Del Norte Sports and Wellness: Opinions

Negative experience: After being a member at this gym for 5 years I had the worst customer service interaction since I’ve been a member. The manager , he said Tim was his name was so incredibly rude to me and did the opposite of help me with my problem (just trying to update my bank account). After doing as little as possible he told me that I was a “Midtown” member and that I had to call them ( never been to that location in my life) he shortly just hung up on me. Would love to talk about this with someone higher than him.
Negative experience: Not worth it anymore for the high price that keeps going up. They used COVID as an excuse to stop being open 24 hours most of the week. COVID has been over, but the hours still aren’t back to normal. They’re clearly cutting costs while giving customers less for their money. All the furniture inside the gym, like the sofas and couches, is old cheap junk. The cushions sink in when you sit down, with no support at all. They won’t replace any of it because it’s all about money and profit, while the customer gets nothing in return. They also took away the towels. Now you have to ask for one, another thing they did during COVID that they never brought back. Most of the machines are old and outdated, which is ridiculous considering the price of this gym. The front desk staff are hit or miss, usually a miss. They don’t even greet you or say a word. That’s fine, but if that’s the case, just leave the scanner on the counter so I can check myself in.
Negative experience: The gym is fine. It's clean. Machines are often out of order and can take a while to be repaired. Pretty pricey for what you get, but fine enough. I went in last month to cancel my membership and the general manager was very helpful and processed it for me. He told me to call if I was billed again the next month since it was processed so close to the cutoff. I was billed again so I called the front desk. I was very polite thinking I'd be met with the same respect I received from the general manager but was very wrong. I spoke with a Manager named Micayla Vargas who was incredibly rude for no reason. She would not help me resolve the problem, didn't try to understand, and hung up up on me by saying "buh-bye". I called back to get her name and she rudely answered the phone saying, "are you a member?". Anyway, my experience at the gym was fine, but it all was turned around by the treatment of this terrible manager, who told me that my only option was to pay for an extra month, because "the system said so." Hire better people.
Negative experience: You pay 120 dollars a month but they can’t even afford to buy a new basketball for members to use they keep a cabinet full of balks tgat are all flat and can’t even hold air not to mention they are tge cheapest rubber balks you find at a toy store they have 6 balls tgat are older than me
Negative experience: Not a place for serious gym goers. This gym presents to be a place for everyone to socialize, hog the machines and not really work out. If I’m paying close to $200 dollars for a gym I expect them to have better equipment, more rules on people cleaning their equipment after use, and not always having the lanes reserved and no one using them. Most of their equipment is for arms and cardio. The amount of children who are allowed to mess around in the gym is insane. Lastly I’m tired of choking on cheap perfume and cologne and rancid BO while I’m trying to workout. NOT WORTH IT.
Negative experience: I’ve never seen more things out of order or broken. The area and the back is filthy. Right now there’s exercise equipment out of order the hot tubs out of order. The dryer for trunks is out of order really disappointing for the money we pay.
Negative experience: Paying over $100 a month for a membership at Del Norte SW a high price to pay when the amenities aren’t maintained -the adult hot tub breaks down frequently and then it takes days to weeks for it to be repaired- the boards in dry sauna are old /rotten /dirty. Not enough shower chairs for all of the women showers. Which could be dangerous for people with disabilities.. management isn’t helpful or responsive. Wellbridge knows there’s no other competitors in ABQ so you either take it or leave too bad!
Negative experience: For $100 a month membership, this place used to be worth the money prior to Covid but now they have very limited hours and members can’t even use the amenities we pay for. Steam room is frequently closed an hour before the gym closes for cleaning, no matter if you’re sitting in there, they will turn it off. I called to speak with general manager, Tim about it and was told he was working out… this was in the middle of the business day. The person who answered the phone was argumentative and stated they are allowed to do that as long as they post a sign the steam room will be closed. Not sure why we are paying full price for amenities we can’t even use. Manager Hannah sends in front desk staff to harass you when you’re trying to relax in the steam room. Very uncomfortable to have someone holding open the door when you’re sitting there in a towel. The front desk girls will also open the shower curtains when you’re showering if it’s getting closer to closing time. The towels are disgusting and gray, as well. With the membership being so pricey, SW needs to invest in some new towels for members to use.
Fantastic experience: Great workout
This is great to see Keith!
