Atilis Gym, Ocean City

Negative experience: I cannot understand why people give this gym a 4 star rating. This gym needs a major facelift and overhaul as one member mentioned. While the cardio machines are newer, I have to agree that much of the equipment being very old with some machines being broken (see attached pics). In addition the carpeting has stains and looks like it was never replaced from the day the gym opened. I recently joined the Ocean City community center, which has newer and more equipment and is very clean. On the positive side, the two young men who are at the counter are very friendly and helpful. Overall, I would not recommend Atilis as a first choice gym to go to in town. Instead, check out the community center before joining to compare the two. To the owner/manager of Atilis, please do not respond to this post as to why these issues were not brought to your attention, as the pics reflect these issues are not something new. I would recommend that you walk the gym everyday to make sure the equipment is operable, the gym is clean, and determine what needs to be replaced (ie; carpeting and broken plates).

Fantastic experience: I was on vacation at Ocean City, NJ and needed a one week membership. I found this gym within a few blocks of my hotel and liked what I saw. Casey introduced herself, gave me a tour and signed me up for a one week membership. She was very friendly, informative and helpful. This gym had all of the free weights, machines and cardio equipment to accomodate my daily routine without skipping a beat. I met the owner, Brandon, chatted with him a bit and found him to be a decent person. He runs a good operation. I loved the atmosphere, and I am planning to sign up for a one week membership again next summer while on vacation. I highly recommend this gym.

Positive experience: I really enjoyed this gym ! Everything about it was great .. has just what you need for a workout. The one thing I did not like is the rags used to wipe down equipment when you are done. It seems very unsanitary for everyone in the gym to be using the same rag over and over. I didn’t want to touch it let alone use it to clean off equipment. The person next to me was sweating profusely all over the stair master and used it to wipe his machine . Now when I finished I had to use the same rag to wipe down mine. Very unsanitary not to have paper towels. The rag could be a science experiment .

Fantastic experience: Fire gym. Solid atmosphere came all the way from Brixton for vacation with family and this gym was perfect.

Fantastic experience: I have worked out at this gym multiple times and every time has been a fantastic experience. The staff is all extremely polite as well as the gym is overall super clean and well organized. A great mixture of old and new school machines/equipment, I absolutely recommend anyone in the Ocean City area you must check out this gym.

Fantastic experience: The Atilis Gym family is one of a kind. If you're looking for an old school gym with an authentic feel and great equipment, this is the gym for you. I've been to the Ocean City gym several times. Although it isn't the biggest Atilis location, it still has everything you need to get in an awesome workout. The owner, Brandon, cares about his members and keeps the gym updated and clean. He's always available for member input, which is rare to see in the gym industry these days. If you're looking for the best spot to get your workout in on the island, this is it!

Negative experience: Went in and it was like nobody was working there. Couldn’t get any help at the front desk to buy a pass. Went to the gym down the street and had no issues

Fantastic experience: Like every location Atillis or any decent gym each has its own persona. This one is laid back and chill in the 2 winter months I trained there while on assignment in the area. A lot of feee weights and old school machines. 3 squat racks, leg press, large dumbbell rack and benches. Like all the Attilas there is redundancy of popular equipment. 3 big cable multi station machines scatter around. It’s not a huge space put its ALL there. Honor system cash box for a huge variety of drinks and snacks. Even had a decent spread of elliptical stair tread cardio dealios.

Negative experience: A machine collapsed when I was on it. A number of other machines are in a marginal state of repair. The bathroom door won’t close completely so people can look on while you do your business. These problems are fixable. They should be addressed. Some machines are nice and the patrons working out there are nice too. A sort of fill in staff member was very helpful and accommodating.

Fantastic experience: Exactly what you need for a gym at the shore. They have all the free weights and machines for a great lifting session, plus plenty of cardio machines. The photos of Arnold around the gym definitely keep you motivated! The staff and regular clients are friendly, and the prices are reasonable. They offer day passes as well as weekly, monthly, and seasonal memberships. Check them out!

Positive experience: Nice gym but you’re sweating from the moment you get in there. Every person is drenched. Everything is fairly old and the machines are all wiped with dirty towels that each person shares with everyone else for their machine. Some air conditioning and paper towels would make a huge difference.

Fantastic experience: This place is awesome. I bought a week pass for the $45ish which is reasonable. This gym is awesome. Old school pictures of Arnold on the walls and all the iron you need for a good workout. It had a mix of hardcore lifters, newcomers and everybody in between. The staff was cordial and i noticed all staff members had rapport with the regulars. It was also very clean. I worked at a Planet Fitness during COVID so my opinion of clean means more than others. I loved the vibe. Yes it was warm but I was never bothered by it. The weight plates are kind of a throwback style and the gym makes you feel like how it was when cellphones weren’t a thing. It enhanced my beach vacation experience. I also bought a shirt and want to wear it forever.

