as the child's guardians ran towards the water screaming for help. The swimming teachers didn't notice either. While I have more sympathy for them as the swimming class is full of 10+ children, I can't help but point out the irony of a kid drowning in a swimming class that is promoted as a way for your child to build "comfort in and around the water." His aunt, who ran towards the pool with the child's dad, could not jump in as she was holding a newborn. She called for help. Still, no one at the rec center responded. Instead, a fully-dressed woman who was sitting nearby jumped into the water and saved the boy. As he was pulled from the water, my nephew was coughing up water, crying and completely traumatized. I suspect his "comfort" in and around water has probably hit an all time low. His aunt, furious (and rightfully so) at the lack of care and help towards the situation, went to the lifeguard coordinator office and banged on the window. She asked that the lifeguard on duty be reprimanded. The coordinator she spoke to seemed unbothered and said that she had already handled the situation. We looked back at the lifeguard on duty and you wouldn't believe it.. He sat happily at his post, FLIRTING WITH THE SAME GIRL HE WAS FLIRTING WITH EARLIER! The near-drowning was one thing, but the lack of care towards the issue afterwards was even MORE frustrating. The aunt asked to speak to someone else but the person she was redirected to said they couldn't help. Finally, she went to the front desk, at this point in tears, asking for someone who could help make this right. She was directed to a woman who was very apologetic and caring. To that woman, thank you. We appreciate you. I'm writing this review for two reasons: Firstly, I am completely unhappy with the situation, as most parents would be. Almost losing a child at the hands of someone you trust is unacceptable. Period. Had my nephew's guardians not been keeping a close eye on him, I am fully confident he would have died. Secondly, I am not confident that much of anything has been done to reprimand the lifeguard on duty, nor am I sure that any documentation was done after the issue. The coordinator seemed absolutely disinterested in hearing our complaints and the lifeguard on duty remained at his post flirting with someone else, completely neglectful and careless. I want to post this so that, heaven forbid, if anything happens to a child while this lifeguard is working, there is a track-record of dereliction of duty. American Fork Recreation Center: Please do better. You have paying customers that not only trust you with the lives of their children, but also expect proper and delicate handling in the event of an emergency/misstep. A near-drowning is terrible, but everything afterwards is what made me write this review.
Fantastic experience: Awesome location. They have some great pool play stuff and a comfy eating area. All of the staff we interacted with were delightful!
Positive experience: Love love love AF Fitness and have been members for years. 4 stars because locker floors need mid-day and evening mopping in but I'm pretty sure mopping only happens at night after closing. So much mud can't be good for the pool.
Positive experience: Inexpensive, indoor track, pool is usually full, they don't post anything about pool available 5 foot area is limited for personal aerobics, usually has lessons or ropped off for student's. Had car damaged in lot. Filed report as they have cameras. No management would call back or address concerns. They clean the equipment, but bathrooms are often concerning with kids peeing on the floor or in the changing rooms. Lockers are squeaky, rusty and old, nice people that do little and have no authority or concern.
Fantastic experience: We've renewed our yearly membership here for years. We like the welcoming, laid back feel of it. It's a "Come as you are," type of place. It's not your high end, fancy gym if that is what you are looking for. It has amazing, top notch instructors, and all the workout equipment you need. They are constantly adding to it and improving it.
Positive experience: Need to rebuild. Old and needs updated.
Negative experience: Very old facility. Very little natural light. Very little space. I'd get a season pass for my family if it were upgraded to be more open and have more natural light like the one in Lehi. Pool is fun. Nice they have raquetball courts here. But there is no usable basketball gym!
Fantastic experience: The Lifeguards here are AMAZING! They are very involved with the citizens and make children feel special! Always in a positive and uplifting mood!
Fantastic experience: No issues
Fantastic experience: Google maps usually directs you to the lower parking lot of the Rec Center, which is fine is you are there for the pool in the summer time. However, all other Rec center activities, (Or swimming when the bubble is on) would require you to enter through the main entrance on the north side, where the parking lot is by the baseball field.
Fantastic experience: Sat morning spin class gets you moving and your day started on the right foot.
Negative experience: Me ser i es un ser sinsero
Positive experience: It's a little old but its alright for anyone looking for a rec center
Positive experience: Cramped walking track. In need of an up grade. I do like some of their cardio machines.
