Positive experience: LA Fitness in Cliffwood is a great gym with everything you need for a solid workout. The facility is clean, spacious, and well-equipped with a wide variety of machines, free weights, and cardio equipment. I love that they offer group classes like yoga, Zumba, and kickboxing—it keeps things fun and motivating. The staff is friendly and helpful, always ready to answer questions or assist if you need something. The pool and sauna are a huge bonus after a workout! Definitely recommend this location if you’re looking for a well-rounded gym experience.

Positive experience: Moved to the area and needed a gym and I can say that the sign up fees were decent. However, I’ve lived in the area for three years now not wanting to cancel my membership because of the proximity but I am not getting complete use out of the gym. The sauna and bathroom are a disaster. The back rooms do not seem to be used at all. Other than that the staff and atmosphere is decent but for the money I’m not getting complete use of the gym.

Negative experience: God forbid I forget my headphones again. I die a little inside every time I have to hear my favorite rock songs remixed into house beats for 90 minutes straight. And please fix the men's locker room sinks by the bathroom they have been busted for months

Negative experience: Terrible, it was so nice when it first opened now it is dirty and not kept up, the cliental could care less and neither does Mgt. The kids hang in the parking lot and smoke weed. They need to keep the gym clean and get rid of the trash hanging in their lot and place of business for people who want to work out and feel safe. I have left the gym and now go elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I am training with Ashanti at this Aberdeen location. I can say he’s really helping me a lot! I have Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Scoliosis and degenerative discs. I’m getting stronger safely. He even gives me special exercises to help my scoliosis. I highly recommend him as your trainer!

Fantastic experience: Down hill and disappointing. This gym has gone down hill. I've been bouncing between this gym and the Holmdel one, until it closed. The Cliffwood location was always the nicer one. I usually just swim. It's better for me after my injury. Unfortunately, the locker room is usually dirty and disgusting. The showers are most often moldy and dirty as well. It's clear La Fitness is not the good place to work out it once was.

Fantastic experience: The personal trainers here are absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable. My first complimentary self assessment experience with Ari made me feel comfortable and happy with pursuing it and she connected me with my trainer now, Ashanti who has been understanding with the goals I need to set for myself as well as educating me with safety tips and any questions I have regarding nutrition and improving overall health and performance especially in regards to competing in a martial art. I’ve always been skeptical of personal training but I’m very grateful I found an awesome trainer here to help guide me with my fitness journey.

