Fantastic experience: Carmen at the Arena Club is AMAZING!!! She goes above and beyond for members and people she is working with to become members. She information and very helpful. If I have a question or an issue I go straight to her! If you are thinking about a gym/community membership with Arena Club, she is the person you want to talk to!!! I’m so thankful she was working the night I went in to get information!!!

The Arena Club

Thank you so much for your incredible review! We’re thrilled to hear about your positive experience with Carmen—we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to her. We're so glad she was there to help you and make your visit such a great one. Welcome to the Arena Club community—we’re excited to have you with us!

Negative experience: Very disappointed in this club. Most of the staff is friendly..but the process, contract, and rules must be so unnecessarily complex, and difficult, that they can't relay it properly to the members. We attended for two years and cancelled today after bizarrely rude interactions with staff regarding the addition of our two kids under two. Initially were told we were okay because we were on a "family" plan but at some point that changed. I get added fees for daycare services, etc but none of that was explained to us. This continuous communication gap is why we left. There are more cost effective options in the area that better suit our needs as a family. Wishing your business all the best.

Negative experience: If I could rate this place a 0, I would. We have had a membership with this place for 2 years, which we were informed that it was a family membership. We started taking our first son at 6 months, now 19months to the pool, no problem. We scanned and went on our way. We now have a 3 month old as well which we have been taking him to the pool since last month and same thing. Well today we were stopped by this nasty lady with blonde short hair saying we were not allowed through until we paid for the kids. Of course we were confused since we have not been stopped before and said we had to talk to another member to add the kids. I can understand paying for kids over a certain age like 3 but a 19 month old and a 3 month old , 17.50 each every 2 weeks!? Are you kidding??? Disney doesn't even charge for kids under 3. This place is a waste of money and a joke. I'm surprised it gets the business it does now. If you're a family considering about buying a membership, save yourself the trouble and don't. Go to Disney, your kids are free.

Negative experience: Completely disappointed with Arena club… have been paying every single month … doze it in the winter bc it was a waste… can’t really go now… got emails or texts about 3 times the club was closed because they had no water? But still had to pay… between my hours, my husbands hours, sports, we just don’t go as much as we did last year. Emailed Carmen sent a 30 day notice to cancel my membership and was told I had to get a doctors note ? To cancel? Seriously? That’s the only way you can cancel a gym membership. Pathetic. Teacher not getting paid for the summer and still have to pay for somewhere that limits pool hours due to summer camp pool hours… NOT HAPPY. Arena club is the worst and I’m recommending anyone who asks to stay away from them and asking how I can get out of my contract because this is not fair.

The Arena Club

We’re sorry to hear that you’re disappointed, and we do appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Our goal is always to provide a positive experience for our members.

When you signed up for your membership, you selected and agreed to a 12-month commitment. At the time of enrollment, the terms of your membership—including payment frequency, duration, and cancellation policy—were fully outlined, and a copy of the agreement was provided for your records. Our membership team has also been in communication with you regarding these terms and has been working to address your concerns. It’s important to understand that while you did purchase a full-year membership, how often you choose to use the club is entirely up to you. However, the financial commitment remains valid regardless of usage, as with most annual agreements.

We understand your frustration regarding the brief facility closures. Unfortunately, the water issue that occurred in April was due to a localized municipal outage beyond our control and affected the entire area—not just the Arena Club. We only closed for two short periods totaling less than three hours across both days and our records show that you were not in the facility during those times. We always work hard to minimize any disruption to our members when situations like this arise.

We truly value our members and want everyone to feel that they are receiving value from their membership. If your circumstances change or you’d like to explore options such as placing your membership on a temporary hold, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our membership services team at 410-734-7300.

Fantastic experience: The staff is really great! From the inviting instructors who never make you feel uncomfortable, to the welcoming front desk, to the member services reps like Carmen who is always willing to help with billing, pausing and any questions I ever have. She makes it easy to pause and resume my membership when things come up. A great club all around

We are glad you are enjoying your membership, our classes, and our staff! Thank you so much for your review!

Fantastic experience: When I first took my tour here, I personally did not feel as if this was going to be my home gym. My fiancé and I had second thoughts feeling as if the place wasn’t very welcoming. This is where I give all thanks to one of the sales reps here named Carmen, she took all of that doubt anyway from us with how genuine and patient she was. It almost felt as if she was the owner of the gym with how knowledgeable and understanding she was about any question we asked. She gave us a few days to think on our decision with guest passes, AND check ups on how we were feeling. Then after a few days my fiancé and I decided to become members. We’ve been here for about 4 months now and we love it more and more everyday. None of this would have been possible without the support of Carmen, she truly is a once in a lifetime compassionate soul. If you are thinking of joining ask for Carmen, she won’t disappoint!

Hi Terrell! We are glad you decided to become a member and are enjoying your membership!

Fantastic experience: I give the Arena club 5 stars primarily because of Carmen in membership. Carmen makes the Arena club look good. She has a warm and welcoming personality. She is all about family which is why she made my family and I feel like a part of her family while we were at the Arena club. We normally use the club during the summer months because of the beautiful swimming pools. It has island vibes, great music and the other guests are usually respectful of personal space. So do yourself and your health a favor and go see Carmen. She never pressures and will listen to your needs and work out a plan that hopefully works best for your budget.

Fantastic experience: My son and I have been members since 2017 and still love it. If you look around, they are always trying to update either the programs or equipment for our well being. I usually take fitness classes and unless it is a Les Mills sponsored class, the instructors will ask you for suggestions on body areas to work on or what type of music they can incorporate for you. Many times I've had questions about my workout routine and possible modifications I can do (bad knees) the instructors/trainers take time to demonstrate. They are an excellent resource. My son and I enjoy using the pools during the summer. The water slides and basketball courts are his favorites. You have to wait until the summer camp kids are through in the morning but the counselors and lifeguards make sure the camp kids do not linger. We love it and I do not see any reason to look elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member of the Arena Club for about 9 years now, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to help with any questions or advice, especially my member representative Carmen Duvall. She has always gone above & beyond with any request or issue I’ve had. The facilities are top-notch, with a wide range of equipment that’s always clean and well-maintained. I love the variety of group classes they offer, from high-energy workouts to more relaxing yoga classes, which keeps things interesting and fun. They just started the Les Mills Strength Development class which is AWESOME. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, making it easy to stay motivated and make friends. I highly recommend this health club to anyone looking to improve their fitness in a positive and encouraging environment!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of the Arena Club for seven years, and during that time, Carmen Duvall has gone above and beyond to assist me whenever needed. Even when an issue falls outside of her area of expertise, she either directs me to the right person or takes care of it herself. She is always reliable and incredible helpful. If only every business in Harford County had an efficient and professional employee like Carmen….

