Max Fitness Aiken: Opinions

Negative experience: Was speaking to Ron about being charged twice after my membership was canceled . Spoke with him on 3 separate occasions was lied to and never followed up with me. He hung up on me the 3rd time. Do yourself a favor and just go to plant fitness. They treat you however they want and then when you wanna file a complaint, they won’t give you any Corporate or owner information and threaten to call the cops.
Negative experience: DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM!! I signed up earlier this year and couldn’t attend to the gym at all due to a car injury, i received a call TODAY from a lady stating i owe this damn gym $1800 for my membership & if i dont it will be sent to my credit bureau! wtff when i told her i will not be making a payment for something i never used or went to she gone say still yet i signed up!! complete rip off!! & was extremely rude!! save yourself the troubles
Negative experience: My experience at Max has been alright. Insane hidden fees just for broken equipment and uncaring management. John and Jackie are always welcoming. Not sure if this is a gym I would recommend though. Very cleanly, sometimes reeks of mold, and insane contract.
Negative experience: Clueless management, broken/dangerous equipment, DHEC violations <— that’s what max fitness’ slogan should be. No changes have been made with new management, in fact, it’s gotten worse. Obviously there is no care or passion for fitness from ownership or management. The front desk team tries their best, but aren’t well supported. Once my contract is up I won’t be renewing.
Negative experience: I mean like no cables work. Nothing is organized. Half the treadmills are broken. The AC is almost always broken. And the only time I’ve seen a manager do anything besides give tours to poor new people and turn on TVs is to tell people who are working hard to be quieter. Couple of the front desk people like Jackie are nice but management and ownership are a disaster and as far as a clean functioning place with good atmosphere to work hard? That they don’t got. L
Negative experience: Management is rude and uncaring atmosphere is judging of any working hard. Half the machines don’t work. No weights are organized. Pool is constantly under DHEC watch from when they had to shut it down it was so dirty. The Hot Tub is still shut down. The only good thing about the place is Jackie at the front desk is welcoming and professional.
Negative experience: The 1 star is for the gym, the equipment, the culture, and management. The only saving grace about this entire dump of a gym is the front desk. Specifically Jaqueline. She’s literally the best and makes everyone feel welcome. And actually greets people with a smile. Try having a conversation with management about complaints; it’s harder than swimming through the gravel in the hot tub. 5 star Jackie.
Negative experience: On Friday 8/29/25, I decided to go to the gym around 8:45 am to do body pump. When I went into the gym I saw people I knew and was excited to see Ron the gym manger. Now I've been with gold's which turned to Max fitness a few years ago for 3 years as a member. The reason for this review is based on the unprofessional conduct the gym owner displayed. I asked him about the guest pass and asked him if the week pass is similar. I showed him the policy on the website, looking around left and right he says that's for those that never been to the gym. I told him truthfully that I already had another gym but wanted to come back because I've been a member for years. His response was, since I'm not a member and the pass that was given to me is not legit because it wasn't filled out properly. He ripped it in front of me said that I'm not allowed in the gym since I'm not going to join as member which the pass he ripped was good for another week then interrogates me asking me repeatedly who gave you this pass and I told him didn't know but made me feel uneasy because he continued to ask me and then said since I won't tell him then he can't work out anything with me. Then finishes by saying I've spent too much time on this and ignores me. So what I did to make the experience less awkward is ask him if he cares if I share why I'm here and he said I was done listening a long time ago so I said thank you and I reached my hand out for him to shake it. So I understand he's running a business but why didn't he take the time to care for me especially if the gym policy states that? I was not happy with the way I was treated because I was obviously interested in the gym to be there again but the experience made it rather difficult for me to consider going back. There was more to mention about how poorly I was treated, being a member for years means nothing I guess but I think my point is if you aren't trying to join or be a member then it doesn't matter what the situation is he will not listen to you. He's not interested in members satisfaction. I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through it was disheartening.
Negative experience: The facility is not clean. No hand sanitizer station that works in the women’s locker, dust build up around the air unit which has been there for months the way it looks, light bulb not replaced, and same tissue and dirt in the women’s area for days. I don’t think they are putting sanitizer in the spray bottles to disinfect (not sure). The male cleaner is not allowed to clean women’s area. There is missing sanitizer in the main area as well. Can’t add picture from the shower area. Nasty!
Negative experience: I have been a member for several years when it was Gold’s Gym. It is ok, but things don’t get repaired. If it didn’t have a pool I would not be there. Is anything ever going to be done about the water gushing in the women’s locker next to the pool? It is now running under the flooring halfway into the locker room. The doorway to the first dressing room is rotted and moldy. After you filled in the hot tub as a solution to that not working, what will your solution be for this part of the water problem.