Fantastic experience: This is mostly about my personal trainer experience! I left PF because I wanted to join a gym that had classes. I'm overweight right now and was HIGH KEY terrified to join LA Fitness because most people that go there are super fit. I joined for the Aqua and Yoga classes. While I absolutely love the classes, the only reason I have stuck with my gym and running routine for the last 4 months is because of my Personal Trainer experience at LA. Ari walked me through the opportunity to start PT one day at LA Fitness. I didn’t want to do it because of the cost and low key felt like I would quit within 3 months. I thought I would be wasting my money. Ari was really good at pointing out all the benefits of starting PT Sessions though. She was so nice and personable and everyone kept coming up with her during our convo (gym members) and I could see how nice she was and motivating. I signed up because of her and am super glad I did. I've had a few sessions with her and she's such a great teacher. She's always on the floor too when I am at the gym working out alone and ALWAYS comes up to me to catch up and ask how my training is going. She really does care about everyone that joins because of her. I started scheduling sessions with Ashanti and absolutely love what I've gained from my PT experience so far. He has been super helpful teaching me the right form when doing any workout. He's also super nice, chill, and motivating at the same time. I have never done well with teachers who use intimidation or yelling to motivate me. Ashanti pushes me for sure during workouts but in a way that is nice and encouraging. I don't like working out but I do like knowing during my PT sessions I have someone on my side that really does want to show me how to succeed and become healthier than I currently am. Honestly out of all the teachers I've had in the past on sports teams and at other gyms (like OT), I think Ashanti's been the best coach for me so far. Learning from Ashanti how to do other stuff other than the 4 machines I knew how to use really has helped me train every part of my body. He also is great at checking in personally quick before every session to show he actually cares about his clients. When I'd get to the gym before joining PT, I would hide in classes or in one of the rooms in the back because I didn't feel like I belonged (again, currently high key not in shape). Now I feel a lot more comfortable on the floor and on the tredmill. I feel like I deserve to use the floor space or machine just as much as anyone else there. Since started personal training sessions in March, I've started to see mini wins in my own body. I've ran 2 5ks since starting PT and have another scheduled. This would have NOT happened without Ari teaching me how many time's I should be coming to the gym, the info packets she provided on workout tips and nutrition guidelines, and my sessions with Ashanti. I legit couldn't run for a minute straight in March and now can run a 5k without stopping. I also can pull up and button a pair of jeans that have not fit since 2022. I still am not wearing them until they look better, but in January they didn’t' even go past my thighs so that's a big win. My face is looking better and so are my arms and back for sure. Also might be TMI, but my weight was classified as Obese class II, and after 2 months I dropped out of that weight class. I really do thank my personal training sessions for this. I have a LONG way to go to get where I will feel comfortable with my body but I know I will get there if I keep up with what I'm being taught in training sessions. Seriously this is adding years onto my life because I was so unhealthy. THE only negative I have to say is people don't clean machines after use (same problem though at PF though). Kudos to the gym putting signs everywhere telling us to wipe down machines before and after. They can't do much more unless there's a way to attach wipes to every station. Also, front desk staff is always super nice too whenever I go in and leave!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been training at LA Fitness since March 2025 and have had an excellent experience with Ashanti Maurice. He is technically expert, attentive and takes the time to listen and understand his clients needs. He tailored my program accordingly and consistently demonstrated deep knowledge in the field. When I was asked to switch trainers due to scheduling, I chose to stay with him—and he even adjusted his time to accommodate me. Highly recommend Ashanti for anyone seeking expert and personalized training.

Fantastic experience: I have been training at LAF for several years in 2 locations. I have been especially pleased with the personal training services of Ashanti Maurice. He's low key, technically expert, sensitive to his clients, and an all around great guy. If you're looking to take your training to the next level, check him out. You can thank me later!

Positive experience: This location, contrary to the now closed Holmdel gym, is clean and by far, the vast majority of the equipment is functional. The only problem that I see, and unfortunately probably speaks to the quality of this gym, is the overcrowding. During the busy times, you do have to wait for most of the equipment. If, however, you're more interested in treadmills or ellipticals, there is plenty of them, and no wait lines. The bathrooms are clean and attended to. The staff is friendly.

Fantastic experience: Major improvement since the last time I visited, the men’s steam room is up and running and it feels like a steam room. Showers are cleaned and the soap, shampoo in the showers must have new employees working here. Hopefully it stays like this

Negative experience: Getting more and more crowded. Feels like they've oversold the memberships. Equipment constantly out of service. Pool heater was out of commission for almost a month. Jacuzzi has been closed for several weeks now.

Positive experience: I recently joined, about two weeks ago. The workout area is nice, I haven't come across any machines not working yet. This is a busy Gym. The locker room and bathroom area are dirty and the bathroom consistently smells. I guess my expectations are a little high? but for the price, I believe it should be much cleaner. The jacuzzi is empty right now and they're working on renovating that area as the ceiling above it is falling apart. For the amount of people that use this facility, the bathroom cleaning and locker rooms should be a major priority, but it doesn't seem that it is. update: They've been out of small towels now for over a week and keep saying, we're waiting for our order. I don't know who's maintaining their budgets and their purchasing, but they're not good at it. You don't wait until you're out to order more. stop with the excuses and fix the stuff that's broken, clean up the dust bunnies under all the machines, and fix the locker rooms, the jacuzzi in the mens room has been shut down since I've joined and they said we're working on upgrading and fixing. The door on the steam room doesn't stay closed, the light inside has been out since I joined and they haven't cleaned the floors in that steam room in over a week. In my opinion, Whoever is managing this location, isn't managing it. I've heard other members say there was a woman named Nina who was the manage before and she was always visibly in the gym checking machines making sure everything was clean and operational. I'm not sure who the manager is there now, but it is definitely not kept up. I doubt they'll allow me to get my money back now, but if I could, I'd cancel and go to Powerhouse in Hazlet. I don't blame the janitorial staff, I blame the general manager, if you're the boss, then it's on you, not the employees, the leader sets the pace.