Fantastic experience: Carmen is fantastic!! We’ve been members since 2020 and Carmen has always been super responsive and catered to our every request!!! The club has everything from childcare, heated pools, physical therapy, amazing trainers!!! I recommend Erin Wood!! I’ve even had massages there! There’s excellent communication for their members and all staff are always accommodating! The club is clean and the locker rooms are cozy and private, and I enjoy the sauna in the women’s locker room after my workouts! They have before & aftercare for children, camps and swim team, you name it they have it. It’s really an amazing club to be a member of. Thank you ARENA!!

Negative experience: Here are the realities of an Arena Club family membership: This is not a club that prioritizes the traditional member. They will wax poetic to you about the trampoline zone and how it is available for your kids to use and enjoy whilst you workout. What they will neglect to tell you is that you will be sidelined when there is a birthday party reserved. You will also be sidelined when one of the teams from the adjacent community college is practicing (this also restricts you from all the high end sorinex equipment they will pitch you on in that part of the gym). During the summer when you have the highest likelihood to use this area with your children, they will be running a summer camp with dozens of kids. If you don't enroll your children at an additional fee, you will not have access. The reality is, you will not have access to this part of the facility on a very regular basis. The pool arrangement is identically disingenuous. There will be a swim team in the pool during all peak hours restricting lap swim to a single lane for hours at a time while 40+ people are drilling. If you want the pool for much more than recreation during the summer, you will want to bypass the Arena Club. Lastly, I would direct you towards the other 1 star reviews listed here. You will see all you need about their deceptive business practices and lack of cleanliness in the shower and sauna areas (listen for the squish of sweat when you walk into the sauna under the rubberized mats). You will see each of these is answered as though the member is trying to get one over on the facility. They treat the complaints as though each is it's own subjective issue instead of an objective problem with the facility. Take the cleanliness for example they respond to multiple cleanliness gripes with the fact that the use a third party cleaning service (still your responsibility) and have "never" heard anything but positive comments about the cleanliness. I guess that could be true if you are never listening except for the fact that you are writing responses to multiple people, all viewable in the reviews, that you "never" hear anything other than positives about the cleanliness. You will see this same pattern emerge as you read the reviews, multiple people who state they were misled about their contract are treated as though they are individual cases and not symptomatic of more pervasive bad business practices within the facility and leadership. Many of the people that are participating in the misleading of the membership are mentioned by name within these reviews to include the individual who signed up my family. I will leave you to your own research in that regard. This facility is not anywhere near as advertised. I would not recommend it to anyone moving forward. I would and will be driving an additional 15 min one way in the future to avoid this facility. It would be my suggestion you do the same.

The Arena Club

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We sincerely apologize that your experience with us did not meet your expectations. We always aim to provide the best service, and we're truly sorry that we missed the mark this time.
We take all concerns seriously, and we would have loved the opportunity to address your concerns directly while you were with us. We always encourage our members to reach out to our management team during their visit so we can try to resolve any issues in real time. Please feel free to contact us and we'd be happy to discuss your experience further.
We value your business and hope to have the opportunity to make things right in the future.

Fantastic experience: The last year working out at Arena Club has changed my life and my body. I was the most overweight and out of shape I had ever been when I decided to do something about it. A year later, I have dropped 3 sizes, my muscles are firm and I feel great! The instructors are all pros. I love the classes. Everyone is so nice and supportive and the equipment is top notch. I love going for workouts now! Highly recommend this gym!

Fantastic experience: I have had an amazing experience here at the arena club everyone is very nice and helpful. I even hired a personal trainer named Devon who helped me in so many ways. When I started with Devon I was a bit out of sharp and couldn’t do any push-ups or run very well but in the past year or so he has helped me so I can do 21 pushups in 40-45 seconds which has helped me get into the police department I have been trying to get into this year. He also has been helping with pull-ups and getting run faster as well! Thank you Devon!

Fantastic experience: I used to have an issue with working out on my own. Like most people, I have physical issues/limitations that would either get in the way, or I would hurt/pull something and have to stop for a while. I had not maintained a consistent workout program for, well, decades. A little over four years ago, I started personal training with Wendy at the Arena Club. In that time, I can count on one hand the number of times I have had to pause my journey for those kind of things, which is frankly a miracle. I'm down over 40 pounds, stronger than I have been since college and my blood pressure and heart health are vastly improved. Wendy works with and around my limitations on a session by session basis and gets the most out of me without overdoing it. Its the ONLY reason I am at the place I am now and able to continue to get stronger and healthier without hurting myself. Thank you Wendy.

Fantastic experience: I wanted to take the time and write about one of your trainers, Tim Cain. You see, I joined the Arena Club about 6 months ago after being totally bored at a place call PF which I had attending for a number of years. I have always been a fitness nut and have lifted weights, taken martial arts, done long distance running, played competitive golf through college, and generally worked out for over 50 years!! Yes, I'm as old as dirt, BUT since joining The Arena Club and working with Tim Cain 2x per week for approximately 4 months I have developed the strength and stamina needed to stay fit and exceed my personal goals. Tim always pushes me and challenges "my old muscles" to a level most people my age would collapse, but I enjoy it. Please understand he is always conscious of any pain or discomfort and makes sure I am performing the exercise correctly. Never have I walked away with any pulled muscles or joint pain...only exhaustion. Thank you Tim and I look forward to continuing the sessions of "Gain without Pain". J.D.

