Reach Fieldhouse: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Arturo Salas is a great Man Great trainer
Negative experience: This is a great gym if you know how to do your own thing with crossfit related equipment. Sadly, it is an old building and people upstairs keep dropping their weights ignoring all the signs telling them not to do it, the reason this review is low is because this is not enforced proactively and i'm afraid the roof will come down while working out in the basement. Tech bros really need to be told or else they'll literally bring the roof down

Positive experience: I really want to like this gym, but the building quality leaves much to be desired. I hadn’t been in a while, then I remembered why I stopped going. Every time I leave I end up feeling very sick. I’m almost positive there is a ton of mold in the building. It probably isn’t safe to spend more than 15-30 minutes at a time here. I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing any kind of cardio here.
Fantastic experience: Great gym for the price! I've been a basic member for around 4-5 months and couldn't be happier. You get a keychain for 24 hour access. Equipment is always available, even during typically busy times. It's never crowded and I can always do my workout quickly and efficiently. The other members are polite and conscientious. Overall very positive vibe. The appearance of the place is not exactly polished, but it is kept clean, especially the washrooms. They tend to fall behind a little on maintenance but they quickly address any member concerns. Some of the exercise equipment, particularly the stuff with built in electronics, doesn't always work well. If a particular cardio machine is central to your routine, check with the staff before you sign up. This hasn't been an issue for me since I mainly use the weights. I haven't taken any classes but they seem to be popular. People come from all over town for the boxing lessons which I do want to try out sometime soon.
Negative experience: I’ve been a member here for years. I want to like this gym so badly, but the equipment and the building itself are visibly falling apart in real time. There have been multiple ceiling cave-ins during my time here and there are posted signs to not drop the weights—not because of the noise, but so it doesn’t cause the floor to collapse. It feels unsafe to be here, and is often physically uncomfortable due to the temperature inside and building debris and broken equipment strewn about. Equipment that breaks is not repaired or replaced, and sits broken or missing for months on end, which is frustrating (even acknowledging the affordable monthly membership fee). I hope management takes some proactive steps to get this place into shape, because the people here are lovely and it has the potential to be a great community spot.
Fantastic experience: Wished I still lived in the neighborhood just so I could still come here to lift. Best gym in all of Chicago.
Negative experience: It's open 24 hours and the staff is cool which is awesome. That being said, the building itself is in disarray and the equipment is in shambles. Many things are broken, it does not feel sanitary or safe overall to spend long amounts of time in this space. I really wanted to call this place home but after a few months I just couldn't justify it, even at the low price.
Fantastic experience: Listen this is a no frills, let's get your @ss in shape kind of place. It's probably going to remind you more of your high school weight room, than your local FFC/Equinox....for me that was the draw. I wanted to get back to my grassroots of training. And you know what, I have seen pretty good results. As an active Triathlon racer, biker, swimmer, runner, hiker, skier...I have surpassed the plateau I was stuck at while going to FFC. My bike speed is way up, my run time, way down, and weight loss with muscle gain is going better than ever without as much concentration on dieting. Yeah, if I am in a bind, when the weather is horrible and I need to bike 40 miles, I go to FFC where I still have a membership...but I go to Reach to get results.
Fantastic experience: Awesome gym for olympic lifting, crossfit oriented workouts. If you're serious about exercise, and you're not in it just to hang out, this is the best place I've found in Chicago. Can't wait to take some boxing classes.
Positive experience: Bare bones gym with plenty of boxing equipment and space for crossfit workouts. There are minimal facilities, lockers, amenities, etc. If you want a place you can work hard and get hyphy this is it. If you want a clean place with helpful staff and an encouraging or collaborative environment this isn't. It seems more of a collective of private trainers than a full service gym. They have classes that are add-on charges to the base membership and can get pretty territorial. I think they opened in the past year or so, so they continue to make changes - hopefully for the better. For better or worse, this gym does the bare minimum and leaves the rest to you.
Fantastic experience: this gym is great lots of open classes and the personal trainers are amazing!!!!! ask for a session with jason he'll get you results BOOM!!!