Negative experience: They hardly clean the men’s bathroom it smells and wet everywhere in the stalls to the points the metal is rusting water is dripping from the ceilings and puddles of pee on the ground. Need new management cause that’s unacceptable and dirty

Negative experience: I've been increasingly frustrated with my experience at this gym. It’s become overcrowded lately which has resulted in encounters with some rather rude and unpleasant individuals. Additionally, i’ve also noticed some staff members who seem a bit questionable in their professionalism. I’m seriously considering looking for a new gym soon

Fantastic experience: Outstanding Experience with Marry and Travis – LA Fitness Management Team I’ve had an incredibly positive experience at LA Fitness, and a huge part of that is because of the excellent management team—Marry and Travis. From the moment you walk in, you can tell they genuinely care about the members and the overall atmosphere of the gym. Marry is incredibly professional, kind, and proactive. Anytime I’ve had a question about my membership, class schedules, or even equipment, she has taken the time to help me patiently and thoroughly. She knows the gym inside and out, and you can tell she takes pride in making sure everything runs smoothly. She has a calm and welcoming demeanor that really makes members feel comfortable and valued. Travis is also phenomenal—always approachable, attentive, and hands-on. He’s great at resolving issues quickly and efficiently, whether it’s helping with equipment, locker room questions, or general member support. He’s always around making sure the gym is clean, organized, and operating at a high standard. You never feel like just a number—he actually listens and follows through. Together, Marry and Travis have created a supportive, motivating, and respectful gym environment. Their teamwork and dedication make this LA Fitness location stand out compared to others I’ve visited. Negative experience: DONT. I repeat DO NOT sign up to this gym let alone ANY LaFitness! I signed up and had an amazing rep but after only attending a month to the gym, and not wanting to return due to the back upkeep of the gym. The locker rooms, the smell, the fact that you have to bring your own lock and the lockers don’t have a combo # system. It’s terrible! After not wanting to continue with them, they call me EVERYDAY! Even blocking the number doesn’t help because they will call you from their other #s! They don’t get the point until you pick up and curse them out. Even tho I already spoke to a rep and told them I won’t be using their facilities any more!!!!! I’m sticking to LIFETIME FITNESS!!!!! It’s worth every single penny!

Negative experience: bathroom bad condition and jacuzzi broken contact and the manager never take acción to fixing correct and the ceiling collapsing,paint peeling,that is no fair i’m paid for use everything ,totality unfair for my son with autism conditions.

Negative experience: Google should not be advertising a sauna at this location. It has a sign that say "permanently closed". Which is a big reason that I was keeping my membership. I only visited this gym a few times, after the Holmdel location closed. It is small and crowded. Very disappointing.

Negative experience: What gym opens up at 8am on Saturdays and Sundays ? They closed down the Hazlet location and didn’t account all of those members. Awful gym. 1/100

Negative experience: I’ve been here for the past three and a half years after moving from Portland, Oregon. The gym was fine when I first joined, but the lack of supervision and maintenance has left it in really bad shape. Even the steam room is completely closed now. It’s disappointing, especially after being a loyal customer for 12 years—I’m seriously considering moving on

Fantastic experience: I signed up with Dylan, he was super helpful, helped me out with my personal goals and helped me out with the best price.

Negative experience: Just like the other LA’s, Numerous machines out of order constantly, and sometimes for months. But don’t worry, they’ll be somebody soliciting your money at the front door. Hardly ever has wipes or paper towels to clean the machines.

Positive experience: Seems like a newer location but unfortunately locker room areas are rarely clean, sauna permanently closed and now frequently the steam room is closed/not working without any notice.

