Fantastic experience: This is my new YMCA branch, and I love it! They have excellent equipment, and great people. Much better than downtown anyway! Anyway come to Mary Free Bed you’ll love it!!

Fantastic experience: My 2 year old loves going to Toddler Time every Wednesday at Mary Free Bed! I have also had great experiences doing yoga and pool exercise classes there. I appreciate that MFB puts a focus on accessibility as well.

Fantastic experience: This is an amazing location. Has a chapel, two sets of pools, volley ball, basketball, workout and education center indoors. Then it has outdoor fields for baseball and soccer! This place is warm and welcoming.

Negative experience: One of employees shouted at me and a friend to MOVE! Courts then the employee played there with someone after we left because they wanted a hoop by themselves since the courts were busy. Disrespectful how he shouted at us and not professional to do that

You have access to personal trainers who can demonstrate all the strength training equipment. Overall a well designed place to help you improve your health.

Fantastic experience: I love this gym. Very inclusive with wheelchair and i love their classes. The biggest thing that keep me staying at a Y branch vs other places were group fitness + access to pools. Another perk is that i can visit other cities Y branch without paying extra fees.

Fantastic experience: The wide open, well-ventilated weight and fitness machine space, 1/5 mile track, yoga classes and sauna/ jacuzzi are why I go to the Mary Fee Bed Y. Absolutely love it!

Negative experience: Great facility Staff at front desk could be more inviting at times Basketball courts need to be taken care of better; they resurfaced them no too long ago but have no plan on maintaining them Only a matter of time before someone falls or gets injured I refuse to wear my good shoes here because the courts are so bad I even see kids wiping the courts on their own smh

Fantastic experience: I come here to hoop with friends all the time. There is always runs to join, and usually an open basket if you just want to shoot around. Also they've got a ton of workout equipment, pools, and room for people to do any type of workout they want.

Fantastic experience: I love the variety of equipment, the knowledge of the trainers, the variety of classes available, I love the pool, I love the hot tub, I love the sauna, I love the showers, I love the hours it is open, I don't love the fact I have to drive so far for a good facility as I live in Lowell, MI and that facility is too small, full of teenagers, way too small, too little equipment choices, not enough classes. YMCA.org paid WAY TOO MUCH for the Lowell facility and I am really disappointed in the board for wasting the Wege Foundation money on this.

Fantastic experience: One of my favorite Ys, it is always clean and has friendly staff. There is adequate weightlifting equipment for any excerise you wish to perform. The track is long enough where you don't feel like you're running around in circles.

Fantastic experience: The layout of the free weight area is great! I was asked about five years ago what I wanted to see improved, I said have a designated dead lift areas , squat rack areas and more flat , incline and decline benching areas and the YMCAs put into action what I told them. I said it would draw in serious lifters , women and men and would generate a lot more business. I'm glad they listened and that it has helped them business wise and financially.

Fantastic experience: I love the location it's close to 28th street and when your done working out and starving for a nice healthy meal it's close food nearby. The facilities have a hot tub, a sauna, very nice size family pool, and lap pool these are the best. The classes and programs made available are awesome as well.

Fantastic experience: My daughter has enjoyed ballet at the YMCA. She has a great teacher and is making friends. I love the flexibility of signing up for just a 4 week class at a time. Most dance studios have expensive registration fees and classes are held multiple times a week. The preschool dance class at the Y is just our speed.

Fantastic experience: Been going to this facility primarily since December 2023. Facility is clean, plenty of wipe stations throughout the weight floor, of the classes I’ve attended the instructors are friendly, encouraging and energetic (love pool aerobics). There is a family locker room with multiple shower/changing rooms. I’ve actually seen someone wiping down the lockers in the women’s locker room. The track is in great shape and I use often; I’ve gone at different times of day and never had any issues. Overall, I enjoy this facility and maintain a current membership.

Negative experience: I'm afraid the YMCA has just gotten too woke for me. They care more about pronouns and calling women, men and men women. Then they actually care about the kids. I'll be taking my business somewhere else.