Fantastic experience: Nice local gym. Good amenities. My wife likes the ladies only area.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Aiken
Positive experience: It has a pool. Bad about keeping maintenance for some things, took down hot tub after not filling it for months and steam room remains closed after several months. Water fountain was broken for a while. Hours are still weird on weekend instead of just open 24/7.
Positive experience: Good size gym with many machines.
Negative experience: This gym is an absolute rip off. Their contract is convoluted, if you have an emergency and can no longer afford the membership they don’t care. The front desk is rude. Just had 2 pulls out of my account 1 for $49 and 1 for the membership. If you don’t want to get ripped off, don’t go to this gym.
Fantastic experience: This gym is huge and has everything that you could possibly want to use. Very helpful staff as well
Fantastic experience: OMG Jackie’s Playlist AKA Jacqueline’s Bangers 2.0 is totes da bomb. Best front desk attendant fo sho
Fantastic experience: Awesome place
Negative experience: This gym always has broken equipment. The last 2 times I came to workout I couldn't because someone didn't show up for childcare. If they only have one worker they stop taking kids. There was one worker with like 6 kids. Manager didn't even try and help her even though there were multiple people up front.
Positive experience: As gyms go, it's slightly above average, imo. The hours are okay for my schedule, but not 24 hrs, as Gold's offered. It's the only public option in the area that includes an indoor pool. I can't afford country club membership. Maintenance is spotty and not a priority. Cleaning is mostly okay. After 3 years as a member, the same facilities break down and apparently cannot be fixed, e.g., the hot tub, showers, steam room. I am guessing the plumbing is outdated, so that's major. Patch repairs aren't gonna cut it. They tried to upgrade cosmetically (carpet, flooring, paint) and even included some new equipment. There's a treadmill in the lady's gym that's been out of order for 3 years! LOL! Lockers stay broken. I don't know anything about owning and maintaining such a large gym facility that has so much to offer, and significant potential. As is typical with this business, $ales, $ales, $ales is all that they focus on. I do not expect to renew at the end of my 2yr paid-in-full contract.
Fantastic experience: Jackie is hands down one of the most dedicated and motivating people I’ve met at the gym. Whether she’s helping with information on sessions, offering encouragement, or just checking in with a smile, she brings genuine energy and appeals to her audience every single day. She knows her stuff, listens to your goals, and makes you feel welcome and supported no matter where you’re starting from.
Negative experience: I joined 6 months ago and paid 2 yrs upfront. Not managed well at all. Broken Hot tub since I joined. Steamroom needs fixed and drinking fountains remain broke. It's a shame. I'd be embarrassed if I owned the place. Lockers are all broken as well as soap dispensers in showers. The place is horrible....
Negative experience: Yesterday I started the cancellation process of my personal training because it is becoming inconvenient due to the change on the gyms end. I haven’t even been a part of the personal training for a month. I am trying to cancel my personal training because of the amount I’m paying the service or experience just seems to not be worth it and the email read that I need to pay about 800 something to cancel something that serves me no actual purpose and is starting to be inconvenient. You may be saying that is what I signed But during the time of signing documents on an iPad, I told explicitly that I was unable to see because I did not have contacts in to read the document. He insisted that he would just read the document and I can just fill in the information as needed he skipped over a good bit of important information About the cancellation process so I had no idea That it was not month-to-month or the amount of money they would want for want To be able to cancel I am truly disappointed in everything during this cancellation process has been So they will not have to deal with the customer so if you need to sign anything Before signing do not take their word because somewhere in the contract, it literally says That there’s no verbal agreements and if it’s a contract, don’t you need a full of signature cause I just initial I feel like it’s pretty clear that I couldn’t read it moral of the story just do the basics gym membership
Negative experience: Overpriced and staff not friendly at all.
Negative experience: I really liked the front desk staff at this gym. Unfortunately, the management experience was very different. I was told I’d get access to Augusta and North Augusta locations, which wasn’t true. They ignored multiple emails and dragged out the cancellation process. After submitting my cancellation form three times with no response, they still tried to charge me for an extra month. I had to go in person several times just to make sure I wouldn’t be charged again. I’ve since heard from several other people who had similar issues, and I wish I had listened. Be cautious and double-check everything before signing and no you won’t get any other max fitness location except for them.
Negative experience: The air conditioning hardly ever works. Not sure they sweep daily. Always dust bunnies and hair in group room.
Fantastic experience: It's the best gym in Aiken. Very friendly staff and people.