Negative experience: I’m updating my review as this location has declined a lot. There is a sign over the sauna stating that it is permanently closed. The locker room cleanliness is also leaving a lot to be desired. This gym isn’t very old and it went downhill very fast. You’d think they would invest in maintaining it after closing the Holmdel location.

Fantastic experience: An incredibly clean and well-maintained space with great amenities. Staff is friendly and the equipment layout is intuitive.

Negative experience: Half the machines don’t work half the treadmills don’t work. Always crowded and never any wipes. Wish the old management was back place is really falling apart

Positive experience: Disappointing. I wish I had done a trial before signing up after a brief tour. This gym is not kept very clean (specifically in hot tub and bathroom area). There is never enough equipment or it goes missing. The mats are gross and torn. The pool is so overly chlorinated that even after showering, the smell of chlorine stays on my skin for at least a full day. Before I signed up, I asked the person I was speaking with if they plan on reopening the sauna and he said “next month.” I asked him to confirm 3 times and he did. I followed up with someone at the front desk the following month and he looked at me like I was nuts. It’s been out of order for 2 years and it does not seem like there is any plan for reopening. Pretty annoying. The class selections are fine. All the instructors I have taken have been good. The babysitting was really what drew me here, and that’s been good too, which is a positive.

Negative experience: Weights and cardio equipment are fine. Only 2 squat racks is rough. 1 star is for the clear disregard for keeping the men’s locker room clean and functioning. Sauna shut down, steam room needing a part for 2 months, laundry often shut down for months at a time so no towels, drain larva in all the showers, toilets are soaked half the time for whatever reason like their idea of cleaning is hosing everything down, single bathroom outside of locker rooms is permanently locked for whatever reason. If not for the convenience of location, would end membership.

Negative experience: The worst gym that I ever been, a lot of the machines are broken and are a serious risk for every customer, the monthly fee for the quality that they offer is not good, YMCA and planet fitness offer better service for a lower fee ( with all respect). They offer better machines but more Than that is the maintenance of their gyms, in LA fitness there is no maintenance offer, I just upload a picture but there are more machines, wires and part of the place in this bad condition. Eyy LA fitness that care of us as your customers please and prevent accidents.

Positive experience: I signed up when they opened back in September of 2020 the manager was very nice. The front desk staff always said hello and were very welcoming! When something broke they would have it fixed in a timely manner. The gym was always clean they always had a cleaner on schedule. The sauna was working at that time and it was overall great. Since then it’s definitely been going downhill. The gym is always packed out now there’s never a time it’s not busy but that’s not a big deal to me. It’s no where near how clean and up kept it used to be. There are machines that have been broken for weeks the sauna is permanently shut down. There are times where there aren’t any wipes to clean the machines, the bathroom isn’t up kept there are days where soap isn’t refilled or no paper towels. I almost never see anyone cleaning it where as before when they first opened, there was always someone cleaning it. Hopefully they can improve and go back to how it used to be.

Negative experience: Bathrooms are always dirty, sauna always broken, pool is non accessible, hot tub always broken. A bunch of the equipment is always broken. And a the old blonde lady that works there is very mean to other people at the gym

Negative experience: Would go everyday and this place has gone DOWN HILL for $50 a month I get nothing planet fitness has more amenities for $10. Steam rooms been broken for well over a month and the manager always says “the parts coming this week” equipment is always broken, not enough equipment either. Bathrooms are disgusting nothings clean this gym is awful for the price you have to pay. It pains me to write this cause it was so good now it’s just awful and has been for the past few months.

Negative experience: It used to be nice and clean and beautiful. Ever since the Holmdel location closed and everyone was pushed over to Cliffwood, it’s been gross and heavily overpopulated. You can’t ever get a workout done in a decent amount of time because there’s someone always on a machine you need. Sometimes there have even been lines to get on some machines… there’s just not enough of them for the population of the gym. And it truly doesn’t matter what day or time of day you go there, it is ALWAYS packed. My boyfriend and I have been to different locations around the country and none of them have been as bad as this one.