Fantastic experience: Love the 50 m pool! Friendly staff.
Positive experience: It needs some updates but it's still cool. I swim there every day.
Fantastic experience: We went to the pool and it was great! Well attended by lifeguards and a lot of fun
Fantastic experience: Fun to swim in winter as well as summer. The 9:30am Masters squad was a great group. Friendly, coaches and other swimmers.
Fantastic experience: This is a great place to exercise if you are hesitant to go to the other gym. Love the swim team programs. Great coaches!
Positive experience: Love the pool here. There are not too many things that you/ your kid will get lost but enough to not be bored. The track and cardio and stretching rooms are nuce. Four stars because the lessons arent good.
Fantastic experience: Always a great place to play and workout. 10
Positive experience: This has a really decent pool. Long Olympic length lap pool with a shallow kids area and 12ft deep area w/ 1 meter diving board. It looks like a 25m lap area near the diving board if they want to move the floats. The pool is enclosed by a large inflatable cover, similar to the one for UVU in Vineyard. Lighting wasn't great, but sufficient. Had a nice time!
Negative experience: If you want to swim laps and you aren’t part of a group you are out of luck. They offer one public swim lane and about 30 people want to swim in that lane. They are catering to school groups and classes where they make more money. I saw some women boot an older gentleman out of the lane because he didn’t swim fast enough. Find somewhere else to swim. I am
Positive experience: The pool has been laid back and fun for a few years now.. $20 family pass is great for big families. check the schedule to see if what you want is open before you go. Like the diving board is often closed due to laps swimming. This pool is fun and fairly relaxed. We really like that kids can get in the hot tub which isn't always the case with rec centers
Positive experience: This is a fairly small recreation center compared to other options in the area. $5 for adult day pass, $2 for track only. The track is extremely small, 12 miles for one lap - it gets old after a bit. There is a cardio room with tons of equipment for working out which was nice. There are racquetball courts which is always a personal favorite of mine. I think the greatest thing touted about this center is the pool. Which is unfortunately the thing I’ve used the last. My few times swimming in the pool have been nice though. The facilities seem a bit old and outdated. I can’t speak for the pool though, I haven’t had recent enough experience to know. Rather small facilities otherwise.
Fantastic experience: Nice staff, and lots of activities to choose from!
Fantastic experience: Nice indoor track. The lap and kiddie pools are awesome.
Fantastic experience: Always a great place to play and workout. 10
Fantastic experience: Great swim meet experience
Positive experience: Nice pool. The cardio equipment at the Pleasant Grove recreation center I like better. Good pool in American fork
Fantastic experience: Love the 50 m pool! Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Great place to exercise, fair prices for all the family
Fantastic experience: Ginny and Deb are the nicest and most helpful of any one I've dealt with in similar facilities. Always greet us with a smile. Racquetball courts well maintained. Restrooms are clean.
Fantastic experience: My kids love their ninja warrior classes
Fantastic experience: I love walking around the track at my own pace. Sometimes I stop for breaks to stretch sore muscles. The staff is friendly and caring!
Fantastic experience: A fun place to swim with kids. I also enjoy yoga and exercise class here. They have a nice track, running machines, and a weight room
Fantastic experience: It was great! People were nice and my family and I had a lot of fun. There's a swimming pool with lanes and a diving board, also an are for kids. There is only 7 people allowed in the hot tub at a time. There were also enough showers in the locker room. It costs $375 for a family pass up to 11 people.
Fantastic experience: Nice community oriented center! Good equipment and excellent pool!
Fantastic experience: 50 yard long course pool is great for tri training. Check their schedule to find out what days they have the long course set up
Fantastic experience: It's a nice, clean facility. Weight room is great, pool is well kept. Racquetball courts are nice just busy.
Fantastic experience: I love this place. I spent my days at the pool growing up. I worked here in high school. Now I still visit to use the gym. The gym environment is very healthy and happy. I feel this is a great gym, for any amount of experience. 100% would recommend stopping by to check it out.
Fantastic experience: Nice
Fantastic experience: Lugar para aprender a nadar muy grande y precioso cuidados excelentes!