Fantastic experience: my family and I have been coming down to the shore for a few years now but prior to this summer we’ve went to another gym on the island. After hearing a few of my friends talk about the changes and additions that were made this past winter I decided to check them out. Safe to say I won’t be going back to my old gym!! The new paint makes everything look so fresh, the water fountain was defiantly needed, tinted window are a plus for some extra privacy when running on the treadmills, and the POSING ROOM! what other gym has a posing room in the area. I feel like I’m in an actual gym when I walk through the doors, definitely no run of the mill fitness club.

Positive experience: Just finished my first workout here, not bad, quiet for a midday workout. At home I go to Esporta which is much bigger and modern etc., but Atilis is fine for a basic workout. The free weights and related equipment is at least 20 years old but work. (4) Must haves for 4 + stars: (1) Water fountain or water dispenser with cups, both water jugs empty and no paper cups either, (2) need more weight machines, lots of wasted floor space, (3) need paper towels in workout areas, the spray bottles and old towels for wiping equipment isn't very sanitary and who knows when they were last washed, (4) paper towels in bathrooms, both men and women's bathrooms rolls empty. All in all it was fine, $12 for day pass

Fantastic experience: Been coming to Atilis for almost a decade and it’s still one of my favorite gyms. It’s old school, a bit dated, but if you are looking for a place to just throw heavy weight around and you don’t care about sweating quite a bit, this is the place for you…and the community is unmatched.

Positive experience: Gym is not bad. Has everything you need if you’re vacationing for a week. A lot of the equipment is worn and old, especially the dumbbells. It’s also a little pricy-45 dollars for a week pass.

Fantastic experience: It is "the Mecca". For me it is finally getting back to the gym after some years. Atilis was recommended by a friend. Glad I stopped in to check it out. Clean and spacious facility. Easy to get in and get started. Atilis has a great selection of equipment and the right vibe to focus and get inspired. The 24 hours is great and for me allows late afternoon weekend sessions. Thanks to Chris and Staff.

Fantastic experience: Great place. Felt like I walked into a Hall of Fame with all the pictures of legends posted on the walls throughout the gym. The vibe here was cool as well; people came to work not mess around. I was in OCNJ for vacation last week and looked this place up since I was away from my home gym. I called them up and they gave me the run down for a 3 day membership. Went to the front desk and it was easy as pumpkin pie. I forget the young man’s name (white male, bald head, clean cut, stocky/muscular) that worked the desk my few days there but he was super chill and deserves a shout out. Also, the 3 days I did work out there, the owner specifically made an effort to say “Good morning!” to me as I was working out. That goes a long way. I appreciate you guys.

Fantastic experience: From the moment I walked into this gym, I knew this gym was for me. The atmosphere just owns you. The music is great, the plates are metal, and the number of dumbbells can be overwhelming to some. I immediately bought a week pass. The staff is first class, the facility is clean, the equipment is fantastic. For anyone looking to train, and to train seriously, while on vacation, or if you are lucky enough to live "down the shore" Atilis HAS to be your choice. I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner several times while I was training, and let me tell you, you won't find a more personable and welcoming person, at ANY gym. Throughout the week, I trained at various times ranging anywhere from 6 am to 1 pm, and no matter what, every single person in there was polite, and focused on their own fitness. Atilis will be my first stop from now on, so I can get my week pass when I come down every summer.

Fantastic experience: Family vacation time in Ocean City just got better. I train 6 days a week, and usually finding a place to do it can be the hardest part of the day. There is a great vibe in the gym, as soon as you walk through the door, you can tell everyone is here to lift and train hard, building a great atmosphere. This was my first time getting a weekly pass, and I can tell you (in the style of Arnold) I'll be back. Parking can be a little tricky for all the beach goers, so if you are only a mile or 2 away, use the walk or bike rack out front to your advantage as a warm up. Staff is friendly, and every member I've experienced is friendly and humble regardless of skill level, so if you go for cardio, powerlifting, bodybuilding or whatever style you train in, you will feel at home at Atilis Gym.

Fantastic experience: My family visits OC almost every summer. While it's a great place one "challenge" has been finding a gym where I can keep up my workouts. I was delighted to find Atilis gym this summer. It had plenty of the equipment I need (ellipticals) and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly much like my Planet Fitness at home. The desk staff was very nice and made me feel welcome They have very good rates for daily,weekly and monthly visits. Really appreciated the friendliness and consideration shown me so I bought a tshirt (free advert on my part ) The only wrinkle can be finding a place to park depending on the time of day since the gym is on West Ave. and does not have its own lot. No biggie, you just need to be patient. In short for those looking for a gym to keep up their programs away from home this place is a god send!

Positive experience: I spend a week in OCNJ every summer. The past few years, I got a weekly membership at the community center. The weekly membership here is a little bit more expensive, but based on what I saw, the equipment (weights) is much better. When I went in to check it out, the staff was very friendly and helpful. 2017 I'll get a membership here instead. ***update 2017*** This year, while in OC, I got a one-week pass here. I'm happy to say that my previous assessment was accurate and I was not disappointed! Bottom line; if you are serious about training at the Jersey Shore, Atilis is the place to go.

Positive experience: Atilis is a fresh, new, clean gym. Never over crowded. Claire and Maya run a good ship! Lots of space. Clientele is unassuming and kind. Highly recommended.