Negative experience: It's too packed all the time. There is not enough equipment.

Negative experience: Very crowded. Jacuzzi does not have hot water. Machines are not very clean. Overall it is not as good as it was few months back.

Negative experience: I had been coming as a guest for months without any issues, but suddenly, I was required to fill out a bunch of paperwork to sign in. I understand policies can change, but consistency in enforcing rules would be appreciated.

Negative experience: This is one of the worst gyms I have ever been to. It is extremely overcrowded, especially after the nearby LA Fitness location permanently closed, causing an influx of members. During peak hours, be prepared to wait at least 15-20 minutes just to use a workout machine, which significantly disrupts the flow of a workout. Additionally, the gym lacks sufficient equipment for key muscle groups, including biceps, triceps, legs, and back. Almost every type of machine or free-weight station is either occupied or unavailable, making it difficult to complete a well-rounded workout. If you're looking for an efficient and productive gym experience, this location is far from ideal.

Fantastic experience: Spacious, clean, well maintained. If the sauna and stuff like that is all a concern to you, you might want to go someplace else, but the real "gym" stuff, and the pool, and the hot tub are all up and running and maintained too. Lots of treadmills, bikes, and plenty of space throughout to do pretty much whatever fitness routines you want. The location is pretty convenient. There is always parking, too, even during peak hours.

Negative experience: Sauna it’s been closed/broken over months. Steam room it’s off still… Great costumer service, great location, and great gym equipment but they need to have to think and get fixed the sauna or steam room!!!

Negative experience: Men’s sauna and jacuzzi have not been working for a long time now ! The steam room barely works . What’s the difference between LA fitness and other gyms that charge way less like Planet fitness or crunch .

Positive experience: Equipment is nice and clean, staff and instructors are very kind. The reason for the 3 stars is that the personal training room is closed which is frustrating when I am paying for training sessions and with the other location closing its very crowded. Please consider opening the personal training room for the trainers and clients.

Negative experience: Hey guys I am a neighbor of La Fitness Clifford Nj , I have an issue last year which the Jacuzzi water was filled of a lot of Chemicals I got a lot of burn to my body and even waste my Nice swimming suit, actually the color of my Swimming suit became a white? I went through a lot of pain for 1 week. I spoke with the LA Cliff-wood NJ management at to freeze my membership and I told them what happened, However no one followed up with me and they really don’t care And now i hear they are changed the management and become under new management! So I called them to activate My membership as my membership before including guest! But the lady answered my call this Friday wasn’t nice at all and told me that my membership was canceled and even I can’t have a guest with my new membership if I activate it Very disappointed and unhappy from LA Fitness. .

Negative experience: Really used to enjoy this location. Since they closed the LA in Holmdel they clearly did not properly prepare for the influx of individuals. It is so unbelievably packed now you have no choice but to wait for any machine or a spot to workout. Absolutely ridiculous that they closed a bigger location & expect people to squeeze into a smaller location. I’ve never seen so many treadmills down. Not to mention the sauna has been closed for two years. Currently looking for another gym, the price is not worth this location.

Fantastic experience: It's a great gym. But.. there are major issues. 1- the saunas are down yet we still pay the same price. 2- employees need training. 3 - the steam rooms barely push Steam and it is usually colder or barely hotter than the outside temperature of the lockers. 4- if you expect to keep a pump here do not work out here too many people , your average going to wait 5 to 15 minutes for a machine or free weight section. 5 - the only one that has outstanding competence and is able to do their job completely is Mary the GM. Other then that. Place is cool.

Negative experience: Disappointed with their team service, but specifically with the manager Mary. Customer communication is poorly handled due to the lack of accountability and honor code thats mainly attributed to misaligned team messaging and training skills. Location and equipment are great but without effective communication there’s no customer membership relationship from this experience.

Positive experience: Place is great but wish they had a basketball court.