Fantastic experience: Kailey, is a great a great coach and she has been coaching me now for 7 weeks. I look forward to going each week and I also workout on my own. The staff at max fitness is very nice and friendly. Addison is very helpful and patient. He will also work with you on making sure you get scheduled and guiding you on a healthy eating plan. The best choice I’ve was to join this gym and it’s so big with everything in it that you would desire to workout with to become physical fit. Priscilla Robinson
Negative experience: My daughter went in to cancel her membership due to moving. They demand proof that she is moving and will charge for an additional 30 days, if we do not provide proof of the move they will charge a fee as well. I find this a horrible way to do business. I am sitting on hold waiting for the manager who is refusing to come to the phone. Be forewarned.. before you sign up for this gym.
Negative experience: I’ve been a member for over a year and didn’t have any issues until I downgraded my membership and now they’re charging me 2x what they’re supposed to be charging me but they say they can’t find me in the system?! And every time I call they can’t resolve it and say they’re going to call me back. I’ve called them at least 7 times and have not got a call back once. I need the owner Cliff Hall to resolve this immediately or I’m going to my bank and claiming fraud on them.
Negative experience: Do not go to this Gym! The equipment is alway broken, none of the cleaning supplies are functioning, and the mens locker room is mostly broken locker doors. I also sent 6 emails and two phone calls about canceling before someone finally answered the phone 3 months later to tell me I had to cancel in person. Highly highly highly do not recommend this gym!
Negative experience: Management is terrible! Lots of broken equipment that takes months to get fixed. AC is broken and it is over 80 degrees inside. Fans are broken too so there is no air circulation. Someone decided it would be a good idea to remove most of the paper towel dispensers and spray bottles so now fewer people are wiping down equipment. Who is running this place??
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this gym and their personal training company, Elevate Fitness! My trainer is Kathy and she is extremely knowledgeable, pushes me to reach my goals, and we have a genuine bond that I’ve never had with another trainer. I couldn’t ask for more!! I also love the gym itself. I would come here when it was Gold’s and I liked it then, but love it even more now with the new floors and updated area next to the front desk. The girls at the front desk are also so sweet and always greet you! Love this place and the people so much. ❤️
Fantastic experience: Love this gym so far!!! I signed up for the personal trainer with Addison Compton and he is absolutely the best! He will push you to your limits and help you find what works using good form and healthy habits!
Fantastic experience: Met with Addison from Elevate Fitness, he gave me a complete breakdown of a fitness and meal plan to achieve my fitness goals. He’s super knowledgeable and understanding!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been very impressed with the personalized service of the front desk, office manager (billing) & Addison (trainer). These folks work together like a well oiled machine serving me with all me exercise needs!
Fantastic experience: Was once a member when this location was Gold’s Gym. Moved back to Aiken and got a membership here now that it’s Max Fitness! It’s a revamped gym from what it once was. Newer equipment with more of a variety. My only complaint is that they’re no longer 24 hrs everyday but what can ya do ♂️ Now.. clearly it states on machines/water fountains that maintenance has been contacted. These former/current members that are commenting need to understand that these things can’t always be fixed at the drop of a hat. It takes time to receive work orders and responses and time for those things to get done. For those complaining about people flexing in front of mirrors and taking videos/pictures?? Move to a gym that doesn’t allow it. Would you prefer that they take pictures of themselves in the locker rooms? Where people change NO. Let them be proud of their physiques. Whether they’re younger or older. They’re not harming anyone so if you’re offended, humble yourself and understand that this isn’t your personal gym. It’s a public gym. Also, a newer generation AND older generation works out here so the music is bound to be all over the place in terms of diversity. Don't like it? There’s a vast majority of brands that sell headphones. Buy some, use them and you have nothing else to complain about. I want to see this gym around for years and years. Just wanted to write a review to give credit where it’s due. Also, the front desk peeps are always polite! Keep it up, Max Fitness!
Negative experience: This gym I highly do not recommend… a lot of broken equipment. Usually takes about a month to fix… all the spray bottles don’t work or are broken.. I canceled my membership and they still charged me a monthly fee stating it takes 30 days for paperwork to process. Then they charged me annual maintenance fee… this morning they charged me again for a month. It’s been 6 weeks since I been there… very unprofessional.
Negative experience: What a scam is this place!! When your membership ends they automatically roll you into a monthly program. To cancel this I emailed and went to max fitness in person. There is never a manger there. 2 months After cancelling I received a notice that I owed over $100. Prior to this I had my credit card company deny them the monthly payment. I was told I would have to re establish membership to cancel. This would mean paying more money for something I cancelled. What kind o logic is that!!???!
Fantastic experience: I am so pleased with Maxfitness. Staff is nice & helpful with questions etc. love the pool since I physically can’t do other exercises right now. The sauna is great and the only women area is perfect!
