Dundee Township Park District - Randall Oaks Recreation Center: Opinions

Negative experience: One of the worst Rec Centers I’ve ever been too. No wonder the only people that go to play basketball here are little kids. They literally seen me with my speaker when I was registering to hoop which cost $10 and no one had said anything to me about it. One of the managers came over to me to tell me when I was registering about no dunking, hanging on the hoop/nets which I wasn’t planning on to at all. I told them I wasn’t going to too… I’ll respect their gym. However I hoop for about 15-30 mins playing my music on my speaker just for the manager to walk on the track above the court to tell me “no boombox”. I guarantee if I was playing country music instead of rap it would’ve been no issue. Never coming back to this gym again with their prejudice management.
Fantastic experience: The fitness center is clean and the staff are friendly. I am able to use the machines I need without it feeling over crowded. I really like the indoor walking/running track too.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I recently join the Randall Oaks fitness center and could not be happier. The vibe fits our lifestyle, it has all the equipment our bodies need and we are willing to use, it's open when we want to go and the employees are very friendly, especially Dana on the weekend.
Fantastic experience: The fitness center at Randall Oaks has been my workout spot for several years. They have ample space and equipment, their hours fit my schedule, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: The facility is clean. The staff is friendly and there are are variety of machines and classes.
Fantastic experience: Nice facility and friendly staff. Exercise equipment is very clean. Group exercise classes are second to none!!
Fantastic experience: Randall Oaks Recreation Center is truly an outstanding facility! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the warm and friendly staff, especially the ladies at the front desk who are always so welcoming and cheerful. It really sets the tone for the whole experience. The workout equipment is top-notch—clean, modern, and well-maintained, providing everything you need for a great workout. Whether you're lifting weights or doing cardio, there's something for everyone. What really stands out is the sense of community here. It feels like a family, where everyone supports and cares for one another. The staff and members alike are always ready with a smile or a word of encouragement. Randall Oaks isn’t just a gym; it’s a place where you feel like you belong. Highly recommend!
Negative experience: Just left the Randall Oaks Recreation Center very disappointed today. I've been going to the Randall Oaks Recreation Center for the last 2.5 years and have had nothing but pleasant experiences, but today was a different story. I was in today to play some basketball, and everything was going fine. Then it looks as if they were setting up for some volleyball games, but we were not told to get off the court yet, so we continued playing. Then, an older staff member who was setting up the volleyball net says, "Thank you guys," and that's it. We continued playing thinking he was just saying that as a way to let us know that it's almost time to finish up, so we try to hurry our game up. Then he says, "You guys are done. Do you not know what thank you means? Thank you means get off the court" in an extremely rude tone as if we were stupid. He probably thought we were all hard headed kids because I was playing will some younger people, but as someone almost 30 years old, I found the way in which he spoke to be extremely rude, especially to paying customers. I would never speak to another adult like that, and I wouldn't speak to any children or teenagers like that either. It was disrespectful. If he wanted us off the court at that exact moment, the right thing to say would've been, "Hey guys, the courts are reserved for volleyball now. Can you please clear the courts?" Not "thank you guys, " which could mean anything, I guess. I definitely wouldn't translate "thank you" as "get off the courts." I wish I would have got his name because I hope someone speaks to him about the way he talks to people. He's an older gentleman, balding in the middle with some gray hair, maybe around 5'8" tall. This was on Monday, April 1st, 2024, around approximately 6:45pm. Either way, this experience left an extremely sour taste in my mouth, when otherwise I've had nothing but good experiences. It's the bad experiences that you will remember most, though.
Negative experience: This facility doesn't deliver on their words "...dedicated to enhancing the quality of life through exceptional parks, facilities, and community-driven programming.". They allow bullies to stay on the Women's Volleyball league and A-level competitive players to play against less-experienced players (B/BB, C, D-levels) in 1 co-rec league. It causes alot of court/game problems regarding positions and cohesiveness to play together safely. I was on the Winter/January 2024 VB league and experienced negative incidents from female players. As a long-standing BB/B level VB player, I bring my positive attitude in playing with teams and mates but many players don't share the same standards. I was born legally 65% deaf and my disability often confuses people since I can't engage in normal conversation, often mistakenly read as being anti-social. Everyone in leagues I play on are alerted about my hearing disability. 1/29/2024: teammate Donna (same team Spike-N-Spice, captain Brandy Valentine) cowardly pushed/jabbed my back from behind during a game. I was caught off-guard considering she and I have never had problems, but I sensed anomisity from her the beginning. No avail as to why. Recollecting myself, I ignored her cowardly aggresssiveness and continued playing with proper sportmanship. She never explained to me why she pushed me nor did I ask her and I couldn't trust her anymore. Captain Brandy chose to not act upon this assault, and I took myself off the team. I emailed Dundee Township managment providing full incident details. Tammy Greco, Superintendent of Rec, contacted me back only saying general words of "Thank you for sharing your feelings, it's been addressed." There were no resolutions given to me as to the outcome of Donna's bad behavior. This incident wasn't based on "feelings", it was based on a physical assault per videotapes. Since the township choose to not act, I don't feel safe to continue coming here, assured that behavior like this won't be allowed.
Fantastic experience: Clean facility. Friendly staff. Love everything about this place.
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym experience and great people who work there they are so nice
Fantastic experience: The fitness center at Randall Oaks is great - plenty of room and a great selection of equipment, for both cardio and weight training The recently added cardio machines allow for individual video viewing, which is a nice feature. The locker room is somewhat limited, but that really is not an issue most of the time.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out. Love the group fitness classes and the exercise room (with the equipment). Need a bigger room for the classes because its getting crowded.
Fantastic experience: Great Facility. There is a wide variety of fitness classed offered each day throughout day. Awesome instructors. Very friendly staff. I have made new friends. I use center almost every day. Nice clean facility.
Fantastic experience: The fitness center at Randall Oaks has convenient early hours and plenty of equipment for both weight training and cardio workouts. The staff that works the desk are friendly and helpful. With the Renew Active program membership is a can’t miss opportunity. It's a great place to workout!
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout when you just want to get to business. The facility is always so clean and easy to get to. The BEST part is the staff. Everyone is so genuine and kind. I’ve been a member for nearly 4yrs and plan to renew again. For you parents worried about the childcare. My now 5yr old son as been going to the Kidzone since he was 16 months old and majority of the staff has been the same. These women are truly caring. I can only speak of the AM staff on the weekdays for both the Kidzone and Fitness Center. One criticism: Need more machines. There has been a clear increase in attendance over the years making it a challenge to sometimes get to all the machines needed for my workout. I also understand space is at a premium there.
Thank you Rachana for your feedback. We appreciate you letting us know how we can improve.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member for 5 years. The fitness center is kept clean and neat, the staff is very friendly, and there are many different group classes to choose from during the day. Do join!
Fantastic experience: This place is awesome. Plenty of machines, weights and a walking track. Very clean and a great staff.
Fantastic experience: Clean place, most of the staff is friendly. They have an indoor track and outdoor gravel track, which is pretty awesome. Free towels, sanitizer wipes, and plenty of cardio machines.
Positive experience: Convenient location for people on the West Side of the Fox. Wish the facility were open later on a weekend.
Thank you for your feedback. We will take your suggestion into consideration.
Fantastic experience: Very clean with a great, friendly staff too. They have an indoor track as well as outdoor paths for walking and running. Inside they have a huge workout area with plenty of different machines, and it's never too busy which I think is a huge plus. Only downside is, theres isn't a pool. Otherwise, great place to go for a workout!
Glad you enjoyed your visit, Bill. Yes, it's true that our Randall Oaks campus doesn't offer an indoor pool. However, we do have one at our east side location inside the Rakow Center.