Fantastic experience: The people are wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The fascility is huge so you almost always get on the machine or pick up the weight you want. I love the extra amenities like the steam room, dry sauna, pool, and hot tub. But again- it’s mostly the people.
Fantastic experience: The classes at DNSW are fantastic! The instructors are amazing. I have truly enjoyed yoga with Yael and pilates with Sarah!
Fantastic experience: My husband and I just rejoined your club this last week and we must say what a difference in the overall attitude towards its clients! Very helpful and friendly-not so money hungry or snooty! We were surprised and happy
Thank you, Teresa! We pride ourselves on giving our members the best experience we can. Enjoy your workouts!
Fantastic experience: Facilities Manager, Mike, is amazing! The pools are sparkling, the facility is clean (George is a key player to the cleanliness and community), and Dave at the front desk is probably the coolest guys you’ll ever meet.
Thank you, Micayla! We love our teammates and are thrilled to see you love them too! We pride ourselves on providing the best experience we can. Summers at Sports & Wellness is the place to be! Our outdoor pools are perfect for the family.
Fantastic experience: they are such amazing staff wonderful experiences never unhappy coming here definetly worth every penny
This is awesome to see, Edgerin! Thank you! Our team members are top notch and we love you feel good in your fitness routine!
Fantastic experience: I love spending my days here. I couldn’t ask for a better community!
Fantastic experience: I just have to give a big shout out review to the best water aerobics instructor out there-Mrs. Cara Gregory! She always works hard to give you the best planned workout! Thank you Cara! Thank you too to Mr. Mike, the maintenance man, as he is always helpful and ensures things are working right with the pool and hot tub!
Fantastic experience: Sports and Wellness is a showcase of cleanliness, variety and fun. The machine that I need to use is always available. The atmosphere is engaging for group settings, yet private for solo work outs. Overall, I’m very comfortable with my membership and it is worth all of the amenities that come along with it. I also want to point out that I appreciate the staff because they are always welcoming & friendly to my family and I.
Positive experience: Great club however i prefer gyms not to have the news on it kind of defeats the purpose of self care.
Fantastic experience: The Jacuzzi and basketball courts are my favorite! The room with the turf has such a nice set up, I enjoy starting my workouts there! Thank you staff! Much appreciated!
Fantastic experience: I work out here almost every morning and absolutely love the spaciousness of the club. Mike, the facility manager, does a fantastic job keeping the pool in pristine condition, and it's never overcrowded or too busy. George (Housekeeping) and Dave (Front Desk) are always on top of everything, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. I truly couldn't imagine working out anywhere else—this community is amazing.
Fantastic experience: Love getting my work outs done here. Lots of great equipment and a great vibe! Love having basketball courts available for use!
Fantastic experience: I work as a studio fitness structure and I love it. Best place to work and play!
Fantastic experience: Not sure what people's problems are with the negative reviews. Nothing is perfect but the facilities are world class and I've always been treated well by the staff. You won't find another club in Albuquerque that offers access to as many locations and facilities. I'm quite critical of any establishment I review and won't leave five stars if I'm not genuinely impressed. As long as I live in Albuquerque, I'll always have a membership here and recommend one to everyone I know.
Negative experience: Seemed like it’d be a nice gym (especially with the pricy membership) but after three months I was more than ready to go back to defined! Terrible gym vibes, everyone had horrendous gym etiquette, and on top of all that the gym was constantly overrun with high schoolers with McDonald’s bags. Basically these parents treat it as a daycare. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Negative experience: Very arrogant people at the front desk, rude and they act like we don't deserve to member in that location.
Negative experience: Overall, Del Norte is a good place to work-out. The one major shortcoming is a lack of maintenance. When equipment breaks, there is zero motivation to make repairs. The massage table motor failed several years ago. The fix, just remove the motor and not replace it. When weight machine fails, they will be out of commission for months. TV monitors that burn out, just ignore it. I have asked a dozen times over the last year to fix this very inexpensive problem. Del Norte is not cheap. It’s not too much to ask to repair broken equipment in a timely manner.
Negative experience: Horrible upper management, greedy, and poor customer service.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service and beautiful facility
Thank you, Kimberly!
