Albany's Indoor Rockgym

Fantastic experience: Just got back from Albany Indoor Rocky gym. This was my first experience in over a decade of doing any sort of rock climbing. My husband is very into this and goes 2 times a month at least to varying places. I am not a small person, rather, on the larger side. While I am fairly active, going to these sorts of places still makes me feel a bit insecure. From the moment we walked into the door I instantly felt a sigh of relief. What I thought would be a big embarrassment for me ended up being an extremely friendly staff. The gentleman working at the counter was extremely welcoming, and very friendly. (Sorry for not getting his name) The whole staff helped us get set up, made sure we were okay to go, and sent us on our way. The place has a cool and laid back atmosphere, packed with friendly, encouraging people. The same guy who greeted us kept checking back in, starting conversation, and offering me tips and advice. He was awesome! I felt nothing but welcomed, and cannot wait to go back again. I wanted to try the caves, but in order to do so you have to fit through a 21'' triangular box. I was apprehensive about doing this, but perhaps next time. It was inexpensive, and a good workout.

Fantastic experience: The best experience and the best people! Parents, kids and thrillseekers of all ages will have a blast here. My girlfriend and I happened to be in Albany visiting from Boston, and we just happened to find this place, and we were not disappointed! Hours of fun for anyone, any age is just the beginning. From the moment we arrived the staff was wicked nice and helpful. As college students we only wound up paying $16 each for gear rental and access to all of the walls as well as "the cave" There are tons of walls for climbers of every experience level and difficulty, but what really makes Albany Indoor Rock Gym stand out is The Cave: a pitch black series of tunnels INSIDE THE WALLS. Adventurers must squeeze themselves through to find hidden surprises along the way! It was scary, challenging and unbelievably fun. By the end of the night, I had lost my wallet in the cave, despite swearing that I hadn't brought it in there. I assumed it had been swindled by another customer while I was in the cave. Regardless, after I left, the staff still went in there to find it for me. They're even mailing it back to me in Boston! I cannot say enough good things about this place. This is THE place to go if you're looking for recreational fun in the Albany-Colonie area! Do yourself a favor and go!

Fantastic experience: This climbing gym is one of a kind with toprope, bouldering, and even some caving! Employees are easy to talk to and know their stuff. Highly recommended for climbers of all levels!

Matt was so genuine and kind and gave me helpful tips so I wouldn’t overexert myself they are the only climbing gym to have the Cave… they spent 5 years building it! a great way to work through your claustrophobia they have a simple shower and offer rentals. will be back whenever i’m in town

Fantastic experience: The prices are great all of the employees are super helpful they thought me how to rock climb witch was amazing. Me and my family had such a great time we'll will definitely be coming back. The rock climbing was great but the cave was so much better it took me a little while to find the hidden zip line but there is no water fountain but that`s ok the place is amazing i would definitely recommend coming here even if u dont know how to rock climb the employees will teach u how to do it. I really loved this experience.

Fantastic experience: I started coming here when I was a kid in the 90s, now I get to bring my now 11 year old. They are always making little adjustments and improvements. Already you can always ask a staff member for assistance or hints to get to a particular spot in the caves.

Fantastic experience: Brought my 5yo to Albany Indoor Rock Gym and it was an excellent experience! The team was knowledgeable and explained processes very patiently to my 5yo. The caves are for the brave. Made it through the caves about ten feet and then used bribes of the fruit popsicles they sell to get out.

Fantastic experience: I took a beginner's rock climbing class with Matt last week and had a blast! He's a great teacher and very enthusiastic, and I would highly recommend him and the studio to anyone. Carrie was also great to work with in terms of booking the class.

Fantastic experience: This was my third or fourth time in a climbing gym. The last time was over a year ago, so I definitely needed a refresher on how to use the belay system. Matt did an excellent job instructing us on it. Not only that but he gave us simplistic and common sense ways to approach climbing and use climbing techniques. If you are new to climbing, you can't go wrong with this gym. The atmosphere is just so welcoming. And even if you're a veteran of climbing, this gym has so much to offer for such a reasonable price.

Fantastic experience: I took my kids there a few days ago (4 kids ranging from ages 7-14 and being the only parent there) , first rock climbing experience. We got there not really knowing what to do, or what to expect. But someone named Christian was there and he was awesome! He walked us through everything step by step, with an extreme amount of patience, friendly helpful attitude, and a good sense of humor. He even came over and started to encourage my youngest daughter who was scared to climb higher. We will absolutely be back to this place! Between the caves (which my kids are determined to find the hidden zip line next time) or just simply the climbs, it was an amazing time and very well priced! Thanks Christian!

Fantastic experience: I had an awesome time rock climbing with my friends for the first time in years, and it was all thanks to Matt! He was so helpful and patient, telling us everything we needed to know to have a safe and fun experience. The caves were incredible too, and Matt worked with everyone to make sure they had a great time, no matter their individual level. I can't wait to go back!