Negative experience: September 2024 -- My brother-in-law WAS a member of this club but they cancelled his (and my sister's) membership, sent them a letter telling them to never come back. They won't have to worry about that! I called and got the story from my brother-in-law which is more than the managers of this club did. They should have called all of the parties together to get the full story, but instead they opted for the cowardly way, contacting him after he left the club and informing him that their membership was cancelled. He was actually having a private conversation with one of the employees of the club. They knew each other from when this guy worked at Bel Air Athletic Club, would often talk sports, politics, etc. No one was within ear shot but apparently the maintenance man walked past and overheard a political comment he apparently disagreed with. After walking away, he decided to come back and confront my brother-in-law who told him that he wasn't speaking to him and was eavesdropping. The maintenance guy then went to the manager's office, my brother-in-law finished his workout and left. Management SHOULD have called the three of them in to sort things out but instead cancelled their membership. My sister wasn't even in the gym at the time.

Negative experience: If I could give a zero I would. I observed how they treated a member which was degrading and disrespectful. They violated the members rights, a clear violation of the first amendment of freedom of speech. As he calmly and in barely a whisper voiced his opinion about something, it clearly was against management's position. The way she (the manager) treated him was disgusting. I'll never go there again and if someone is thinking about joining, you should try someplace else that will respect you as a person and not treat you like a piece of dirt.

Fantastic experience: Been a member here for two years. Great place to work out and listen to music for an hour. Does the body good. I really had no reason to post a review about them today but having gone through frustration with the terrible service at Tropical Smoothie today, and posting a negative review about them, I wanted to post something nice for a company who deserved it.

I can’t recommend The Arena Club enough.

Fantastic experience: i have had such an amazing experience at the arena club, and if anyone is considering joining i would highly recommend it! they have so many unique amenities that other places do not have, and they are always finding new ways to improve the experience for their members. their staff is always friendly and respectful, the facility, equipment, and pool are always clean, and their new pickle ball courts are so much fun. and for everyone leaving nasty 1 star reviews about their cancellation policy, take this as a valuable life lesson that you should probably read the whole contract before you sign it.

Fantastic experience: A+ Arena Club As a former member of another gym that abruptly closed down, I commend The Arena Club for showing compassion and integrity to the many then-displaced members in our community. We were given very short notice that our club was closing, and The Arena Club quickly welcomed all of us new members with open arms. They went above and beyond by adding new equipment and additional group fitness/Pre-K classes. They even made space for an entire swim team! Over the past 2 years, The Arena Club has provided us with the same high-quality, integrity-driven service we received from day 1. The staff is friendly & helpful; the facilities are clean & exceptionally maintained; we regularly receive club communication via text, email & social media… the list goes on. Best of all is that Arena is a locally-owned and operated business. The owners have provided our community with a beautiful, family-friendly and extremely well-kept facility for over 20 years. In a world where big business has become the norm, it’s a welcome change to see & talk with the owners & know that they care. In my opinion that’s priceless!

Laurie Ann Shelsby 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I've been a member for years and have not had one issue with this club. It's always extremely clean and the staff cannot be any nicer and helpful. The owners have re-invested in the facility all these years and keep the atmosphere updated. The equipment is constantly being replaced and is state-of-the-art. If you are looking to improve your fitness and health, this is the place to do it.

Negative experience: Terrible gym with dishonest, unethical ownership/ management. Believe every single one star review you see, this is how they behave. I can understand the 5 star reviews, when you join and get an OK rate and everything seems new and shiny you might feel that way, but give it time. Once your promo rate falls off and they are blasting you for 100$+ a month per person and you realize how nothing gets repaired or cleaned, you may reconsider, then when you go to quit, they will 100% take you to collections if you were on a contract. Good luck.

Negative experience: So I booked at Birthday Party at the Arena Club for my 5 yr olds birthday. It was supposed to be a pool party. Everyone shows up in bathing suits and cover ups ready to swim. On arrival I went up to the desk to check in and I was told “the pool is closed we are moving you into the Trampoline Room due to rain”. I looked stunned obviously and said “oh I didn’t get a call” the woman told me “oh we would never call”. Our party was 3:30 to 5:30. While I understand “I can’t control the weather” as she said numerous times…. you can control a phone and you could have called. I was TOLD my party that I was paying for was being changed to something I DID NOT WANT. If I wanted a jump party I would have booked it! I was also told when I asked what can be done I have 2 choice's. #1 just proceed as I booked a trampoline party (and we might get to swim if it stops “thundering” which we did not)or #2 pack up and leave and reschedule your pool party. As you might of expected I CANT CHOOSE #2 WHILE I HAVE THE BIRTHDAY KID AT MY SIDE READY FOR HIS PARTY! But if you called…..could have. I was also told it was a good thing they didn’t already have a party scheduled in the Trampoline room cause they’d have no where for us to go lol (guessing they still wouldn’t have called then either). The trampoline area is disgusting and people are working out everywhere. Toddlers running around a gym where people are working out….literally running across the floor pulling weights in the direct line from the table to the trampoline (it’s not people working out fault. It’s managements). Toddlers and weights don’t mix. Kids that aren’t part of the party are in the areas they were supposed to be in ext. It had no a/c in July in a gym where the only thing to do is jump. No communication what so ever. It would have been nice to ACTUALLY HAVE A CHOICE instead of walking in and BEING TOLD this is what we are doing and if you don’t like it oh well. After being told what type of party I was having even though I didn’t want it cause I was never given the choice I was also told they were only going to charge me “member price” on the trampoline party. lol NEVER AGAIN. Fortunately my son just took one for the Arena Club team and didn’t cause a fuss. But me….oh I’m pissed. COMMUNICATION IS KEY!!!!! Use it sometime.

Negative experience: STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY!. I had an extremely disappointing experience at this gym. When selling the membership, they do a great job of concealing the cancellation fee clause and rush you into signing a contract that makes it nearly impossible to cancel. They impose a $200 cancellation fee in addition to two months of membership dues, totaling $500 just to walk away. My desire to cancel stemmed from a disturbing incident in the sauna. An individual, who identified as an Israeli military soldier, was openly bragging about killing Palestinians and expressed intentions to return and commit more violence. As a Muslim, I felt deeply threatened and unsafe. When I brought this to the management's attention and requested either his removal or a fee-free cancellation of my membership to avoid confrontation, they initially promised to resolve the issue and release me from the contract without additional fees. However, I was later blindsided with a court summons for small claims to pay $1,300. This gym clearly supports individuals who espouse genocidal ideologies, making it a dangerous environment for Arabs and Muslims in Harford County. I urge everyone, especially those from these communities, to stay away from this gym. Their lack of accountability and support for such dangerous behavior is appalling. Stay away for your safety and peace of mind. I will see you in court with my lawyer.