Positive experience: Honestly the rudest front desk ever. Like occasionally I’ll get someone decent but most of the time they act like you’re inconveniencing them by just scanning the thing on your phone, don’t even say hi or anything. Like just have the scanner on the counter if you hate doing it so much, I hate dealing with the attitude
Hello Megan, We greatly appreciate the feedback and would love to use this as a training tool for our next hospitality meeting. We strive for excellence at the hospitality desk as well as throughout our club. If you ever want to give management feedback directly, either positive or negative, feel free so we can coach, train and reinforce immediately. We value your membership and as always, thank you for being part of our community.
Negative experience: One of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had. I signed up for what I believed to be a 3-month membership, only to discover I’ve been charged continuously for the past 8 months. While I take responsibility for not monitoring my account, Sports and Wellness failed to inform me about the auto-renewal policy. To make matters worse, the representative I spoke with was extremely rude and even hung up on me. I do not recommend this business—stay away.
Hello, Charles and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We value every opportunity to clarify and support our members. At Sports & Wellness, we offer two membership options: a 3-month minimum commitment and a 12-month minimum commitment. Both transition to a month-to-month agreement at the end of the initial term. These terms, along with our cancellation requirements, are clearly outlined in the membership agreement, which is reviewed, signed, and initialed at the time of enrollment. If there’s anything we can do to assist or if you’d like to discuss your membership further, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help and ensure you have a positive experience with us.Thank you again for your feedback.
Negative experience: If you're reading this, you'll already notice that this gym (and all of its locations) have terrible reviews. They're not wrong. This gym is appears very nice at first glance, but is practically and functionally comatose. If your goal is actual fitness with a weightlifting focus, you will be better served at another gym chain. Period. Firstly, getting into this gym is its own joke of a process. The whole existence of their sales team seems intended to waste your time. Rather than having a clear-cut pricing model which are communicated upfront, they waste staff resources by playing games with you. Me and my partner may have joined months earlier than we did, but were waiting for special promos that we heard would come. By the time we did finally join, we already had a sour taste. Within a week, we realized we should never have joined in the first place. I believe this gym chain remains open only because of their reputation and the community-held belief that it's the best gym in town—it's not. I will say two positive things before I complain. Having towel service is absolutely amazing, and the locker rooms are really nice and well equipped! You definitely cannot get that at any other gym in town. My primary complaints are that the facility: is lacking some key equipment for a good workout; some machines are placed in awkard locations; the staff are very young and unwelcoming; there is no music; and it is swarmed by immature and rowdy high school boys. Overall, it feels more like an over-equipped community center than a serious gym. There is a shortage of attachments for the cable machines, which means having to search endlessly in 3 rooms for the only available attachment of several types. Despite having a plethora of outdated cable machines (like 2 free-motion cable quad and 2 hamstring machines which no one uses), they lack important pieces of equipment like handles for the barbell landmine or a t-bar row. Additionally, almost all of their equipment is just in weird locations facing walls or obstructing paths of travel. The front desk staff may very well be on work permits because they look and act so young. We are barely greeted when we arrive and almost never acknowledged when we leave. I can confidently say that was not the case at our last gym. More often than not, the children are usually talking with their friends at the desk, or gossiping other staff (someone got fired, I heard!). Speaking of hearing things, this gym is so quiet you can basically hear a pen drop. It does not get you in the mood to workout. The clientele skews somehow both older and much younger, but almost no-one in the young-adult range. There are times where as a near 30-year old man that i feel like one of the oldest people in the weight area, especially after 8 PM. The behavior of the young ones is sometimes just fine, but other times can be annoying. I know that I'm not alone in saying this, because I've witnessed one confrontation between an older gentleman telling a young guy to stop slamming weights—which culminated with staff intervention. I have talked to management personally about my concerns, and even wrote a long email explaining my experience in brief. Crickets. Lastly I'll say that we have friends who similarly are just as dissatisfied about their experience at this gym as we have been. After years of hearing from people left and right how great Sports and Wellness is, I can confidently say from my own experience: It's a huge bummer. I think with changes to their model and equipment (especially layout), this gym could change their focus and be an elite gym. It just doesn't seem like there is any motivation to make any changes whatsoever. Good luck!