Fantastic experience: Wow! I’m in my twenties and I went with 3 other friends. No one else was there in the beginning and the instructor, Matt, taught us everything we needed to know (and more!) and was so kind and patient. He has so much experience and the place is really magical. The indoor caves was the absolute scariest experience of my life, but I trusted the establishment so much and decided to go for it. I will never forget this place and the hard work these people put into it. Thanks for a great night and I will be coming back!

Fantastic experience: Went on a Wednesday afternoon right after they opened. Christian was nice and informed us of the rules and options for rock climbing. The place was clean and there was only 1 other person there at the same time. The place was clean and spacious. So glad I went!! Make sure to register and choose your slot online as well as complete the waiver.

Fantastic experience: We took the Boy Scout Troop 386 here. The boys had a great time! The tunnels were a hit! They loved crawling around in the interconnected tunnels. The zip line is short, but a lot of fun none the less. The boys were never bored at any moment. This place isn't that big, but they make the most out of the space they have. I was expecting it to smell like a workout gym, but I was pleasantly surprised. It actually smelled very nice. There is a large variety of walls to climb for different skill levels. The staff was friendly and made the training very easy.

Fantastic experience: Staff took the time to properly instruct and make sure we felt safe. Female employee even took the time after her shift to take my daughter into the cave system when I couldn't. Cant wait to go back. Three harnesses and shoe rental firms about $30.

Fantastic experience: Fun little hole in the wall to bring the kids. If you actually follow the routes, they are a little more advanced than their competition. However, every time I have been to AIR they have never been mobbed to the point of waiting to climb

Fantastic experience: Love coming here. Been coming for 20 years, and now my kids get to enjoy it. Spelunking is so much fun, especially when you dont have to worry about entrapment, getting lost, etc. The prices are reasonable, and now they do groupon, so definitely check that out for discounts. Doesnt matter if you're new to climbing, or been doing it forever, great place to go.

Fantastic experience: My son had his birthday here and it was a total BLAST! The staff is wonderful, and all the 11 year olds were well trained to belay each other. The caves are so unique and extensive and they kids went back and forth between climbing and exploring that 6 hours went by without a dull moment. We ordered pizza from Little Anthony's next door for a dinner/birthday break in between and refuel. All the kids LOVED this party, and I loved the fact that they were all tired and happy when they came back to my house for a sleepover :)

Fantastic experience: My family and i went here for the first time last weekend. We did not know what to expect. We have a 7 year old and 2 year old. Matt was our instructor and i can not say enough good things about him. He was very patient and thorough. He went above and beyond to help us and to make sure my 7 year old would be safe in the caves. His customer service is exceptional and very much appreciated.

Fantastic experience: Great indoor rockclimbing facility! The routes range from beginner to advanced and are for both belay and bouldering. There's an indoor cave system, too, for those able to fit through the model crevice. The way it works is that you show up, pay for the day, and rent shoes and harness. The staff give you a 5-10 min primer on how to work the belay rope system, which requires zero knowledge of knots since they use caribiners and assisted braking belay devices. Then, you and your friend try it out to show your skills. It's a lot of fun and they have a true variety of routes, positive, negative, and neutral inclines, negative handholds, ladders, etc. If you are on your own, bouldering and the cave system are more than sufficient to have a good time, there is even an indoor zip line. There's water for sale and the atmosphere is pretty chill, a lot of ripped college age climbers, but a lot of first timers and couples on dates, too. There are a good number of kids on weekends, as one might expect. It's a great value for the price!

Fantastic experience: Such a cool little gem. Not only do they have a huge variety of rock walls, but they also have an indoor cave system in the walls. You could spend a whole afternoon here for as low as 8 bucks. There is also a pizza place that's great just down the road. Great for birthdays too!

Fantastic experience: I never knew this place existed until I found it on Groupon and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the employees were super helpful as my family has never tried rock climbing and knew nothing. They were patient and kind. Highly recommend

Fantastic experience: We just had a "lock in" overnight with Troop 26 from Fort Drum, NY. I honestly thought the boys would tire after a few hours, but we literally had to pull them out of the caves and off of the walls! The caving system was a BLAST (even though I got a little "stuck")! It was pitch black in most places and tight, but I was laughing all of the way through it. The Scouts had a great time on and in the walls and ceilings! We will definitely come back!

Fantastic experience: I've climbed at plenty of gyms around the nation, and this is the only one with a cave system. Great fun and exercise for exploring, you can spend hours discovering cool things inside! The gym itself seems to have a great community of people running/supporting it, and some of the routes are great for practicing things like expedition/alpine and hanging belays if you're looking to climb bigger stuff outside. Plus, the rock faces/features are unique. It's not your typical gym, and that's what makes it great!

Fantastic experience: A lot of fun and an alternative activity for fun and fitness. Very friendly atmosphere, often children bday parties but it doesn't over crowd the place.