Fantastic experience: Love the atmosphere here
Positive experience: started a month ago, some pleasant staff members, but had a mtg with one…he showed 25 mins late! Hygiene & maintenance….needs a bit more attention: several locker doors (5) with one screw holding the door, latches missing, some shower-stall doors are missing, dingy floors too, minimal lighting, need to regularly power wash the floor at the pool (dirt pods). Hopefully it will change? …esp hygiene, if not…
Positive experience: Best of the 3 in the local area. Locker rooms are occasionally smelly, however very friendly staff.
Negative experience: This is the worst gym i’ve ever been to. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! The women’s only gym was a great addition but the equipment was always broken and it’s very small. The bathrooms were not kept up and there was never any paper towels. They also will not let you cancel your membership, you have to go through a long complicated process for your membership to be cancelled and then they still charge you fees. My house and car were crushed in Hurricane Helene and i had to stay with family in Georgia. When I tried to go to the other Max Fitness, they told me I could only go to the one in Aiken which was now an hour from my house. I explained to them what happened and they still would not let me cancel my membership after I couldn’t afford to make the payments every month they sent a debt collector after me for a fee of $800. Max Fitness did not tell me my membership kept going after the 1 year it was supposed to be up and that was a part of my fee. THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH A GYM I HAVE EVER HAD. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! go anywhere else but this gym it may seem nice but anywhere is better than this and more reasonable.
Fantastic experience: Huge gym with lots of different equipment and an indoor swimming pool. The staff is very pleasant and keep it clean. The person trainer Kailey was extremely helpful, encouraging and motivating in getting back into shape. Would recommend the gym and trainer Kailey.
Negative experience: Things are always broken. For being such a high volume gym, you’d think they’d actually maintain and upkeep the gym… they don’t. Often times you’re left having to wait to do your workout because the only functioning piece of equipment is taken. Staff trainers are walking around with no shoes on and their bellies out. I have been to many gyms across the country and never have I seen such dis-functionality and unprofessional by gym staff or upkeep. I pay a maintenance fee, yearly, where does it go??? There is no excuse for upholstery to be so torn up, cables snapped daily, and benches not being screwed in. There has to be at minimum 4K members here. That’s 160k in maintenance fees every year AT MINIMUM. Do better.
Fantastic experience: Great gym have better equipment and the staff is excellently
Fantastic experience: While my experience with Maxfitness was cool. I suffered a brain aneurysm in July and moved out of the area. It was hard handling business thousands of miles away on the phone but Megan came on and made it so easy. She was considerate, pleasant and a problem solver and I really appreciate her. GIVE HER A RAISE!!!!….not with more responsibilities either, just a raise.
Negative experience: Fix the goddamn steam room
Positive experience: Great gym. Restroom not that great
Positive experience: Much of the equipment could use repair. Music is deafening hard rock. Reasonable price and close to my house or I would find another gym.
Negative experience: The staff is friendly except for one girl. She seems to not want to be there. Their equipment is falling apart and most are out of order. Although they did get some new equipment. The pool finally got fixed after a month. The heater was broken. The hot tub has excessive bubbles, which usually means something is out of balance, and the water isn’t quite right. Usually means that the water is thick, old or contaminated with chemicals. You absolutely reek of chlorine after you get out even with a couple of showers, and the water is not that hot. Speaking of showers the water hardly gets hot. One of the saunas in the men’s locker room is out of order and has been for a few months now. The doors to the lockers in the men’s locker room near the pool are falling apart, quite a few have missing doors or the doors are barely hanging on, and there are roaches inside the lockers, and showers. not to mention all the teenyboppers, the gen Z’ers who hog the mirrors as they set up their cameras and take pictures of themselves flexing is getting out of hand. I’ve never been to gym where it seems to be the norm that all the young people walk around without any shoes just socks. I walked in the other day and the music was terrible. I mean it was curse word after curse word then it shut off and didn’t come back on so someone must have said something, and then the other day there was heavy metal playing. It was screaming. You couldn’t even understand the words. I just had to walk out. The hydro massage chairs are still not working. I had to sign a contract and I have to fulfill my end of the contract, but this gym is not fulfilling their end of their contract by having working equipment. Not sure what the deal is.
Negative experience: This gym gets worse and worse the more its max fitness. WHY IS THE MUSIC UP SO LOUD THAT I CAN HEAR WITH HEADPHONES ON??? The music is terrible and with my music all the way up this should not be happening. If and when they fix stuff it takes forever. Bench in women room is torn bad and has been for quite sometime. Its a bunch of ragged equipment. This was posted more than a month ago and the bench in women room is still not fixed. You can even sanitize it because the cover is almost torn off. You are cool taking people’s money but fail to fix whats jacked up and the THIS GYM ONLY GETS WORSE.