Fantastic experience: Love Del Norte Sports and Wellness. Recently joined. Swimming pools are outstanding! Jeremy is awesome. I highly recommend you call, ask for Jeremy, he is terrific Terrific club
Negative experience: I never really write a review about anything, but I feel like this needs to be said. I've been going to this gym for almost three years now, and three different times, Sport and Wellness has charged me $500 each time. At this point, I really think they do this purposely to get a cash grab from people. Also, rather than telling me someone I'm one month behind, they wait five months to tell you that you are behind. At this point, I find it very unprofessional and unethical. I wouldn't expect this from a place like this. At this point, what am I paying for? This is not a cheap place to attend. I expect more out of a place like this. I have no words for a place like this, and I've given Sport and Wellness patience. Not anymore. I will be reporting to the BBB.
Negative experience: The worst gym in new mexico. I canceled my membership in July and they are still billing me in September because they stated they left it available for me. this gym has old machines and closes at the weirdest hours.
Negative experience: I'll start out with the positive as my review is about the management and not the facility. I went to the Del Norte location and the facility was clean and spacious. They have a variety of machines, free weights, and cardio equipment in addition to nice amenities such as the wet sauna, indoor/outdoor pool, and hot tub. I noticed I wasn't going as much and so at the 1-year mark in August, I was going to cancel. Knowing the 1-month advance notice for cancellation, I called the club in July and was told I need to come in person. I was away for work and told them it wasn't feasible, the individual on the phone was courteous and said they could process the cancellation. I thought at the end of the phone call, the process was too easy, and they were very accommodating for my circumstance... Fast forward 2 months (today, 12 September) when I checked my credit card statement and see another charge for September. I call again, and now the manager said they have no record of the request and to call corporate. I call corporate and I'm getting asked who I spoke with, when did I speak with them, etc, etc. I don't know about you all, but usually when you get what you want...ie: cancelling my membership. I don't tend to write down the name of who was assisting. So corporate says they are defaulting to the 1 month advance notification and will have to charge again for next month with the membership now ending in November. As a service member, I'm a firm believer in following through with what you commit to. I hit my 1-year obligation and wanted to end amicably, but the company has other priorities ($$$) instead of customer service.
Negative experience: I was a member at Riverside location, I came to check out the del Norte location, I talked to Lauren in sales who was rude, told me it’s $30, would not even take me around, did not even attempt to even talk to me about prices or talk to me about rejoining. I left pretty upset, horrible customer service. Is this the way this location conducts business?
Fantastic experience: Yeah, this one sassy guy there. He’s the man he’s such a good worker, But it’s too bad He can’t get a raise. And Oliver is too cool.
Fantastic experience: Perfect for hooping and a good lift .. many other options as well
Love it! Thank you, Malcolm!
Fantastic experience: Biggest sports and wellness with the best amenities by far. Also very clean and all of the employees are very nice.
Wonderful! Thank you for the review, Charlie!
Fantastic experience: Place is huge. Great weight area, multi purpose room with sled and weight treadmill. Steam /sauna all you need. Staff was great as well.
Thank you, John! We do have a pretty excellent team and they all work hard for our members and are thrilled you are enjoying the club!
Fantastic experience: Everyone is very nice, and helpful! Tons of amenities.
Negative experience: they make it really hard and expensive to cancel a subscription.
Hello, Jorge! I am sorry to see you had a hard time cancelling your membership. It looks like you just signed your agreement on April 2. You are still within your time frame to 14 day term. We don't have any records of you calling or speaking with your membership representative and provide your notice to take this action. Again, it must be within 14 days of your April 2 sign date. Otherwise, we request a 30 day written notice to cancel. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Great variety of classes, facility well-maintained, excellent instructors
Positive experience: I love the classes! Athletic yoga is fantastic—really any class with Yael.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love sports and wellness Del Norte. I have been going here for 3 years. This club is always clean and staff is always friendly.
Fantastic experience: There pools are very refreshing and clean! And the locker rooms are very nice as well!
Thank you, Emi! The pools are awesome and during the summer time there isn't a better spot to be! Enjoy!
Fantastic experience: Love del Norte location. Awesome pool and gym. My daughter enjoyed their camps when she was younger and now gets the summer membership to work out and swim. We are fans! Highly recommend
Positive experience: I always feel good about going to this club. It's clean and kept up well. I can always find a lane to swim, since there are two pools. The hot tub is almost hot enough! Very nice. I ido not use the gym, because it is overwhelming, and the tv's are set too high to be comfortable on the bikes. I only use the pool at this club. Downside? Kinda expensive.
