Jay, the owner, has created a gym that’s fully stocked with every piece of weightlifting equipment you could ever dream of, from racks and platforms to specialty bars, machines, and free weights in every size. The place is clean, organized, and has an old-school hardcore vibe that makes you want to push yourself harder. Jay’s passion for fitness shows in every detail, and you can tell he truly cares about the lifting community. If you’re serious about getting stronger, this is the place to be!

Fantastic experience: Great place to workout at! Modern machine weight and plenty of benches to use! This is mainly for lifting and no cardio classes. They do have elliptical, bicycle, etc. As well as trainers. Staff is awesome and polite.

Fantastic experience: Awesome gym. They hooked me up with a month long temporary membership while I was in town. At the end of that month, they gave me a free workout even though my membership expired 2 days before that. They are very Pro-military and Pro-Law enforcement. Safe place to workout and not too crowded. It's much better than Gold Gym.

Fantastic experience: This is the best gym I have been apart of and I have had quite a few different memberships. Equipment is extremely well maintained. I have seen multiple different machines have issues and it never took more then 24 hrs to get it back up. Also it seems like a new machine is being installed every week. Plenty of dumbbells and plates for all equipment even when the gym is packed. Everything is very clean and sanitary and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Also they make a delicious protein smoothie. I highly recommend you make this your forever gym.

Positive experience: This gym has incredible potential to become a top-tier destination. They’re in the process of upgrading equipment and have recently added new dumbbells. The staff is outstanding—welcoming and friendly—and they offer a solid selection of pre-workout, post-workout, and hydration RTD options. However, the music is typically too low and often geared toward what I’d imagine a 13 yr old girl listens to while working out, which might not suit most gym-goers. The lighting could also be improved, especially for those who create content. Overall, it’s a great space with room for a few adjustments to enhance the experience.

Fantastic experience: Great gym and atmosphere. The staff is great and you can tell there is a sense of community/identity within the gym. There is plenty of equipment of all types and I’ve never had to wait for something. We switched from Golds for this reason. Another great thing is their guest policy. It’s great for when friends are in town. They can grab a workout and it doesn’t cost 1/2 of a full month’s price like every other gym.

Fantastic experience: This place is LEGIT!!!! I visit the area a few times per year, and I just dropped in this morning to check it out. My only complaint is that I didn’t find it sooner. Tons of equipment, warehouse feel, racks/rigs and bumper plates for Olympic Lifting. Staff and members are super welcoming and helpful. This is THE SPOT! Looking forward to getting it in tomorrow morning. ️‍♂️

A great family owned local business with a lot of space and a good variety of equipment and free weights. Whether you’re just starting out or serious and training for an upcoming meet you will find others here to relate too. The environment is always positive with a small town feel. You can’t get this kind of atmosphere at a corporate gym so come out and join the American Fitness family.

Fantastic experience: I been coming to this gym in the mornings for about three weeks now and it’s starting to become one of the best highlights of my day. The staff is friendly, and the people coming here are friendly. Some of the equipment are old and some are new. The equipment is spread out so you have to walk around to find what you need but that’s no issue here. The sauna is small but I look forward to it every day. It’s a better experience than going to one of those big name brand gyms.

I was deployed overseas and the gym was very similar: nothing crazy, no cameras set up, people just pumping iron and sweating testosterone… I missed that environment a lot and American Fitness is just like that. As a former member, I expected better communication and transparency regarding billing matters. I urge others to be cautious when dealing with American fitness and to thoroughly avoid this gym since they engage in fraud.

Positive experience: Has never been too busy to where I can’t finish a workout. Well spaced out and plenty of workout equipment. The best part is the sauna and they replaced the old one with a new one and it’s perfect. They have showers if you need to get ready after a sweaty workout as well as vanity mirrors lockers. Reasonably priced for the amount of equipment they have, bathroom space and sauna. They also have a smoothie bar with different proteins and add ins.

I have visited a few gyms in new braunfels, and they all feel crammed and ego filled. American is the place to be, 5 stars isn’t enough!!! the only thing I would ask for it to be different is the saunas. You can tell they’ve been around for awhile and need replacement/fixing!

I’ve been going here for 2 months and the only complaint I have is that the red headed girl in the front always gives me dirty looks but is friendly with everyone else. I don’t know why she has an issue with me, but it makes it a way less friendly and welcoming environment. I usually don’t write reviews but I really dislike how uncomfortable she makes it to come to the gym.