Negative experience: Joined this club about 2 years ago when I first moved to the area. Promises of multiple amenities ( steam room, hot tub, sauna) as this was a “Signature Club”. The only amenity left is the steam room which barely works if it even operating at all. The hot tub is a RUSTY mess as they let the metal corrode all around the bathroom area and hot tub area (I would not ever walk around barefoot). After a nearly 2 year experience and $50 monthly + yearly fees around $60 I realized it was a total ripoff. The cleanliness factor is about a 5/10 overall which is not good but the false advertisement of amenities is really what bugged me. Other gyms in the area offer much lower rates and actually provide the services they market. When I finally got a manager on the phone all they wanted to do was resign me up for either higher yearly fees or higher monthly fees than what I was already paying. There was no real sense of responsibility taken for the lack of care and services. Very sad what direction this place has taken in the past 2 years but there are many options in this area I would definitely steer clear of this one if you care about your safety and health.

Negative experience: It's 2025, maybe they should fix their cardio equipment for once?... legit, so many pieces of equipment out of order and the TVs don't work ‍♂️

Negative experience: Beware, the sauna does not work. And this is a permanent decision. What’s the point of paying all this money if there’s no sauna?

Negative experience: Place is clean. Infrared sauna is permanently broke. Not ETA when it will be fixed. Pretty disappointed about that.

Negative experience: Used to be so clean and nice in there. The new people coming from the other LA is making the place a mess at night. The womens locker room is gross and there is water bottles all over the place. And the cleaning guy Chris they fired was amazing, he did a great job cleaning. The gym was spotlessss. Not anymore. Very sad it seems to be going slowly downhill from here. Hope they can pick it back up to where it left off.

Fantastic experience: Was helped out by Dylan. Super nice and efficient. Not easy when you have multiple gym memberships he was able to help me consolidate to this gym which is the best.

Negative experience: Permanently closed sauna so the sign says.

Fantastic experience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Positive experience: Just moved in the area it’s nice and clean but the sauna is still not fixed and this was the reason i joined LA Fitness. There are lots of gyms out there but SAUNA is the main attraction for most people and yes LA Fitness has them but not working in some places.

Positive experience: The shower barre in the curtains is rusted.the sauna is close for more 6 months.need clean .maybee in the future close same Homdel.

Positive experience: The steam room works very poorly, and the infrared sauna has not worked at all for more than six months.

Negative experience: Pretty ridiculous to pay $35 a month for this gym. We only do because it’s 5mins from our home and I’m under my husbands account. Staff is very unhelpful and just sit on their phones. They go through weeks of not having towels available. The sauna has been closed for almost two years. Weights and locker rooms are always a mess. Equipment is constantly broken (the single abductor machine has been broken for 3 years lol). I never really see any classes going on. They have a nice HIIT room but you’re not allowed to use it unless you’re there with their personal trainer. I have complained multiple times about the lighting in the parking lot which is a lot of times completely out and as a woman it feels very unsafe.

Negative experience: most of the machines are broken, I have to drive an extra 20 minutes to go to another gym because the abductor chain has been broken for months and no one fixes it

Fantastic experience: The staff is wonderful. Imari the trainer is the best!

Positive experience: Although smaller, noticed the females dress like they just want to workout, different than other places where it’s a H03 feast.

Negative experience: New management took over this week, rudest people i have ever met. While I was working out, I heard two employees (Mary and Travis) aggressively yelling at members in the front of the gym. I don’t know what it was about but I have never seen such poor customer service. I felt very uncomfortable and I wasn’t even involved. It caused me to end my workout early as I feared things would escalate even worse. The gym felt like a safe place when Enrique was manager, and now i’m not sure if i want to workout in this environment.

Positive experience: Good atmosphere and nice employees. This place would get a 5 if the bathrooms were fully clean. I always see water on the floor along with most of the toilet seats unclean, and some trash. The cleanliness of the bathrooms needs to improve.

Negative experience: Appalled at the new management that took over this week. Mary and Travis have turned this place upside down. The club was ran so beautifully under Enrique’s management. It was a pleasure to come to the gym every day until this new crew took over and it’s such a shame for the members of the gym.
