Cosmic Training Center Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Fantastic experience: Took my kids to train here over the holiday break and the level of professionalism but also welcoming atmosphere just blew my mind. The ratio for kids to coaches was really good. They did exercises, were shown demonstrations, then they were given time time to spar. I wish we live closer to this gym to come on a regular basis, but will definitely want to be back in the summer. Thank you Professor Joseph and all the coaches!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I were looking for somewhere to drop in and train while we were in the area, and we're really glad we choose Cosmic. We were made very welcome from the get go, the teaching was exceptional, and it was followed by good, hard (but friendly) rolls. Joseph made sure we had a great time, and went out of his way to help us drilling (even though he had students competing at the weekend). He was kind enough to roll with us, and destroyed us with gentle precision. I had a chat and a laugh with everyone I rolled with, and they all had a great attitude, happy to discuss techniques and what worked and what didn't. We've dropped in to many schools while travelling over the years and Cosmic is amongst the best experiences we've had. Highly recommended to anyone in the area looking for a community and a hard workout. One more thing: their sprung mat is exceptional and I'd love to do some serious stand up on it sometime. Just the right combination of firmness and bounce, and much better than most of the gyms we're used to in the UK (even most Judo dojos!). Their facilities are excellent and whoever spent time putting it together did a great job.

Fantastic experience: I love the atmosphere here! Coach Joseph is a great teacher. He is patient with those who are new to Jiu Jitsu, and if you are experienced then he definitely helps you to become a better Jiu Jitsu practitioner than you were before. The atmosphere here is very positive and all the students are supportive and encouraging. If you don't know how to do the moves, the other students will help to teach you. Joseph also holds a Cross fit gym within the academy that is run by Victor. Victor is just as nice and encouraging as Joseph and will push you just as so that you'll meet your goal. This is a great school, with great people!

Fantastic experience: Coach Joseph Lee is an excellent instructor. He is very patient in his instruction and goes over lessons step by step to make sure all his students understand the subtle details of the techniques. The atmosphere of this facility is very open and welcoming. Joseph as well as all the students are very friendly and willing to help each other improve. I highly recommend trying out some classes. In addition to learning an effective self-defense art, the lessons are also a great workout.

Fantastic experience: It is difficult to find an honest place to train brazilian jiu-jitsu these days. Most bjj schools now will not give their monthly fee on the phone. Instead they tell to come and meet with one of their salesmans or counselors. And some of the schools have different prices depending on your level of skill. They will sell you a beginner's package but they will raise their prices if you become more advanced to the intermediate or advanced classes. This is not so at Cosmic Training Center. The head instructor and owner Joseph Lee is up front providing a monthly fee for a few times a week or unlimited classes. He also doesn't charge more if you go to the advanced classes. Joseph also provides a very safe and fun atmosphere for training. He stresses to his students regularly that they are there to help each other to improve. The instruction here is top notch. Joseph is a brown belt from he lineage of Shawn William who is a black belt under the Renzo Gracie. Joseph is extremely knowlegeable in both the sport and self defense aspect of BJJ. He is also an currently an active competitor in the BJJ competition and he is great example to his students. He does his best to support his students if they are interesting in competing in sport BJJ.

Fantastic experience: I signed up in 2013, but due to health issues, I had to stop. Fast forward a year later, I'm back, but I needed to modify the way I train and Joseph and the other students have been really supportive. This is definitely a family atmosphere and people roll light to competitive. You set the pace. Submissions aren't cranked and they definitely watch out for your well being. This place is beginner friendly, but it's also good for the more seasoned grapplers too because Joseph is well versed in the modern sport bjj as well as takedowns and self defense. It's a very open environment. The mats are cleaned daily. There are separate changing rooms for men and women. There is also a crossfit gym. There is parking in the back and street parking. You shouldn't have to walk more than a block or two, but I'm usually able to park right within a block of the studio. If you're thinking about training bjj, come on by and give us a try. If you see a guy rolling with a Darth Vader like helmet, that's me. Don't worry, I won't use the force when rolling.

Fantastic experience: This is an excellent training facility for all levels. There is plenty of instruction for the beginner in a safe and none intimidating environment. However, there are many advanced BJJ practitioners, who well help those with more advanced skills grow in their sport. Coach Joseph has created a respectful, serious but fun environment. I love it. The schedule is flexible enough to accommodate the busiest of schedules at a very reasonable price for your investment. Stop thinking about! Come and join our community, we would love to have you.

Fantastic experience: This is my first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school. I was nervous since it is my first time learning a new art. I enrolled in Oct 2013. The experience has been awesome. Coach Joseph is a great teacher. Very patient, friendly and knowledgeable. He creates an environment that is safe, fun and open. The students are friendly and helpful, a testament to what Coach Joseph has created. I consider everyone here family. This school is awesome!!!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Since the move in 2020, the facilities are even better - larger mat space, separate and spacious changing rooms, bathrooms, and everything is new and cleaned regularly. The Sunday open mat is, as my coach called it, “Disneyland for black belts.” Coach Joseph makes an intentional effort to create a safe and welcoming culture, especially for women and children. I’ve referred my friends here several times.

Fantastic experience: My brother and I have been coming to train at Cosmic for about 5 months and I could not be happier. Joseph's passion and energy for the sport is inspiring, he is what makes this an outstanding place to train. There has been a constant striving to add seminars (Lucas Pinheiro and others) and classes while keeping them at a very high quality including wrestling and judo. I wanted to add that I am a complete newcomer to bjj and was worried of injuring myself before coming to Cosmic. Five months later, I feel that I am at a place where I can train intensely and still be safe. My confidence and overall health have dramatically improved inside and outside of training. I feel blessed to have found this school. Lastly, my peers at Cosmic were welcoming from the first day. Everyone was friendly and quick to include/teach me new techniques. Anyone who is intimidated by starting bjj does not need feel that way at Cosmic. I wish I would have jumped in earlier!

Fantastic experience: I signed up my 14 year old daughter for the self defense jiu-jitsu classes and they are really great! The instructors are very skilled and knowledgeable, they're also really nice which is a winning combination!! It's been a few months now, still enjoying it and she's learned a lot. Joseph, the owner is also very sweet and accommodating. Great studio, clean and spacious. Highly recommended!

The classes cover a variety of things, from the very new and modern to the very technical and even to the important basics. Coach Joseph is very knowledgeable and will help you to train your best. The people there are really friendly. Coach Joseph has a wealth of knowledge. He stays up-to-date with modern moves so you always know what’s working. He is also there to support those who compete and attend tournaments. This is a great place to train. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Without a doubt the most welcoming school I've ever been to. Joe and his students have a phenomenal reputation with being the 626's largest jiu jitsu school to currently train at. Not to mention their Sunday Open Mats are probably the most popular in the 626. If you have kids or just want to train yourself. Highly recommended. Great for sport and art. Be ready to work, these guys don't play!

Fantastic experience: Im a little biased since I started training here. Joseph is the most genuine man. He poured his savings and opened this gym. His blood sweat and tears are surely in the foundation. So please respect his work and what he’s trying to do. The environment is very relaxed but take your training seriously. Or if you don’t want to, please tell him. Open communication is so important for a healthy relationship. He does what he loves and he loves what he does.