Fantastic experience: Love my gym
Fantastic experience: The best!
Negative experience: Not one person wears a mask while working or working out here. Very disappointing.
Positive experience: It's a really good gym and the staff is helpful and friendly. the only issue I have is this I did the 3 day trail so gave them my CC # to put on file and paid the 15 dollar deposit. after the 3 days decided it wasn't for me so I went on Thursday 4-29 to return the Key FOB and get my 15 deposit back. The gentleman at the front desk told me " you just keep the keep it and there is no refund. its in the registration email." I was like ok, so I went back and re-read the email and here is what it says. "For your reference, here are the details of your membership: Registration is required for all facility access tours, personal training, membership, and trials Fill out all information accurately and bring in legal photo identification for records and verification. A valid credit card will be kept on file for trials, memberships, training, and pass access. Key Fobs will be issued with a $15 refundable deposit for access and check in tracking. " so if you do the 3 day trail just know you will no get the refund if you decide not to join the gym. Just a FYI
Fantastic experience: This is the spot!
Positive experience: Small gym and small and cold locker room 3 days u can try it for free or can be free membership with your insurance
Fantastic experience: Hands down the best place I have been to exercise and hone skills. Boxing, MMA, weights, cardio, excellent employees and ownership. And now all day everyday 24 hours. Full size boxing ring, and one of the boxing coaches worked with a former UFC heavyweight champion. I'm confident in saying that everyone can find an activity they will enjoy
Fantastic experience: Love the boxing classes and the members! What a great fitness community!
Negative experience: I went there today, and this fella. He was very big, and of African descent. He told me that I had to leave because last time I was there I didn't want to take a tour
Fantastic experience: Great boxing program. I’ve been going to Arturo for 7 months and enjoy it every time.
Fantastic experience: My old gym, have been training there every single morning. Miss this place!
Fantastic experience: I love working out I want to try it out
Fantastic experience: This is the best gym for serious physical training. Come here if you want to really push yourself outside your comfort zone.
Fantastic experience: I love this place! Whether you're looking to lift, crossfit, or box the space is great. The staff is always very welcoming and friendly, plus the music is always very upbeat and will definitely hype you up. Johnny is the best! He's very down to earth, and is very knowledgeable and supportive. I have been able to achieve fitness goals I always wanted to, but never really thought I could.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Daniel is the best trainer, I just wish I didn't live so far from here! Dying to go back. Great bare-bones gym. The trainers are really invested in you, and very experienced in martial arts workouts. Parking options aren't great, and there wasn't much in the way of locker room options, but honestly, I don't go to the gym for the locker rooms. This place a cheap, but if you want excellent trainers, exciting options, and a motivating environment, this place is worth it.
Fantastic experience: Not your mediocre gym...
Fantastic experience: When I first was looking to move to Chicago – a boxing gym was one of the primary requirements I had followed by location and so forth. Over the last 2 years or so this gym has drastically improved with full changing rooms, lockers, a place to flip tires and so much more! At the same time this gym is perfect for women and men. Plenty of classes where it’s a mixture of both. To add on – a lot of legitimate boxers come here to train and it’s fun to see what you could be one day. The owner and staff are really nice to everyone and coming here feels like everyone after time knows your name. Coming here is like joining a new family that all support you. They also have a lot of trainers available if you want a one on one but at the same time those trainers have no problem to just give you a couple tips here and there. They are looking to enhance the gym even more. The downstairs is fantastic as well – so much room and at feels often like you have the space all to yourself! They are pushing for more cross fit options and classes. Overall if you would like to work out and actually learn to box (not just hit a bag for the sake of cardio) this is your gym. I have tried many and this wins by far none!
Fantastic experience: Just to keep things updated. Moving a block away to a new location was a difficult transition and added new obstacles but overall was a blessing. With the new facility there are locker rooms with full showers, changing area, plenty of lockers, and the place is nicely temperature controlled with heat and AC. For working out there are all the heavy bags a boxer could want and its and olympic lifters dream with 122 ft of lifting rigs throughout, as well as rowers, air dyne bikes, and various cardio and weight machines.