Fantastic experience: Jacquelin is the goat and she brings a positive vibe and atmosphere to the gym.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been having a great gym experience here for the time I’ve been attending. Jacqueline greeted me exceptionally well, ensuring I felt welcomed and supported as soon as I walked in. Highly recommend!
Positive experience: Love the variety of options for a workout.
Negative experience: Front desk staff are cordial and professional. They charge $40 per member a year to improve the quality of the equipment, however, nothing is been done! It’s broken or so used some branches look like party potty and the sauna never works !!! JOKE! Would not recommend!!!
Positive experience: The Staff was nice But I don't like them holding onto my license, also very dark and uncomfortably warm , hard to work out with it being sot warm
Negative experience: I was a member of Max Fitness (prior to that, Gold’s Gym) at this location for over 8 years. I am also transgender. I received no complaints during my entire time at the gym until, one day, I received a phone call out of the blue informing me that they received non-specific ‘complaints’ and I was no longer allowed to use the women’s locker room. Their proposed solution would deny me access to bathrooms and a storage locker at this location. For this reason I give this the lowest possible score and strongly recommend that LGBTQ+ individuals and Allies to avoid this and their sister properties in the CSRA.
Fantastic experience: I love this gym! It has everything I need - lots of machines & free weights, a women-only workout room and a pool! Megan is so welcoming and knowledgeable. Revamped my workout routine while enjoying training sessions with Marc and Tony. Great job everyone!
Fantastic experience: Hands down the most equipped gym in the area. Hot tub, sauna, pool, free weights, machines, bikes, treadmills, private women area, 2 locker rooms, trainers on sight, friendly staff, child care center and the list goes on. Some gyms might only charge 10 dollars a month but you're only getting 10 dollars worth the amenities. This place is hands down the best bang for your buck.
Fantastic experience: Marc was very awesome and gave plenty of knowledge and expertise.
Fantastic experience: My husband and I just joined this gym along with my sister and brother, and we love this gym.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoy being a Maxz Fitness member. The Aiken gym is my favorite. The pool and hot tub are really blessing.
Fantastic experience: I enjoy being a member of Maxx Fitness. The Aiken, SC gym is five star. The best part of Maxx Fitness Aiken is the year around pool and hot tub. The staff is also very friendly.
Positive experience: Looks like Gold's Gym, because, well....anyway. NGL, I joined to use the pool. It's the only tolerable exercise I can do. Besides, the kids love swimming. I wish that they let the kids open swim like other places we are members. That's unfortunate. There is a children's area, but our time is family time. Oh well, still a very nice looking facility, with super nice staff.
Fantastic experience: Max fitness is a super clean and nice facility. Lots of equipment for all types of people. Started with my new trainer Marc Blankenship super great guy and really informative. 10/10 recommend
Negative experience: This gym has a lot of great equipment that planet fitness does not have. It has incredible potential. The people that go here are great. HOWEVER- the management needs some serious improvement. Equipment gets broken and left in service, it takes months and months to replace, management doesn’t communicate with the receptionists about anything going on, management is also never in the building. I go every morning before I have to take my kid to school and I like using the sauna at the end of my workout. Max fitness has decided they want to close the bathroom and sauna every morning at 6 o clock, even though the sign says closed from FIVE TO SIX. Every morning we have to deal with a cleaning lady coming in the bathroom upset. She should clean the bathroom when there isn’t a crowd in the building. Then after exiting the sauna if you can manage to stay in there past the visible frustrations of the staff, the shower water is cold. Zero hot water. It has been brought to the staffs attention 4 times. No hot water for months.Maybe this review will help them realize they have a problem. Also this bathroom closed sign has been up for 2 months, and the cleaning lady cleans at a different time EVERY SINGLE MORNING. Make some changes Max. This is getting old.
Fantastic experience: Love Max Fitness!
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the csra.
Negative experience: Equipment is constantly broken, may or may not have running water. May or may not open on time. Staff is awful.
Hey Jessica, I hate to hear you are experiencing this! We really try to ensure things are up and running and operating. If you would like to further discuss your concerns and complaints, we would be more than happy to hear from you. You can contact us at [email protected]
Negative experience: Update (My opinion has changed. I've fallen off of a treadmill that was not marked as broken. Most of the Treadmill are broken in some way. I've showed up many times and they had no water in the whole build. Water Pips are broken often, staff are rude. I told a stiff member of a broken pipe and I was told that's not my job. I don't look forward to going to this gym anymore and honest been thinking about just paying the $199 and going to PF. I used to love this gym but over the past year you can see no one cares) Best Gym in Aiken ..... But it's almost not open on the weekends. I work 7am to 7pm so can't go at all on Saturday or Sundays. Beyond that it's a great gym.