Fantastic experience: Great health club. The indoor and outdoor pools are always just the right temp and available when i need them. The rest of the facility has everything anyone would need for whatever they are trying to accomplish. The staff is always friendly and helpful!
Fantastic experience: I love how much stuff there is to do here! There is something for EVERYONE! They are all so welcoming too! I tried a new class for the first time and felt like I was supposed to be there the way not only the instructor but the members treated me!
Negative experience: YESTERDAY (12/26/23) I stopped in again today to get some pricing information for my wife & I. An unpleasant young lady from the "Membership Team" addressed me once called out of her office area. As in the past, she attempted to have me sign what they call "a waiver" which I readily declined. I didn't see the need to sign anything or give further information for simply wishing to know what a monthly membership costs. I was told there is a $199 initial administration fee and then it's $161 per month for a month to month membership but the month to month pricing required a 3 month commitment. I truly don't believe this young aggressive lady wanted to do business with me. I said goodbye and exited their fine facility. In all, she's a rude & ugly individual and really not a person I want to spend my hard earned dollars with. TODAY, 8 MONTHS LATER (12/23/23) I had double spine surgery (front & back entry) this past June and in addition to physical therapy I'm directed that I need to put in the work myself also. After a complimentary workout at Chuze on Indian School Rd. NE, I arrive at this location @ 5:20pm to see what the monthly cost would be for my wife & I. Once again a kind gentleman (Phillip) at the front desk greets me. After I inquire about the monthly fees & dues, I'm told I'd have to speak with one of their "Membership Team" associates. I don't have a difficulty with this, I say, "Okay, I'll speak with whomever you'd like" and Phillip tells me they've all left for the day. Hmmm... I ask, "What time do you close?", Phillip tells me "At 8pm sir". Even though it's Saturday (12.23.23), I'm truly puzzled that I cannot speak with anyone about a membership for my wife & I. I leave this establishment at 5:24pm having accomplished absolutely nothing & have no clue what it would cost to join this totally mis-managed fitness facility. I don't know how they stay in business. EIGHT MONTHS AGO Having lived here nearly 40 years & being a previous member, this evening I took my wife (she’s only lived here a year) in to this location so she could see the place & we could discuss becoming a member once again. We were greeted by Aiden, a fine young man wearing a tie, who was most informative & respectful. Aiden instructed us we’d have to wait for a sales associate. The female, I’m assuming Sale Associate, immediately informed us to tour the place we’d have to fill out and sign an accident waiver in case something happened. We agreed to fill out the waiver & the wife & I were given tablets. It wasn’t until shortly after opening up the consent agreement to a rather lengthy disclaimer that we realized the entire process was about gathering more information necessary (Phone #, email address, etc…) for anyone to simply physically preview the facility. At this point, I addressed the young lady & told her I didn’t feel the amount of information they were asking for was a necessity for us to simply tour the place. She stated it was absolutely necessary. I stated okay, we’d see about joining Defined Fitness. At which time we were told have a good evening a few times.
Kelly, We apologize for the experience you had. Though they did their job from a “technical” perspective (we do indeed need a signature to allow access to the facility), they certainly missed the entire point when it comes to customer service and the proper way to treat a guest. We will most certainly be coaching that individual on the proper way to handle that situation. We would hate to have you miss out on the experience of being a Sports & Wellness member again due to the poor judgment of one individual. If you are still interested in considering Sports & Wellness, please contact the General Manager directly. He is aware of the situation and will be expecting your call. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: There are 2 pools, an indoor and an outdoor, basketball courts inside and also outside, 3 levels filled with machines and resistance bands with the main floor full of free weights, treadmills and a few cycling machines. The staff are very friendly and keep a very clean facility as well as the locker room.
awesome! Thank you, Lawrence. Thrilled you are enjoying so many of our amenities!
Negative experience: Tried to pay for a 1 day pass and they wouldn't allow it.
Johnny, You are correct that, as a private club, we do not allow guests. We do, however, allow anyone interested in membership to try it as our guest, no charge and we try to make that as easy as possible. Thank you!
Negative experience: Daughter and I went asked for a day pass, was told they don’t do that, but bc I was there they would. Unfriendly staff Place is dated. Most gyms give 7 day passes idk. Maybe they based the one day pass on what we look like? We didn’t stay and workout just looked around and left.