Positive experience: If you live in the area this is a good value fir a membership. Nice indoor track
Positive experience: Great place to workout I just wish the pool and hot tube was at the same location
Positive experience: Nice place with a small library branch. Not exactly the most quiet as it seems to be popular as a grandparents day care center each time I've been there.
Fantastic experience: I really love all the workers there they are really fun and nice to talk to and they are always smiling all the time which makes the rec. Center a fun place to workout. The people that have a membership are so nice and loving they are so nice to talk to and give me nice compliments which makes me happy I think this rec. Center is better than Lifetime especially with the employees.

Fantastic experience: Nice track. Gets busy first thing in the morning. Has a small library in the basement.
Fantastic experience: Here for Boys and Girls club flag football very organized
Fantastic experience: Free track is nice.. small but hey, free is free.
Fantastic experience: Great facility and people.
Fantastic experience: New, clean, neat
Fantastic experience: Great classes and weight room
Fantastic experience: Nice gym.
Fantastic experience: The workout facility has equipment for lifters and treadmills and cyclists which face out towards randall road with floor to ceiling windows to let natural lighting in with several flat screen tvs with games on ESPN. The gym on the bottom floor is fantastic offering 2 full size basketball courts with a divider curtain to separate the two. Guests using the track on the main level can see what's happening on the courts while they are walking or runnning which i think is a brilliant setup.
Fantastic experience: We use the library all the time.
Fantastic experience: Very clean. Very nice employees. Nice free indoor walking/running track.
Positive experience: Clean and friendly
Positive experience: Nice facility but no pool or hot tub.
Fantastic experience: Free track is nice.. small but hey, free is free.
Negative experience: Wouldn't let me park my Bike by the front desk while I worked out
Positive experience: Many options available. You can walk the track and not be a resident or a member.
Positive experience: Nice walking track free for public use.
Positive experience: As much as I do love this gym, It's a little frustrating that they're open for such short hours in the weekends. Not everyone can make it to the gym by 5:00 pm on a Saturday or on a Sunday. If it weren't for the hours, I would give them a 5/5. The staff members are extremely nice, and I've never had a bad experience.
Fantastic experience: I love this gym!
Fantastic experience: Just love it
Fantastic experience: Cheaper then other gyms, plus they have motivated trainers to push you all the way
Fantastic experience: Clean gym and not that busy!