Hey Lance, we appreciate your feedback! I hate to hear you can't attend us very often on the weekends. We need feedback like this to know there is a need still...maybe something we could revisit in the future again expanding the weekend hours again! We will pass this along to those who make these decisions for sure! We appreciate you and your business and loyalty.
Fantastic experience: Big gym, used to be a golds. Jaqueline was very helpful and if you have questions about your membership/interested in joining, talk to her.
Positive experience: Front info desk are rude and don't listen. Lots of equipment and lots of people in various stages of fitness. Lots of classes to sign up for.
Hey Rob, I hate you have had an issue with our staff, this does not sound like our standard! If you would like to further discuss your concerns with the front desk feel free to reach out to us [email protected], we desire to correct any staffing issues at hand. I am glad you feel we have a lot to offer as far as the facility goes though! We hope to hear from you soon!
Positive experience: Edit (They have reached out to me. I will change my review to reflect the respect I was shown. I'm hopeful they will fix the iusse) This gym has gone down hill. I've been here almost 3 years and the same things are broken. You never know when they are open. The staff have became rude and honestly just not good. The sad thing is they know this and they don't care. Just go to PF you will save money.
I hate to hear this has been your experience. We need all feedback to become better and more aware of issues. I would be happy to hear from you in more detail about staffing issues and additional concerns if you are open to sharing them. We hope to hear from you, [email protected]
Negative experience: This place has really gone down hill. Why does it seem impossible to fix broken machines and replace pads that have holes worn in them?? The facility is filthy. locker rooms smell like mildew. mold in the showers. There seems to always be lots of staff hanging around doing nothing. Maybe take a walk around the gym and notice all the things that need to be addressed. or straighten up the mess, rack weights, replace paper towels. The management is certainly lacking.
Negative experience: I had an extremely negative experience with Max Fitness due to their shady business practices. I signed up for a month-to-month agreement, but when I stopped going and stopped paying, they sent me to their collections agency, CRI of Augusta. They falsely claimed I wasn't following my contract. I had to fight CRI and show them that my contract was indeed month-to-month. These people will destroy your credit and don't care to fix any errors they may make without pulling teeth. I highly recommend avoiding Max Fitness and any gym that requires a contract. Go somewhere else to avoid these underhanded tactics.
Fantastic experience: max fitness is a great gym. i love it. its huge and has more than enough equipment. i’m from california so my expectations are high and max met them
Negative experience: Staff is super nice. But none of the machines at this gym work. Got on 8 different machines in a row just to find out none of them worked. Super frustrating.
Negative experience: My husband and I were members of golds gym, back in 2018 sauna always down, hot tub green stinking water, lots of issues, Then every month some kind of fees, WONDERING IF IF IS STILL THIS BAD..
Negative experience: I want to preface my review by saying my husband and I just moved to Aiken in December, and I initially purchased a membership at the O'Dell Weeks community gym as it's close to our residence. Someone recommended we check out Max Fitness, as they have classes, a sauna, a pool, etc. - Simply put, many more amenities than what the community gym offers. In the handful of months that we've been coming to this gym, I see the same (and additional) equipment continually out of service, trash on the floor in the Ladies Only gym area, weights and workout equipment ALWAYS in a dissaray (I thought employees typically took care of this?), and even the paper towel dispensers and spray bottles of disinfectany are broken/non-functional 90% of the time. Yes, down to the spray bottles - which is pretty disgusting and unsanitary if folks can't even wipe their sweat from the equipment. Not sure if there's a health code or something associated with that, but it's really starting to gross me out. Additionally, I was out of town for a few weeks, and upon returning, it seems the A/C in the Ladies Only gym area isn't working. It feels like I'm working out outside in the 90° heat. Not sure how long that's been going on, but it's pretty miserable (but, on the bright side, I get a gnarly sweat on ). Not to mention, some of the front desk folks can be really hit or miss - some are very friendly, and some look as if they'd rather be sleeping or fully absorbed in their phones. ♀️ My husband and I have enjoyed Jody's classes (she's a hoot - two stars are for her!), and I'm thankful for the ocassional hot sauna (which also usually has trash inside and looks in dire need of a cleaning), but I definitely - and unfortunately- wouldn't suggest this gym to others. The community gym may be small, but at least I feel like they take pride in their facility and keep it in clean, working order, and the employees are always kind and welcoming. The main reason my husband and I joined this gym is because they had an apparent "screaming deal" for SRS employees on a year-long membership for both of us, but it really makes me wonder... iif they're charging an arm and a leg for normal memberships, why are those funds not reflecting in the quality of their gym? I really don't love leaving this review, but after bringing up these concerns to the folks at the front desk multiple times, I'd feel even worse not sharing it for potential gym-goers to read ahead of time. I'll still come to this gym, but my experience has been far lower than my original expectations. Please, Max Fitness, do something about these issues, and don't keep brushing them off. ***Quick Edit*** When I told the front desk gal (I forget her name but she's always nice!) that the paper towel dispenser and sanitizer bottle are still broken - since last week - she said she'd make note of it (as did the gal last week), and then she said something like, "I'm pretty sure he has those ordered." I'm not sure how that process goes, but...I'm pretty sure I can go buy those at the dollar store for super cheap. Like...I will LITERALLY go buy them for the gym if it means we all get to use sanitizer on a regular basis...Is that at all appropriate, or should I just bring my own?