Hello, Valerie~ Thank you for reaching out. We apologize about your experience with us. However, Sports and Wellness is a private athletic club. First time, in-state visitors are eligible to experience the club first hand by activating a VIP All-Access Pass with an associate on our team. We do this to ensure a 5-Star experience for members. Thank you for your understanding.
Positive experience: Basketball Mon, Tue, Wed, Thus. Evening
Hoops! Nice, Gab117! Keep it up! ️
Fantastic experience: Best people best facilities! Love it!!! Highly recommend!
Awesome! Thank you for the great review, Jennifer!
Negative experience: This gym is the worst gym in the state of New Mexico. I would recommend any other gym!
Hi Matthew, and thanks for reaching out! We always appreciate feedback, but this review is a tough one to glean anything from. It sounds like you may have had a bad experience at Del Norte perhaps? Please reach out to Aaron Lavender, the General Manager of that location. We would appreciate meeting with you to learn more. Since we are repeatedly “Voted the Best of The City” each year, we want to do all we can to not have you feel that way as well! Please give us another shot!
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Albuquerque! Always so clean and friendly staff.
Thank you, Mandy!
Negative experience: If I could give a one start I would. The staff is extremely disrespectful. What kind of a gym doesn’t allow day passes to try out? Really worthless and I’m canceling my membership in behalf of the front desk who turned us away
Corey, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are so sorry for the confusion! Of course we not only allow guests who are interested in trying the facility, we encourage it! That is how we get new members! Though we can’t explain what happened during your visit, we ask that you give us another chance and bring your guest in. Just contact the club and ask for the General manager to set up your visit and we will make sure you and your guest get red carpet treatment. Again, so sorry for the mix up!
Negative experience: Decent swimming pool and sauna and the exercise equipment is okay but is very old. The bathroom is not the cleanest. The worst part is the staff who are EXTREMELY rude, unprofessional and impatient. The manager was especially rude and inconsiderate. They don't seem to take their job seriously.
Hello, Anjali and thank you for reaching out! We have looked high and low into your membership and we are not able to find you as a member with us. However, we are happy to address your concerns if you would like to give our General Manager a call. We strive to be the cleanest and most welcoming of all our guests. It is part of our culture. We apologize for your experience and would love to get some more details from you. Thank you.
Negative experience: Micayla Vargas assistant manager at this club really needs a reality check and to be addressed on her overall attitude towards members and her staff... I've never been spoken to like she spoke to me the other day I will not be returning. Very unhappy with customer service at this club as a manager you should be willing to approach people in a friendly way wanting to fix issues that come up not with any kind of attitude.
Kristen, All too often, as was the case in this situation, we have the unpleasant task of having to share an answer or information with a member that does not support whatever goal they are trying to accomplish. It is important, of course, to deliver that message as professionally as possible and we try our very best to do so. We will use your feedback to learn from and to try even harder to communicate in a more positive way, even when the answer we must provide is not the answer they necessarily want to hear.
Fantastic experience: i love it, i’ve been here for around 4 months now, i used to go to chuze and snap fitness, chuze was always busy regardless what time you go in and i remember having to wait up to 45 minutes for a squat rack to be free and snap was overpriced for their amenities nothing compares to s&w, yes the prices are higher but you get what you pay for, and honestly this is one of the gyms that is worth paying for. staff can come off a bit rude with costumers but at the end of the day i go to the gym to lift not to socialize with them.
Negative experience: The club is always very clean. Most work out equipment is old. I liked to work out in the upstairs area it's more secluded. But most of the machines and spin bikes either squeak or broken or worn out. I canceled, I can go to "planet for 1/3 of the price for working equipment.
Hi Bianca, We are disappointed to hear the Del Norte location didn’t suit your needs. However, we are pleased to hear that you did enjoy the private cardio area. We have many members that enjoy the seclusion that area provides. We have three clubs that have those private areas and we are the only fitness clubs in New Mexico that have this feature. We have a full time staff that maintains all of our equipment and go to great lengths to make sure all equipment is in working order. We've triple checked the area in question and have confirmed all equipment is in working order. If you are willing to reconsider, we would love to have you back. But, most importantly, we are glad you are still staying after it and pursuing your fitness goals.