Negative experience: STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY! They’ll will charge you 500$ to cancel ( 200$ fee plus two months dues plus you have to prove that you are either moving away or medically incapable of working out) stay away from this old, rusty, moldy, unmaintained expensive gym at all cost. They will take you to court if you don’t pay them. Literally the shadiest people I ever met.

Negative experience: Terrible gym, basically a 15$ a month YMCA that “identifies” as a high end health club with 0 basis. Unclean, unmaintained equipment and facilities, constantly rising rates and a god awful community.

Fantastic experience: It has everything you need. Plenty of amenities and equipment, nice pools, friendly staff. All around great place, with little to no issues.

Negative experience: Well it’s been a year, so time for another rate increase! I wasn’t notified of it (a surprise, again!), but sure enough, it’s happening! I can see how 96$ a month (with “discount”) to use only the weights is not profitable for them. They need the full 100$ to do 0 maintenance or cleaning or improvements, or get new machines or equipment.. Guess this is another way they like to thank 12+ year members.. Over the past week I have asked about 20-25 people if they were notified of the rate increase, about 3 of them got the email, and yes I verified, the rate increase is for everyone. Is this not criminal behavior? How is it legal to just change people's contracts and charge them more without notification? Attached is a picture of the bench in the sauna, at the “high end” 100$ a month (and rising) gym..

Negative experience: I’m updating my review to 2 stars. While I initially had a positive experience—being under 24 and paying under $50/month for access to multiple pools and a solid sauna—I’ve since learned about serious issues with how this gym handles memberships. My aunt, who went through a major life crisis, was unable to cancel her membership and ended up being backcharged hundreds of dollars. That’s not just bad policy—it’s exploitative. It’s starting to feel like this place cares more about locking people into contracts than supporting their health. Compare that to Anytime Fitness in Bel Air—Steve, the owner, runs a much more honest and affordable gym. It’s quieter, cheaper, and while it doesn’t have a sauna or pool, it also doesn’t feel like a trap. The Arena Club facility itself is fine: clean locker rooms, decent pools, nice bathrooms. But the business model seems increasingly off-putting once you look past the surface.

The Arena Club

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Please know that The Arena Club absolutely has policies in place to support members who need to cancel due to medical reasons. While we’re unable to speak to the specifics of your aunt’s situation without more information, we want to assure you that we take medical and hardship requests seriously and do our best to work with members who follow the proper steps outlined in our cancellation policy (which is provided to all members in their agreement at the time of joining).

Negative experience: To preface, the business has great amenities and the staff is friendly. The gym equipment is great. I’ve never had an issue finding equipment to use. However, my boyfriend has been a member of the arena club for years and we signed to add me on the plan. We were not told I could not be taken off the plan. They did not explain anything to us and it wasn’t even written on the couples contract we signed. He went in to take me off because we moved into a place with a gym. I have chronic anxiety and having a gym closer to me was just better for me personally. He was told he could not move down to a solo plan, he could just remove me from the membership and have an empty slot but still have to pay for a couples plan.. he was aware it was a yearly contract and he had to follow through on his year, he just wanted to make it cheaper as he is the only one going to use it. He has been a member with the Arena Club for awhile, the staff knows him! It speaks volumes how this company will treat a long time member. What happened if it was worse case.. we broke up or I had passed away.. extreme scenarios but the worker told him there was absolutely no way he could change the contract but they were able to change the contract from a single to a couples a few months into his own single contract.. that’s shady to me. The contracts with the Arena Club are weird in my opinion. If you are not ONE HUNDRED PERCENT committed, I would not recommend using this business.

Negative experience: Need an adult for a guest

The Arena Club

Hi Lucas - yes, our guest policy states that guests must be accompanied to the club by a current member who is at least age 18 or older on the membership. This is for liability purposes, as we want to ensure that we can provide a safe experience for all of our members. We would love to hear your feedback personally. Negative experience: I sign up for membership and tell me I can add my family anytime but when I come to sign them up it said I need to sign for it 4 months again! Terrible communication!!!

Positive experience: The weekend hours are not great, closing at 4pm is pretty unreasonable for most people and puts undue stress on members. Extended hours would be greatly appreciated and would be a deciding factor in my decision to remain at the arena club or not

The Arena Club

Hi Casey - as of February 4, 2023, we extended our weekend hours to be open 7am-6pm.We would always love to hear your feedback personally. If you would like to share anything with us in the future, please contact us at 410-734-7300 and ask to speak with the manager on duty.

Negative experience: DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY HERE!!! They rip you off. They will sink you in the dirt so low. During a pandemic when everyone is struggling to keep their heads held high they come in to pull you under an drawn you. They are dishonest and could care less about you or anyone who goes there. They say you can cancel but you can’t. It is all a joke to them. I gave them extra money to cancel an they say 2 years later it didn’t happen. Keep your emails and bank records. They are miserable ppl an when they are miserable they make you miserable. They are trash and I will make sure to let everyone know all that goes on there.

The Arena Club

Hi Nicole, we are sorry to hear that your experience at the club did not go as you had hoped. Positive experience: The facility is beautiful and very modern, however, the front desk is a bit rude and sarcastic. Also, with signing up for events, it would be more convenient to sign up online than rather coming in. The kids play center is very nice with a trampoline and sports for children but hours are limited.

Fantastic experience: As a long time member of the BAAC, I was not sure how my transition to the Arena Club would go. My initial interaction was with Bob Martindale. He took the time to show me all aspects of the club and went out of his way to inquire about my fitness needs. Now that I have been a member for 2 weeks I have to say that the Arena Club has exceeded my expectations.