Negative experience: My daughter and I joined Max Fitness Gym in Aiken, SC in 2021. We were misled by an Elevate Fitness sales representative regarding their personal trainer services. At that time, we were assured of a monthly membership. We adhered to this payment plan for as long as we were members, until 2022. Imagine our surprise when my daughter discovered a delinquent payment submitted under her name, which was only found out about during a loan application process. As a member who values transparency and integrity, I find this discrepancy frustrating. I believe it is essential for the written contract to align with the verbal agreement made during the enrollment process, as well as open communication maintained between customer and business. Making verbally fraudulent promises to dishonestly secure a sale is manipulative and shameful behavior for any sales representative. Given that Max Fitness is affiliated with Elevate Fitness as business associates, this dishonest behavior reflects poorly on and carries responsibility for both parties. I urge potential members to be cautious about signing up with Elevate Fitness. My experience with Elevate Fitness has been extremely disappointing and has damaged my trust in their integrity. Avoid this service if you value integrity and honesty.
Negative experience: This could be a great gym but the management is terrible. Maybe nonexistent. Worn pads on equipment take months, maybe years, to be replaced. This is a health and safety hazard but it seemingly goes unnoticed by the staff. This is also true for broken equipment. Paper towel dispensers are frequently empty. Disinfectant spray bottles that don’t work or leak. Mildew all over the locker rooms. Not sure if these issues are due to the management or the ownership. My guess would be a combination of both. Owners trying to maximize profit and squeeze every cent out of the place and management that reflects that lack of interest/pride.
Positive experience: It was a good gym. The equipment is a bit older and the place is definitely cramped. I loved the smaller workout section upstairs. It was newer and spread out. That was definitely a plus. The bottom floor could benefit from a redesign, though, as the equipment is just soo close to each other. Jaqueline helped get us a day pass, and is a rockstar! Phenomenal customer service. She deserves recognition!
Negative experience: I have been a member since they were Golds Gym. They have improved in some ways, and REALLY dropped the ball in others. Sanitation is terrible honestly. Especially in the bathrooms. When I walk into a public bathroom, I don't want to see dry blood on the floor, fecal matter on walls, puddles of dry pee under urinals, etc. Also, equipment shouldn't be "out of order" for weeks at a time. If a cable system goes out of order here, don't expect it to be back in service for atleast a month. The staff is great here, very friendly and I do enjoy this gym, but you need to do better.
Fantastic experience: Love this place so much. I needed a place with childcare and now they have swim lesson which just makes them even better. Everyone there is nice, I'm not sure there is anything they don't have! Classes, pool, hot tub, sauna, free weights, benches, tons of cardio and other machines.
We are so happy to hear that you are loving Max Fitness and all we offer! We know it's members like you that make this a great place to be!
Negative experience: Cancellation should not be a difficult process.
Hey KJ, our cancellations are all done via form or via email! It's a 30 day required notice, and only if you are in an agreement is any proof required! If no proof is provided that's eligible, you do have the option to pay the early termination fee! However, if you have completed the agreement term, all we need is a written notice to cancel! We do them all in house, and have made the cancellation a smooth process as long as you contact the proper email or go into the location and meet the requirements to cancel!