Positive experience: On their website, the facility looks adequate and they have many class offerings. When calling to find out about membership pricing (which is not listed on their website), the receptionist said he could not help with that and I had to leave a message. Upon receiving a return call, the salesperson said I had to come in for a tour to receive pricing. I told her that I've reviewed the website, their class offerings, and equipment, and just wanted to know the membership cost. She reluctantly said it is $109.00 per month for a 3 month commitment and $99.00 per month for a 12 month commitment. I think that is a totally reasonable price for their services, and told her I would stop by. She said that I could not stop by, that it is by appointment only to join. Heads up this is the process and current pricing (7/14/2023) if you're looking to join.
Julie, Thank you for your feedback. Although we would explain it a bit differently, you have correctly identified a few of the facts as to how to go about acquiring a membership with Sports & Wellness. After 35 years of experience, we have come to realize that in order to understand the value of what we offer, a visit is absolutely essential. Though you said you found our rates reasonable (and we agree) experience has shown that reaction to be incredibly rare when they have not yet seen the club. A health club membership is a commitment. Those that chose to join do so with the intention of going three or more times per week. You will find that we are actually very nice people that are only interested in helping you reach your fitness goals. No tricks, no games, just professional assistance as you proceed on your fitness journey. We don’t bite - promise! So, if you are looking for an experience that far surpasses any other club in town, go ahead and make an appointment. We want to make sure we set aside the time so your trip to the club is not wasted. Though we understand we aren’t the right fit for all (no club is), the members we do have are willing to pay more to get the value that they receive. Best club in town? Well, in the end, that is really up to you.
Negative experience: I used to love this gym with all its amenities and its nice big open area. The pool is also a plus. But lately it’s not been as good. My main issue is the staff that works there can be incredibly rude. They seem to just socialize the entire time and don’t take the job seriously. If I have a question they decide to ignore me and talk to the other co workers instead, and they have me waiting there like I’m some bum. I get dirty looks by many of the staff members here as well, especially that super tall lady. My family pays a membership here to work out, not be harassed. Looking to join a better gym in the near future.
Calvin, Thanks for taking the time out to provide us with your feedback. We are disappointed to hear about the experiences that you have had at our club recently. Customer service is our top priority and we want to make sure we are doing all we can to make appropriate changes when we are missing the mark. We will not rest until all members feel our service is top notch. We were hoping we could meet with you personally to discuss the situation in more detail. Please contact the General Manager, Aaron Lavender, directly at the club to set up a time that works for you. Thanks again for reaching out.
Positive experience: It's a nice sized gym. The pool is overall really nice. The reason for the four stars is that there is a ton of outdated and beat up treadmills, and they removed creature comforts like towels in the locker room.
Hi Dustin, Thank you for your kind words. In terms of the treadmills, please let us know if you find any machine that is not 100% fully operational. We pride ourselves in not having “out of order” signs that are so common in most health clubs. Fortunately, we still offer towels to all members at the desk at all clubs. Removing them from the locker rooms has reduced the loss of towels by 60%. Thanks again for taking the time to reach out!
Negative experience: I went in there thinking i was paying for a 1year membership but found out later it was a contract. Really dirty not the gym but the sale representatives. Everytime i want to work out its always crowded. Its a nice gym but not worth 106 dollars a month and that was them giving me a deal. At least the other gyms i went to were straight up about their deals. I feel scammed. They steal from people. Don't believe or trust them.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love Del Norte. Everyone from the sales staff to trainers have been incredibly accommodating and helpful. I am reading lots of bad reviews about "nickel and diming" that has not been my experience at all. As a matter of fact, they let you charge your training sessions so you can start up and pay later. I have fallen behind on payments a few times and they even waived my late fees each time that has happened. My daughters, (who are under the age of 6) are also members. Everyone greets them politely and knows them by name every time we come in. They offer a toddler class called "Mighty Mites" and it is awesome! If I could give them 10 stars I would. My only complaint is that I cant be there more often. I highly reccommend this gym and if you had a bad experience... Im sorry!
Fantastic experience: We've been members for over 15 years and it's a wonderful resource. It has everything from well-equipped weight and cardio rooms to great instructors, various classes, including trx, combat, spin, pump, yoga, dance, muscle, pilates, and excellent Les Mills offerings, to indoor and outdoor pools, to basketball, with roomy dressing rooms, towels provided, and excellent child care. All S&W locations around town are included, with racquet sports offered in addition to all the above. It's not inexpensive, but if you like variety, they have it. It's very family friendly.
Fantastic experience: Love it! High price doesn't matter, I love the community I love the people and the employees!