Negative experience: In response to owner: I’m sure I did sign something saying that but how am I supposed to know what I’m signing on a credit card machine that only allows for a signature and does not have space to read any specifics of the contract being signed. Obviously makes it easy to hide stuff like this. I love how I was told one thing by Carmen who was definitely aware of our situation and she did not follow through. Again, I have no physical copy of my contract and never was explained anything like this. Decent gym at best. Machines are typically full. Classes vary from instructor to instructor so one day you have a great class and the next it’s awful. Bathrooms are disgusting. Parking sucks when it’s busy. Pools are constantly dirty. When we signed up, we told the membership lady that we would be moving in a few months, and she put a clause in our contract about this. I was never informed in the details, assuming they would be honest at best. Fast forward to when we move and looks like I have to keep the contact for another 5 months. Or I can transfer my membership for $40 to ‘someone on Facebook Marketplace’. Beware, you cannot get out of your contact and don’t trust them.

The Arena Club

Hello,We have researched your account and all notes pertaining to your account and have nothing stated that an addendum request was made at the time of joining. All sales involved also confirmed there was no addendum at point of sale with regards to moving. We are always happy to do that upon request and we also make all documentation of it at the time as well and we always give the member a copy for their records. I will be happy to honor that request if you can provide us with the documentation that would have been give to you at the time of joining. It is very unfortunate to see a bad review solely because our staff was enforcing policy which all members agree to at the time of joining as well as signing off on those policies in two separate locations of their agreement. We receive nothing but compliments about how clean our club is. We have been using an outsourced company for 10 plus years and they have nothing but 5 star reviews. Are pools are vacuumed three times a day minimum and more if and when needed; again never receiving a complaint about our pools as well. Our classes do offer various instructors and each member has their favorite for many reasons however overall our team consists of highly experienced instructors in the industry and are applauded daily.Again if your real complaint is solely us holding to policy with regards to an agreement that you signed off on I am sorry that you feel this way. Once again if you can provide proof of move and pay the early term fee we are more then happy to work with you and release you from your obligation.

Fantastic experience: We have lived in Harford County for decades. We finally chose to join the Areana Club. The pool area, pickle-ball courts, classes, hot tub, equipment are all wonderful. It is obvious that this is a family owned business. Every area is so clean & cared for. All of the staff are so kind & professional. We just spent Father’s Day here with our three adult kids. We had the best day running into old friends & meeting new ones. We are excited to enjoy this wonderful club and so grateful for all the thought & love that has obviously gone into owning & operating it

You hit the nail on the head! Our owners work diligently to try and provide the best possible service to our members! We will give a shout out to our Bayside crew who do a tremendous job of keeping our Club clean!

Negative experience: I joined the gym January of this year, I have found that this gym is a little farther away from my house and not a good fit for my schedule. I asked what the cost would be cancel my membership, understanding that having the membership less than a year would be early termination. Canceling is apparently not an option, I am a prisoner or the arena club until I complete my year sentence. Sadly inmates get treated better for good behavior. This is ridiculous, be very careful before signing your life away to this gym!!!!

The Arena Club

Hi, thank you for sharing your feedback. We do ask our members to enter into an agreement which outlines all of our membership policies and guidelines with a signature and initials in several locations. Additionally, all members are provided a copy of signed agreement at the time of joining. We do have some options for membership changes, if you have concerns about your membership, please contact one of our Membership Representatives. We would love the opportunity to personally address any concerns you have and try to help improve your experience with us.

Fantastic experience: Love this place and all the employees! I had been a member of a Cycling Studio that closed. I was so bummed, but a group of us decided to check out the Arena. Their sales rep, Carmen, met with us the next night and gave us all the time we needed to answer every question we had. Carmen even had a special spin class for all of us so we could check out the bikes and the style of the class. Their monthly dues are less than the Studio and I get so much more! Every employee I have talked to there has always been helpful and NICE. I even asked once if they have to pass a nice test to be hired. Its been over a year, and have never regretted joining. Call, go in, ask for Carmen. Glad I did!

Thank you so much Jeanne for taking the time to write such a glowing review of The Arena Club, our Cycle classes and the high level of Service Carmen was able to provide to you! Have a great rest of your day!

Negative experience: Extremely pricey for what you actually get. Let me start by saying there was a sweaty young guy working out (all over the weight area) with bare feet no socks. His entire workout. Don’t get me wrong I understand taking your shoes off at a squat rack while still wearing socks to do squats but walking back and forth all over the gym, getting water, and using different machines with NO SOCKS…come on that’s just disgusting. Even though you have access the the basketball court, trampoline jump area, pool they are constantly being closed for “cleaning”, birthday parties, or volleyball practice, field hockey or games. There is a very VERY short window which is always an inconvenient time that you can actually have access to these things. How can you charge people so much then rent out the space to make more money it’s just crazy. Definitely not a welcoming “club” feeling at this place. It’s a shame because it has potential. Also there are these odd daycare rule, hours, ages. Just BEWARE and talk to more than a couple people before you decide to join. There are all these odd rules posted everywhere which no one even enforces. If this gym didn’t make you sign a year contract you would have a lot of people leaving after their first month or two of joining. Even the women’s and men’s sauna very small, always packed, never enough room. Even when you get in to the sauna you can’t adjust the heat to make it hot enough to reap the health benefits. Just a waste of space. This place has ZERO mirrors as well. Correction* they have some “half” mirrors which if you under the height of 5’10” you probably won’t be able to see any of your workouts. No mirrors for squats on any squat rack. Think about that when you tour the place and imagine doing weightlifting with no mirrors. Yes, weightlifting with no mirrors….insane.

Negative experience: They advertise a basketball court but you cannot use it on weekdays due to Volleyball practice. It's only available on weekends and while it's available they are throwing kids birthday parties which makes it impossible to actually use it properly. They also don't allow you to use the outdoor facility as it's only for sports. With the amount of money you pay for a membership it would be nice if everything you are paying for was actually available.

The Arena Club

Hi Matt, our Sport Court currently has open availability on select weekday evenings and will soon have additional availability beginning later this month. The Arena Sports Factory is a separate facility from the club with it's own programs and services, therefore it is only accessible to our members through select group fitness classes and/or programs. We would love to hear your feedback personally. If you are open to sharing with us, please contact us at 410-734-7300 and ask to speak with the manager on duty.