Negative experience: I have been a member of Golds Gym for 8 years and then it changed to Max Fitness. I haven't used my membership in 2 years and decided to cancel my membership. Did what the front desk employees told me to do and said all was canceled. 3 months later I get a report from my credit karma that my payments have been sent to collections. Call the manager and they said would call me back 3 days ago. I paid my collection bill off to get it off my credit but this is terrible service. I was also told the front desk staff does not know how the cancelations work so if that is so why are they allowed to handle these kind of situation. People beware go to Planet Fitness if you want a gym member ship. NOT HERE
Negative experience: I've been a member for more than 3 years and I've been hoping things will get better. The reason I joined this gym is because they have a sauna, but for the last 3 years the sauna has been working on and off. The temperature is not constant. Sometime is good sometimes is too low. Complaining to the staff never helped. Beside that, take a look at how the sauna looks like. Attached some pictures I took yesterday. The problem is that has been like that since I joined. I'm wondering what would take for them to clean it. I'm usually not picky but I'll let you be the judge of that. The reason I'm going with 2 starts and not only one is because the sauna still works. Beside cleaning the ancient dirt in the sauna, would be nice if management would spend the money to get a new sauna stove. It's has been due for a replacements since it was Gold's Gym. I hope the management or anybody that has the power to change things or cares about the customers will see this and take action. The steam room smells like mold. I don't know how people can use it. It seems like a heath hazard. I'm willing to change the review if things get corrected., but I doubt it will get fixed...we'll see.
Hey Gabriel, we appreciate your feedback. We always need to know where we can improve. I will be sure this review and images are sent over to our ownership directly to see that these issues can be resolved. We appreciate your time and an opportunity to correct these issues. If you would like to further contact us and discuss additional issues feel free to email us at [email protected]
Negative experience: At least 20% of the equipment is broken or unusable. You have to go searching for clips/d rings any time you want to use the cable machines which half are missing the pins to choose/hold the weight selected.
Hey Jeremy, I hate to hear this is happening at our location. I will be sure to forward this over to the ownership of the facility, to ensure this is being addressed. I appreciate your feedback and if you would like to further discuss any additional issues feel free to contact us at [email protected]
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout.Lots of areas of machines.Love the PUSH classes.Friendly staff wiling to help in anyway.❣️
Thanks, Sharon! We appreciate your kind words and loyalty to our facility!
Negative experience: My wife is a new member and she did not sign up for any personal training. The gym started charging us $80 (3 times so far). Its been a month and no refund. Tried to reach the manager and left a message and no call back. Charging new members for services they didn’t sign up for seems to be a trend here.
Hey, we hate to hear of this experience. Please email us at [email protected] so we can direct you to the appropriate contact with our Personal Training company and hopefully get this resolved or clarified for you all.
Positive experience: Good atmosphere. Love the sauna, stem room, and pool. Definitely should check it out
Thanks for your feedback, Joseph! We are happy to hear we are meeting your expectations and hope to continue to. Be sure to refer your friends to earn some free time! We appreciate your business and loyalty!!
Fantastic experience: This is one the gyms best features. After hitting your workout hard ask the front desk for a hydro massage chair! It will be the best thing you do even on your rest days just come in and relax in a dark room it’s so relaxing and refreshing.
Thanks, Holly! We appreciate your time to leave us a review and some feedback! We really love that hydro massage as well! It really soothes the muscles after a hard workout! We appreciate you and your loyalty to our gym!
Negative experience: Gym is dirty, equipment is always broken, cables are always snapping on people and then left rendered useless for months because they won’t fix it. They get away with all of this because they are the only “good” gym in Aiken. Dont come here unless you want to get hurt because of a lack of maintenance and care.
We hate to hear this has been your experience at our facility! We really do strive to keep things properly operating and of course safe. Be sure anything seen broken and not notated is reported to the front desk so we can ensure proper parts are being ordered in a timely manner! We would love to further discuss your concerns and possibly see about compensating you a month or two for your dissatisfaction. Please email us at [email protected]
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of Max Fitness Gym for some time now, and I have to say it's been a fantastic journey. The gym is well-equipped with modern machines and has a welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to assist with any questions. I've seen great progress in my fitness goals since joining. The variety of classes they offer is also a plus. Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned gym-goer, Max Fitness has something to offer. Highly recommended!
Thank you for your feedback! We love hearing we have improved your fitness journey for the best! We are always trying to offer new and popular classes and keep our equipment relevant! Be sure to refer your friends to earn free months, and also check out our newest PUSH classes! See the front desk for additional details!
Positive experience: I very nice gym
Thanks, Jason! We appreciate your review, and a 5 star at that!
Positive experience: New updates and equipment looks and works great! Update: several pieces of equipment need parts or pads replaced.
JC, we appreciate you as a loyal member and your feedback! We are working swiftly to try and have all of these replaced! If it's not marked, please notify the front desk and we will try to have this corrected as soon as possible.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and plenty of equipment for every style of workout!
Thanks, Casey! We appreciate your review and you being a part of the Max Fitness family!
Negative experience: PLEASE TURN THE POOL HEATER ON!!! Some people like to start their day with a pool workout and can’t because it’s freezing cold.