Fantastic experience: Nice gym, lots of AC, and not too packed
Fantastic experience: I'm taking BodyCombat class every Saturday 8:30 am, it is great, I love it!
YEA! Great work, Andrey! Happy you are enjoying the club.
Positive experience: Hours are the least convenient for me.
Mayra~ Thank you for reaching out. Our hours are always under review. We are working hard to expand and add more and will be able to do so, hopefully soon. Thank you.
Negative experience: I signed up for a summer only membership. Then a friend alerted me that even though it was sold to me as a “summer membership” that I still needed to cancel it. I called to cancel my membership in August 2022. They told me I cannot cancel over the phone, that I needed to come in person. I then went to the gym in person to cancel that same day. When I arrived, Rebecca was at the front desk and told me that all the managers were in a meeting and that I could not cancel because no one was available. She left them my name and number to call me. Mikayla later called me that day and explained that for my inconvenience of coming in to cancel and no one being available, she would offer me to only pay for myself for September 2022 and not for the entire family. Today I was billed September 2022 for the entire family again ($189). I would like Makayla’s word to mean something (even thought it’s “not in the notes” in your system). When you are offered the chance to just sign up for the summer, I took you at your word. I trusted what was being told to me. At no point did anyone tell me that my membership didn’t automatically end at the end of august OR that you needed 30 days notice to cancel. Such a scam. They must be desperate for money.
Hello, Tracy~ Thank you for taking the time to speak with us to resolve the matter. We hope we will see you again in the clubs in the future!
Fantastic experience: I love this gym. It is ENORMOUS and clean and not crowded. So many amenities too! If I lived in ABQ, I would be a full-time member. It is better than any of the gyms in NYC. I was a member in high school in the early 2000s and I'm so glad I can still work out there and swim when I'm back in town now. Great GREAT gym.
Fantastic experience: Just love this club! Particularly, the Del Norte location. They have a terrific indoor pool, great outdoor pool, Hot tub, Sauna and a steam room in each locker room. Always clean and tidy. Generally, lanes are easy to come by but there is the option now of booking a lane through their app.
Thank you, Elizabeth! We love hearing from our members about the club. We strive to be the best in Albuquerque and are pleased to see we are meeting your expectations. We appreciate the review!

Negative experience: I feel like my interview went good I kept my interview honest and all I didn’t get the job I’m pregnant and feel judged based on this which is illegal
Samantha, After speaking with the hiring manager, we understand that your availability did not match up with the limited available shifts. You are welcome to reach out to our Human Resources department at [email protected] if you wish to discuss further. Thank you.
Negative experience: So I joined this place with my son …..management got so Rude with us a couple of weeks into our membership , to the point of making my son Uncomfortable at the del Norte sports and wellness center WE Both did not want to return ….sales guy told us we could get swim passes for his brothers we got chewed out in front of other members by there assistant manager she was so mad for some reason !……declining those passes …..when we wanted to use them …I was so shocked by her attitude I contacted her manager he was Useless! supported her behavior then his manager same situation but worse …Which basically they told me that they don’t feel like making kids uncomfortable and embarrassing me in front other members .. Or not keeping there word ….is a reason to cancel membership!!. !!!!!…..I wish I woulda read the reviews before sign up !… so now they are trying to collect money from me still after I told them I wouldn’t pay due to the above circumstances. … … 157.00 a month no cancellation even when they are in the wrong …
Negative experience: Summer camp was a dud and follow-on from management was even worse. My son’s camp counselor became physical with my 7 year old and he refused to go back, even after several attempts to make things better for him. They lost his trust and any sort of comfort while attending, so we dis-enrolled both he and his sister. So, buyer beware, the camp will put their bottom line ahead of the well-being of their campers and nickel and dime you to leave…all while trying to paint us, the parents the as those who should bare the onus for the outcome of their counselors actions and resulting departure.
Fantastic experience: It’s a great club. I’m fat and out of shape. I go sit in the hot tub and then swim a few laps. The place is super clean. They provide deodorant and soap! Be careful though because the free hairspray looks exactly like the deodorant. Positive note here is that my armpit hair stayed put. Seriously though, a great club.
Eeeek! Note made! Thank you Ron, for the great review!
Fantastic experience: Very professional staff and super clean gym overall!
Thanks, Evan! Appreciate your feedback!