Negative experience: Overpriced. Gym for retirees not anyone serious about their fitness. If there was anything better we would leave. No mirrors in dead lift area. Hours are embarrassingly early for what we pay. 4pm on the weekends? Sorry if you have a job. I’m paying for classes I don’t take. The pools are a scam. A swim team uses the only lap pool 6 nights a week for 3 hours 530-830pm ALL YEAR ROUND. Sorry if you wanted to swim. The big pool with the slide is great for families except it doesn’t open until 3pm in the summer. Did it not occur to them parents have kids all day in the summer? For what they charge they could hire more lifeguards. Dont look too closely at the floors, they’re pretty nasty for a gym that charges over $100 a month. Child care is extra and even more limited on hours. Wish HarCo had better gyms.

Fantastic experience: The Arena Club in Churchville, the staff are amazing from sales all the way through. Carmen Duvall, went above and beyond for our group of over 20 people who wanted to spin together when our studio closed in January 2022. We came to the Arena Club and she met with us, discussed all our options and gave us such positive service. She is so kind and caring! I had to put my membership on hold in December 2022 and they did not charge me at all to freeze the account while my leg healed from an injury- no questions asked. Then there are all the instructors we deal with in spin and throughout the club. They are always so fun, great classes and so supportive. This place is a true family atmosphere! Love The Arena Club and couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

The Arena Club

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to write such a glowing review of our business and the high level of service you have experienced during your time with us. We hope you have a great rest of your day!

Mandy 2 years ago

Negative experience: Joined when BAAC closed. Tried super hard to like it and make it work for our family. The amenities they offer for children were never available for use, other than super small time frames each day. Our kids never really got to the use the trampoline. Childcare options were very limited on weekends. Sundays they didn’t even have arena kids, so older kids sit in front of video games while you work out. They don’t do a good job of optimizing their facilities for members. If there is a sporting event or birthday party, members are just out of luck! When the dome is up, the only option for older kids to swim and have fun, is the therapy pool. If your kid makes the slightest splash or loud noise, they are given dirty looks by those using the pool. Which I totally understand, (it’s annoying for those getting therapy) and there should be another option. Another way the facilities aren’t being utilized properly. They have a whole lap pool that could be divided during wintertime, for recreational swimming. They also pulled some shady contract on us. We signed up month to month (which was what we assumed) we signed a contract that said one thing (no term or commitment) and then when we went to cancel, we were given an altered version of our contract. They changed it after we had signed it. Thought that was not good business and I heard they did that to a lot of people. Also saw lots of reviews on here from many people over the years complaining about how they deceived them into an annual contact without their knowledge, so it seems to be a regular thing for this place. I was not pleased with the level of customer service I was met with whenever I had a concern or complaint. The locker room is always full of puddles from people coming in from the pool. They have signs up about toweling off, but people don’t listen. They also always have little boys that are way too old coming into the ladies' lockers room. The showers are super small, stink like sewer and are full of hair. Whenever I voiced any complaint, I was not treated nicely by any member of the staff. I know some people really enjoy the arena club. I’m not sure how? The whole vibe in the place was not welcoming or fun! For single people or married people without kids maybe it’s the vibe you’re looking for?

The Arena Club

Hello Mandy,I am the GM here at the Arena Club, and I would love the opportunity to get your full name so that I have the opportunity to contact you and discuss all of your views below. I was not able to find a Mandy in our membership database to contact you directly.I will first address when you joined the Arena Club back when BAAC closed. When you, along with several other hundred members, joined the club, we welcomed each and every one of you with open arms and did our very best to accommodate the influx coming through our doors. We were excited to marry these new members with our already existing loyal membership base, which we have served for over twenty years. The first thing we did within two weeks of everyone coming over was to identify and list all the things that would be needed to serve the additional members and to do that without causing any impact to our current membership base. Our additional investment and commitment was a million dollars. We added cardio and weight training equipment, additional group ex classes, extended hours, increased staffing, and much more to accommodate and continue our level of service. I will fast forward to the end of May, when some of the BAAC members began to question their agreements and were looking for ways to get out, and based upon your comments, it seems to me that you committed to the 12 month agreement. I am gathering once you were told by staff about your obligation to those 12 months that you committed to, it then became a question of what you were or were not told at point of sale. We provide all of our membership options right on line as well as a join on line option; any questions about our membership options can be clarified just by reading what is right there on our website for anyone to read.  There is no "shady" contract or deceitfulness on any level; it is all spelled out. The contract is presented and spelled out at point of sale as well, and it requires all parties to sign and also reiterates terms on the back of the contract, which also requires an additional initial and sign from the member joining. We have one contract that we use and only one, so there could never be an "altered" contract, and to be honest, to be accused of that is absolute slander. Due to the fact that the business committed to such a large capital investment based on the total number of memberships sold, we must hold those members accountable to us as well.In regards to your other opinions, I will separate them out and address:• Childcare: We offer nursery hours seven days a week and tots and kids classes six days a week. I challenge you to compare services in the area with our competition, and you or anyone else will see we offer the most to our membership. We have never offered Arena Kids on Sundays due to low numbers, but we do offer it six days a week.• Trampoline: We offer open family jump times daily to our members; based on season, it varies from 45 -100 hrs. a week of availability to our membership.• Birthday Parties: We only offer parties to members during prime season and guests during non-season times only; this is to protect the membership; all party offerings do not start until the closing of the club to not interfere with membership.•Dome Up: Members kids have access to the lap, therapy, and beach pools when the dome is up.•Locker Rooms: We have a maximum age limit that is appropriate for children to enter the locker rooms with an adult. We also provide private family changing rooms.•Cleanliness: Our club is known for how clean it is, and we NEVER receive any negative feedback from anyone on the cleanliness of our showers or anywhere else in our club. We have a full-time contracted cleaning service with a stellar reputation that we use year-round, both during club hours and overnight. We are proud of our reputation when it comes to the cleanliness of this facility. We pride ourselves on customer service and always putting our members first.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I have been members of the Arena Club for over a year now upon moving to the area. The gym offers good space with an excellent selection of cardio, strength training, and free weight equipment. Having TVs on the treadmills and elliptical machines is a great feature! The indoor field area is also a great space to use when it's not hosting sports camps and training sessions. I have had the pleasure of working with a personal trainer, Jack, while a member. The variety of traditional work outs coupled with unique "on field" training utilizing similar equipment and methods that the pro athletes use really makes the personal training work the money and is a great variety. The locker rooms have been updated and the facility in general is kept clean and well maintained. Like any gym, it can get crowded in the evenings, especially at the start of the new year, but in general I've never had a problem with not getting on equipment or lack of space. Great place and worth the investment!