Negative experience: Updated 3/24/24 Guess what everyone, things have not gotten better. We now pay $108 a month vs just $70 a couple years back. The weight area has been slightly adjusted, but still lacking space. It is busy a lot with weight lifters, but good thing we have 5 full size basketball courts being utilized by 10 people. They need to have several of the same machines to use during peak times to help with crowding. No towels still, probably never coming back. Lastly, please have different payment tiers for services utilized. Why are prices the same for people with no children who will never utilize the kid zone? Overall you are paying $108 for 2 people to be over crowded and get less features than pre covid. Also this review is written prior to the Soccer stadium being build downtown, so who knows how bad this place will get once that gets up and going. They DID ADJUST HOURS slightly, but for the price point being paid, it should be better hours. They are packed by 1030 (after opening at 10 on Sundays). Perhaps that shows there is demand for a earlier open? YMCA, please bring the towels back. I can sit in a sauna within 8 inches of someone, but no towels? The hours are just not great for paying $70 monthly. Sunday's look like a black Friday rush inside which shows you the demand is there. 9-4 or 10-4 seem much more reasonable. Stay open till 9pm on weekdays for after work.,

Fantastic experience: This is the driest Y in GR. I love the giant fans. My wife loves the big track that goes around everything.

Negative experience: The pandemic is effectively over, yet they haven’t changed their hours back and towel service is still gone. Meanwhile, the prices have increased. The value has gone down significantly. Replying to YMCA: So, are you saying towel service was unhygienic when it was offered in the past, or are you saying that was the perception? I don’t know anyone who thought those towels weren’t bleached to oblivion. Ya know what’s actually unhygienic? People without towels, dripping bodily fluids onto all the machines and equipment. You guys need to use common sense. Oh yah, quite the coincidence that it happened to save you money.

Fantastic experience: I've had an exceptional experience at the Mary Freebird YMCA. The staff's professionalism, cordiality, and helpfulness have exceeded my expectations. The facility's cleanliness and order, coupled with the positive and inspirational energy, make it a standout. I would highly recommend Mary Free Bed YMCA to friends and family.

Positive experience: Love this place but sometimes I consider switching to MVP. 1pm is a terrible time to clean the men’s sauna and last time I was kicked out, the guy did a less than thorough job of “cleaning” it, he was done in less than 5 minutes. I’ve also experienced very dirty basketball floors during the day. And, I’ve also experienced not being able to shoot baskets during the ‘open gym’ time because others were using it for pickleball. One of the employees said to me “I can’t justify 1 person wanting to shoot baskets over other people playing pickle ball”.

Fantastic experience: We love how family friendly this gym is. Everyone can find something to do. We love the indoor track for walking/ running/ stroller walking especially in the winters!! The classes are great and welcoming. We also love how welcoming the gym is for those with any kind of disabilities. It’s a great community gathering place for a better active lifestyle!!

Positive experience: This is the second time in a row I have come here and the hot tub isn’t working. I have to use the hot tub for my physical therapy and this is not worth me coming here.

Fantastic experience: The Y is a great place - great friendly members and staff, lots of great classes and equipment, lots of locations. And they give back to the community.

Fantastic experience: Come here mostly for the running/walking track which is so great to have during these snowy times. Do wish they had some more convenient times for cycling classes. Otherwise, love to workout here.

Negative experience: At first it was a great fun place until this lady came up to my kids and told them they were not aloud to be in the pool without an adult in the pool with them. Then my kids explained to her they had a wristband and that I was exercising. She then kicked them out of the pool and told them they could not go in the family pool either. She was very rude to my kids and I will be canceling my membership now.

Positive experience: My family and i have been coming here for years, and most of the staff are amazing! It is a great place to work out with a huge variety of equipment and programs. It is not only great for families, but for all ages! I would give 5 stars but after using the pool today, i have to rate a little lower. After my workout I decided to use the hottub to relax for 30 minutes before kid zone times ended. ( I don't go into the pool alot without my 3 kids). I expected to relax and enjoy myself for a short time in the hot tub, but while I was in there i got talking normally to a couple of adults. We got "hushed" at more than once (instructor included) because there was a class going. We were treated like children, nonetheless. We were talking normally, as we should be able to!! I understand you have a class going on, but I pay the same amount, or more, then the people in that class. This was my relax TIME (and p.t. healing time!). If people aren't allowed to talk, then maybe you should close the hot tub while classes are going on, so the rudeness from the instructor and a couple of the people in the class stops! Maybe get a microphone. There is a variety of solutions to solve this issue. This was a huge turn off! Fantastic experience: I love the YMCA! It feels like a community, not just a place for wellness and fitness. The good hearted nature of the staff and the people who attend make it a pleasure to go! The free Schuil’s coffee is a nice treat too!

Fantastic experience: Great facility! Very clean work out areas and restrooms. Only areas of improvement I could mention are a more concise pool schedule. Many times it says "open" for the family pool but there is a class in their taking up the majority of the space. If they could indicate that on the family pool schedule it would help! I love going every morning, it's my favorite part of the day!!