The Arena Club

Sean -Thanks for your great feedback! We are glad you are enjoying our indoor fields and personal training. Our trainers aim to provide unique and individualized workouts that allow you to have FUN and see results. We are glad to hear that you feel value from your training sessions and are making progress towards your goals! Keep up the great work and thanks for your nice comments about our club!

Fantastic experience: The Arena Club is a fun place to work out. I am a 15 year old boy, and I can workout here with no problems at all. This is the first place in the last two year that I can go out, and not get yelled at saying I'm too young. On top of that, the other things besides the gym are just as nice. The indoor field is outstanding and has many activities for adults and children. The pool is great as well. It has two slides, a great area to move around, a outdoor basketball court, volleyball area, and all around is a great place to have fun and relax. The trainers are outstanding and help you so much! The staff workers are always nice, friendly, and when you need help there always there for you. The Arena Club is AWESOME!!!

Fantastic experience: Recently, my wife & I joined the Arena Club. We have found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. My wife had 2 personal training sessions with Nicole and she is an awesome teacher. My goal was the "hot tub" as I have a bad knee and back pain at times. I was instructed on the machines and enjoy the workout. I also always warm up as I have been instructed. I exercise in the therapy pool, head to the hot tub and get into the sauna. The newly decorated locker rooms are great. Also I really enjoyed breakfast on the day of the 10th Anniversary. I look forward to doing some classes with my wife, especially Yoga Flex!

Fantastic experience: I like it here. Carmen is so helpful, really. The staff is friendly and the place is always so clean. People are generally nice. Negative experience: They charge you 200 dollars plus a whole month after you cancel. Even when you had a unexpected need to cancel.

The Arena Club

We are sorry to hear that you decided to cancel your membership and do understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances do arise and offer flexible options and allow freezing/pausing memberships. As common practice with most membership-based organizations, we do have some policies for early termination which are explained at the time of joining and require both signing and initialing by those polices. Thank you again for your feedback, we do take all comments to heart and appreciate you sharing your concerns with us.

Negative experience: Horrible hours (used to be open later), take forever to replace or repair equipment, and raised their rates for membership for less service.

The Arena Club

Hi Casey - as of February 4, 2023, we extended our weekend hours to be open 7am-6pm. This year, we also have invested in all-new high-tech Technogym cardio equipment. We would always love to hear your feedback personally. Negative experience: Hides prices for membership. I am not calling to find out the cost of a monthly membership.

The Arena Club

Hi Jonathan, the Arena Club has a variety of options for membership. We offer membership types that focus on different goals, vary in lengths of commitment, and offer flexible options for adding family members. It is always best to contact us to learn about the various options so you have all the information to make the best decision for what membership type will work for you. With that being said, we do offer some of our most popular memberships online and prices are fully listed for those.

Negative experience: Deceptive sales practices! Carmen Duvall mislead us every step of the way. We have text messages from her before we signed the contract saying we absolutely can join for the summer. She said no problem, all you have to do is put your membership on hold. THIS IS A LIE!!!! You can only do this after you have been a member for a year! This wasn't explained to us. I will say it again, very deceptive!!!! She still doesn't acknowledge the text messages. The Arena Club should do the right thing and stand by what their sales reps say to get someone to sign a contract. Not hide behind the small print and avoid telling potential new members the truth before they sign up! BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES!!

The Arena Club

Hi Dawn, we are sorry to hear that your joining experience did not go as you had hoped. We are always looking for ways to improve and make each and every experience associated with the club a positive one.

Kevin D 3 years ago

Negative experience: Signing up for this club is like the most painful experience I have ever had with any vendor. If I could leave zero starts I would. Their only concern is to get you to sign a contract and then trap you into paying every month. Ask for any small change and the answer is yes prior to signing but after they won't even return your calls. Unprofessional and rude. I won't rejoin when my contract expires.

The Arena Club

Hi Kevin, we are sorry to hear that your joining experience did not go as you had hoped. We would love to hear your feedback personally. If you are open to sharing with us, please contact us at 410-734-7300 and ask to speak with the manager on duty.

Grant Krulock 3 years ago

Positive experience: Over the years it has declined. The free weight area layout was changed a couple years ago and everyone is now on top of each other. The racks are situated in front of several benches and dumbbell racks so you’re distracted by everyone in front of you. And the equipment never gets repaired in a timely manner. Almost 3 months!!! Considering the age of some pieces of equipment it’s time it gets replaced.

The Arena Club

Hi Grant - We would always love to hear your feedback personally. If you would like to share anything with us in the future, please contact us at 410-734-7300 and ask to speak with our wellness director or a manager on duty.

Negative experience: Wanted to join for only the summer and was told Absolutely yes. However when joining they signed us up for an entire year and won't release us from the contract. Carmen Duvall is who we worked with. Carmen is a liar and won't admit that she made a mistake. Don't deal with this club on any level. Look someplace else as it's also packed in the summer and the therapy pool is a joke. I would not recommend this gym to anyone for the price. Stop reading this and join another club that will treat you with respect and has better equipment and instructors. Carmen Duvall is doing a disservice to the owners of this gym. Carmen Duvall is a liar.

Negative experience: I had a birthday party for my daughter here and i will never ever recommend this place to anyone. The party was rushed and the staff was very rude to my guest. I feel like its a big rip off for all the money they charge for a kids birthday party just to feel rushed. So please read reviews before booking a party. This was my first time here and i thought i would give it a try. They treat guest very rude and nasty. ( they wouldn't even let a child change there wet clothes). I give this place 0 stars. Terrible service. Also stating me and my guest were yelling at staff ( was a lie) but then act all nice in my face. I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK!!!!!! TERRIBLE STAFF THAT HOST PARTY'S AND ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY. ( SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE RACIST AS WELL) i just wanted to share my experience here. Also I have plenty of witnesses that stated NO ONE was yelling at the staff. I also heard one of my guest couldn’t even use the bathroom when first walked in. That is not right and no one should be treated in that way. The kids couldn’t even change clothes I have multiple complaints about that. You don’t take peoples money and miss treat the guest. That is also embarrassing on my end rushing everyone out. I also heard multiple complaints that members and staff were looking at my guest as if what are we doing here. I PAID ALOT OF MONEY for this party to be treated wrong because we are not members. What a waste of money. Thank you

The Arena Club

Hello Alicia,We are sorry to hear that you feel this way. We did receive this review only after our management team notified you that you would not be allowed back to our facility based off of the outcome of your visit with us. This decision was made after management was notified by staff that you and your guests had broken multiple rules and policies that were provided to you when signing our rental contract and had disrespected what was being enforced. All of this was reinforced by several team members and member accounts of the event as well as video footage of a car driving across our pickleball court. We book back to back parties and do have to clear the party area for the next event. We gave additional time to your guests by offering another location of the facility while we prepared the party areas for the next event scheduled. Only when our staff was being ignored after telling all guests the event had ended and all must leave did our staff enforce the rules and try to move things along. The two staff the hosted the party are well seasoned team members who have been with us for over ten years. We have never had a complaint about them nor have they ever been accused of mistreating any members or guests at our club. The manager on duty that needed to be called to the event because it was getting out of hand and our front line team could no longer handle the situation has been with us over 15 years and we have yet to receive any negative feedback or comment about him. We have been in business since 2003 and we have NEVER been accused of racism. We take the accusation very seriously and if you had truly observed our membership and employees your comments about racism would be unfounded.

Fantastic experience: My husband, myself and our family became members of The Arena Club during the pandemic. I was 100% against it, but began to love it since it offered child care as I worked out. I’m going to tell you the truth, we would move back to Maryland in a heartbeat to be back at The Arena Club. We PCS’d to Savannah, GA and there is absolutely nothing that can compare. We’re stuck with dingy looking gyms they don’t even offer half of what The Arena Club offers. Yes, it is pricey. But let’s compare their amenities to other gyms within the area - space, physical therapy, indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, child care, preschool, their own clothing, trampoline park, basketball court, classes, etc! The list goes on. Now let’s go onto the family I developed while being members there. Everyone, legit everyone, became family! The members, the employees, and child care staff. We miss and so desperately want our child care employees back. We loved utilizing their parents evening out program. But everyone cared for our children as if they were their own. The front desk employees are beyond phenomenal as well. I miss seeing their smiling faces and recognizing who we are. The facility is clean! It’s modern, up-to-date, and simply clean! Hard to find a clean gym! It was never crowded, never too loud, and there was never a time where a machine was “out of order.” My husband and I miss The Arena Club so much that we are trying to come up with an idea for how we can develop something similar, but with our own ideas, in the Georgia/ South Carolina area. Cause good lord, we need it down here! So if the owner is reading this, please reach out! We miss y’all!

Fantastic experience: The Arena Club seems to meet or exceed our expectations. We have been members for about two weeks and are extremely satisfied with the service. Since we live about 12 miles away we need to coincide our visits with out trips to Bel Air.

Fantastic experience: The Arena Club has been an important part of my life since the club opened about 20 years ago. I encourage you to visit their website for a more comprehensive look - the instructors, equipment, programs, cleanliness, staff.. all top notch. Its too much info for a review. So this quick summary features what is important for me. I love that classes include real-time MyZone effort and stats. The MyZone heart monitor option is an important fitness tool for me (see stock model photo demonstrating how it is worn). After my challenging workout I get rewarded with the hot tub and therapy pool, which are kept in pristine condition. People of all shapes, sizes, levels of fitness and ages will feel at home in this facility which is way more than any gym.

Fantastic experience: I used to work at the Arena Club and recently just became a member again and love it . The classes and trainers are amazing. Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable. I love Shaunna and have done personal training with her! The equipment is such high quality and I feel so comfortable walking in. I've met tons of people throughout my time there already and nobody judges! It's made healthy habits so much easier and fun!

Negative experience: They have a therapy pool which was why a joined and the hot tub, but dealing with the so called instructions for tea hung swim in the pool is bull, they are barely out of high school and .most likely not certified as and lifeguard or a wSI water safety instructor I'm contacting the local red cross association, ask I will be terminating my membership in two months

The Arena Club

Hi Jerry - thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Please know that our lifeguards and swim instructors are absolutely certified. Our aquatics director will be contacting you personally to further understand your concerns and address any questions you may have.

Positive experience: I love the areana club - but I am concerned about the mask policy. I have asked several people who were working out very close to me to put their mask on and they refused. With the number of infections going up at alarming rate I think you need to update the mask policy. Ben Scanlon

Negative experience: Pre-covid review, but not any better during covid, tbh: The only thing that saves this gym is the somewhat decent equipment, which you have trouble using because there’s so many people squished into a small area. They’re quite pushy to get you to agree to the year but don’t tell you that you even have to pay a cancellation fee if you have to move or are ill. They do not provide all of the contract info, nor do they say that the contract is not time specific to them, but payment amount. They also push for personal training (a solid portion of the main floor of the gym is dedicated purely to personal training clients), training can be helpful, but they’re extremely expensive and it can feel like you aren’t getting what you should be for the time you pay so much money for. Hours are seriously lacking, as well as classes offered. Too many gyms for less money and similar quality around this area. Legit cannot wait until I can get away.

The Arena Club

Hi Adeline, we wanted to reach out to you directly so we could address your concerns, however we cannot find you in our system as a member or guest of The Arena Club. The Arena Club facility is one of the largest in the area with over 80,000 square feet and over 300 pieces of equipment. At the time of this review (during COVID), every other piece of equipment is turned off and we have plexiglass partitions between the rows for safe distancing. We also have added a second strength training area for even more space for strength workouts. Pre-Covid, we had over 90 group fitness classes per week, held in our studios. At this time for the safety of our members, all of our classes are being held on our indoor sport court or turf field so that our members have even more than 6' of space for safe distancing. Because we can only hold one or two classes at a time right now, our schedule is slightly reduced from our normal offerings however you will find that we still offer more classes than others in the area. In addition, we have added a new virtual platform offering even more fitness options for members.Again, we would love the opportunity to hear your concerns so we can try to make your experience better! If you would like to connect with us, please reach out to our Membership Director at 410-734-7300 x143.
